Chapter 2 here we go. I will make a point to say that this is not political in any way (story overall), it is simply a story. Anyway, enjoy.
It was well into the night when Levi fell asleep in his old room. The walls still bared the various posters and random flyers he had collected in his youth till his departure into military service when he turned 16. Everything was just as he remembered, perfectly preserved and extraordinarily nostalgic as he looked around. The last time he was in the room was two years ago, just after the Second Yom Kippur War's conclusion and his third decoration, the medal of valor for his actions at the battles of Sinai and Hell's Breath. On that day, he became one of only forty to earn the decoration, and said medal lay on display in the living room of the apartment he was within.
Of course, none of this was going on inside the scout's mind. No, he was currently thinking, or more accurately planning for what lay ahead. Since his father said God had decided he join Overwatch, even if Levi doubted that was his true will, he needed a plan of action to battle the Widowmaker. His brain played countless simulations and situations of how they would meet, ranging from long distances to up close, as well as from urban environments to desert landscapes. Each of these little microcosms pitted him alone against the angel of death, almost all ending in his demise or severe injury.
It was to this he woke up, drenched in sweat and panting hard. The scout could imagine the feeling of her shot penetrating his skull and causing his life to end. Sighing, Levi rose from his bed and left the room for some fresh air and walk around the neighborhood. Peace and quiet worked wonders for him, especially at night, when nothing but moonlight guided him and only his thoughts kept him company.
Reaching the door, he tentatively opened it, being careful to not make a sound before exiting into a Jerusalem night.
Shadows glided across the stone covered streets, shifting ever-so slightly with each minute that passed. The buildings along the street were darkened, save for the occasional temporary flicker of light. Silence was all that could be heard in the deserted streets.
Levi had no destination in mind as he walked alone, only knowing he would follow where his feet took him. Time seemed to stretch around him as he let the cool night air clear his mind until all it thought about or noticed was the beauty of the city around him. Absent mindedly, he began to whistle an old hymn he learned when he was young.

When the scout returned to his home, his father was waiting for him, reading a book on the couch facing towards the darkened television. His black payot curls caught the light of the moon and shone in the dark.
"Marie is still asleep, ben. That woman can sleep like a dead man," he chuckled, his hands closing the book in his lap as he turned to face his son.
"Nightmares?"
"Not really, I think. I wouldn't call it a nightmare."
"Then why are you up at this time, ben? Secret girlfriend perhaps?" Levi's father continued to grin.
"I wish."
A beat passed.
"It's just that I've been thinking about the task they want me to do."
"Go on."
The scout smiled forcefully. Since his parents agreed he should join Overwatch, he had been thinking about his target, from the moment they left his parent's bedroom, all through dinner, and into the realm of sleep.
"Abba, do you think I can kill her when the time comes."
The scout remained still as a statue, while his father stared at him intently thinking over what to say to his son.
Finally, he spoke.
"Yes, I do but not because I am your father and always support you. God has blessed you with skills many dream of, ben. God does not hand out these gifts to waste away, and just as he helped our people defeat our enemies long ago, he will help you defeat yours."
Levi nodded at his father's sage advice, which offered little help to his current state of mind, but nonetheless, it made him feel slightly better.
"Did you ever consider becoming a rabbi, abba?" he asked sarcastically, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Definitely not. I would be repenting and offering tzedakah constantly for the things your mother and I do."
"Please no! I don't need to imagine what you do when I'm not around."
The scout cringed as images of his parents lacking clothing assailed his brain, all the while his father laughing loud enough for a deaf man to hear.
"I can never unsee any of that. Thanks, abba."
"Anytime, ben. Anytime…Speaking of time, when do you have to leave?"
"The man said be at the airport by 6:00; it's 4:30 now."
"Better get moving; you're a Kohen, so time is never on your side."
Saying nothing else, the father and son departed from the living room and into the scout's old room to begin packing. The process took less than thirty minutes, due to the lack of clothes that still fit outside of military fatigues and few shirt and jeans—all of which were easily stuffed into a single suitcase. Sometime while setting up what to wear for the flight, a little boy creeped into Levi's room, silent as the night.
"Are you leaving already, achi?" the voice said from the doorway.
"Hey Anoush," Levi whispered, turning around to face his brother and gesturing for him to come over with his open arms. His father finished packing and took the suitcase out of the room, affectionately placing a hand on his younger son's head while he left.
"Unfortunately, little one, I am. As abba said, God has given me this opportunity, I can't disregard."
"But why do you have to go? Why can't you stay? You just came back!" Levi's little brother shouted.
"I know this is hard, believe me, I don't want to leave, but I have to. The decision was not mine to make, really."
Anoush continued to scowl at him before Levi gently wrapped his arms around him, trying to assuage his fears.
"You better call every day, or I'll…I'll…I don't know, I'll do something."
"I promise little one. And because I'm such a nice older brother, I'll tell Mercy about your little crush," he grinned, watching his brothers face turned to red, scowling again.
"I'm just joking, alright. Don't worry, you're secrets safe with me."
Anoush nodded this time, knowing that resistance to the elder Kohen was futile.
"Keep me in your prayers, little one, and tell Misha and mama goodbye for me, okay?"
The little Kohen nodded again.
"Look after her for me, alright, you're now second in command here, buddy."
The scout's brother nodded for the third time, now with the traces of a grin on his face.
"Don't let it go to your head, I'll be back in no time after kicking the crap out of Talon. Now go back to bed, mini-me."
"Hey!"
"Go to bed, Anoush."
"You'll come back, right."
"Of course. I got my reason to fight right here." Levi said, poking Anoush in the chest, causing a giggle to escape from the brother.
"Goodbye, Levi."
"Goodbye, achi."

Levi's father had walked him all the way to Ben Guirion airport, carrying his suitcase the whole way. The walk was quiet, much like the one for Levi during the night, but the company he provided made it feel as if they were silently communicating. Family meant everything to Levi, and they were the reason why he joined the military in the first place. From the moment he stepped into the airport and his father departed, the scout's mind immediately returned to home.
But there was a job to do, and he would have to focus on that the moment he boarded the flight. However, until then, he would remember home.
The airport was unnaturally unbusy when he entered its halls. A single man in a general's uniform, with a shorter woman in a business suit with a Israeli flag pin standing beside him. The woman was the first to speak when he approached. She held out her hand for shaking, which the Scout immediately shook, knowing full well who was in front of him.
"Hello, my name Shira Smith, UN representative of Israel. You must be Captain Levi Kohen."
"Yes, ma'am, " Levi responded, removing his brown beret, the trademark headwear of the Sayeret Golani when not in combat.
"This is General Aleksander, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Force."
The man identified as General Aleksander only nodded at the young man before him. General Shia, nicknamed the ruach by his former captain, was a legend in the IDF. A trained, hardcore veteran of the peace times, the Palestinian Independence War, and the second Yom Kippur War, the man had earned each of his stars and medals with his unbending loyalty and military genius. As for his nickname, he gained it after a special forces operation, codenamed Operation Tiger. Though the details were top secret, the effect was not—it destroyed a terrorist sect based in Syria, which had been responsible for the death of Israel's then president. It was said he was given the name because, like a spirit, he appeared and disappeared when hunting a target.
"Allow me to congratulate you on being the first Israeli to join Overwatch in any capacity." Representative Shira stated, smiling happily.
"Thank you, ma'am."
"Now then, let's get you to your flight, and then we'll talk details."
With that said, the party of three departed for their flight, saying nothing else until they were safely within the representative's private plane. General Aleksander was the first to speak.
"Captain, I was never one for pleasantries, and I sure as hell won't start now, so here's why you're here. As you know, we want you to kill Widowmaker, but we also need someone to watch over Overwatch, so to speak. The last sniper, a Brit, was killed on his first day, the one before him lasted only a week. Snipers and Overwatch don't have a great track record, but I will admit that none of their previous ones had been overly experienced in combat, mainly given the job by the assholes in the UN. You however will be the first fully trained, special forces member to take the longshots. You've been all over the map for the IDF, and well, you'll be doing the same with them. You think you can do that soldier?"
"Yes, sir."
This chapter was intentionally meant to be more or less of filler. The next one, whenever it comes, will actually dive into Levi arriving at Gibralter and our first meeting with Tracer. Also, I absolutely love writing Levi's dad. He's just a fun character, who will have more appearences later.
