Don't Rent A Girlfriend: High-school
Chapter Two
Disclaimer: I do not own Rent A Girlfriend.
Empty pots of cup noodles, crisps, cans of soda scattered around the room. The noise from the television and crunches of crisp resonated the near empty room where Kazuya sat, wrapped in a blanket from head to toe as he stared blankly at the show that played on the TV.
Crunch. Slurp. Crunch. Sleep. Repeat. It had been his schedule for the last three days since. The only time he had gone out of the house was during a late night hunger pang when he was out of food. He didn't want to cook. He didn't want to put in any effort. Time seemed to have stopped for him, he didn't want to think nor he could think.
"HA..ha... ha..." He laughed at a random scene that had no comedy whatsoever. Opening another bag of crisps and a can of soda, he continued his routine without an end.
His phone vibrated. He looked at the blinking screen before pressing the red button.
Three more days passed, then a knock came to his doorsteps.
...
With slow and heavy strides, he opened the door.
"Who the hell are you?" It was Kibe, his best friend that had asked.
Kazuya looked like a mess. His room was a mess. He smelled horrible.
"Ahhh... Kibe... my best friend."
"Huh?"
Door closed.
Kibe stood there dumbfounded for a few seconds. "Hey open the door! You bustard!"
The door soon opened as Kazuya looked at him, eyes as if staring through his soul.
"Ah... Kibe... my best-"
Kibe punched the shit out of him before he could finish his sentence.
Kazuya fell on the ground as his eyes snapped open, as if waking up from a trance.
"It hurts you bustard!"
'Phew.' He sighed and walked in, taking in the scene of the room, he couldn't help but hold his nose in disgust.
"What the hell is wrong with you? Tell me everything."
...
...
"I see. That sounds about right. I am surprised she just slapped you." Kibe joked but got no retaliation from his friend. He looked depressed.
"So, she is a rental girlfriend, huh." Kibe spoke. "Honestly that makes so much more sense. She is way above your league."
...
"Sigh... I am joking."
...
"You..."
"Kibe, what is this league... how do you get in such a league?"
Now that was surprising. Kibe didn't know how to answer it either but he wanted to save face nonetheless.
"Ehh, I guess you can learn calligraphy?"
"Calligraphy?"
...
"Was a joke."
Sigh...
"Anyways, this has to stop. You had enough moping around. I expect you to go back to school tomorrow." Kibe added as he stood up and began to clean his room.
"Don't just sit there, I am not your dad. Come help me." He added.
Kazuya nodded. 'Calligraphy... huh.'
"I told you, it was a joke."
"I didn't say anything."
"But you have the nasty face. That's when you think. Stop thinking, it's gross."
...
(Scene Change)
"Ah, you are so pretty. The pictures didn't do you justice, Chizuru-chan."
Few days ago those words would make her happy, make her feel accomplished and proud. But now she would be lying if she said it didn't annoy her. She wanted to smack the perverted look out of her client's face.
She was trying her best to switch her girlfriend mode on, but nothing seemed to work. She felt extremely agitated, annoyed.
"Say, Chizuru-chan. Do you have a boyfriend?"
She looked at him, ready to murder the guy but it took every ounce of her willpower to let out a fake smile.
"We aren't allowed to share personal information during meet ups, sorry."
"Oh... that's Lame. But considering how beautiful you are, I am sure you already have a boyfriend."
She snapped, slapping her hand against her table in annoyance.
"Why? Is my fucking face the only thing that decides every fucking thing?"
She calmed down when people around her began to whisper about them. She sighed.
"I am sorry. I must go. I will refund your money. Feel free to give me zero stars. Bye." She stood up and left while the guy looked at her with dreamy eyes.
She wanted to do something. Anything, to get rid of the constant annoyance that she was feeling. She was mad and the reason was crystal clear but she wanted to avoid thinking about the reason. Kazuya.
Her phone vibrated as she took out angrily, ready to eat whoever was on the other side of the phone.
From: Kibe
Subject: Yo
: I just met Kazuya. He is OK. Thought would let you know.
...
Sigh... 'What is wrong with me...' She smiled unknowingly. Her phone vibrated again but this time it was on the app that she used for rental girlfriend jobs.
She sweat dropped.
5 stars
Comment: Chizuru chan is the best. She even got mad at me. Ah, she is the best!
...
'Are people this messed up in the head?'
(Scene Change)
Kazuya thought really hard that night. About Mami, his ex girlfriend. About Chizuru, his rental girlfriend. About his grandmother, about her grandmother.
'This has to stop.' He sighed as he stared at the blank ceiling. 'I wonder what lead to this situation. Why am I so pathetic?'
He wanted to fix everything that was within his ability but the only thing that he was capable right now was to end this unbending cycle of lies.
Sigh...
He thought extra hard. Gained courage. Then stood up and walked out of his room.
He stood in front of Mizuhara's room for a good few minutes. The events from that night was fresh in his mind and he wanted to stay as far away from her as he could. But that would never happen if he ran away from the main source of all this. With full conviction, he knocked her door.
He could hear her footsteps approaching the door. Then it stopped. Then a click of the door knob revealed her figure. She looked just like he had hoped she would look. Flawless.
"What do you want?" Chizuru asked, her eyes not meeting his as she looked away from him.
He looked at her confidently which made her feel somewhat intimidated.
"One last time. Please let me rent you."
She looked at him angrily. "You kidding me right? Did you forget what you just did?"
He shook his head.
...
"No." She announced. "I don't want to-"
"Mizuhara. One last time. Let me rent you, please."
She wanted to deny but she couldn't. She wanted to scream at him. She couldn't do that either.
'What is wrong with me...'
"Fine. This is the absolute last."
He looked at her sadly before smiling. "Yes. The absolute, last."
To be continued...
