'Hi mom! it's been awhile since we last talked hasn't it? Sorry about that! Things have been a bit hectic lately. We're both doing okay though! Except... I think Kyo still has nightmares sometimes... There are nights where he jumps awake and suddenly puts his arms around me. I think he wakes up and gets scared that it was all a dream and that he's still possessed by the spirit of the Cat. Our house is small and set quite a ways from town so sometimes when I can't sleep, I like to sit in our opened doorway and feel the breeze on on my face. Kyo will come over and sit with me sometimes, and tenderly embrace me. In those moments, neither of us say anything. We just hold each other silently with the cool night air around us. Oh yeah! The biggest news though is that I gave birth almost six months ago! A healthy baby boy we named Hajime. We're going to stay at Master for a few days so we decided to come visit you. I really miss you mom. I wish you were here. I wish I could talk to you and ask for advice on being a mother and child rearing. I hate to admit it but... I'm a little scared. What if I'm not good at it? What if I'm a terrible mother?!'
Tohru was broken from her silent conversation by a hand lacing it's fingers through her own. "You okay?" Kyo asked. Tohru giggled with her usual cheerfulness. She turned to see him standing next to her with their infant son nestled safely in his arm, clutching his fathers hoodie.
"Yeah. I was just talking to mom." She replied. Kyo smiled softly down at her.
"Oh? What did you talk about?" He asked.
"A little bit of everything. I told her I missed her and that I'm a bit scared." Kyo looked at her in surprise.
"Scared? of what?" He asked.
"What if I'm not good at being a parent? What if I'm a terrible mother? What if he comes to hate me?!" Tohru said with panic in her voice. Kyo was silent for a moment before bursting into a fit of laughter and light tapped his knuckles on her forehead in his usual sign of love.
"Sorry! It's just... I can't think of a single person more suited to being a mother than you. You basically already are one to every one around you. I should be the one worrying about that." He said.
"What?!" Tohru exclaimed. "No! You're already an amazing father! You really are!" She cried with emotion in her voice. Kyo smiled at her again and pulled her into his chest, which made her relax against him and close her eyes. "I just wish she were here. So she could meet him." Tohru said sadly. He could hear the strain in her voice. She was obviously trying to hold back her tears.
"You can let it out, you know. She would understand, Tohru." Kyo told her.
"I don't want her to see me sad like this... But... She'll never get... To meet him..." She clutched the fabric of his shirt. "To hold him... To see all the wonderful things he'll do..." She cried between sobs. He put a hand on the top of her head and moved his hand in a rubbing motion to comfort her.
"But she will. She might never not get to hold him but she'll definitely get to see him. And I can tell you right now, she is so proud of you, Tohru." Kyo said softly. She finally let all of her pent up emotions out. He held her until her sobs eventually subsided, putting his arms around her and rubbing her back to comfort her.
"You can let it out too!" Tohru suddenly blurted out with her usual look of determination. "I know you've been having nightmares. It's okay to be scared. You can tell me if you are!" Kyo stared at her for a few moments before smiling at her and lovingly cupping his hand on her face and gave her a soft kiss.
"You're right. I still struggle sometimes but I'm lucky to have you to ground me. Thank you for that." Tohru smiled at him and then lit the incense on her mothers grave while Kyo knelt and sat down a box of Mochi.
"Hey, Kyoko. I kept my word all these years and took care of her for you. This is Hajime Sohma, you're grandson. He's still a baby but please look out for him. He's related to us three so I'm sure he'll need it. Oh and say hello to Katsuya for us, alright?" Tohru felt tears rising up again but this time from happiness. Kyo stood up. "Let's hurry, it's getting cold out and Hajimes jacket is still packed." He said and took her hand in his. Tohru nodded in agreement and they began walking.
