Alex was on the ice cooling down after her morning practice. She was doing quick laps around the rink trying to clear her mind. She still was trying to figure out what happened a week prior. She couldn't get Olivia out of her head. She never found herself at a loss of words with anyone. She hated the feeling of being out of control. She threw a jump every time she thought about, Olivia saying she wasn't her type.
"Hey skater." Trevor glided on the ice.
Alex slowed down to look at the tall man, "Where are your hockey boots?" Alex smirked looking at his boots.
"You look like you needed company." He slowly skated beside her. "What's going in your head?"
"I'm fine."
"Bull shit I have never seen you pop a triple flip. That is your signature jump." Trevor called Alex out on her skating. "So what is frazzling your head."
"Did you just say frazzle?"
Trevor grabbed Alex's hand and spun her around, "Don't change the subject."
"When we tried to…" Alex started the statement, "Way back when. Was I ever your type?" Alex asked, still being upset with Olivia's statement.
"Alex, you are everyone's type. When you walk in a room you turn heads." Trevor explained. "You were my type but I certainly wasn't yours."
Alex shrugged her shoulders, "You never know you could have been mine." Alex not knowing what is going on in her head.
"We were fourteen and stupid." Alex laughed at how she and her oldest friends. They tried to lose their virginity to each other but it was a painful experience for both of them. "So who's this girl that has you in a mess?"
Alex thought about the short brown hair to match those brown eyes. "She said I wasn't her type."
"Oh." Trevor laughed at his friend.
"What was that tone?" She broke their grip.
"You're falling for the only girl that doesn't think you are attractive."
"No," Alex scoffed. "Because you know what, she's not my type."
"If you say so?" He skated away from her to stretch his legs.
Alex watched the hockey player's footwork. She enjoyed seeing her friend doing the moves they used to practice on the rink as kids. He jumped a double toe and landed it clean, "You've still got it." She cheered him on.
Trevor nodded his head, "Of course I do. And I can land my jumps." He taunted the blonde.
"According to Casey she sleeps around."
"So, you don't know that is true."
"I heard her having sex in the bathroom so Casey must be right." Alex confessed.
"You are such a cliche."
"Meaning?"
"You want her because you can't have her. What about this Amanda chick you were hooked on. Can't you go with her?" Trevor asked his companion.
"Hey twinkle toes get off the ice." One of Trevor's teammates yelled across the rink.
"So either think about this girl or go with the one that seems to be into you." Trevor skated to his team.
Alex sighed out not liking her options. She headed to the locker room to take a breather. Her cell phone rang in her locker.
"Yeah, Case?" Alex snapped out.
"Whoa are you okay?" Casey asked her roommate.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Amanda wants to know if you are going to come to watch us practice tonight? And we can head out for drinks." Casey offered the information.
Amanda didn't really hold Alex's interest at the moment but maybe she could settle for a safe option. "Yeah… Yeah I'll come over."
"Going out twice in one week are you sick."
"No, I am learning how to have a life outside of the rink." Alex smiled at her roommate.
"Alex!" She heard her mother's voice coming towards her.
"Case, I got to go." Alex hung up the phone throwing it into her locker. She turned to her mother. "Mom, what are you doing here?" Alex looked at the older version of her.
"Costume designs. Have we picked out your music yet?" Jane Cabot adjusted Alex's shoulders, "and Elizabeth said you weren't landing your jumps. Why?"
Alex rolled her eyes at her mother always needing to know everything about her skating. "I don't know. I guess I'm not feeling well today?"
"Maybe you shouldn't have been partying on your birthday." Alex switched her boots to sneakers. "Maybe you should move back in with us, so we know you can stick to your schedule."
"I don't need you to remind me about my schedule." Alex threw her boots into her locker. Her anxiety always would heightened with her mother around.
"Are you sure?"
Alex slammed her locker close, "I went out on my birthday, like any other twenty one year old." She walked towards the exit.
Jane followed Alex towards the wardrobe area of the rink, "You're not like any other twenty one year old." Alex started to scratch her thumb the more Jane talked to her. "You are nationally and world ranked. You can't hang out with your boyfriend on the ice like you were just doing."
"Trevor is not my boyfriend, we've been over this." Alex scratched the bottom of her neck trying to shed the feeling her mother is giving her. She looked at her mother's eyes.
"Yeah, it's your roommate's…"
"No… no… This… this has nothing to do with Casey…" She deepened her nail indent with each stroke. "Just forget it. Let's just talk to the designer. Please!" Alex began to speed walk to her targeted location.
Alex arrived at the softball field. She saw all girls on the field with their bats and gloves. She didn't understand the game at all. She saw Olivia sitting on the bleachers by herself. She bit her bottom lip as she gravitated to the short haired brunette. She was wearing a baggy blue tank top with jean shorts.
"I figured you would be getting ready for work." Alex slowly walked up towards her.
Olivia had a camera in her hands and pointed the lens to the blonde with the perfect ponytail. She snapped a natural shot of Alex not posing for a poster. "I'm off of work today. And the team asked for me to take some shots of their practice." She slid over to make room for Alex to sit next to her.
"So you are a bartender and a photographer. It's kind of poetic." She calmly stated as she sat down.
"Well people tell us their problems with drinks, and you can see the real person when they don't think you are watching." Olivia smirked as she snapped more shots at the team. Alex actually found it to be poetic on Olivia's reasoning. She could melt being around her. "What happened on your neck?" She asked about the fresh red mark. Olivia dropped the camera to see Alex blush.
She softly covered up her neck, being ashamed of a self inflicted wound. "Oh it was… umm"
Olivia observed Alex nervous about the mark, "One of those mysterious ice skating wounds?" Olivia smirked to save Alex from explaining.
Alex's heart skipped watching Olivia isn't as bad as Casey warned, "As a matter of fact it is." Alex straightened up her posture.
"So," Olivia cleared her throat, "why do it if it causes those wounds?"
Alex's blue eyes met Olivia's brown eyes, "Because it's like breathing. I don't know what I would do, if I couldn't be on the ice every day. And I'm good so it's worth it." Olivia chuckled at her statement. "What's that for you know I'm a champion."
Olivia watched how defensive Alex was getting, "Oh I know, but that doesn't mean you are good." She leaned back on the bleachers to watch the reaction.
"Excuse me?!" Once again Olivia told Alex something that no one has told her. "What would you know about being good? You make drinks for a living." She snapped out.
Olivia raised her brow at the rude comment coming from the blonde. "I know being able to land a couple triple axels and some quads. It makes you skilled, not good. Your artistry is boring and stale."
"Meaning?" She was trying to stay calm.
"You did Carmen last year, what is that amateur hour?" Olivia asked a serious question.
Alex's ear perked up knowing that she knew her program. "Consider last year was my third win at nationals. I think I know what I'm doing." Alex snapped at Olivia.
Olivia looked at Alex's neck and she didn't want to press any more of her buttons, "Okay."
Alex was confused by Olivia not wanting to finish the argument. "Okay?" Olivia nodded her head at Alex. "Fine." Alex wasn't happy that someone said she had a poor music choice. Someone telling her she wasn't a good skater. She needs to go through her music for the season coming up.
There was a moment of silence for Alex to calm her nerves. "Do you… Do you know what is happening?"
"Oh I don't follow sportsball. So I don't know, just here for support." Olivia looked at the blonde trying to watch the women practice the sport.
Alex smirked thinking the same thing. She looked at Olivia and was staring at her. "So you don't watch sportsball, but you know what I skated to last year?"
"Are you shocked?" Olivia questioned.
Alex leaned back next to her, "No just impressed."
I hope you enjoyed
