(Flashback - 5 years earlier)
An 11-year-old Gabriella was called into the living room by her mother, Vivien Tompson. The girl sat down on the lounge next to the woman who began to speak. "Gabi, Papa's coming home soon and we have a special surprise for you that he brought back while he was on his business trip."
"What is it Mama?"
"You'll have to wait and see, Papa messaged me before saying he was on his way home from the airport so he should be here at any moment."
"Will I like it?"
"We'll have to see Gabriella."
The girl waited eagerly to find out what her father was bringing home and jumped up when she heard the front door open. She ran to see David walking in with a suitcase and a scared little girl in his arms. She was only a toddler with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. "Papa, who's that?"
"Gabi, this is your sister Olivia. Your mother and I adopted her while I was on my business trip and she's gonna be living with us now." He placed the little girl on the ground, only for her to look at them fearfully.
Gabriella walked slowly to her, holding out her hand. "Do you want to come play with me?" The little girl nodded timidly and held Gabriella's hand as they walked into the living room and the 11-year-old gave her some of her old toys - by this point, both parents had left the room. "Hi Olivia, my name's Gabriella and I'm your big sister... how old are you?" The toddler held up two fingers and Gabriella moved so she could hug the little girl. "You don't have to be scared."
A moment later, David and Vivien started arguing. Gabriella immediately stood up and lifted Olivia into her arms, running upstairs and closing her door. She walked over to her bed and kept the little girl on her lap hugging her. "It's ok, don't be scared. I'm sorry that Mama and Papa's fighting makes you sad." She noticed Olivia cuddling closer to her. "Would you like to take a nap?"
"Yes please."
Gabriella laid them down and kept Olivia in her arms as she began whispering the lyrics to a song from her favourite movie: The Wizard of Oz. "Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high. There's a land that I've heard of, once in a lullaby. Somewhere over the rainbow, skies are blue and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true. Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me. Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops. That's where you'll find me." By the end, Olivia was asleep and Gabriella kissed the top of her head. "I know you're scared but tomorrow will be better, I promise. I love you Olivia, sweet dreams."
From that day forth, Olivia trusted Gabriella more than anyone and always seeked comfort in her arms. Even as their parents began to pay less and less attention to them, they were there for each other. Bria and Livie became their special nicknames for each other - only they were allowed to call their sister by the nickname. They were all each other had.
