This is an alternate ending.

Stars danced before his eyes as he slid down the wall, feeling the mixture of alcohol and the blow to the back of his head. Lifting his head up to stare his fate in the eyes, he watched Rose crouch down before him. Rose let her fingers trail from Dimitri's temple down to his lips, and Dimitri couldn't help it when his body leaned into her touch subconsciously.

If he had to live a life without Rose, it wasn't worth living to him.

"I'm sorry," Dimitri whispered, making Rose's hand come to a screeching halt on his face. Rose raised her brows at him as she cupped his jaw, lifting his head further up to look him in the eyes.

"Why are you apologizing?" she asked him with a baffled laugh.

Dimitri lifted his hand shakily and wrapped his fingers around her cold wrist. "Because I didn't keep my promises to you. I can't do this anymore. Just put me out of my misery."

Rose shook her head slightly and leaned towards him, brushing the tip of her nose against his neck. She could hear the rush of blood in his veins, and her mouth watered even more at the heat that radiated from him. Rose lifted her head again to look at him, to offer the choice of joining her in immortality.

"Why would I put you out of your misery when you could join me," Rose whispered, a fanged grin crossing her lips. Dimitri's eyes widened at her words, but he couldn't respond because she didn't give him a chance to. Rose pressed her lips firmly to Dimitri's before pulling away, nuzzling at his neck and piercing his skin.

Dimitri gasped in pain before the bliss of her venom seeped through his veins. Dimitri's hand loosened around Rose's wrist and fell limply to his lap, his head lulling to the side. Dimitri's eyes fluttered closed, the smell of Rose filling his senses as he slipped further under the warm blanket of euphoria. Dimitri could feel Rose's long tresses brushing against his body, the feeling of her one hair twisted into his hair, the other clutched his shoulder tightly.

Rose wanted to continue drinking, filling her belly with the sweet nectar that flowed from her former lover. Knowing that she couldn't kill him, Rose reluctantly pulled herself from Dimitri's neck and licked her lips. Dimitri slumped sideways due to the lack of blood and the high that pumped through him. But at the loss of the flow of high, Dimitri's eyes opened and searched for the source. Despite knowing what was going to happen, a sliver of love shone in his eyes as he looked at Rose.

Rose pulled Dimitri upright before settling herself in his lap, lifting her wrist to her lips to tear her skin. A small smirk graced Rose's lips again as she kissed Dimitri firmly before pressing her slashed wrist to his mouth. Holding it forcefully against his lips, Rose waited patiently as her blood trickled into his mouth. A few minutes passed before Rose pulled her arm away from Dimitri's watching his eyes fall closed a moment or two prior.

With a sigh Rose stood from her spot and pulled Dimitri's lack body up, lifting his giant form and distributing his weight over her shoulder. If anyone saw Rose carrying the hulking body like it weighed next to nothing, nobody approached.

Rose knew it was time when the last thump of Dimitri's human heart stopped. Rose stood and stepped over the unconscious body laying in wait on the floor and approached. Dimitri took in his first breath of afterlife and opened his eyes, momentarily confused at the clarity of the ceiling above him.

Dimitri took a moment to assess his senses, the Guardian in him going into overdrive. He comfortable, on something soft and warm. The air around Dimitri swirled with the smell of something familiar, but there was a sweet tang in the air as well. Listening carefully, Dimitri could hear a slightly raised heart rate and a slower one, the slower being closer to him.

"It's about time you woke up, Comrade. Your meal is going to go cold," Rose cooed, coming to loom over him. Dimitri reacted by instinct was up and off the couch he was laying on, colliding with Rose with his new-found speed.

Rose chuckled as they moved towards the wall. It was the echoing of Rose's voice in Dimitri's ears that made Dimitri realize that it sounded different. Clearer, almost like he had had his hearing restored to one hundred percent. Dimitri stilled when he took in a deep breath through his mouth and he could taste the sweet tang in the air.

Blood. Fresh blood. And it called to him like it was the best meal in the world. Dimitri let go of Rose and Rose watched as Dimitri gave over to instinct. Rose let a victorious smile cross her lips as she watched Dimitri make his first kill as an immortal.

She knew that in life and rebirth, that they would be unstoppable.

Dimitri stood up and took a slow breath, letting go of the man that served as his first meal. Slowly he turned to face his woman, his creator, his eternal ally.

"Roza," Dimitri said as he approached Rose. In return, Rose gave him her signature man eating smile and sauntered towards him.

"How do you feel?" Rose asked.

Dimitri took a moment to really think about his answer before speaking. "I feel…free."

Suprise! I've had this sitting in my hard drive for months and wasn't sure about posting it. But I figured, hey, why not! :)
