Disclaimer : I DO NOT own The Shadowhunter chronicles. It rightfully belongs to Cassandra Clare.

Madelyn saw Clary and Jace coming towards her, Rafeal and Will. Clary came up to her and said, "We're sorry about your parents." She genuinely seemed sorry. Madelyn nodded mutely. "Rafeal, you're 21 right? That means you can run the Institute." Jace said casually, but patted Madelyn on her shoulder, comforting her. "I don't want to… I wanted to spend time with my parents… Besides, running a Institute is difficult." Rafeal replied. "Anyway, Rafeal hasn't got proper training to be a head of an Institute either." Will pitched in, looking at his father. "Where will we go, then?" Madelyn asked Will. "To the New York Institute." Clary said. "I can talk to the Consul. We know Aline well anyway." "What do you say, Madelyn?" Jace asked. "I don't mind. But can I get my things first?" Madelyn asked. "Sure. Will, can you go help her?" Clary said. Will shrugged and followed Madelyn up the stairs to the Institute.
"It's much smaller here." Will said, scanning the Institute as they walked up a flight of stairs to the first floor. "New York's a hub for Downworlders and Shadowhunters, which is why the Institute is so big there." Madelyn replied, making her way to her room. "Where's the training room?" Will asked, roaming around, and randomly popping his head into all the rooms. "Upstairs." she replied, and grabbing the things she needed into a bag. Will walked into her room while playing with a knife on his belt. "The Vampires… Is that a band?" Will asked while looking at a poster with 4 guys, innocently, despite having a smirk plastered across his face. "My favourite band." She replied, grabbing the poster off the wall, and throwing it into her bag, hastily. "Vampires have no sense of creativity…. probably because they're dead." he said. "Such a straightforward name." he added, snickering. "Why are you so unnerving?" Madelyn almost shouted, his sarcasm and sharp comments frustrating her. "It's part of my character. I am known for being just like the Will Herondale…" he started. "Consider me never asking." she said, raising her hands and rolling her eyes. "People love listening to me talk." he said, the permanent smirk still on his face. Madelyn felt like slapping it off. "Not me. Why are you even here? You're not helping anyway." she said, in the most calm voice she could muster. He shrugged and picked up a thick-bound book on her nightstand, turning it over. "Handbook to Physics? Seriously? You study mudane science?" he asked, laughing like a fool. She had to admit that his laugh was quite pleasant, filling her with adrenaline. "Like I said, you are not helping!" she said, but couldn't help smiling. "Still think I am unnerving? We could have a shot at being friends." he said, casually, like everyone was drooling on his doorstep to be his friend. "I'll consider it." she said, zipping her bag. "Let's go." she said, swinging the bag over her shoulder.

Will watched her without even knowing, as she walked down the stairs. He noticed the pitch-black, straight hair she had, the shape of her lips, her fair skin, her sea-green eyes, her slim body. She was beautiful. "Did you even hear what I asked?" she asked, her green eyes boring into him. He shuddered ever-so-slightly, wiping his mind clean of his thoughts. He assumed his original sarcastic form, bringing the smirk back to his face, and replied, "I really don't have an answer to your question." She shook her head, causing her cascading hair to come on her face. He fought the urge to push her hair away from her face. "You didn't hear me, did you? I asked, whether you have any siblings… unless you don't know the meaning of siblings." she said, smiling at her comment. Will raised his eyebrows. "You are underestimating me, Wayland. And no, I don't have any siblings. But I have a parabatia. Her name's May Penhallow." "Is she the Consul's daughter?" she asked, clearly struggling with the bag. "Here, let me take that." he said, gently taking the bag from her. His fingers brushed against her warm skin. He shivered but she didn't notice. "Thanks." she said, tying her weapon belt to her waist. "To answer your question, she is the Consul's daughter. You guys will get along. I think she may have a particular interest in Rafeal and will be overjoyed to talk to his parabatia." he said, laughing. She looked shocked, but then started laughing. "Oh there you are. We have to leave now." Clary said, looking at them with stern eyes. "Madelyn, want to step through the portal first?" Jace asked, taking the bag from Will. "Okay." she said, and without any hesitation stepped through.
