Author's note: This story is a reimagine of the One piece story with an OP Luffy, a Smarter Luffy but deadlier enemies. This is my first attempt in writing stories so please be patient.

5 years have passed and Luffy is now 15 and arriving back on dawn island Luffy gets off the ship The Red Force with Shanks walking down with him. In the past 5 years Luffy has not only gained a level of mastery over his devil fruit but has learned the essentials of living on and operating a large ship from simple things as maintenance to even navigating.
"This past 5 years has been a genuine pleasure to have you aboard" Shanks says earnestly as he places a hand on Luffy's back "it seems just yesterday we were hearing having a merry ol time with a little anchor boy but now look at ya" Shanks says while holding Luffy by his shoulders "it's almost like your actually grown up shahaha" he said in jest as Luffy gets upset "hey I am grown up I sure as hell can kick your ass" Luffy said while laughing a bit. Shanks starts laughing "you still have your delusions in besting me, I will give it to you that your stronger now then you were last time we dueled but like last time I still know all your tricks and there is nothing you can do about it" Shanks says while pulling down on his eye in a mocking gesture.
"Duel me!" Luffy said loudly "Last time we will see each other for a long while let's have a final duel so I can show you that I can beat you!". Shanks still chuckling says "fine as a farewell present I will kick your ass one last time. Let's bring a small boat and head to that island over there" he said while pointing to a small island just off the coast.
"Yes! Let's do it" Luffy shouts while getting excited and jumping into a small boat nearby. As they start paddling Shanks stops to say "In all seriousness I know you are going to go off and do wonderful things in the world" which brings a small tear to Luffy's eye "You don't know how much it means to have had you and your crew to look after me these past 5 years" Luffy said soberly.
The boat arrives at the island and Shanks says "well now that all the gussy stuff is over let's have a fight to remember" as he unsheathed his sword he says "let's not hold back now, no lethal tactics but I will be knocking you into yesterday" as he gets into a stance, Luffy chuckles and says "lets do it!".
Luffy leans down and touches the ground and slowly pulls out a sword then gets into a stance to immediately need to block as Shanks charges, as Luffy brings the sword up to block Shanks pushes upwards causing Luffy's and his swords to swing out harmless but for a brief moment Luffy needs to step back and in that small moment of distraction Shank kicks Luffy using a bit of haki in his foot to knock Luffy several yards backwards.
Luffy stands up but in the process grabs some rocks and using his power flings them at high speed at Shanks to have Shanks either dodge or block while Luffy stomps on the ground causing the ground around Shanks to open up in attempts to swallow him only to have Shanks swing his sword breaking a section of the ground allowing the earth to close harmlessly. Shanks then charges while swinging his sword from right to left horizontally but at the last second as Luffy brings his sword up chest level in preparation to block does Shanks change direction diagonally cutting one of Luffy's legs off and then doing a leg sweep with a bit of haki to knock Luffy on the ground again.
Luffy places his hand to the ground he starts standing up and while chuckling he says "your always anticipating my attacks too well, it's quite unfair your observation haki is better then mine" Luffy says with a pout as Shanks walks up and says "well I have a little bit more experience with learning ….." as he was talking several arms came out of the ground behind him and grabbed his hands and ankles pulling him backwards and into the ground to only have them be secure. "Well it looks like I win" Luffy said while jumping up and down "you got me, you even got me monologuing to distract me. Well done, now GET ME OUT OF HERE" Shanks said while laughing. Luffy pushes his foot into the ground causing Shanks to start to lift until he is back on his feet.
They head back to the village to see not only his crew but the villagers watching in interest. "Well it looks like we have an audience, might as well take a bow" Shanks says while bowing elbowing Luffy to do the same. As they get on shore Shanks tells Luffy "Well this is it next we meet will be in the New World, keep up your training and remember to always be a good person first" as he said the last words he takes his straw hat off and places it on Luffy's head and says "This hat is my treasure it once belonged to my captain a fearsome and great pirate, so I need you to keep it safe for me. Once you're a great pirate captain you will need to bring that back to me!"
Shanks chuckles "Here is my den den mushi number, keep it with you just in case you need to talk or need help" handing over a small snail transponder. As Shanks and Luffy walk toward the shore the rest of the red haired pirates start bustling to get the supplies to continue on their journey.
As Shanks and Luffy are discussing what Luffy will do now, Lucky Roo runs up to Shanks and says "Can I tell him boss?" Lucky Roo says while biting a chunk of meat off of a chicken leg. Laughing Shanks guestered for Lucky Roo to go ahead Lucky grabbed a chest from his backpack and handed it to Luffy "This is the Gum Gum fruit which is a paramecia fruit that will make the person a rubber man/woman, we found this fruit a few years ago and as I was the one who found it I find myself in a precarious situation either I eat it and being a rubber man or I sell it and since i'm not in a need for Beri I asked Shanks if we could gift it to you and your future crew" Lucky Roo said while Luffy is giving the chest a reverent look.
"Thank you so much! This is amazing" Luffy said while jumping up and down and pumping his fists in the air "my crew is going to be amazing!" Lucky Roo and Shanks start to laugh as they turn to hear Ben Beckman yell out "Captain!". "Captain, Makino says that Garp just called to tell her that he was coming to see Luffy and he is nearby".
Shanks sweat drops then yells loudly "We are leaving! Everyone hurry up and get back on board" he yells while swinging his hands wildly.
"Look Luffy I was hoping to spend a few days here but it looks like our timeline will be pushed up" Shanks says soberly "I want you to remember that the Gum Gum fruit like yours will take the power to swim away so you need to be sure of whom you give that fruit to." Shanks says while walking toward his ship.
As Shanks starts up the boarding ramp he yells "I will see you! In the New World!" Luffy shaken out of his thoughts starts to wave his hands erratically "Thank you Captain! Thank you everyone! I will miss you all dearly"
As the ship sails away Ben Beckman walks up to Shanks and says "That is a one of a kind man" he says gently as Shanks sheds a couple of tears and says "That he is, that he is". He says while thinking of a man he once knew that embodied the will of D and possesses such a spirit as Luffy has.
Luffy sits on the docks as The Red Force sails away remembering all the times he has had on the ship. *Well no time to start reminiscing it's time to find Ace* Luffy thinks while standing up and heading to Makino's bar. Luffy walks in and yells to Makino "Hey!" Luffy said loudly as Makino was wiping a counter down. She laughs and walks around the counter to give Luffy a hug "It is really nice to see you Luffy, I need you to tell me everything! It has been so long since you were here last" Makino says while pushing Luffy into a chair and sitting in another chair beside him with her elbows on the table holding her chin.
Luffy starts to tell Makino about traveling to the grandline and all sorts of encounters he had and how one time a rival pirate crew attacked The Red Force only to have Yassop scare them off by sniping the captain in the shoulder from the crows nest before they could even attempt to board the ship much to Ben's displeasure.
Makino and Luffy sat talking about stories from the grandline and stories about things in the village until the afternoon where the bar starts to get busy. Luffy after a while of bar patrons filtering into the bar he gets up and tells Makino "I think it's time to head out, I need to find Ace since he is leaving soon". Makino walks over and gives Luffy another hug and says "well make sure you get down here once in a while ok?" while looking pointedly at him.
Luffy chuckles and says "you got it!".
Luffy starts to head up toward Mt. Colubo to meet up with Dadan and her bandits *Hopefully Dadan will know where Ace is at* Luffy thinks as he continues up the mountain until he reaches a clearing with a medium sized hut where the Dadan family all resides "man this place is still a dump" Luffy says loudly as he nears the front door only to hear a loud bang and a voice yelling "DUMP who do you think you are" a large woman kicks the front door open wielding a long handled axe "say that to my face!" she yelled again only to look down to see Luffy "oh it's you brat huh, finally back from your nice vacation on the sea. Left without saying a word to anyone".
Luffy looking a bit sheepish said "I did write a letter to Ace and Sabo letting them know I was leaving" Dadan placing her axe head down says "well I guess you're not here to see us huh? Ace is on top of the mountain I guess he has been training up there since you left." Luffy excitedly jumps up and starts to run but turns to say "oh ya Gramps is on his way and should be here pretty soon" as he says that Dadan sweat drops she yells into the hideout "hide the illegal goods Garp is coming and I will not have myself explaining any of this to that monster." Dogra and Magra start to furiously clean and hide things under hidden compartments and trap doors.
As the Dadan family prepares for the arrival of Garp, Luffy is running up the mountain to see Ace. As Luffy gets toward the top of the mountain he sees a tall muscular young man with curly black hair swinging a lead pipe against a carved stump in a rough shape of a person swinging it passed the head and down on the arms then across the chest then finally up and with both hands he swings downward unto the top of the stumps head.
"Wow, impressive" Luffy says while walking up. Ace looks up and chuckles "well well well if it isn't my wayward brother" Ace says while placing his pipe down. Luffy laughs at the comment "Ya ya I am here I promised I would be here for your departure and I wouldn't have missed it for the world" Luffy said while grabbing Ace and giving him a hug "it's so good to see you!" Ace said while still in the embrace "tell me everything, what was it like to be on the grandline, did you fight any marines, did you find any treasure..." Ace continued rattling on questions about pirating.
"Shishishi, I can tell you everything but first let's get to the overlook cliff. Gramps should be here soon" Luffy said while pointing to the cliff. "Alright let's go! But you're telling me some stuff on the way" Ace said laughing.
On the way to the cliff Luffy tells Ace a story about accidentally drifting into the calm belt and having to help fend off a bunch of seakings as Ace listens in rapt attention, as they arrive at the cliff they can see Garp's ship in the distance Luffy with a mischievous look he says "hey Ace do you think we can scare gramps if I shoot a rock pillar at his ship?" Ace starts laughing and says "heck ya let's do it!".
Luffy slides his foot backwards to bring it forward and does a jump and slamming his foot into the ground shooting a fairly large pillar at the marine ship, as it gets closer to the ship you see a cloud of dust appear where the pillar was at and a large cannonball launches right past Luffy's head with a small gust of wind. "Whoa he is shooting cannonballs at us, run!" Luffy said while running away with Ace behind him until they got back to the clearing with where Ace was training. "Brats, it was you!" they hear a voice behind them, as Luffy turns around he sees his Gramps seemingly jumping but flying at the same time "Gramps? You're flying?" Luffy says while looking dumbstruck. "Guarara, it is a marine technique called Geppo it is one of seven techniques we use."
"Alright let's first set up camp and we will talk more" Gramps said while pulling a knapsack out. Garp starts to prepare the campsite and turns to Luffy and says "I need you to get some logs for the fire" and then turns to Ace and says "And I need you to go catch us some food". After clearing the area and setting up the tents Garp sits down waiting for his kids and thinks *well it seems both of them have been training, Luffy especially hmm*.
Luffy arrives back at camp with an arm full of wood and drops them in a small pile in the middle of the three tents and says "here we go" as he rearranges them and starts to strike two rocks together to get a spark until the fire is slowly started. "Very good! That is a good pile." Gramp says while prodding the fire with a stick. "I think we need to talk, Luffy" Gramps says while grabbing a stick with a bit of fire on the end "you seem like you have been training a lot which is great, but i've noticed something is different" he says while pointing the stick at Luffy.
Luffy shuffles from foot to foot thinking how best to broach this subject as he was not aware of the past 5 years with Shank's and his devil fruit *I wonder if i can try to avoid the conversation about Shanks and just talk about the devil fruit* Luffy thinks while grabbing a stick himself. "Well about 5 years ago I met this old lady in Mt. Corvo and she gave me a weird looking fruit" Luffy starts to say as Garp adopts a serious look and says "you ate a devil fruit didn't you." while Luffy just nods "Alright continue" he says while guestering to Luffy to continue "well I met this old lady and she gave me this fruit and at first I just thought it was a terrible and rotten fruit but it make me cough a bunch and part of my face flew off and hit her in the same" as Luffy continues you can see Garps tense up "well it seems she had given me a Earth Earth devil fruit which means" as Luffy gets into a stance and continues "I am an Earth Man" with a little chuckle. Garp is amazed *Earth devil fruit, I have never heard of one like that* Garp stands up and says "well that is an interesting fruit" he leans forward and continues "Logia type of devil fruits although rare can be dangerous. I need you to make sure you are careful with this power. It can be a great help or it might just cause more danger from those who seek to take it from you." he said the last part with the utmost seriousness.
As they were talking Ace had arrived to hear the last part and knowing how dangerous the world is he resolved himself to never let anything happen to Luffy as long as he was alive. "Hey guys I found a small boar for dinner" he said as he lifted a 100lb boar over to where Gramps was at. As gramps was preparing the food Luffy and Ace started to walk a bit from the clearing, as the walk away Ace turns to Luffy and says "it's going to be a difficult couple of years but since you won't have Shanks I need you to promise me that you will be safe for the next 2 years and your own journey" Ace says while putting his arm around Luffy. With a small tear Luffy looks up to Ace and says "it will be a rough couple of years but who knows maybe we will meet in the grandline and duke it out" he says while breaking apart and getting into a fighting stance just to start laughing "Shishi".
Luffy reaches behind his back and pulls his backpack out "I know it's a couple of days away but I thought maybe I could give you your presents early" as he pulls out a small box and hands it over. Ace takes it excitedly and starts to open it to reveal a Den Den Mushi "Wow this is amazing!" Ace says while holding the snail which was dressed similar to him, the snail's skin was orange but had a small patch of black hair and a necklace similar to Ace. Ace holds the snail as though it was a precious treasure and says "Thank you so much" Luffy then smiles and says "well now we can keep in contact during our journeys" as he pulls out a separate Den Den Mushi similar to Ace's but with a straw hat and no necklace "Here is my number" Luffy says while passing Ace a paper "and finally here" Luffy said while handing over a smaller backpack from inside his backpack and inside being a large sum of Beri, shocked Ace goes "that is a lot of Beri Luffy how can I take this?" he said while waving erratically "Shishishi, that is not much maybe enough to get you a schooner, I have found a few treasures while exploring with Shanks and I think you will need this" Luffy said while grinning. "Thank you Luffy" Ace said while giving Luffy a hug with bright smiles and a few tears.
They return to the campsite to a grumpy gramps he says"took you long enough the food is already done" motioning to the food all cut up and on plates "Sorry gramps I wanted to give Ace his birthday present early, shishishi" Luffy said while Ace pulls out the Den Den Mushi "Guarara that is a fantastic and well thought out gift, while I know you won't be a marine and instead to be a pirate having a means of communication with us will be helpful" gramps says while writing his own number down and handing it to Ace.
As they finish eating Ace asks gramps "Do you think you could take me to get a ship?" he says while fidgeting a bit and gramps says "sure we can do that tomorrow or the next day". "Sweet thank you!" Ace says while pumping his fist "I need a good ship so I can conquer the grandline!".
The rest of the night was subue with Luffy and Ace talking about different ships that Ace might be able to buy and what monsters they might see on his journey as they slowly drift off to sleep Ace says "You don't know how much it means to me to have a friend and a brother like you" Luffy smiles as sleep overtakes him.
