-Two Days Later, Captain Stacy's Office, NYPD Headquarters -
"Captain, we've got a couple new leads on that corner store robbery from two days ago," a rookie cop informed his boss as soon as he had entered into his captains office.
"Do tell," Captain Stacy ordered as he looked up from his cluttered desk.
"We've got more than just a lead to be honest, we've got a name..." the officer let that hang as Captain Stacy's face lit up at that news.
"How did we get a name so quickly? Captain Stacy asked in a curious tone.
"We pulled the security footage from the hidden camera mounted behind the counter. And thanks to a sketch provided by the shops owners description, we got a hit in the juvenile database." the rookie said as another cop entered the office and handed the rookie a file.
The rookie then proceeded to hand the file to Captain Stacy, who opened the file and looked it over.
"Who is Angela McKnight?" Captain Stacy asked in a confused tone as he looked over the file he had been handed, taking note of the rather surprisingly small juvenile record...
-Meanwhile-
"103, 107... damn." Angela cursed as she finished counting the money she had obtained from the corner store robbery.
She had expected much more from a busy corner store, but in reality she hadn't even gotten half of what she expected.
"This wont last long, at least with how I tend to spend money." Angela mused.
She separated all the money by worth and then put it in a duffel bag.
"107 dollars wont go far, especially in this damn city, yet alone the state." Angela muttered as she stood up from her sitting position She sighed as she sat in a chair, grabbing a remote.
'Just keep the robberies small, for now...don't want to attract the wrong kind of attention,' she mused to herself.
She turned on the TV. She clicked through a few channels and her eyes went wide as a photo of her was on the news next to footage of her robbing the man.
"The police advise for everyone to keep an eye out for Angela McKnight. Not only does she have superhuman powers, but she's also armed with a gun she stole from another thief who tried to rob the same store," the newscaster informed.
Angela growled in frustration.
"Why didn't I cover my damn face?!" She snarled.
After a few minutes she calmed down and a small smirk appeared on her face.
"Well...I always did like an audience," she chuckled lightly.
-The McKnight residence, an hour or so later-
Captain Stacy sits in a chair across from the couch Mrs. and Mr. McKnight were sitting on.
"When was the last time you saw your daughter?" He asked.
"It's been a few months...we...we filed a missing person's report...we never heard until now," Mr. McKnight said.
"I-I...I can't believe...this...she couldn't have done this...my girl robbed a store? Dear God," Mrs. McKnight added.
"We...we thought she ran away to her aunt and uncle at first...she was always close with them...but she didn't go there...they didn't know where she was either," Mr. McKnight continued.
"I'm sorry you had to find out like this. Do you have any idea, even a guess as to where she might go? Any places where her and her friends would hang out?" Captain Stacy asked.
"No...she didn't have a lot of friends...she was always a bit more of a rebel," Mr. McKnight said, his voice having a hint of aggravation.
"I know what that's like," Captain Stacy chuckled.
He saw the man's face was a bit red and he seemed a bit too irritated.
"She didn't really...talk to us about about her interests. Her temper got her in a lot of trouble. So she spent most of her time home," Mrs. McKnight informed.
"I see," Captain Stacy said, his attention turning to her.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a girl maybe a year or two older than Angela on the stairs of the house, spying. The girl saw he saw her and made her way upstairs. She didn't run, but something made Stacy curious.
"Did you know your daughter had powers?" Stacy continued, his attention going back to the parents.
"Heavens no," Mr. McKnight replied, his voice having that hint of irritation again.
"Teenagers don't tell their parents everything, I imagine having powers is something they'd hide," Mrs. McKnight added.
Stacy nodded. He stood up.
"That's all for now. We'll contact you with any updates or for any more questions," Captain Stacy said.
"Please...bring her back to us," Mr. McKnight said.
Stacy nodded. He moved to the stairs and walked up them. He soon walked into another room. The girl he saw sat at the window, looking out of the house.
"You must be Angela's older sister," Stacy said.
The girl didn't reply. Stacy saw tear drop from the girl's face.
"I'm sorry you had to hear about your sister. I promise you will find her," Stacy said.
"Why? So you can lock her in a cage?" The girl asked, venom in her voice.
Stacy was a bit taken back at this. But he sighed.
"She did rob a store...she can't get away scot free," Stacy replied.
The girl looked back at him, her face was red from tears and contorting with sadness and anger.
"My sister's...she's been through a lot..." The girl said.
"That doesn't give her the right to steal," Stacy said.
The girl stood up and slowly walked towards the man. She didn't say anything, but her eyes were full of hurt and anger.
"She's been through enough," the girl hissed.
Look kid-" Stacy tried to say.
"My name's: Cornelia," the girl hissed.
Stacy sighed.
"Look Cornelia...your sister robbed a store, but she's still a kid who didn't kill anyone...she'll get off easy if we find her. She'll be back sooner than you think. Your parents are worried about her," he said.
Something in the girl's eyes made Stacy perplexed, he wasn't sure though.
"...That...That sounds like them..." Cornelia stammered slightly.
"We'll find her," Stacy said.
"For her sake...I hope you don't," Cornelia replied.
Stacy sighed. He moved to exit the room.
"And mister," Cornelia said.
"Yes?" Stacy asked.
"If you hurt my sister...I'll kill you," Cornelia snarled.
This would normally make him laugh, but something in her face felt odd to Stacy.
"...I'll...I'll keep that in mind," he said, cautious then left.
He left the house and got into his car. His thought drifted to the parents. Something was eating at him.
"Seem like good people," Stacy mused.
He believed this to be true. He just couldn't dodge this feeling. He shrugged his shoulders, not thinking much of it, then left.
