Tuffnut (10) POV

It was a dark and stormy night five years before Hiccup found Toothless. My sister and I had gotten in trouble for tipping fish baskets on the docks so our parents had sent us to our room. We had gone, but with much resistance. We could hear our dad lock the trap door so we were truly stuck up there, or were we?

"It's not fair," Ruffnut said as she paced the floor in front of me. "We didn't even dump them in the water."

I nodded and crossed my legs on the bed. "I guess they finally got fed up with us. We did also mess with the yaks again so..."

My sister huffed. " I guess. You wanna sneak out?"

I blinked. "Yeah."

Ruffnut got a mischievous smile across her face and walked over to the window. She opened it and stood up on her tiptoes to look down to the front of our house. I walked over to join her just as our mother and father left, presumably to formally apologize to the fishermen. She waited until they were out of sight before running over to our bed and grabbing as many blankets as she could carry.

"Help me tie these," she said, sitting down and taking two corners in her hands.

I helped her until we had a string of blankets that curled us at least twice. We tied one end to our bedpost and threw the other end out the window. I looked down and swallowed, it was a bit of a drop but my sister wasted no time in climbing up on the windowsill and beginning to climb down. Never one to be left behind in my sisters shenanigans, I quickly followed suit.

Once we were free we had to decide where we would go. If our parents caught us they would've probably put bars on the window so we had to avoid them for as long as possible. Of course, that meant heading for the forest outside the village. Nobody would ever think of looking for us there, mostly because as a general rule nobody goes in.

"How far are we going to walk?" I asked, my legs started to get sore as the elevation increased.

"As far as we need to," Ruffnut answered.

"I'm tired."

"We can't stop, they'll find us."

By now we had gotten into the thicker part of the woods. Pine trees reached high above us and blocked most of the light but we kept walking. Finally, we saw a cave. I insisted we stop and rest.

"Who would come looking for us in a cave?"

"Anybody who knew us, but OK."

The cave was not too deep, but it was dark. I wanted a fire but Ruff said that would give us away for sure. We huddled up together and tried to get some sleep but something kept waking me up. It was a sound but I couldn't pinpoint what it sounded like. Ruffnut had fallen asleep almost instantly so I decided to go investigate on my own.

As it turned out the cave was deeper than we had thought since it curved sharply to the right and down. The sound was definitely coming from the inky darkness below so that's where I headed.

It wasn't easy. The rock was slick with moisture and it got steadily colder the farther I went. Once I started shivering I considered turning back but then my foot slipped on a loose rock and I started sliding down the tunnel. Once I hit the bottom I was surprised to find it much warmer than the tunnel had been. There was even light. Just enough light in fact that I could see a cavern filled with sleeping Terrible Terrors. Thankfully they hadn't woken up when I fell so I could look for a way out of the cave. As I circled around the cavern, mindful of any wings or tails in my way, I searched the wall behind me for an opening of any kind. It took some time, but eventually, I found a gap between some rocks that had a cold breeze running through. I managed to creep through undetected and made my way back to the front of the cave where Ruffnut was still sleeping.

"I was sleeping," Ruffnut interrupted, folding her arms and smirking up at her brother. Tuffnut deflated at her words but was quick to try and bring his friends back into the tale.

"She was sleeping until I woke her and warned her that we should find a different cave to sleep in."

"Oh, really?" Ruffnutt countered. "It seemed more like you were running and screaming past the mouth of the cave being chased by Terrible Terrors. That woke me up and followed you to town. Then our parents had to fight off the dragons while you cowered in the house."

Hiccup watched the twins begin to fight and glanced at the clowning coles of their fire. "It's getting late," he said, standing up and stretching. "We should probably head back." The others nodded and mounted their dragons. Hiccup reminded Barff and Belch to remain behind for the twins before taking off.

It only took a few minutes for the twins to realize they were now alone. With indignant cries, the two mounted their dragon and flow off towards Burk. Their fight was forgotten, for now.

Auther's Note: Hi! Wow, it's been a while. This might be the last chapter but I have many things I have been working on to post so hopefully, I will be a bit more active from here on out. If you have suggestions for scenarios I would love to hear them and work on them in my spare time(what there is of that lol!)
