This was supposed to be a one-shot, but a bunch of people asked for a part 2, and as I started writing, it just kept going so I think this is going to be a 3-5 chapter story instead. Hope you enjoy!
Two days later and they were back at Grey Sloan for repeat x-rays and hopefully casting. Maya was still in quite a bit of pain and struggling to sleep which was making her extremely grumpy and irritable. Carina was trying her best to help her girlfriend, but it was getting hard because Maya was snapping at her for everything.
That morning, everything had come to a head after Maya yelled at Carina for treating her like a baby when she wiped some yogurt off her face. Carina had thrown down the spoon, storming into their bedroom and slamming the door.
Maya thought about following her, but she knew she couldn't figure out how to open the door for starters and she also knew she was being a major pain in the ass. She didn't want to be. She was frustrated as hell that she was, but she was so tired and in so much pain and frustrated that she couldn't do anything for herself. She just started sobbing as she sat at the table, trying to put her head down on the table only to have pain shoot through her arm, making her cry more.
Carina came out when she heard Maya's sobs, wrapping har arms around her girlfriend, guiding her to the couch.
"I'm sorry," Maya said, tears still running down her cheeks, "I know I'm being a dick. I don't want to be, I just…I am so mad and I'm taking it out on you and it's not fair and I'm sorry."
"I know, Bambina," Carina shushed, rubbing her back, "I know. It's ok. I just got frustrated. I am sorry I stormed out."
"I have literally been so mean to you the past few days," Maya said, not looking at Carina, "And this is my fault. I'm the one who didn't watch my step and fell and broke my arms and didn't tell you and you have been taking such good care of me."
"This is not your fault Bambina," Carina said, shaking her head, "It was an accident. And I know you are hurting. We are both just overtired right now."
"I'm going to sleep in the guest room tonight," Maya said, realizing she had no way to wipe her eyes which made her want to cry more, "You need to rest and I am keeping you up."
"No," Carina said, shaking her head, "But maybe I will see if Andy or Vic wants to stop by tomorrow to help you so I can get a nap."
"They could come tonight after my appointment," Maya said, grateful Carina had grabbed a tissue and wiped the tears off her cheeks.
"We will see how you are feeling," Carina said, "There is going to be manipulations on your arms, and I have a feeling you are not going to find them pleasant."
"Yay," Maya said sarcastically.
"It will get better," Carina said, moving so Maya was in her lap and able to lean back a little, "The casts will probably help you feel a little more stable, and the pain should start to go away soon."
Maya nodded, just trying to relax and get her body to calm down. That had been five hours ago, and now they were sitting in a room at Grey Sloan waiting.
"What color casts are you going to get?" Carina asked, stroking Maya's hair as the blonde leaned on her, trying not to get too anxious about the appointment.
"Navy blue or black," Maya said, "Probably navy blue though."
"To match your uniform?" Carina asked as Maya shifted again.
"Yeah," Maya nodded, "And because neon green or pink is obnoxious."
"You could get red to match your fire engine," Carina teased, Maya shaking her head, "Or light blue to match your beautiful eyes."
"I think navy will be just fine," Maya said, "They are going to be bulky and prominent enough. I don't need people being able to spot my arms from space."
"I could spot your arms from anywhere," Carina smiled as Maya looked at her, giving her a kiss, "They are very nice arms."
Maya was about to give her another kiss when there was a knock at the door.
"Maya Bishop?" a nurse said, "I am going to get the splints off, and then Dr. Lincoln wants another round of x-rays before we get you into fiberglass."
Maya nodded, wincing as the nurse started removing all the padding from her arms.
"It's ok Bambina," Carina said, rubbing her back, seeing Maya tense.
"Let me know if it hurts too much or you need me to stop," the nurse said, looking at the blonde.
"You're good," Maya said through gritted teeth.
It took ten minutes, but Maya's arms were out of the splints.
"You are much less swollen," Carina observed, seeing Maya's arms, "That's good."
Maya nodded, still trying to calm the pain that was running through her body.
"Are you ready to go get some x-rays?" the nurse asked after she got all the pieces of the splints thrown out.
"Yeah," Maya said, Carina helping her up.
The nurse guided her down the hall, Carina following close behind. Maya was handed off from the nurse to the x-ray tech who got right to work getting pictures of Maya's arms. Much as Carina had predicted, the manipulations of Maya's arms that were needed to get good x-rays were painful, resulting in Maya snapping at the tech once only to then breakdown in tears when she realized she had.
"It's ok," the tech assured as Carina went to Maya, carefully wrapping her in a hug.
"It has been a rough few days," Carina said, the tech giving them some space.
"I am being a bad person," Maya cried, "I just snapped at someone for literally doing their job."
"It is ok," Carina reassured her, wishing she could hold Maya tighter, but not wanting to hurt her, "I am sure she has had worse. And you did not mean it. She knows that. You are in pain. Just apologize."
Maya nodded, just staying in Carina's arms for another minute before the brunette wiped away her tears.
"Va bene?" Carina asked gently.
Maya nodded, getting ready to finish the x-rays. Carina stepped away, the x-ray tech coming back.
"Sorry," Maya said, wincing as the tech got her arm in the right position.
"I have had people literally throw their lead aprons at my head," the nurse shrugged, "Most people yell at me at least once. I not exactly making you comfortable. Is this ok?"
Maya nodded, biting her lip as she felt pain surge through her arm.
"Just hold it for a minute," the nurse said, quickly getting the x-ray.
It took another five minutes, but eventually, they were done and Maya was free to go back to her room to wait.
"Are you still doing ok?" Carina asked, helping Maya sit down.
"It hurts," Maya said, leaning on Carina.
"I know," Carina said, stroking her hair, "We are almost done."
About ten minutes later, Link came in.
"So, your x-rays still look like they did the other day," Link said, "No shifting in the bones which is good. Can I see your arms?"
Maya nodded, slowly moving her arms with Link's help.
"Good," he said, making sure her fingers were still moving well and a good color, "Ok. We are going to get you in some fiberglass casts today. That should make everything feel a little more secure. I want to see you back in six weeks for repeat x-rays and we will talk about what we will do then. I'm thinking the humorous break might take a little longer than that to heal completely, but we will have to see. Any questions?"
"How am I supposed to shower?" Maya asked, knowing she didn't smell great already from three days without a shower, not able to think about what it would be like to go any longer.
"I will show you how to wrap the casts," Link said, "And Carina will have to help you, obviously. But as long as they stay dry, you will be fine."
"Thanks," Maya nodded, "I think that's it, at least for now."
"Alright," Link nodded, "I am going to go grab what I need and get these casts on. Have you thought about what color?"
"Navy blue, please," Maya said.
"No hot pink or cameo?" Link said, chuckling a little.
"No," Maya said, shaking her head with a little smile.
"Alright," he said, "Sit tight. I'll be back in a few."
"This is good, Bambina," Carina said, rubbing Maya's back, "The swelling is down and once this is done, we don't have to come back for a month and a half."
Maya nodded, just leaning into Carina's gentle touches. The brunette was a little worried at how emotional Maya had been all day, but she knew that the pain was really getting to her so she decided not to question it for now.
Link came back in a few minutes later, Carina helping him hold Maya's arms as he wrapped them.
"And there we go," he said, he said as he got the last of the wrap on Maya's left arm, "How do they feel?"
"Heavy," Maya said, lifting the right one a little.
"We can get you slings," Link offered, knowing it would help take the weight off.
"Maybe one," Maya said, "For the left one? I think one for my right would hurt my left."
"I could adjust it so it won't," Link said, "Let me go grab two and the stuff I need to show you how to shower. Sit tight."
"Now I am going to have to be careful not to hit you with these," Maya said, gesturing to her arms, "I feel like I have two bricks attached to my arms."
"Hopefully the slings will take some of the weight off," Carina said, adjusting so that she had her arms supporting Maya's.
Link came back, showing Carina how to wrap the casts for the shower before helping Maya into the slings before telling the blonde she was good to go.
"Text me if you have any questions," Link said, "And keep an eye on your fingers. If they start turning blue or tingling, come back."
"Thanks Link," Maya said as they left.
They got in the car, Carina having to help Maya with the buckle, before leaving.
"Do you need anything on our way home?" Carina asked, looking at the time, seeing it was already nearing 5 pm, "Do you want me to get something for dinner?"
"Whatever you want," Maya mumbled, eyes closed.
"Are you alright, Bambina?" Carina asked, concerned.
"I'm tired," Maya said, "And they still hurt and I just feel way too emotional."
"Why don't I go get some soup from Nonna's, and we can go home, you can eat some, maybe get a shower, and then you can try to sleep," Carina offered, not having the energy to cook, but knowing both of them needed food.
Maya nodded. Carina ran into the deli, grabbing dinner for them while Maya stayed in the car, before they headed home.
Maya sat down at the table while Carina got their dinner ready. She had ordered Maya a creamy, smooth tomato basil soup that she knew the blonde loved.
As Carina got ready to put it in a bowl, she got an idea, putting the soup in a glass they usually used for water, putting a larger straw in it. She carried it to the table, setting it in front of Maya.
"What?" Maya said, looking at it.
"This way, you can feed yourself," Carina said, "I mean, I will feed you if you want, but I thought…"
"Thank you," Maya said, looking at Carina with tears in her eyes, the ability to do something for herself finally feeling so good.
"I just wish I had thought of it earlier," Carina said, grabbing her own dinner, "I know not being able to do anything yourself is frustrating to you."
Maya nodded as Carina wiped the tears off her face. They ate their dinner, Maya deciding she was going to be eating a lot of soups and smoothies over the next month and a half because the straw worked really well.
They then managed to sort out the shower, Maya sighing as Carina washed her body that felt gross after not getting a shower for days. They then got into bed despite it only being 7 pm because they were both exhausted. Carina grabbed her laptop before crawling behind Maya, helping her get adjusted comfortably before turning on a movie.
Maya ended up taking her heavy pain meds around 9, her arms hurting a lot after the day at the doctor, and both of them passed out.
Maya was awake again at 2 am, arms aching. She moved to get up and go to the couch, only to wake Carina the process.
"What's wrong Bambina?" Carina asked, sitting up.
"Go back to sleep," Maya said, "I'm going out to the couch."
"Stay here," Carina said, shaking her head, "We can listen to music or something until you are ready to sleep."
Maya nodded, getting comfortable back in bed as Carina grabbed her phone. Carina put on some quiet music before relaxing back with Maya.
The Italian fell asleep an hour later, Maya still struggling with some pain. She knew it was almost time to take more pain meds both because of the time and because the pain was getting worse. She really hated taking the pain meds she was currently on, but the Advil and Tylenol weren't cutting it at night yet.
She didn't want to wake Carina again, but there was actually no way for her to open the pill bottle. She laid there for a while, trying to think about anything but the pain radiating up and down both her arms. However, as she shifted for what felt like the millionth time, Carina woke up a little.
"You alright Bambina?" the sleepy Italian asked, feeling Maya move again.
"Can I have more pain meds?" Maya asked quietly.
"Oh Bambina," Carina said, sitting up, "Why didn't you wake me? You were due for more an hour ago."
"You need sleep," Maya said as Carina put the pill in her mouth along with some water.
"So do you, Bambina," Carina said, rubbing her back, "And that cannot happen if you are in this much pain."
Maya nodded a little, wincing as pain ran through her again.
"Just relax," Carina said, stroking Maya's hair, "I'm sorry you are hurting."
It took about twenty minutes for the meds to kick in, but Maya eventually fell asleep, Carina following quickly after.
When Carina woke up the next morning, Maya was miraculously still sleeping. Carina carefully grabbed her phone, seeing she had a message from Vic asking how Maya was doing and if they needed anything.
Carina thought about asking Vic to come over and help Maya out so she could nap, but then she realized she had to work starting at 9 am. It was currently 7:30 meaning Carina needed to get up and going now.
She carefully moved, not wanting to wake Maya because the blonde needed sleep. Somehow, she got up successfully, slipping out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. She started hot water for her pour over coffee before calling Vic.
Normally, she would never call anyone this early because in Carina's opinion, this was too early to be awake unless there was a serious reason, but the last text Vic had sent had been about five minutes ago.
"Carina?" Vic said, answering, "Is everything ok?"
"Si," Carina said, grabbing out a cup for her coffee, "I have to work today, though, and I completely forgot…"
"Want me to come hang with captain broken arms today?" Vic asked.
"If you are not busy and do not call her that to her face," Carina sighed, "If you are, it is fine. I can call…"
"I had no plans today," Vic said, "I think Trav mentioned wanting to teach me how to make bread, but that can wait, or I will have him come over too and we can make bread to your house."
"He is welcome too," Carina said, getting her coffee made, "Maya just needs someone here because she literally can't do anything with her arms."
"I'll be there," Vic said, "And I'll probably drag Travis too because Maya is much easier to deal with when she grumpy with him. What time do you have to work."
"9," Carina said, "But she will probably be ok by herself for an hour or two."
"I'll be there by 8:30," Vic said, "I've been up since 6 to beat the heat for my morning run."
"You and Maya and your runs," Carina said, shaking her head as she took a sip of her coffee.
"Oh, no," Vic said, shaking her head, "I am nothing like her. I run 3 miles max three times a week, less if we get extra calls. The way Maya runs is crazy."
Carina chuckled a little, knowing Vic was right, but also knowing that unbeknownst to Vic, running was the best way Maya had to deal with her sometimes crippling anxiety and depression that years of psychological and emotional abuse at the hands of her father had left the blonde with.
"I need to get ready for work," Carina said, "I will see you soon?"
"Yeah," Vic said, "I'll grab everyone breakfast on the way. Is there anything in particular Maya would like?"
"A smoothie or something," Carina said, "She can drink it through a straw by herself."
"Sounds good," Vic nodded, "See you soon."
"Thank you so much, Vic," Carina said, hanging up.
She snuck back into the bedroom, Maya stirring in bed.
"Car?" Maya said, eyes opening as Carina was pulling on some black slacks.
"Hi Bambina," the doctor said, going over to the bed, "How are you this morning? You actually got a little sleep."
"I don't know," Maya said, Carina helping her sit up, "Where are you going?"
"I have work," Carina said, "Which I completely forgot about. Vic and Travis are going to come over and help you out today. Is that ok?"
Maya nodded, swinging her legs around to get up.
"Carina," Maya groaned, "I think I know why I've been so emotional."
"You mean besides the lack of sleep and pain?" Carina said, confused.
"My period just started," Maya said, closing her eyes.
"Oh Bambina," Carina said, frowning.
"How am I even supposed to do this today?" Maya said, tears filling her eyes, "I can't put a tampon in, or a pad for that matter."
"I can help you," Carina reassured her, stopping getting ready to go sit by, "It is going to be ok."
"I hate this," Maya said, tears running down her cheeks, "I hate all of this. It is embarrassing and annoying and humiliating."
"I know," Carina said, holding Maya close, "I know, but it is going to be ok. Do you want me to call out of work today? I can."
"No," Maya said, shaking her head, "No, I will be fine."
Carina helped Maya how she needed her to, telling her she would bring lunch home on her lunch break and help her again then.
As Carina was finishing getting ready, the doorbell rang.
Maya, who was sitting on the couch, went to answer it only to find she couldn't unlock the lock. She kicked the door in frustration as Carina came out of the bedroom.
"I've got it," Carina said, putting a hand on her girlfriend's shoulder as she unlocked the door.
Maya just walked down the hall to the bedroom as Carina opened the door.
"Hey guys," Carina said, opening the door, "Come on it."
"Where's Maya?" Travis asked as they slipped off their shoes.
"She's in our room," Carina said, "It's been a little bit of a tough morning. I need to go check on her before I go."
Travis and Vic nodded as Carina turned, heading back into the bedroom.
"I can't even open a fucking door," Maya said as angry tears poured down her face, "I am completely useless."
"Bambina," Carina said, glancing at the clock, knowing she needed to leave in the next five minutes to be on time, "You are not useless. You are injured. It is only temporary. It will get better soon, but getting mad about it every time you cannot do something is just going to make everything more miserable. I know this is so hard, but your friends and I, we want to be here for you, to help you. I know you are used to being so independent, and you will be again, but right now, you have to lean on me, on your friends, to get through this."
Maya nodded, still crying as Carina held her, the brunette deciding that being a few minutes late was just what was going to happen today.
Once Maya had calmed down, Carina helped her clean up her face before helping her stand up.
"Vic and Travis are here," Carina said, "And they brought smoothies. I need to go to work, but call if you need me. I will be back at my lunch hour. If the pain is too bad, just take something for it, ok?"
Maya nodded, just letting Carina hold her for another few seconds before they both pulled away.
"Have a good day," Maya said, giving Carina a small kiss, "Love you."
"I love you too, Bambina," Carina said as they walked out of the bedroom, "Bye Vic and Travis."
"Bye Carina," Travis said as Vic handed Carina her smoothie on her way out the door.
"Thank you," Carina said, taking the drink as she left.
"Hey guys," Maya said, walking over to them.
"Hey," Vic said, smiling at her, "We brought breakfast. Your favorite protein smoothie from JuiceBox."
"Thanks," Maya said, smiling, "Can you put it on the table and put a straw in it please?"
"Of course," Travis said, grabbing a straw, doing what Maya asked.
"You don't have to watch me drink," Maya said as she leaned down to take a sip.
"Sorry," they both said, sitting down.
"Did you hear about the man we rescued the other day?" Vic asked, taking a sip of her own smoothie.
"No," Maya said, shaking her head, "What happened?"
"So there was this stupid high school kid," Travis said, launching into a story about a high schooler who thought they could jump a gap in an overpass that was under construction.
Luckily, the gap was small enough that the car got stuck in it, but not enough for the kid to get out. They ended up having to stabilize the car with a hysterical 17 year old boy in it. The kid was fine, luckily, but the whole thing took hours to sort out. Maya laughed a little, for the first time in days, as she listened to the story, shaking her head.
For the next few hours, the three of them watched TV, Travis and Vic filling Maya in on all the station gossip she had missed in the past few days.
Turns out, someone from B shift thought it was a brilliant idea to wash the towels with the new uniform shirts, effectively dying all the towels a weird greyish blue color.
Jack and Dean had been sent to do groceries for the week, spending most of the money on steak, claiming there was some big sale. However, they had forgotten to get any kind of fresh fruits or vegetables so A shift was stuck with canned because they had met their monthly budget.
"I leave for a few days and you all send Jack and Dean to the store together?" Maya said, shaking her head, "Have we not learned after years together that that is a bad plan."
"Jack decided it was a good plan when he was acting because Andy and Sullivan were still gone," Travis said, shrugging. "And this is why Bishop is captain and not him," Vic said, smiling at the blonde, catching a slight wince on Maya's face, "Hey, when are you due for pain meds?"
"Probably now," Maya said, looking at the clock, "Oh, yeah, Advil and Tylenol both now. They are in the kitchen I think. Or maybe the bedroom. I don't know. Carina's been giving them to me because I can't get them to my mouth."
"I'll find it," Vic said, getting up.
"You need a drink for that," Travis said, getting up, "What would you like?
" "Water," Maya said, "In my water bottle with the straw please."
They continued watching a movie, Maya dozing off every so often for a few minutes. Carina dropped off lunch around 1:30, happy to see Maya seemed to be in slightly better spirits than she had been that morning.
Once Carina was back to work, the three fire fighters were starting to get a little restless.
"How would you feel about us semi destroying your kitchen?" Travis said, looking at Maya.
"By doing what?" the blonde asked suspiciously.
"I have been dying to try out this new bread recipe I found online," Travis said, "It's a tomato basil bread."
"Sounds like something Carina would love," Maya said, "I'm not sure we have the ingredients though."
"I can run to the store down the street," Travis said, "I'll be back in like 20 minutes?"
"Whatever you want Trav," Maya said, laughing.
"Do you need anything else?" Travis asked, already up.
"I don't," Maya said as Vic shook her head.
Travis left the apartment, Maya looking at Vic.
"He has literally been talking about this bread for a week," Vic said, shaking her head, "Do you need me to get you anything?"
"Can you get me my heating pad?" Maya asked, her back having been getting progressively more achy over the past hour or so, "It's in the bottom drawer of my night stand."
"Yeah," Vic nodded, getting up. She grabbed the device, plugging it in and turning it on. "Where do you want it?"
"My back," Maya said, "Because as if my life wasn't shitty enough these days, I also got my period this morning."
"That sucks," Vic said, shaking her head, "If you don't want us to make a bunch of noise in your kitchen, I can tell Travis no."
"It's fine," Maya shrugged, "It's not like I'm going to sleep anyway, at least not well. And this way, at least the house will smell good."
Travis got back with all his supplies, going into the kitchen. "Are you two going to help?" he asked, pulling out the mixer.
"I guess," Vic said, going in with him.
"I literally can't," Maya said, rolling her eyes but getting up just the same, deciding to watch.
For the next three hours, Travis and Vic, but mostly Travis, worked on making the bread. Every so often, Travis would ask for something, Maya directing him around the kitchen. While the bread was rising, Maya went back to the couch, everything feeling achy and sore.
"Is it time for more meds?" Vic asked, noticing Maya seemed to be in pain again.
"Yeah, probably," Maya said, "I can't wait to be done with all this aching and pain."
"It'll happen soon," Travis said, "When I was like 15, I broke my wrist after I tried to walk in heels for the first time, and I remember it hurt for like 2 weeks. After that, it was just itchy as hell."
"It hasn't even been a week yet," Maya groaned, "I need it to be done now."
"How about we watch something," Vic said, not wanting Maya to get upset again.
Just then, Maya's phone started ringing.
"Damn it," Maya said, realizing that not only could she not actually hold her phone to her ear, but she couldn't even pick it up off the table.
"It's your mom?" Vic said, looking at the phone.
"Nope," Maya said, shaking her head as Vic was about to answer only to have the younger woman mouth "Sorry" as she held the phone up to Maya's ear.
"Mom," Maya said, glaring at Vic, "Hey. How are you?"
"I'm doing well sweetheart," Katherine Bishop said, "I was just wondering if you and Carina want to come over on Saturday for dinner with me and a few of your aunts and uncles."
"Mom, last time we had dinner with your sister, she spent ten minutes telling Carina and I that we didn't have to live in sin," Maya said, rolling her eyes, "I don't want to have dinner with them."
"Hannah was just trying to give you another perspective," Maya's mom said.
"Another perspective is trying to let me know what she thinks about a book we have both read," Maya said, feeling anger building, "Not that I am a bad person because of who I love. It was not a comfortable situation for Carina or me."
"Give them another chance Maya," Katherine said, "They are family."
"The answer is, and always will be, no," Maya said, "If you want to spend time with your homophobic family, that's fine, but Carina and I will not be attending."
"But Maya…" Katherine started before Maya got up, just walking out of the room, Vic hanging up as Travis followed Maya.
"Hey," he said as she paced around the room angrily, "Maya. Maybe you should…"
But before he could finish Maya hit her left arm on the dresser, the blonde yelling out in pain.
"Ok," Travis said, grabbing her and guiding her to the bed, "Ok, just breathe. It's going to be ok."
Vic came running in when Maya screamed, looking questioningly at Travis.
"She hit her arm on the dresser," Travis said as Maya's breathing started to calm, "It's fine? Right Maya?"
"Yeah," the blonde said, arm still aching more than normal, "Yeah, it's getting better."
"Ok," Vic said, getting up, knowing Travis wanted to talk to Maya about the conversation they had overheard her have with her mom, "I'm going to go clean up the kitchen."
"You good?" Travis asked as he looked at Maya.
"My arm is…betterish," Maya said, nodding, "It was stupid. I just…My mom knows Carina and I are together, that we are probably going to spend the rest of our lives together, and yet she insists on inviting us over when her homophobic, bigoted family is there. It's like she doesn't see it as a problem, the fact that they judge us all the time to our faces."
"I understand," Travis said sincerely, "My family is the same way."
Maya nodded as Travis put a comforting hand on her shoulder.
The two of them had talked about this before, especially as Travis learned his dad had been in the closet his entire life and Maya tried to come out to her own father, only to have him actually slap her across the face, resulting in a restraining order.
Tonight, however, few words were passed between the two, both of them just sitting together.
"Do you need anything?" Travis asked after a few minutes.
"No," Maya said, the pain in her arm from hitting the dresser still not totally gone, making her feel more on edge, "I think I'm just going to lay in here for a little bit."
"Ok," Travis said, "Want me to get you your phone and put on some music?"
"Please," Maya nodded, moving into the best position she could in the bed.
Travis put on some music and helped Maya with the pillows before leaving her to rest.
She must have fallen asleep or something because the next thing she remembered was the door opening and Carina coming in.
"Hi Bambina," she smiled, "How are you feeling?"
"Tired," Maya said, smiling at her a little, "How was your day?"
"Good," Carina said, changing out of her work clothes into sweats, "Travis said you hit your arm?"
"On the dresser," Maya nodded, "It's fine though. It hurt like hell for a few minutes, but it's better."
"How did you hit the dresser?" Carina asked, brushing a piece of blonde hair off Maya's face.
"I was pacing," Maya sighed, "My mom called and wanted us to come to her house with her siblings again."
"Dio mio," Carina sighed, shaking her head, "I am sorry. I love your mother, but sometimes…"
"She's an idiot," Maya said, "I know. I told her we wouldn't come."
"How was the rest of the day?" Carina asked.
"Good," Maya said, "We watched a lot of TV and Trav baked bread."
"Si, I know," Carina said, "We are having sandwiches for dinner, but I can heat up some soup if you would rather have that."
"I'll eat a sandwich," Maya said as Carina helped her up.
The four of them ate dinner together before Vic and Travis headed home.
"Thank you so much for coming over today," Carina said, smiling at them as they left.
"Any time," Vic said, nodding, "I had fun."
"Me too," Travis said, nodding, "See you guys later."
"Bye," Maya and Carina called as their friends left.
"Ok, Bambina," Carina said, knowing from Maya's body language that she was tired, "Let's go to bed."
Maya nodded, letting Carina help her get ready for bed.
"I am going to try to go without the strong pain meds tonight," Maya said, "I think I feel ok enough for that."
"Ok," Carina said, hesitantly, "But if you are struggling, please wake me up, ok?"
Maya nodded as Carina turned off the lights.
"Love you," Maya said, giving Carina a kiss.
"Love you too," Carina said, cuddling close to Maya as they both slowly drifted off to sleep.
What did you think? If you have anything you'd like to see Maya tackle with these two broken arms, let me know! Thanks for reading!
