Chapter Two: I knew you were trouble

The interns were on their third week at Seattle Grace, when Chief Webber came to them with an exciting announcement.

"I have an announcement," Chief Webber said. "Starting this week, you all will each be assigned a different resident or attending to work with everyday, so that you get an opportunity to try out different specialties."

The interns looked at each other, excited.

"You can all go find your residents, and they will tell you who's service you will be on for the day," Chief Webber said, before leaving the room.

"Grey, you're with Dr. Torres, Hummel, you're with Dr. Sloan, Morgan, you're with Dr. Karev, and Dalton, you're with Dr. Bailey." Cristina said.

The interns went with the doctor they were assigned to, all excited to be with someone new.

"Today, we have two scheduled C-Sections, and a few consults," Addison said.

Quinn and Harriet, the other women on Dr. Montgomery's service for the day, nodded.

"Hey Michelle, how are you feeling today?" Addison asked, as they entered a patient room.

"Pretty good," said the patient, smiling.

"Good," Addison said, putting on gloves. "These are my interns for the day, they'll be watching your surgery later."

Michelle nodded. "What are your names?" She asked them. "If you're gonna see my insides, I would like to at least know your names."

"Quinn Fabray," Quinn told her.

"Harriet Payne."

"Nice to meet you," Michelle told them.

"Oh, sorry," Quinn said. She had been walking down the hall, when she ran into Alex.

"No, you're good," he said, leaning over to pick up the chart Quinn had dropped.

"Thanks," Quinn said. He nodded.

Quinn looked to the side, and saw a few other interns staring at them, and blushed a bit.

"Hey, if you're interested," Alex started.

"I should go!" Quinn said, interrupting him. "Dr. Montgomery doesn't like to be kept waiting."

"Oh, yeah, me too," he said.

"Your Kurt Hummel, right?" asked Mark.

Kurt nodded. "It's an honor to work with you, Doctor Sloan," he told him. "I've read about tons of your work, it's really phenomenal."

Mark smiled for a moment, as they walked into the burn unit. He led Kurt to a patient room. On the bed lay a middle aged man, who had severe third degree burns on one side of his face. Kurt held back a gasp when he saw him.

"This is Howard Millin, a 42 year old male, who was admitted for third degree burns to the right side of his face, after an accident with a blow torch," Mark said. "Over the past week I have been removing dead skin, and working towards returning his face to its previous state."

"Dr. Sloan's been getting me my face back," Howard told Kurt. "This is what I looked like before, he promised to make me even more handsome," Howard said, holding up a photo of himself.

Kurt smiled. "Well, if anyone can do it, it's Dr. Sloan," he said.

"Scalpel," Addison said, holding out her hand. Quinn handed it to her, and Addison made a careful incision in Michelle's abdomen.

Quinn and Harriet watched, as Addison flawlessly performed the C-Section.

Suddenly, the monitor started beeping fast, as Michelle's abdomen started to fill with blood. "Dammit, she's bleeding from somewhere," Addison said, looking around her abdomen.

"What's happening!" asked Michelle, seeing the worried looks on her doctor's faces.

"Put her under now," Addison instructed.

"A blood vessel has a big tear in it," she said after a few moments. "Clamp," she said.

A few minutes later, it was fixed.

"Ok, we can close now," she said.

They had almost finished closing, when suddenly, Michelle flat lined.

"Code blue!" Addison said, starting chest compressions. "Page Cardio, and get me a crash cart!"

She continued chest compressions until someone brought a crash cart in. She picked up the paddles of the defibrillator, as Quinn took over the chest compression.

"Charge to 100," Addison said. "Clear!... Charge to 200... Clear!"

Then, Michelle's heart rate went back to normal, and the doctors breathed a sigh of relief.

Quinn walked into the locker room. She took her hair down from the bun it had previously been in, and put in a clip to hold it back.

"He likes you," said another of the interns.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"Dr. Karev. He's into you."

"What are we, middle schoolers?" She asked, walking away.

"We saw how he was looking at you earlier," another of the interns explained.

Quinn stopped walking, and turned to face them. "Even if he did, I would never date him. I'm not going to be the intern who screws a resident, and gets dumped, and then humiliated."

Rachel sat down at a lunch table next to George. Over the past two weeks they had grown closer, and became friends.

"Who's service are you on?" George asked her.

"Dr. Shepard," Rachel said. "What about you."

"Dr. Torres," George said, cringing.

"What's wrong with her?" Rachel asked.

"She's my ex-wife," he said.

Rachel didn't know what to say, so she just raised her eyebrows and nodded. "Wow, so you really do know everyone here already," She pointed out.

"Uh, yeah," said George, wanting to change the subject. "So, how's Dr. Shepard?"

Michelle looked down at her son contently, as Addison, Quinn, and Harriet entered her room.

"How are you?" Addison asked her, opening her chart.

"Great," Michelle said, looking up for a moment. "Thanks doctors. You saved my life," Michelle said.

"Just doing our jobs," Addison said with a smile.

"He's adorable," Quinn told Michelle.

"Thank you," Michelle said, and smiled at her.

"How do you feel? Any pain?" Addison asked her, her pen over a clipboard, read to write down notes.

"Just a little sore," Michelle told her.

"That's to be expected," Quinn said, looking over Michelle's stats.

"Quinn, can I talk to you for a moment?" Addison asked, as she walked by Quinn in the hall later that afternoon.

"Of course," Quinn said, turning to face her.

"You show a lot of promise in my specialty, so would you be interested in staying on my service the rest of the week?"

"I would love to," Quinn told her. Addison nodded.

"I'll see you later," she said to Quinn.

The rest of the day was very busy, and Quinn hardly had any breaks. Once she finally got a break, she went straight to the on-call room.

She walked in, and laid down on the bottom bunk. She had been lying there for a few minutes, and was almost asleep, when Alex came in. He looked over at her, and half smiled.

"Mind if I join you?" he asked, as she sat up sleepily.

Quinn thought for a moment, before standing up, and walking over to him. "I'm not very tired anymore," she whispered.

"Please don't tell anyone," he said.

She nodded. "I won't."
