AN: Thanks for all the reviews. I don't know when I will go back to finish my other story, but I hope getting this story out will give me inspiration to go back and finish. This story I am going to keep Donna from being the dumb blonde she turned into in season 8. As most that do T7S ff, it is difficult to get around the timeline of the show. But for this story Jackie has graduated, Jackie and Hyde had broken up at the beginning of January 1979, got back together in February. Jackie's grandmother passes away at the end of March, so Hyde comes back in April.
Randy took Donna back to her house that next morning as Jackie waited at his apartment, Donna would call Jackie to let her know that Hyde was not at the Foreman's then Jackie would come over to talk to Kitty before heading to Chicago.
In the car Randy looked over at Donna, they had become pretty good friends over the last month, he had a slight crush on her but understood her relationship with Eric Foreman. "So you are going to move with Jackie?"
"Yea, she said something yesterday after we left the Foreman's before you came over. She made a good point I didn't have to sit in this town and wait for Eric, I could go ahead and get started in school, I really liked Marquette and there are public colleges there if Eric would want to be in the same city when he gets back. And I really after what Jackie told us last night I want to be there for her."
"You don't know how much that means to her. But look I don't know that she told you but she hasn't had an easy pregnancy, she was in the hospital for dehydration for a couple days last week. So she really needs to be careful."
"I guess that explains the weight loss? I didn't even think about how much thinner she was when she told us she was pregnant and it seems like she should be gaining weight."
"Yea, she actually has a doctor's appointment tomorrow, one of the reasons she needs to go back to Chicago today."
As they pulled into the driveway Donna had a flash of Pam Burkhart in her head, "Um what about Pam?"
Randy put his head down on the steering wheel, "Pam couldn't be bothered to make it to granny's funeral. Granny left what she would have left to Pam to Jackie. I am sure Pam won't be happy when she finds out. I think it is part of why Jackie wants out of Point Place and even Chicago, Pam will come here to look for her and then will probably go to mom and dad's as dad was the executor of the will."
Donna stared straight ahead, she had really hoped Pam had changed when she came back and they moved back to the mansion. She hated herself for not realizing back at Christmas that Pam had taken off again.
"I am going to talk to my dad, I want to go with Jackie to Chicago, I don't want her to keep making the trip alone. I also want to be there for her doctor's appointment." She looked at the driveway, "Well it looks like Hyde might have gone into Grooves, so you get to go sit in a parking lot waiting for WB."
"Yea, I really would love to just kick his ass. I can't wait to see his expression when he realizes I am Jackie's cousin. That he is the world's biggest idiot."
Donna laughed as she got out of the car, "And that is in a world with Michael Kelso"
Donna went over to her house to find her dad, she sat down with him and told him everything that was going on.
"Dad I am going to move to Milwaukee with Jackie, I don't have to stay here and wait on Eric, I can do that in Milwaukee. I am going to look into starting Marquette this summer. Jackie needs me and I need to start college other than community college."
Bob looked at his daughter he knew this would happen, it should have already happened. "I understand Pumpkin, I am proud of you being a good friend to Jackie. You both need each other. If I don't get to see Jackie before she leaves, let her know I am here for her, I want to be a grandfather or uncle or whatever to her baby. She is like a sister to you and another daughter to me. I wish I had listened to you both about Pam. I think I hurt her, our relationship wasn't the same after that and I missed that."
"Well you will have time to spend with her, I mean she won't be back here for some time I know that. But you are going to be welcomed to visit."
"What about Hyde? I mean how is that going to work as far as the baby?"
"I am not sure yet, it might depend on him what part if he wants anything to do with the baby. That is another reason I am going with her, I might be the one to take the baby to Hyde or whatever. Jackie right now doesn't want to have anything to do with him, and after last night I don't blame her. I know this is going to be hard, but we don't want him to know where we are. I am going to tell him I am moving to Madison for school."
Bob sat there, the kids were growing up, some faster than others. "OK, anyone asks you are in Madison and I am not sure where Jackie is."
"Thanks, that might be good if Pam shows up looking for Jackie as well. Randy worries she is going to show up in a few months or so because well Pam's mom gave what would have gone to her to Jackie. I need to call Jackie she is going to come over and talk to Red and Kitty, she wanted to wait and make sure Hyde was gone. Then I am going to pack I am sure once we find a place in Milwaukee I'll be back to get the rest of my stuff if that is alright"
"You need anything, furniture or whatever let me know" Bob said as he stood up to hug his daughter. It would be getting lonely in that big house by himself, maybe it was time to find something smaller. Maybe he would move to Milwaukee too and that he could be there for the girls.
Randy sat in the parking lot, he was to wait for WB before going in the store. His father had known WB for years. His dad had been the lawyer for Grooves as he had worked in both Wisconsin and Illinois. Despite his parents' wealth he was given that he needed to work for his extra expenses, so starting in high school Randy had worked for WB at different stores. When WB found out about his son, he had called Randy's dad knowing that that his sister lived in Point Place, it seemed like a small world when Mr. Pearson said that his niece was Jackie Burkhart the girlfriend of Steven Hyde. When WB told them about his first encounter with Jackie and the set down she gave him, he couldn't help but laugh and be proud of his niece. She was no longer that spoiled princess his sister had raised. Jackie did a lot of growing up after Jack was arrested and Pam left.
WB never told Hyde about the connection he had to Jackie's uncle. He was upset over how his son had reacted. He blamed himself somewhat for being too lax on him with the store, for not being in his life. He hated Edna Hyde for keeping Steven from him, though he wasn't sure he would have had a better life growing up looking white with a black father. Hyde would have had a hard life with that too, just different hard that he already had, WB just didn't know what would be better. WB was grateful for Red Foreman's influence in his life, despite it all he had done a good job with the boys.
WB got out of the car and walked over to meet Randy, "Hey how's Jackie?" WB knew Jackie had been in the hospital, he had a feeling what was going on but wasn't going to say till someone confirmed it to him.
"She's OK, last night was rough, he was a total jerk to her. Her and Donna are thinking of moving to Milwaukee, Jackie can't live in Point Place anymore. I think she is going to talk to you about helping her find a job and a place to live. Donna is going to move with her and enroll in Marquette."
WB breathed a sigh of relief, glad that Donna was going to stick with Jackie. His son had a tight group of friends, he knew they covered for each other when one of them did something wrong. This was a case he was glad that they weren't covering for his son, because his son was totally in the wrong.
WB walked into Grooves with Randy behind him. "Hey son welcome back, glad you remember you had a store to run."
Hyde was at the register, he looked up as WB walked in with the guy that he couldn't place but knew he had seen before? "Hey Leo was able to keep everything running I mean we have records and even money and he didn't turn the store into some hippy orgy."
"That is because as soon as Red called that you were MIA I brought Randy here to take over MY store." WB motioned toward Randy.
"I've seen you around before, but can't place it" Hyde said looking at the guy questioningly.
Randy couldn't help but laugh this was going to be good, "Well the first time you might have seen me you were pulling your friend Kelso off of me as I was talking to Jackie, all you idiots was wearing trench coats. I think Jackie later told me you guys were going to streak when Ford visited Point Place. You all chickened out but Eric. Then you saw me a month ago in Jackie's motel room, when I came over to keep her company after OUR grandmother had passed away."
It clicked he was the guy in Jackie's motel room, it went over his head that he had said OUR grandmother. "You're Jackie's boy toy"
"Dude you are sick, did you not hear I refer to OUR grandmother? Jackie is my cousin. But I got to say at least Kelso tried to come after me for talking to Jackie, you was just a jerk that left."
WB looked around no one was in the store, "OK we are locking the door and going in the office to talk, opening later." He went over and locked the door and flipped the sign to closed. "Now let's go in the office."
WB took the seat behind the desk as the boys both took the chairs on the other side.
"OK, first some family history. Jackie didn't even know till a few weeks ago that her uncle James Pearson is the lawyer for Grooves, I talked to James back after I first met you knowing that James' sister lived in Point Place. James' sister is Pam Burkhart."
He sat back and let that sink in. "Son it is time you grow up, this barely getting by and getting high and drunk is going to do nothing but lead to an early grave. Red told me about the stripper that showed up last night. I thought you better than that, better than finding a version of your mother."
Hyde snapped his head up, "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean when I met Edna, she was a stripper, truthfully she never knew I had money. Back then not many would expect that kind of thing from a black man. I had gotten into it with Angie's mom and ended up there. Skip to nine months later and you were born. I never told her about the stripper I spend a week with, but we ended up breaking up over other issues."
"Ma told me she was in water ski show, Tommy Barrlette or something show."
"You most likely ended her stripper career, Tommy was the guy that owned the place. So where did you and the stripper end up last night?"
"She wasn't like Edna in she thought I had money, when she realized I really didn't and saw where I lived she told me about her other husband."
Randy was fuming, "So you let Jackie go over a dumb stripper because you THOUGHT she cheated on you? Man Fez is right you need the stupid helmet."
"Look she lied to me about a stupid job and gave me a freaking ultimatum."
Randy stood up now to stand over Hyde, "Yea and she told you the truth in that letter she hates that she doesn't have the perfect life everyone expects from her. She couldn't face that Granny was dying or that her mother took off again and no one had noticed!"
Hyde looked up at Randy, "What do you mean her mother took off again?"
"Aunt Pam left at Christmas, went to Mexico. Didn't even come back for her mother's funeral. We were just surprised she didn't make it for the reading of the will. After last night and what you said to Jackie as you led your fake wife down to the basement Jackie is leaving Point Place for good. You won't have to worry about seeing her again. She just wanted to know she was cared about and wanted, you answered that well enough last night." Randy turned to WB, "I need to go, I'll be at the apartment we might need to talk"
Randy walked out of Grooves, he met Michael Kelso outside the door. "Hey Jackie gave me this letter to give to Hyde."
"Kelso, look wait a few days before you give it to him. I want to give Jackie a chance to get out of Point Place and maybe settled away from Hyde."
"What happened?"
"Well he never read her original letter she wrote explaining what was really going on in Chicago."
"Oh, I am going to make sure he reads this. After the way he and Jackie were on me when I found out Brooke was pregnant. I mean I was ready to walk away but he and Jackie talked me out of it, and I am glad. I'll be damned if I am going to let Hyde walk away from this."
By this time they were at their cars that were parked next to each other. "Look, I don't know what Jackie is going to do about letting Hyde have say in the baby's life. After all he has done, well I don't know. I'll let you know when we should let him have the letter, but then you are going to have to make sure he reads the entire letter."
"OK, well I need to go to work. We can meet up at your place tonight and talk. Be less likely for Hyde to find us since he doesn't know where I live, and I hope it stays that way. If Jackie comes back with the baby or something. She might let him see the kid, but I think she is done with him."
"Yea this is going to be hard, I mean I couldn't imagine not at least seeing Brooke when I get Betsey or anything. But I need to get to the station, we'll talk later."
WB sat there in the office staring at his son, "Steven I don't know if I truly understand the relationship you had with Jackie, at least from your side of things. I guess Jackie is more of a talker and knowing her aunt and uncle has given me insight of what her life has been like. Did you know back after Thanksgiving Pam tried to make Jackie move to Chicago to live with her grandmother? Jackie was 18 and she couldn't be forced by Pam to do much of anything. Plus when James and his mother found out why Pam was trying to get Jackie out of Point Place they refused to let her stay with them. They didn't agree with Pam's reasoning."
Hyde looked at WB, "What was Pam's reasoning, me?"
"In a way, but you two had been together long enough that for Pam to suddenly object was laughable as James said. No the reasoning was me."
"I don't get it" Hyde admitted, his father was rich, that should have been right up Pam Burkhart's alley, not to mention he was friends with Pam's brother.
"You know if you took those glasses off sometimes you might notice the difference between us and the thing we only share is the fro."
"So the fact that you are rich and friends with her brother mean nothing because you are black to Pam?"
"Exactly, James and his family stood behind Jackie. Pam up and left Jackie again, didn't even show up for her mother's funeral. James' mother had her will reworked, Pam got nothing. Jackie now has a nice nest egg to be able to take care of herself. Which I guess for a while she had hoped you would be there, but from what I understand she's been scared, since her mom left she has been waiting on an eviction notice."
"Well now she can get her own place here" Hyde said he knew she never wanted to live in that house if she could help it, too big, too fancy and too cold. It was a house not a home.
"I don't know, she can go anywhere now. Not like she has anything to hold her here now."
"What even if we didn't work out she still has her friends."
"Steven, I heard what you said to her last night, I have a gut feeling when she said you would never see her again if you kept Sam around"
"But what now that Sam's gone?"
"Steven, Sam is gone because she was scamming you, I don't know how Jackie will see it, Randy wasn't impressed and they are so much alike at times they could be siblings rather than cousins. I am still trying to understand that Jackie left a letter that her grandmother died, how did you jump that she wasn't with a family member that night?"
Steven looked down, "I didn't read the entire letter, I just saw that she had left and wadded up the letter and put it in my pocket. Later when she called to tell Foreman goodbye she apparently asked to talk to Red, Red gave me her motel information later in case I wanted to check on her as he put it."
"They thought that you knew, Jackie told Kitty before she left that her grandmother was dying. Red said he couldn't believe you took off like you did finding Randy in her room. You don't want to know my reaction when I found out."
"I am sorry, I still thought well I didn't realize she had went to Chicago for a funeral. I knew she had family in Chicago, she had even talked about Randy before. I went there planning to ask her to marry me, and I guess seeing another guy in her motel room, I snapped. I promised after I cheated on her last time I would never do it again."
"Steven you are now going to have to decide what you want in your life. And I hate to say it, without Jackie."
"I do nothing but hurt her. I think I am meant to be alone. I never thought I would have a girl like her, maybe it wasn't meant to be."
"Look work in the store today, if you need anything call me. Maybe you might try finding a place to live. If you find something let me know, I'll help you out. You need to grow up. I would like for you to let Randy possibly keep working here for a bit, you can't always be here. Though I am not sure if you need to work together"
"Yea, I don't think he likes me too much."
"Can you blame him? To him you just used and abused his cousin."
That thought hit him in his gut that seemed like what Edna did to him. "Is that what everyone else sees? Is that what you think?"
"Steven to be totally honest with you, no. I don't understand you. I mean you say you didn't deserve her, but you never acted like you got something that you didn't deserve. Most people when they get more than they deserve they cherish it. Things between me and Angie's mom didn't work out, and for a long time it affected the relationship with Angie. Honestly I don't deserve Angie, but I am not going to take my daughter for granted, the same with you. Even if I want to ring your neck for how you treated Jackie and my store. Look I have some meetings I need to get to. Call me if you find a place."
After WB left he sat there and thought about what he said. He remembered when Red and Kitty first took him in, he worked doing chores, he got a job to give them money for when things were tight. He made sure they knew he appreciated them letting him stay. But somewhere along the way he took them for granted. And even when Jackie and him were official he never really cherished what he had. He had the most gorgeous girl in Point Place and because of what? His pride? His reputation? He didn't treat her right, and even then she still loved and cherished him. But he screwed up, he wouldn't find a girl like Jackie, and he didn't think he would want anyone else. Leaving Jackie that night was stupid, but to pick Sam over Jackie topped anything.
Jackie and Donna went into the kitchen of the Foreman home. They both were packed and ready to leave for Chicago. They were a little surprised that WB and Red was sitting in the kitchen waiting on them with Kitty. Kitty went over and hugged Jackie.
The girls all took a seat. "So I am going to head back to Chicago, I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow that I can't miss. But Donna and I have been talking and we are going to look for something in Milwaukee to live."
Donna took over, "I got into Marquette and there is no reason I have to stay here with Eric in Africa. Jackie needs to get away and I don't want her to do that on her own right now."
Jackie had tears in her eyes, "This isn't how I wanted to let you all know, but if you can promise not to tell Steven," She paused while they all agreed, "I am pregnant. That was the main reason of the ultimatum, I didn't want him to feel like I backed him into a corner, I wanted to know if he wanted me for me and not for some obligation. I am going to let him know, but it is up to him if he wants anything to do with our child. I hate to put you guys in this situation, but I am keeping my promise never to see him again. So it might be that you guys are the go between if Steven wants to see our baby."
Red was the first to speak, "I was wondering if you was pregnant, we will be there for you in whatever you need."
Kitty took Jackie's hand, "This baby will be like a grandchild to us no matter what Steven does. You need anything you call."
WB sat there processing what she said, "Jackie, do you have a place in Milwaukee yet?" Donna and Jackie both shook their heads, "I have a condo I don't use much, it has 4 bedrooms, you could each have a room and one for the kiddo and a guest room if Kitty or one of your friends need to stay the night. I wasn't able to provide for Steven when he was growing up, let me provide this for my grandchild."
Jackie looked around at the adults in the room, along with Bob these adults were the most important people outside of her aunt and uncle that she had. "I have to cut Steven from my life, but I won't be like Edna and cut him from his child's. And I can't cut you guys, I am going to need you all. You mean too much to me. I have a letter that Michael is to give to Steven. I felt like it was important for Michael to be the one to give him the letter, when Michael found out about Betsey it was Steven and I that talked him into doing the right thing when Brooke said he was off the hook."
Donna looked at the time, "Hey I hate to cut this short, but we need to hit the road to beat the late afternoon traffic."
Jackie hated leaving these people, especially the Foreman's but they needed to leave, especially in case Steven showed up, Jackie was ready to leave Point Place to avoid seeing him.
The girls stood up, WB took and embraced Jackie, "I am sorry things didn't work out with Steven, but thank you for letting me be a part of your life and your child's life. Call me before you head to Milwaukee, we can meet at my house before going to the condo. And let me know what the doctor says tomorrow." He gave her a stern look.
"I will, I think may stay in Chicago a week before we head to Milwaukee. Donna will need to get her car." Jackie knew there was a chance she would be back in Point Place sooner or later.
Red spoke up, "I'll get with Bob and maybe we can take Donna's car to the condo this week so it will be waiting for her. You girls look out for each other and keep in touch with us." As he took and hugged both girls who was like daughters to him.
Kitty looked at the two girls she thought would one day be her daughter in laws, there was still hope for Donna but she couldn't blame Jackie. "I'll make sure to have some casseroles and cookies and brownies fixed for Red and Bob to take and have waiting for you when you get there." Everyone minus WB knew Kitty would go into full cooking/baking mode when the girls left. "And you keep me updated on how you are doing and that grandbaby"
"I will Mrs. Foreman, thank you for everything. I have been learning to cook with my aunt and have my granny's recipes. I am not getting as distracted now and doing pretty good."
The girls walked out to the driveway and was greeted by three boys Randy, Fez and Kelso.
"Sweetpea" Kelso said as he pulled his ex-girlfriend into a hug. "you need any help or anything let me know, I can come to Chicago if you need help moving or anything."
"Thanks Michael, I might need you to get some things out of my old house." Jackie reached in and took out a key, "I'll let you know, and here you might need this. If my mother shows up, you can give it to her. I don't want to go back there"
"I'll take care of it. And I am going to wait to give Hyde that letter, I think Randy and I figure we might wait till you are in Milwaukee, that way he won't track you down at your aunt and uncles. I'll make sure he reads it." Kelso said in a more serious than most were ever able to hear from the known jokester.
"Thank you Michael. I have enjoyed spending time with Brooke and Betsey when I have been in Chicago. We already have a place to stay in Milwaukee, I'll call you with our number and I expect visits. Just as long as you keep it from Steven. I guess if he wants to see his kid we will work something out, he just won't see me."
They had switched and Fez came over, "My goddess, I promise this is one secret I am going to keep. Nothing will break me into giving that SOB where you are. You take care I can't wait to meet you little one."
"I know thank you Fez, you have been a great friend. Take care of everyone" It was an unspoken request for him to take care of Steven.
The girls got into Jackie's car with Donna driving, Jackie cried the first hour of the drive to Chicago.
"Donna am I doing the right thing?"
Donna understood Jackie, even more now that she knew what she had been through in the last several months. "I think so, I mean you can always change your mind."
"Part of me hates I took him back this last time, I wouldn't be in this situation, but I don't know if I can regret this baby."
"I know this might seem personal, but I thought you was on the pill?"
"I was, remember when we went to the Packer's game?" Donna nodded, "I walked home afterwards, it was easier than getting a ride with Steven, it started to sleet before I got home. I guess I should have driven, anyway I ended up sick. They don't tell you but antibiotics cancel out the pill. I had just finished when we went with Red and Kitty to the car show. Steven had been so sweet that day…Donna do you know what it is like to be with a boy that won't say I love you? I mean I know Eric messed that up in the beginning, but to hear it once in two years? I mean for the most part I thought his actions showed it, but lately it was harder to tell. I know the ultimatum was stupid, I just panicked."
"Jackie when we all first met, you was shallow, self-centered, and well demanding, but I realized I guess really when you moved in and you helped pay for my ring, I got to see the real you, all that other stuff was your Zen, just like Hyde. You gave a lot in the relationship, and I don't know if I could have been in a relationship where I never heard back I love you, that does seem worse than I love cake. God both of those boys are idiots."
"Well Steven has 3 things he loves, Zeppelin, his El Camino and French fries. I don't know what is more shocking, I don't make the top three or that Kitty doesn't."
"Yea that is pretty bad. Do you think his own kid might make the top three?"
"Honestly I don't know. He might try to make it like I cheated on him or was with someone when we were broken up. Who knows, I mean he came home from a month bender in Vegas with a wife. I don't know him anymore. Honestly I don't know if I should trust him with our baby."
"Well if anything he won't be left alone with the baby, I mean one of us will be with the baby too. You could state he has to be sober before he gets to see the baby when you have paperwork drawn up. Maybe Red or WB to make sure of it."
"Brooke made sure that Michael knows he needs to be sober, she hasn't had any issues, but then she is there to hand Betsey over to Michael."
Donna reached over and patted Jackie's leg, "Hey you know you can trust me, WB, Red or Kitty to watch over the baby the baby's father if need be. We have several months before we have to face that, and figure things out."
Jackie started to relax, they had months, she needed to get through the pregnancy first and to do that she needed to calm down and be stress free.
Donna wanting to change the subject, "Do I get to go to the doctor's with you tomorrow?"
Jackie smiled at that, "Yes you can, my aunt has been going with me, but we are not that close and it has been awkward for us. Just no laughing at me in the stupid gown"
Donna couldn't help but chuckle, "We are going to have so much fun with your baby."
"I really hope it is a girl, then I can get her and Betsey matching dresses"
Donna was laughing now, "What are you going to do if it is a boy?"
Jackie's face fell, "That is one of my biggest fears, I don't know what to do with a boy, especially a son of Steven Hyde. I mean what if he is just like his father?"
That had stopped the laughter, "Jackie you will show that baby all the love and care that you and Steven never got. It will have the love of its grandparents and all the aunts and uncles, this baby is already loved. It won't have to hide behind a bitchy attitude or Zen."
Now Jackie had tears forming in her eyes, "Thank you Donna. You are going to have to keep me grounded. This baby is going to be so spoiled."
