I re-wrote the chapter, because I didn't like how it was done. Here it is!

Jaysky slowly trudged through the forest, almost tripping on all of the branches. He tried to keep up with Crowflight, but it wasn't easy. Jaysky had four left paws, and the thick, shadowy forest was not a help. He could rarely see his own paws during night hunting, and his fur was a light gray, easily sticking out in the shadows. He slowly trotted after his friend, his eyes tired from going on dawn patrol, and now this. Owlstar was working him to the grave, and he could barely keep his eyes open.

"Dude, you really need to stop going on so many patrols." Crowflight warned him, but Jaysky just kept trudging on.

"I wouldn't be going on these patrols if I hadn't upset Owlstar with how I reacted to Lakemist." Jaysky grumbled.

"Oooh, yeah. But seriously, she's the most beautiful she-cat in the Clans. Being betrothed to her isn't the worst thing." Crowflight said with a giant beam.

"Yeah, but she's also a total jerk and is so conceited that she rivals even the most showy birds." Jaysky sighed.

"Well . . . I can't argue with that. I heard that Troutstar told his warriors to constantly splash still places of water because if she saw her reflection, she'd become so enamoured that she'd never leave." Crowflight laughed.

"Can't say that isn't true!" Jaysky laughed.

"You know, you could just . . . leave. Sparrowpaw did it, I'm sure you could do it as well. Get out of the set marriage, live your own life . . ." Crowflight started before drifting off and bursting into giggles, "Who would want to do that? Sparrowpaw sure was an idiot for leaving."

"Uh, yeah. Yeah." Jaysky murmured. He sat down on the leaf-covered ground of leaf-fall. His older sister had been a lot of things. Bold, fiery, unable to be silenced. She loved her Clan, but the one thing she didn't like was the set marriages. She had been set to marry Creekpaw, now Creekbend and Troutstar's oldest heir. And although they were good friends, Sparrowpaw didn't love Creekpaw in that sense. She loved him like he was a twin sibling, and nothing more. And the feeling seemed mutual. But as the time neared for their joining, she seemed to get more and more stressed out. And then she ran off in the dead of night, and nobody's heard from her since.

And that fate of a set marriage was what Jaysky was facing right now.

And he could never have the courage that Sparrowpaw had.

Crowflight stared at him, and then said, "I'll just leave you alone for a bit. I'll see you in camp."

Jaysky only nodded his head. He thought about how he met his fiance, and how much she hated her.

Flashback

It was Jaypaw's first Gathering, and he was bursting with excitement. He hadn't been able to go to the previous Gatherings due to the bought of greencough he had, but he was better now. He looked around for a familiar face, and spotted Creekbend over near the base of the large gathering stone with two grayish tabby apprentices.

"Hello, Jaypaw! These are my siblings, Lakepaw and Streampaw." Creekbend purred as he gestured to the two cats accordingly.

"Hi! I'm Jaypaw!" the tom purred before stumbling down onto the ground. Lakepaw started snickering cruelly, while Streampaw stared at him with contempt.

"Why don't you speak with the other apprentices?" Creekbend offer and almost full on shoved his younger siblings away. Jaypaw, Lakepaw, and Streampaw awkwardly walked towards the large group of apprentices. When they saw them coming, all of the BrookClan immediately bowed to Lakepaw and Streampaw, who barely even acknowledged their presence. While when Jaypaw stepped into his group of ForestClan apprentices, he was greeted as if he was one of them. Light shoves and teasing. The BrookClanners look confused and horrified, especially Lakepaw and Streampaw.

"Why do you act like you're one of them?" Lakepaw snarled when Jaypaw sat next to her.

"Because I am. I'm an apprentice." Jaypaw responded, brown creased with confusion.

"No, you're not. You are an heir. There is a grave difference." she snarled as Jaypaw's friend, Maplepaw told stories. BrookClan apprentices kept shooting worried glances at Jaypaw, almost as if they expected to get mad at Maplepaw when she told them about the time when he almost completely trashed the apprentices' den early on in his apprenticeship after he tripped over her. But when Maplepaw and the ForestClan apprentices laughed, so did he, and soon all the BrookClan apprentices joined in. Except for Lakepaw and Streampaw.

"I see no difference. I'm learning and growing with them, not acting above them." Jaypaw responded after he stopped laughing.

"Then you are a fool, and definitely should never be leader. I, on the other paw, understand my position fully, and you should take some time to educate yourself on yours." Lakepaw snarled.

Flashback End

Jaysky woke up with a jump. He had just been dreaming, and must have fallen asleep, as it was already sundown. He stood up and then heard the faint whistle of a robin. An easy catch.

Jaysky crouched down and prepared to find the bird. After scenting it, he spotted the bird in a nearby clearing. He went deeper into his crouch with each step. As crazy as it seemed, he was very good at hunting. Despite his clumsiness, he was one of the largest donors to the fresh-kill pile. Once he was ready to spring, and leapt up with his claws out. And felt his head collide with another cat and the bird fly away.
