Angst - The most dark and depressing fanfiction, the main characters are suffering from unrequited love, a long absent, or just plain depressing events.
ATTHS - Acronym for "And then they have sex." This can be used when the fic writers doesn't want to write an erotic sex scene.
AU - An acromyn for "Alternate Universe", meaning a different reality from the established canon (or Real Life).
Audience Surrogate - It's a character that says and does things that the audience would say, do and even outright relates to. This character even asks the important stuff that the reader would say, if he was in the story.
BroTP - It refers to two characters that are just pals.
Canon - The main official established story (example the TF2 comics and trailers).
Cargo Ship - A character that's in a romance and/or friendship relationship with an object.
Chibi - (aka Super-Deformed) - It's an anime/manga style to draw a character in a cutesy, kiddie, plumpy, and tiny way.
Crack Fic - A fanfiction/ fanart that doesn't follow the canon story.
Crack Ship - A relationship that doesn't follow the main canon story relationship.
Crossover - When a fanfic writer combines two (or more) franchise realities together (i.e. TF2 x Overwatch).
Crossover Ship - A romance pairing of two separate characters from different franchises (i.e. Medic x Moira).
Die For Our Ship - This is when the fanfic writer/fan artist wants a specific character to die, because said character is in the way of the author/artist's preferred ship.
Doujinshi - Usually a self-made, self-published manga.
Everyone Is Gay - This is when the fanfic writer turns all the characters Gay and/or Lesbian.
Fan Art - Art that's drawn by fans.
Fandom - The fan community.
Fanfiction - Written works by fans.
Fan Preferred Couple - A relationship(s) that the large community of fans prefer above all others.
Femslash - The cousin of "Slash Fic", except it's about Lesbian romance. But usually referring to the sexually explicit lesbian fanfictions.
Fetish Fuel - When a story has elements to arouse a reader's erotic fantasies and sensibilities.
Fix Fic - These fics are written by fans that are not satisfied with the canon's outcomes for whatever reasons.
Fluff - Fics without the angst, truama and usually G/PG rated.
Foe Yay - It's similar to Ho Yay, it's when a fan(s) see every moment and what have you with rivals or outright enemies as proof that they love each other.
Fujoshi - A female counterpart of the "weeboo" stereotype, as well as self-mocking term that translates to "rotten girl". She's usually responsible for the fanfiction and fanart insanity, especially of the yaoi/yuri varity.
Fujosh** - The more derogatory term for "fujoshi".
Gen Fic - It's just a fic that has little to no romance in it.
Going Down With The Ship - It's when the fanfic writer/ fan artist is going to support her pairing and goes against the grain, really goes against the grain, still supporting her pairing despite canon disproving it in the ending or a huge majority of the fan community doesn't support and/or don't care about it.
Guy-On-Guy Is Hot - When fanfic writers/ fan artists get arouse by male homosexuality.
Girl-On-Girl Is Hot - When fanfic writers/ fan artists get arouse by female homosexuality.
Headcanon - When a fanfic writer/fan artist makes theories about the main canon works, these theories usually found in their fan works.
Het Is Ew - Some Yuri/Yaoi shippers see heterosexual pairings with disdain, despite the fact that the LGBTQ can be friends with people of the opposite genders, especially in the canon story and the opposite gender is not a "threat" to the OTP. Often assuming that this will turn the Gay or Lesbian character straight or back to being straight. This sometimes happens in fandoms were the franchaise has a huge disportionate gender ratio (like Team Fortress 2 has a huge male character population compare to the females).
Het - Pretaining to fics that have hetrosexual relationships.
High School AU - This is an alternate universe fanfiction that has the TF2 characters as teens going to high school.
Ho Yay - Fans thinking that certain moments found in stories, like plot, dialogue, and such, as pure Gay shipping fodder.
Hurt/Comfort Fic - These are fanfics were one character cares for one that has been hurt physically or emotionally.
Incest - A relationship between a family members.
Launcher Of A Thousand Ships - It's when Character A is found in a myriad of different ships in existence.
Lemon - A sexually explicit fanfiction, mainly content that one may find in an NC-17 or X film.
Lime - The fanfiction has no sexually explicit stuff depicted, but it implies. This form of content is PG-13 or R rated content.
Mary Sue - Usually an original female character that's portrayed as insanely unrealistic, like lacking flaws, weakness, being utterly perfect (i.e. very beautiful, an insanely powerful fighter, can speak millions of languages, doesn't get injuries when fighting/after fighting, etc.), and the whole universe revolves around her (Both literally and figurative).
Marty Stu - The male equivalent of a Mary Sue. (also known as "Gary Stu" or "Larry Stu").
MPreg - When a man gives birth to a child, but this is mainly found in gay fanfiction were usually the submissive partner gives birth.
Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls - Based on the stereotype that's true with a grain of salt way were most of the fanfiction/fan art goodness (or life scarring horribleness) came from women, mainly prebuscent girls and young adults. (There's outliners hiding, like pre-teen boys, men, and LGBTQs being guilty of adding to this). Usually when it comes to WHO wrote the gay/lesbian fanfiction.
Multi-shipper - A person who supports several upon several ships.
OC - Short for "Original Character", these are character(s) that the writer makes for her story. One of the examples are the "Tenth Class."
OOC - Short for "Out of character", mainly to describe how a character's actions in a fic are not how the canon character usually acts like.
Original Flavor - Fan works that are written so good and with such care, that one can mistaken it for the real established lore/canon.
OTP - "One True Pairing", a person's main relationship(s).
OT3 - Means "One True Threesome", but it has three characters instead of two.
Pairing - Another name for "relationship(s)".
PWP - An acronym for "Porn Without The Plot" and usually its exactly what it means. Also, an acronym for "Person With Person".
Rare Pair - Aka Rare Ship, mainly a ship(s) that's not written of drawn much.
Real Person Fic (Aka Celebrity Fic)- Fanfiction about real people, like the Team Fortress 2 YouTubers.
Real Person Slash - Fanfiction about real people in a homosexual relationship. (i.e. insert your favorite Team Fortress 2 Youtuber of here #1 x insert your favorite Team Fortress 2 Youtuber, who has the same gender as #1, here). Note: I will advises that one doesn't try to find these, since looking up fanfiction and fanart about wholesome TF2Tubers without "Safe Search" on or taking precautionary measures is similar to searching up My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fan stuff.
Self-Insert - When an author makes a character that's like him/her.
Seme - The strong manly Gay and/or Lesbian of the relationship, mainly at the top of the relationship and the protector of the Uke.
Shipper On Deck - A character/original character that cheers for the author's preferred relation(ship).
Shipping - Mainly when a fanfic writer/fan artist is being a matchmaker towards fictional characters.
Ship War - When two (or more) relationship supporter groups go to on a console war-ish battle of which is the the better romance couple.
Ship - A shorten form of "relationship".
Shipping Goggles - This term is used when a fanfiction writer sees every interaction, no matter how mundane, unromantic, and tiny, as some form of proof of his/her ship.
Slash Fic - A gay shipping fanction, usually referring to the sexually explicit homoerotic ones.
Smut - Erotic fanfiction.
Sturgeon's Law - It's the surmise that 10% of fanfiction/fanart is decent and/or awesome, unlike the 90% rest.
Rule 63/Genderbend - It's changing the gender of an actual existing character, like drawing/writing a male character as a female. This can overlaps with the perverted Rule 34. Aka Gender Flip, Genderbending.
Rule 85 - If it exists, there's G4 My Little Pony/My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic versions, like the ponified mercs.
Threesome - A three person love triangle or a three person platonic ship.
Uke - A submissive Gay/Lesbian partner to the Seme, usually at the bottom of the relationship.
Yaoi - A gay/homosexual ship.
Yaoi Fangirl - This is the cousin of the Fujoshi, but they favor to see homosexual relationships in non-Japanese works.
Y/N - The fanfic writer has made the reader as a character in these fics. Plus, "Y/N" is abbreviation for "Your Name."
A/N: I made this chapter for guys that are straight up new in a "Hi, I am new to reading and/or writing fanfiction, so I don't know much about the terms" way or those that are unfamiliar with the terms.
