Daisy slowly became a part of the team called 20-David and the family had followed. Deacon had invited the entire team, significant others too, over for a barbecue in his garden. Daisy were introduced to David's family; Annie the pregnant wife, Lila the daughter and Matthew the son. Daisy immediately fell into the kids spell and ran around the backyard playing with them. At one point she had tripped and landed on the grass. Deacon were about to step in and call it game over, but Daisy laid on her back pointing to the sky. Shortly after the two children were laying on each side of the new member. All three looking at the clouds passing by, randomly calling out what animals they looked like. "Can we keep her?" Annie said as a joke to David as they watched them enjoy spending time with Daisy. "I wish," Deacon replied with a tiny smile.
Roughly one year after joining the team, they were chasing a group of bomb makers. They left hardly any trace behind, only a lot of destruction. The team, 20-David, were about to give up for the day and head home to get a few hours of sleep before getting back to solve the puzzle, when Hondo got a call from forensic. By the change in face expression, Daisy guessed that it were good news.
"We have a suspect. He's built bombs before, in Utah," he explained the team. "He must have gathered a grew to hit multiple spots at the same time." He added on. Everyone quickly geared up and headed out for the tactical vehicles.
An hour later Luca pulled Black Betty up in front of the house belonging to the identified suspect. The patrol officers had already secured the perimeter, so that the suspect could not get away. Daisy remembered when she used to secure the area and miss out on the action. Now she were right in the middle of it.
The team went over to the mobil headquarters and met up with commander Hicks. "Any sign of David Baker?" Hondo asked. He were standing with his legs slightly apart and his hands resting holding onto the top of his protective vest. "Heat signatures shows only one person in the resident. By the nervous walking, I think it's safe to say it's our guy," Hicks informed them. Hondo nodded and walked out. "Gear up. You know the drill. Chris and Street side 1, Deacon and Luca back side, Daisy you're with me," Hondo said as everyone fell into formation and surrounded the house. Hondo announced that they had arrived to the suspect by yelling "LAPD S.W.A.T.".
They breached the house and Daisy threw a M84 grenade. A loud bang erupted with a bright flash, which quickly disoriented the suspect. Chris and Street both yelled clear, but Luca and Deacon never said a word. Hondo threw a pair of cuffs on David Baker before letting Street escort him outside to the waiting police car. The radio cracked. "Hondo, we got a situation in the back," Deacon's voice sounded slightly concerned. "Daisy, with me." He said as they walked through the house and into a small room. The room were no bigger than a closet yet the architects somehow managed to cramp in a tiny window. Bomb materials were scattered all over a table and the floor. "More targets," Daisy said sad as she walked out with her head down.
Back at the headquarters, Daisy were obviously frustrated over the news that the suspect were not cooperating. She let out a sigh before walking away from the team. Deacon and Chris both looked at Luca to see if he knew why she were suddenly showing her emotions by walking away. "Her father died in a bombing back in New York," he said sadly with his head down. The expression on each member of the team saddened. "This case got to bring back bad memories," Street said. Luca nodded. Only one team member had read her file, Hondo. He knew about the shooting of her brother, the bombing of her father and the sudden death of her mother. He wanted to let her know that he were there if she needed someone to talk to, but he did not want to push her too much. He figured if she needed someone she would either go to Luca or come to him when she were ready.
After two more bombs went off in different parts of the city, Hondo finally got the suspect to talk. He gave up the names of his two companions. Larry and Donald Darhk, two brothers who had nothing to lose but each other. They were filled with such hatred towards the city of Los Angeles, that they had recruited David Baker to make bombs for them. They were the real masterminds behind the terror whereas David was just a tool. As children the two brothers had been forgotten by social services even after numerous complaints about abuse in the family. With no physical prove other than a few hospital trips for 'being clumsy' the social worker had told them that she could not do more at that point. After that the brothers did not complain anymore, they lived through the daily beating and dealing with drunk parents. When they were both in their mid 30's they lost their minds and came up with an elaborated plan to hurt the city that turn its back on them.
The team split into two groups: Team 1; Hondo, Deacon and Daisy, team 2; Chris, Street and Luca. Team 2 went to Donald Darhk's apartment and quickly overpowered their suspect and took him into custody.
The other teams mission were becoming more difficult by the second. Larry Darhk had barricaded himself in a room full of explosives with the neighbours ten year old girl. He had snatched her earlier that morning as a precaution as he had heard rumours about one of the bombers had been caught by the police. She were just an innocent little girl who were playing in her yard at the wrong time.
"You don't have to do this, man." Hondo yelled through the door. Deacon went outside to try getting a clear shot at the suspect, but he had blocked most of the window with a wooden board. What could be seen through the small crack in the corner, were the scared young girl crying as she were being used as a shield. "No clear shot," he said over the comms. Hondo sighed and looked back at Daisy for a second. "Larry I know this must be frustrating for you, but let the girl go. She did nothing wrong!" He yelled trying to convince the suspect to let the child go. He refused. Instead he pressed on the timer of the bomb behind him. "If I can't take out the original target, I can at least take you out!" He yelled with so intense anger that he spat all over the door. Sweat were visibly falling from his face and onto his almost soaked shirt. "Everybody out!" Hondo yelled and ran towards the door with Daisy in his heels. The house exploded a few seconds after and caught fire. The force of the explosion pushed all three S.W.A.T. agents to the ground. Only two got up.
All Daisy could hear were a ringing in her ears, so when her boss rolled her over to check on her, she freaked. She threw her hands up to protect her head from potential hits. "Daisy! Are you hurt?" Hondo asked letting his eyes frantically scan over her body. Deacon quickly appeared from around the house. He were covered in dust and were coughing slightly into his sleeve. He immediately ran over seeing his friend on the ground next to his boss, fearing the worst. Looking down at her shaking body, he knew what were wrong without having to check her further. "Hondo, it's okay. Give her some space," he said patting his boss on the shoulder. Hondo looked at him with a pleading expression. He were worried. "It's anxiety. Give her some air," Deacon whispered. Both men stepped away and let the woman catch her breath and wipe away the single tear that had escaped her eye. "Father" Deacon mouthed to Hondo, who nodded understandingly.
Once they got back to the headquarters, Daisy walked straight past everyone with her head down. Her normally bright and shining blue eyes were red and slightly swollen. If anyone had asked her she had already made up an excuse, the dust from the exploded house got in her eyes, but no one did. The second she were out of view, Chris shot Hondo a "what did you do this time" look. He just shook his head and gathered the team around the computers to explain what had happened.
"I'm going to check on Daisy, alone." Deacon said after the debriefing. He were still covered in dust, his hair were particularly dirty which he found out by running his hand through it and you could hear the residue of the house hit the floor. Chris and Street looked at each other with concern in their eyes. They both knew how it felt to lose someone close to them, so they both felt her pain.
Standing by the door to the locker room, Deacon could hear a rapid breathing. He were almost tiptoeing through the door to not scare her. She were sitting with her back against her locker with her knees pushed up to her face and arms wrapped around them. A layer of dust were surrounding her on the floor. It must have fallen off when she sat down. Her hair were a mess, instead of being in her usually tight braids, it were halfway fallen out on one side. From that angle Deacon thought she looked so small. Almost like one of his children. His fatherly side took control as he sat down next to her. Close enough so that she knew he were there, but far enough to give her space.
"Hey kid, It's Deacon. I'm here if you need me," he whispered loud enough for her to hear through her sobs. She did not say anything. "I need you to slow down your breathing, can you do that?" He asked sweetly. Each breath were shakier then the one before. He followed the movements of her body as she breathed, seeing no improvement in her breathing pattern, Deacon changed his tactics. "I'm going to sit in front of you and hold your hands," he informed her before moving. He was sitting on his knees, gently taking her shaking hands in his. This revealed her face, pale yet red, puffy and in pain. "Follow my breathing, okay?" He coached as he placed her left hand on his chest. It moved up and down to his steady breathing. It were obvious that she tried as you could hear small gasps. With his free hand he gently held onto her wrist, monitoring her pulse. He could feel her trembling body underneath his fingertips. With each shaky breath, Deacon could feel a rising sadness inside him. He had come to care for his colleague a lot over the past few months. She had spent numerous evenings and weekends at his house. Not only as a part of the family dinners, but to play with the children giving him and Annie a night off. He appreciated everything Daisy did for him. He saw her as his own and whenever she were not smiling or being focused on a new jigsaw puzzle he felt slightly upset.
After a few minutes her breathing had slowed and her pulse had fallen into the normal range. "There you go," Deacon said smiling at her. He slumped down on his bottom, leaning against the locker next to hers. "Thank you, Deac." she whispered leaning against him and rested her head on his shoulder. They stayed like that until she were ready to get up.
