"And so I nailed the landing" A gloved hand booked the bobblehead of himself, grinning charmingly at the mirror in front of him. "And I looked so cool doin' it, right Wr-" he turned his head, realizing his feminine friend wasn't paying. "Wraith c'mon I was telling a story man"Wraith, the woman in question glanced up from her story, furrowing her brows. "Oh you were talking to me" she smiled a bit when he looked disappointed for just a moment. "Mirage," she said a little more seriously. "I've heard you tell that story to everyone for like twenty minutes straight" It wasn't even a good story to begin with, all it did was boost the ego of the man in front of her. "It got boring pretty quick"
"Yeah man" Octane popped up to the couch where Wraith was sitting. "Gotta come up with more realistic stories too" he giggled a bit. "Because that cool landing you did was just you landing on your face and then saying nailed it to brush off your own mistake, homie"
"No I?"
"C'mon," Lifeline slapped him on the back. "Let his ego grow a little bit yeh?" Mirage flinched and then watched her walk away to sit on the couch.
"Legends prepare your teams"
The teams appeared on the screen above, Mirage flashed Wraith a grin when he noticed he was on the same team as her and- Octane, reluctantly he got up and the three of them, with Octanes relentless bouncing next to them as they stood on the platform that would soon lower, he took in the air in his face, than glanced over to the other legends anxiously waiting, and when they got the clear to jump they did. However being the jump master himself Mirage waited until everyone else jumped, Wraith gave him a look. "C'mon, we don't have all day," she said.
"Waiting for the perfect moment don't mind me" Mirage mumbled, studying the island below, a small grin appeared on his face when he found the perfect spot. "I think we should land there" he announced before pushing the bouncing Octane and Wraith off the platform jumping off right after them with a cheer.
"I hate this" Wraith mumbled, her arms crossed as they fell, but she slightly smiled at the excited look her friend gave her and turned to the trees they were going to land and her expression turned to a frown noticing something white and sparking in the sky below them. "Mirage, what is that?"
Mirage looked, opening his mouth to respond but Octane cut in first. "It's shiny! Let's fly towards it, amigo!" He dove headfirst towards the entity, Wraith went to stop him with an annoyed scowl while Mirage rolled his eyes.
"Well whatever it is doesn't seem too dangerous so let's just-" he blinked when Wraith and Octane disappeared in a flash, in his confusion he blinked a couple more times before going towards it. "Guys? Uh, where did you" Another flash, but this time it blinded him for a few seconds, when it subsided he opened his eyes and widened them. "Go.." he took a glance at his surroundings noticing they were now above a city- actually no he was above a city with some weird floating purple floating ships above it, buildings down below. "Holy shit how did this happen?" He breathed. "Looks like some sc-f- oof" he landed stomach first into one of the ships, propping himself up on his arms to get a better look, but he didn't have much time to prepare as he slipped off, not finding much traction of the surface of the craft and soon he nearly knocked himself out hitting the ground, rubble surrounding him on all sides.
"Ow" he sat up, flinching when the jetpack sparked, he took it off and tossed the item to the side, he wasn't too dazed from the fall and luckily he didn't think he had a concussion either, rubbing the back of his head he slowly stood up, stumbling to the side a bit he caught himself on a building and then looked up. "Hello?" He called out. "Wraith?...Octane?" Why did they have to investigate the weird things?
He heard rustling behind him and sighed a relief, turning around. "You trying to sneak on me again Wraith?" He paused when he didn't recognize the large, hairy figure in front of him, hammer held above its head, with some quick thinking he dove to the side to avoid the strike but was thrown back by the shockwave straight after, he hit his back on one of the buildings and groan. "This is a weird sight" Unfortunately the only weapon he had on him was his knife and there were no guns on sight. "Heyyy uh" he stepped back, holding up his hands in slight surrender. "Are we able to talk about this?" The armored Ape lifted the hammer again. "Guess not" he braced himself for the hit, arms covering his beautiful face.
A second later he heard something being stabbed and looked up, grinning at Wraith who was digging her knife through the Apes neck, growling. She avoided its attempts to throw it off and eventually it was shot in the head, collapsing, a giggle came from Octane who was nearby as well. "That was sweet" he jogged over, looking down at the blood seeping into the ground from- whatever that was. "And it's blood is purple, imagine that yeh?" He pumped his pistol into the air.
Ignoring Octane, Wraith walked over to Mirage, helping him to his feet. "You ok?" She asked him.
Mirage brushed off some dirt. "Peachy" was his response. "Nothing like being thrown into a wall by some weird shockwave hammer to keep the attitude going ey?" He gave her the finger guns, to which she rolled her eyes and went to check the ape for any weapons other than that odd gravity hammer. "Also how did Octane get a gun?"
"Because I'm fast!"
Wraith tossed Mirage a pistol to which he caught it. "We passed some dead soldiers on our way here, weapons were intact and they weren't using them anymore so I decided to take 'em" she glanced down at the armored dead ape. "Unfortunately I have no clue where we are, and I haven't encountered anything non-hostile."
Mirage studied the pistol, it wasn't a rifle however it'll have to do for now. "At least it's safe to assume it's some mass invasion of aliens from beyond-" he got an idea. "Oh, you think we got sent to the future by that white portal?" It didn't look like a portal, but he was calling it one.
"Doubtful" Wraith pocketed her knife. "Regardless" she glanced up as one of the purple ships flew by, probably filled with their ground troops. "We need to move before they decide to double check if we're dead"
"Good idea" Mirage slightly jogged forward, he slowed down a bit when Octane blasted past him with a cheer and Mirage stopped. "He's gonna let the whole city know where we are"
"Let him" Wraith walked past. "It'll be nice to fight something other than each other in the games" she jogged after Octane, Mirage wondered why she didn't use her ability to get ahead of Octane, he did agree with her statement it'll be more interesting but at the same time he just wanted to get back and win the games- plus they should figure out what that white anomaly was in the first place an- and they're leaving him behind with the dead armored ape.
"Wait for me you guys! Are you guys seriously not as weirded out by this as I am?"
Dal'Verda
Dal kept his pace slow for the young human child to follow along, she was growing less hesitant around him, following him around like- a lost puppy? That is how humans put it, correct? Ah whatever, the girl was naive and easy to trick just like any other human of the species, he chuckled to himself at the thought. "Do you have a name?" He paused when she spoke up for the first time in an hour, Dal'Verda turned to her with a curious glance.
"Dal'Verda" The name easily rolled off his tongue in English, surprising him a bit but he paid no mind to it. "And you?" He motioned to her, it's not that he cared about her name- he didn't really need to know it, but curiosity kills the grunt.
"Samantha," The young girl awkwardly hugged her arms to her chest. "Can I hold your hand Dal'Verdee?"
"Its Verda-" Ah who cared, she was a child why bother correcting her on his name. Once again he held out his hand and she grasped it in her small bands, Dal looked down at her. "You are too trusting" he said, she only downcast her gaze.
"You haven't killed me yet" Samantha replied awkwardly, "Plus you're being really nice and I...have nowhere else to go" she sniffled and rubbed her eyes with her freehand. Dal didn't know what to do in this situation, the human had liquid coming out of her eyes and she was crying. Crying is the phrase isn't it. "So, thanks"
Dal felt compelled to pull her into what he knew was a hug but refrained from doing so, scowling at himself for the thought. She was a heretic, a human. Why should he care for the feelings of a prisoner who didn't exactly know she was a prisoner. "You're…" he searched his brain for the second word. "Welcome" He wasn't too good with emotional situations and he wasn't the right Sangheili to look after small humans he didn't know why she wasn't running in fear from him, and he certainly didn't know why she still stuck around- however if she did try to leave he wouldn't allow such an act to happen.
Samantha giggled. "Your accent is funny"
Dal moved forward to the evac point he was supposed to meet the Chieftain Brute there, he found himself chuckling at her statement before responding. "So I've been told" he remembered the time he struck down a human 'marine', he had decided to insult it in English and was told the same thing. A rather brave, but stupid thing to say as your heart is being pierced by his weapon.
"How many humans have you killed before?"
Dal nearly stopped walking, looking down at her with a slightly surprised look. "I do not have a headcount on that yet" Too many. "Why do you ask, little one?"
Samantha frowned. "You confuse me" she said, then left it at that. Dal squinted his eyes at her and huffed, he didn't understand humans, she confused him too, however he noticed she didn't wish to speak anymore so he turned his head and continued walking, and walking.
Until eventually they did make it to the rendezvous point. Unfortunately the phantom supposedly supposed to pick them up left the moment he arrived, and he scowled hearing the laugh of the brutes. "Jir'a'ul!" He yelled, in his own language, his tone full of furry. Of course they left him, of course, he cursed knowing the child would not understand his words, however she understood his tone of voice when he yelled.
"Did your friends leave you?" She asked curiously.
"They are not friends" Dal spat with venom, "They are heretics, no honor. Why the Hierarchy decided to let them join the Covenant is beyond me" It was painful, he knew if one of his own brethren were still alive they would have forced those brutes to wait, and yet they died at the hands of...humans. He gazed turned down to the young girl staring up at him innocently, with his other hand he grabbed his energy sword, not activating it.
He stopped before he could do anything, because she spoke to him in a chipper, reassuring tone. "Well, I'm here so you're not lonely" she smiled, something the young girl had not done since he had found her. "And I won't leave you like them" Dal blinked a bit, then he sighed and let go of his weapon. What was the point? "Pinkie promise" she held up her smallest finger causing Dal to lapse back into a state of confusion. "You're supposed to shake my finger, and that promise will never be broken" Not really understanding what she meant, he wrapped his hand around her pinkie and lightly shook it, she giggled. "That works, where to now Mr. Verdee?"
Dal thought for a moment, then he strained his ears. Listening to a battle nearby, once he heard the telltale sound of familiar plasma guns being fired nearby he looked down at her. "We go that way," he pointed down an alleyway. Dal led the way, if his original squad abandoned him he hoped the one they encountered wouldn't. Samantha follows in suit, her smile dissipating into a frown as she possibly found the sounds scary, but she followed along anyway. It was foolish of her.
"Ok.."
Sorry if I don't get canon characters Personalities right, I'm bad at that.
