Chapter 2: Surprises and Mood Swings!
It's been 2 months since Mirai's announcement of her pregnancy and when the news reached the other precure, they were all too eager to meet the new addition to Mirai's family. But today, they were going to the doctors in the human world to see the gender of their baby.
"I don't know if we should do this. I mean, the gel is always so cold." Mirai complained.
"Oh Mirai. Do you want me to trade places with you? I don't mind playing the role of a pregnant mother." Mirai laughs at the joke before shivering when the gel touches her pregnant belly.
"Ah… it seems that the babies are nice and healthy." The doctor said, leaving Riko and Mirai looking at each other with confusion.
"Babies?" Miai asked as the Doctor smiles at her.
"You're pregnant with twins." Mirai's eyes widened as did her smile "So, do you two want to know if you're going to have twin boys or twin girls?"
"Yes! No! I mean…!" Mirai's mind was overloaded with happiness and excitement that she couldn't make up her mind as she turned to Riko "Riko, let's do that cake thing!" Mirai then turns back to the doctor "Yeah, just send it to us in an envelope or something!"
Once out of the doctor's office, Riko was feeling so much emotion right now, it wasn't funny. She was feeling happiness, joy and love but she was also feeling fear "I still can't believe we're gonna have twins~!" Mirai said as she rubs her pregnant belly "Oh, i can't wait until we meet you two! I know it's gonna be a while but i can't wait." Mirai said as she and Riko entered the KiraPati.
Inside, Riko and Mirai saw Ichika at the counter and was watching her child playing with her toys when she saw the two women "Riko! Mirai! It's always good to see you two!" Ichika said as she went over and hugged the two "So how was the doctor?"
"Well, I learned that i'm going to have twins!" Mirai said as she and Ichika were practically jumping with joy.
"Ahhhh! I'm so happy for you!" Ichika said as she went behind the counter again "So what can i do for you two on this wonderful occasion?" Ichika asks as Mirai hands over the envelope.
"I was wondering if you can make a cake with the color of the gender of my babies." Ichika looked at the envelope then back at Riko and Mirai.
"Are you sure? I would be the only one to know what gender the twins will be." Mirai smiles at her.
"I'm sure. No one, not even me and Riko, will know but you." Ichika then smiles and nods at the two women.
"Okay. I'll do it." Ichika said when she heard her daughter banging her rattle on the counter.
"Mama! Uppies! Uppies!" The girl said through her pacifier.
"Hold on, Karin sweetie!" Karin was then picked up by her mother and Ichika would turn to the witches "I'll get the cake done as soon as i can." Ichika said with a smile.
At home, Mirai and Riko sat next to each other in bed, with Mirai knitting a baby blanket and Riko reading a parenting book when the two turned to each other "So-" The two started out, causing them to laugh a bit.
"You start, Mirai."
"Okay. I wanted to talk about the names for our babies." Mirai said as Riko closes her book and grabs another one from the drawer next to her. A book full of unisex names.
"Okay. How about Yuka? Since it means bright star." Mirai likes the name and nods her head "So we agree on the name?" Riko asks.
"Yeah. I like the name."
"Okay. How about for the second one we name them…" Riko then speed reads through the pages "Asuka? Since it means tomorrow or fragrance."
"I really like that name." Mirai said as Riko puts away the book and that's when Mirai knew something was wrong "Riko, what's wrong?"
"...Are we gonna be good parents? What if we mess up and our kids end up hating us?!" Riko said, tears flowing out of her eyes when Mirai hugs her.
"We're not going to be good parents…" Riko pushes Mirai back to look at her in the eyes "We're gonna be great parents." Riko smiles at her fiancé and kisses her.
Three months later, and Riko has suffered under the darkness of her lover's mood swings "Hey, i'm heading to the store! Do you want some cookies from there?" Riko asks Mirai as she jumps up from the couch with a smile.
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" Mirai then looks down at the floor of her apartment, starting to shed a tear "But i know i shouldn't… but it's getting close to term…" Riko didn't know what was going on so she just decided to leave.
"Mirai! I thought you were gonna do the laundry!" Riko said, carrying the hamper with Mirai watching the tv.
"I know… but i feel so drained… I know I should, but… no…" Riko was starting to get annoyed at her fiancé's laziness and pulled her off the couch and gave her the hamper.
"We're doing the laundry!" Riko said with an annoyed voice.
"You know what?! Go! Just go and leave me!" Mirai yelled at a confused Riko.
"S-So... no to grocery shopping with me. G-got it." Riko said with some slight fear in her voice as Mirai grabs her from the collared part of her shirt "Mirai, please, it's just-"
"You say 'two more months' one more time and i'll throw you through the ceiling!" Mirai threatened. Riko didn't find anyone or anything scary since Demuast, but Mirai had done the impossible.
"C-Cookies?"
"Now!"
Riko was visited by two of the princess precure, Kirara and Minami, who just saw their fellow cure shivering in her chair in the fetal position "Don't you think you're overreacting?" Kirara asks.
"I have to agree. It's just Mirai. We don't think her mood is that bad." Minami's comment get's Riko's attention.
"That is not short stacked! You have no idea what i've been through! What i've done…!" Riko yelled at them.
"Jeez, did you kill someone?" The two former princess precure wondered as Kirara sighs.
"Do we need to ask?" Kirara commented.
"Okay, so she's been fine up until last month! Her mood swings give me whiplash and god forbid we don't have snacks or food!" Riko let out everything she had inside.
"That's not too bad, Riko." Minami said.
"That's only half of it! She's been very demanding too! She's been wanting me to go and buy her cookies every 2 hours!" Riko said as her left eye twitched, making Kirara and Minami sigh "I think i just need some me time…"
"I think you need more than that, Riko. I think you need a day to yourself." Kirara said.
"I think that would be best. We won't let Mirai find out, so don't-" Before Minami can say anymore, the door flings open revealing an angry Mirai engulfed in a red aura that makes Riko hide behind the chair and makes Minami and Kirara feel a shiver down their spines.
"Minami. Kirara. Riko. Where?" Mirai said in a voice full of furry, making the two women scared while smiling nervously.
"H-Hey, Mirai. She's behind the chair. You look love-"
"Stuff it, Star Princess!"
"Got it."
"Riko! Now!"
"C-coming…"
"Good luck, Riko…" Minami and Kirara thought.
"Kirara, Minami, you traitors!"
