CHAPTER 2: SHE'S THE ONE!
Charlie Brown and Abigail spent the whole Saturday together. First they went to the movies and watch a suspenseful film. Then they went to a malt shop where they had a meal. Later on, they found themselves at a park where they looked at the clouds as they sat on the bench. Abigail noticed that Charlie Brown looked like he had something on his mind.
"Penny for your thoughts, honey?" she asked him.
"Oh I was just thinking how my life here is totally different from my old town," Charlie Brown answered. "How I was told no one could love a failure like me and how I was too wishy-washy and dumb. But since I moved here, you and the others made me feel quite welcomed and even with my old friend Charlotte Braun here, I don't feel like the loser I did when I lived in Sparkyville. Meeting you is probably the biggest highlight of being here."
"Really, Charlie?"
"Absolutely, Abigail. For years I tried in vain to get a certain girl back in my old town to notice me to no avail. I actually came close during a football game when she was Homecoming Queen and I was her escort, but unfortunately, I have very little memory of that. But then I moved here and you made it clear from Day 1 that you liked me."
"When I first laid eyes on you, I thought you were a darling boy. And when I met you, you were the nicest boy I ever met, and a true gentleman. Not that the boys here weren't good, but I was smitten by you when I first saw you."
"You have no idea how much that means to me. I'm also glad we met each other."
"Charlie, I hope you do stay here in Kansas City. I don't know if I'll ever find another boy like you."
"I hope so, too, Abigail." And the two held hands and continued to look at the people go by in the park. Charlie Brown never thought he would find a girl, who wasn't Peppermint Patty, Marcie, or Peggy Jean, that cared deeply for him like Abigail did. He also decided that the little red-haired girl would be in his past.
Later, Charlie Brown and Abigail went back to the malt shop where Tyler, Marcus, and Charlotte were hanging out. They noticed the lovebirds walk in.
"Hey, Charlie Brown! Abigail!" Charlotte called to them. "Come join us over here!" They walked over to the group.
"It looks like you two are getting closer, Charlie," said Tyler, seeing them holding hands.
"Abigail is a great girl, Tyler," said Charlie Brown, smiling as he looked at his new girlfriend. "I never met a sweeter girl than her."
"Aww, thank you, baby," cooed Abigail, who kissed him on the cheek. Charlie Brown smiled and blushed.
"Well Charlie Brown has always been a good guy, Abigail," said Charlotte. "Better than most of the kids back in Sparkyville, that's for sure. That reminds me, do you keep in touch with any of them?"
"Outside of Linus, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Franklin, not really," said Charlie Brown. "Least of all Lucy, Violet, and Patty, for how they treated me the worst of anyone."
"Well I would never want to meet terrible girls like that," said Marcus. "They likely would call me a nerd."
"Well those three girls wouldn't even be the last people I'd invite to visit," Charlie Brown retorted. "You will meet some of my friends who I'm still cool with, in a few weeks, however. Peppermint Patty and Marcie are coming for a visit."
"Can't wait to meet them," said Tyler. And the group hung out for a while before all going back to their homes. Charlie Brown walked Abigail home and shared a kiss before he went back home. He was happy to finally have a girl who cared for him and showed him plenty of love.
