"Mikasa? Come on you'll be late to school - it's time to wake up" Mikasa's mother was knocking on her bedroom door.

The raven woke up with a stretch, looking at her clock on her nightstand - Still early, I have plenty of time to have breakfast, she thinks with a smile on her face.

Getting up, she gathers her clothes for the day, and after a quick shower, she makes her away towards the kitchen, where her parents are waiting for her to start eating.

"Hey there sleeping beauty! Had fun yesterday at Eren's?", the man asks, while spreading jam on a piece of bread. Mikasa does the same, "Mmhm! Can't wait to see him again - would it be possible for me to have a sleepover at his place, like, today or tomorrow?"

Both parent smile at this, glad that their daughter found someone so dear to her all those years ago, and that genuinely like each other.

"We'll ask Mrs Jeager, ok? But now finish eating, Levi is going to pick you up to go to school in 10 minutes"

"Wha- 10 minutes? School doesn't start for another hour, and we live half an hour away by car! Why so early?" Mikasa replies, the idea of spending more time than necessary at that building giving her nausea.

"I'm sorry but your father and I have to deal with some business of our own, the bank stopped accepting online payments, saying that it's not possible that it's being used in Paradis since we were just in Eldia, so we're going to pop over and make them repeat that to our faces"

Mikasa starts to laugh at the mental picture, when she heard knocks on the front door. "I'll get it, it must be Levi here to pick you up", he father says while getting up to open the door.

"I know you're not happy about going to school earlier, but we have no choice - we had to get an appointment, and the only available spot was very early in the morning - we're sorry about this: if you want you can call Eren's house and see if he can come join you!"

Mikasa was just about ready to answer when she hears her father shouting in pain, followed immediately by "RUN AWAY!"

The raven can only stand frozen, not understanding what is going on - she wants to get up and move like her father told her to, but she just can't. Suddenly her mother is grabbing her hand, and guiding her towards the window, opening them with one hand. She wants to ask what is going on, but the look of pure horror on her mother's face is enough to stop her in her tracks.

Before either of them can even step on the window sill, a pair of hands grabs them both, throwing them roughly on the ground.

"Well, they were trying to escape uh? Make a run for it? Now you have to deal with the consequences - say goodbye to your legs, miss. You won't need them anyways"

All Mikasa can do was stare in horror as the stranger grabs one her mother's ankle and twists it horribly, with a sickening crunch, followed by a deafening scream coming from her mother.

"What the fuck did you do? They have to stay in shape you idiot! Now what do we do? We can't damage the merch!"

"But she tried to escape, what am I supposed to do about that? Just let them off with a warning? I made sure that bitch stays here"

A loud gunshot was heard - Dad!A third man enters the kitchen, covered with some droplets of blood on his shirt. His calculating eyes staring right into Mikasa's, making her want to curl into a ball, but she finds she can't even move a finger. Why is this happening, who are these people, what happened to dad, her mind is going a mile a minute, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. Her mother is not making any noises, passed out from the pain of having her ankle snapped. The 2 men are still arguing about that.

"Both of you, shut up. You messed up, big time. We can't wait for her to heal. You single handedly wasted our biggest asset. Congrats. Kill her and get the other one, she'll do just fine."

What do you mean kill her...no please don't

Mikasa wants to scream, from fear, she wants to scream out to her brother, who always managed to help her, and she wants him to appear on the door and save her like he always does - but on every second that passes he's not there. She is alone.

Before she can even process what the man is doing, a crack is heard through the room - Mikasa snaps her eyes on the source of the noise, meeting the dead eyes of her mother.

As if a dam breaks in Mikasa's mind, the scream she was holding off comes out, along with tears, and she is screaming as loud as she can, survival instincts kicking in, hoping that someone, anyone would hear her and save her. The only thing that happens next is a hand coming down on her face, hard.

"Shut up! Every time you scream, I'm going to hit you - unlike a broken leg, split lips are actually a demand someone wants!" - Mikasa listens to what the man is saying, and she is trying to stop, she doesn't want to get slapped again, but she finds it impossible to stop, the pain from the slaps increasing her cries.

"Stupid little..." the next slap hits her near her temple, and her head hits the ground, making her bleed from her forehead. She's seeing double, and everything appears to move in slow motion - she can only hear a faint ringing sound. "Finally - I thought I had to punch her - come on let's get out of here, just before the father opened the door I heard them say about someone coming to pick her up, and the less people we kill, the better."

Someone holsts up Mikasa on their shoulder, who is still reeling from the previous hit. They make their way outside, where they shove Mikasa in the boot of the car.

"Hold on" - one of the man stops the other from closing the boot - "If she manages to attract attention we'll be in trouble. Knock her out and tie her, just to be sure".

The last thing the girls feels is a hut on the back of her head, then, darkness.

"Come on, Levi, we're late already - can't you walk any faster?" Petra is almost dragging Levi to the front door. Levi had forgotten about the bank appointment of his parents, and so they left home half an hour later than what he was supposed to.

"Relax - I'm sure that Dad brought the brat to school before going to the bank, no need to worry"

The make their way to the front door, where Levi knocks on the door. After roughly 10 seconds of no response, he turns to Petra, with a smug look on his face - "See? Told you! They are out already - we didn't even need to come here in the first place"

"Levi Ackerman you are so irresponsible sometimes, I wonder how they managed to keep up with you for so long - I swear I'm having trouble some days to stop myself from calling your mother and-"the red head stops her rant, when she notices her boyfriend's serious expression.

"The door isn't locked"

As if Levi was scared to open the door, his hand remains on the handle, contemplating whether to open the door or call for help. After what seemed hours, in reality only a dozen or so seconds, he feels a hand cover his own, and looking up he sees Petra giving him a short nod, as if to say "I'm here with you".

After taking a couple of deep breaths, they both open the door, scared of what they could actually find. At first everything seems normal, and Levi considers letting out a laugh, already imagining telling the story of "How I through you were in danger" to his parents, everyone laughing at his scared expression, when he feels a hand gripping hard his arm. Turning towards the girl, he sees blood pooled on the ground.

Above it rests a man, bruises evident on his face, eyes still open and looking straight at him. He wonders why he isn't having any reaction at all, not even a tiny little scream - Am I even human, he thinks, when his legs decide to move forward, towards the kitchen, where he finally breaks down, landing on his knees, at the sight of his mother's twisted neck. He is actually thankful for that, not wanting to experience looking at a dead person's eyes. One time was more than enough.

Petra walks in after him, only letting out a whispered "Oh god" - and then Levi shoots up, almost crashing into the wall, launching himself up to the stairs, and almost ripping the door to Mikasa's room off its hinges, only to find nothing, no signs of anything weird or misplaced. He immediately shoots off towards the rest of the house -

"MIK! CAN YOU HEAR ME? MIK?!"

He topples over every closet he can find, opens every cabinet he sees, checks every hiding spot he can think of, and always coming up empty. He checks every nook and cranny, his brain going into over drive, at one point opening the kitchen drawers, with every drawer opened letting out a shout :

"NO! NO! NO!"

Petra tries to restrain him, and even though they're roughly the same height, she still has to struggle to make him calm down and not literally rip everything off the walls.

"M-maybe the J-Jeagers took her t-to s-school, Levi, you s-should c-c-call them", her tone betraying the fact that she's holding in tears.

Hitting himself over the head for not thinking about that, he fishes out his phone, thumbs almost breaking the phone by almost punching down the contact list until he finds the name "Jeager"

Beep...Beep...Beep...Bee- "Hello Levi! Do you need anything?"

"Did you come get Mikasa?! This morning, did you come take her to school?"

Carla immediately recognised the urgent tone, knowing full well that almost nothing could make Levi lose his cool - "No Levi, we didn't hear a thing - We just came back from bringing Eren to school, and Mikasa wasn't there - why, is ever-"

"FUCK! SHE'S NOT THERE PETRA, SHE'S GONE", the man screams interrupting Carla, making her even more worried, but she had to maintain a cool demeanor - she had to maintain calm otherwise no good would come out of this. "Levi? Levi? I'm coming over, don't move and just take deep breaths, ok? Levi?"

"M-Mrs Jeager, i-it's Petra Ral, w-we are- are going to wait...please hurry"

The last thing Carla hears is the girl crying, which only makes her walk faster to her car. "Petra? I'm going to hang up now, I'm going to call the cops ok? Then I'll call you right back, I promise" - without waiting for a reply, the woman immediately calls the police, while backing up her car to drive to the Ackerman's place.
