It was a typical night at the Dinkley home. Madelyn was practicing her latest trick. Angie was getting race night while Dale was watching TV. Velma was out, with the gang yet again. Madelyn took a card out of the deck, seeing that it was the three of spades. Just when she was going to start her trick, the phone rang. Madelyn picked up the phone.

She answered it, "Hello, Dinkley residence."

Velma stated, "Maddie, it's me."

Madelyn perked up and asked, "Velm... what is it? Are you okay?"

Velma reassured, "I'm fine but the van broke down in Gatorsburg."

Madelyn cringed, "This is the one time I wished I had my license... Mom won't come, you know? It's race night..."

Velma groaned, "Yeah I know... But it was worth a shot. Guess we'll have to stay the night."

Madelyn pointed out, "That doesn't sound too bad. At least you don't have to hear Mom screaming bloody murder at the track tonight."

Angie passed on by and told her youngest, "I heard that young lady!"

Madelyn cringed as she smiled awkwardly. She told her older sister, "I'll see you tomorrow morning and we'll talk more then."

Velma replied, "Sounds great Maddie. See you then."

With that, Velma hung up. Madelyn put down the phone sadly when she realized something. Velma was going to spend the night...with Shaggy. Something about that thought made her stomach churn in jealousy. While they were trying to get along before the next fall semester, Madelyn had to admit that she was crazy jealous of her sister. She turned to her phone and decided to text one of her friends, Hot Dog Water.

Madelyn: Velm is spending the night in Gatorsburg.

HDW: Really? Why?

Madelyn: Apparently the van broken down. Velma didn't say how.

HDW: Well I hope, for your sake, that Velma will be alright.

Madelyn: Thanks Marcie.

HDW: ...have you ever told Velma that you are friends with me?

Madelyn: Honestly? No, the subject never came up. Ever since she started to date Shaggy... -_-

HDW: I know that you're jealous. Everyone in Crystal Cove knows that you are jealous. Except Shaggy of course.

Madelyn: He might be oblivious but he is cute.

HDW: I wouldn't know. I'll admit, I don't even know if I'm interested in men.

Madelyn: Fair enough, I won't judge.

HDW: Thanks M.

...

"Madelyn!" Velma shouted, early that morning.

Madelyn groaned, out of annoyance as she woke up. She looked and saw Velma hovering over her. "Velm?"

"Shaggy saved my life!"

Madelyn blinked, not once but twice. Velma had said that a bit fast for her taste. But she got the jest of it. "Shaggy saved you..?"

Velma nodded and then she told Madelyn what had happened that night. Madelyn listened, with interest and jealously in her heart.

"And then Scooby said that the sign at the Drowsy Gator said 'The Dog Dies'."

That got her attention. "Wait...it did? And you didn't investigate that?!"

Velma was a bit taken back by that. She defended, "Cause Scooby was the only one that saw it."

Madelyn scoffed, "So? That shouldn't have stopped you. What if something happened to Scooby? Like he was taken to the Crystal Cove Animal Asylum for the Criminally Insane?!"

Velma rolled her eyes as she walked away from her sister. Madelyn couldn't believe that her sister was so narrowminded. She stormed out of the house and immediately texted Hot Dog Water.

Madelyn: Sometimes I wish I was an only child.

HDW: What happened?

Madelyn: Long story. Think we can meet at the library?

HDW: Sure, I'll see you there in fifteen.

...

When Madelyn got to the library, she was greeted by the librarian.

He smiled upon seeing her and remarked, "Ah, Madelyn. It's so good to see again."

Madelyn replied, "Same to you." She looked around and asked, "Is Hot Dog Water here yet?"

Before he could respond, she sniffed the air as she spun around. There, behind her, was Hot Dog Water.

"Hey M." Marcie greeted.

"Hey Marcie." Madelyn replied.

The two of them shared a hug, as Madelyn pulled away from Marcie. The two of them met when HDW went to the Broken Spine for a cup of coffee to help her study. Marcie was surprised that Madelyn was Velma's younger sister. The two, to her, were nothing alike. The two of them found a table to sit at and read for a bit. Madelyn had told Marcie everything. Marcie shook her head.

She muttered, "I can't believe it. Velma wouldn't do anything?"

Madelyn stated, "I know she said that Scooby was the only one to see it but I'm very fond of Scooby. I don't want him to end up in the Asylum."

Marcie smiled softly, "Yeah that makes sense." She paused and asked, "So why did you want to come here in the first place? The usual avoiding Velma?"

Madelyn nodded. While she knew that wouldn't solve her problems, it was a temporary fix. So she picked up a magic book and started to read. Marcie did the same, reading a chemistry book.

...

The next day, Madelyn woke up and rubbed her eyes. She yawned and put on her glasses. She checked her phone, seeing a message from Marcie. She clicked on it.

Marcie: I got bad news. My Dad's amusement park, Creepy Spooky Terror Land is starting to lose money. We might have to close in a few weeks.

Madelyn frowned. That was bad news. Just when she was about to click on it to respond, her phone started to ring. The caller id read: Velma.

She answered it coldly, "Velma."

Velma replied, "Wow, you really are still mad at me."

"For a good reason. You know I love Scooby." Madelyn pointed out sharply.

Velma told her, "Well you will love this. We are helping Mayor Jones with his re-election campaign."

Madelyn responded, "You're right, I do love it."

"Not helping." Velma said, flatly.
