Attack on Titan

The Devil Unleashed: Cold Thoughts

The military on Paradis Island was divided between the veterans that lost their trust in Eren Yeager…and the cadets that believed that he was the only person who could save them from their enemies of the world. His unjust attack on Liberio had ruined whatever hopes the Survey Corps had of establishing the beginnings of a peaceful attempt to resolve the past hatred towards all Eldians and left them exposed to the inevitability and cruelty of another war. Worst was that he refused to explain himself on why he acted out the way he had, resulting in several casualties on their end due to the retaliation by a handful of Marley's younger military members.

"He still refuses to answer any questions?" Dot Pixis asked Hange Zoe as the woman returned from the dungeon cells.

"If he didn't tell us anything when we were on our way back from Marley, he won't say anything to any of us," she told him. "What are we going to do with him? We put our trust in him…and he betrayed us."

"What can we do…except what we believe we should?"

What they believed they should do. That was code for replacing Eren with a candidate for the power of the Attack and Founding Titans, maintaining their hold on the Founder while entrusting their future to someone they felt they could trust to do what Eren wouldn't do without their permission to act. There were several volunteers from the Garrison that were willing to cut their lives by thirteen years to do what was needed because they had lost faith in him, but it was a matter of choosing the right person to hold the power to ensure they wouldn't be lost to their enemies elsewhere.

"You do what you have to," Hange told Pixis. "I have to check in with Levi."

They were so secretive about their intentions, and that was why Levi didn't trust either Yeager brother now. Even as he sat in front of Zeke Yeager, he couldn't think of anything other than carrying out Erwin Smith's last order to kill the Beast Titan.

You can kill him now if you want, he thought he heard a little girl's voice nearby. Not that it matters, anymore. There is a storm coming for you all, and you can't escape it.

Zeke, who was reading his book, looked up and uttered, "Did you hear a little girl just now?"

"Be quiet," Levi told him.

"No, really, I heard a little girl. She was telling me that we were all going to die."

"You will die if you don't shut up," Levi threatened him.

Two eyes look to the past, two eyes to the future, and two more in the present, that voice went again, but Levi ignored her. Even if you beware the dark skies, you won't outrun the storm that will swallow you whole.

Several of Levi's men came by and had looks of concern on their faces.

"What is it?" He asked them.

"We've been hearing a little girl's voice the last few minutes, and she's been telling us something about him (the guy points to Zeke). It's not good."

"You've been out here long enough that you're hearing things," Levi told him.

"She said that he is no longer worth protecting," another man told Levi, "that we're going to die, anyway, because of the Yeager brothers."

"What else has this girl told you?" He wanted to hear.

"That a storm is coming," a third Survey Corps member told him. "I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm done with having to babysit this prick (he points to Zeke). Let's just get rid of him before he gets rid of us."

"We don't know if this girl is even telling the truth," Levi used common sense.

Historia looked at the girl in front of her, never seeing her before today, and never knowing any girl to have a look of contempt in her eyes or on her pale skin as she sat on the porch. There was something not right about her, even though she wasn't sure what it was.

It's nothing really personal, ma'am, she thought she heard the girl say to her, but you should know that in due time, maybe a week from now…or three days from today…everything that you think matters will not matter, anymore.

"Why?" She asked out loud.

Because of someone you thought you could trust to ensure a future causing a violent turn of events that have forced Marley's hand for the worst. The people that see you as devils will do whatever it takes to erase you from existence now, even if it means trading salvation for damnation. All any of you can do now…is pray for absolution. Nobody will be spared. Everyone will be at risk, no matter where they are…no matter who they are. Your friend, if he's even worthy of being called such… He should've known better than to set into play what will be an inescapable fate for all who draw breath.

"Who are you?"

One name you might have for me is a little girl lost in the uncaring world…or a little girl thrown to the uncaring universe's wolves. Maybe I am the Devil's child…or God's disgrace that he saw fit to abandon because he couldn't make time for me. I know that I revel in people's misery and suffering. I love it when everyone is forced to accept their fate and pay the price for their lives being turned upside-down. I am the one without any shred of hope and love, the mistress of grief and loss. I am…Sister Deception. I am the wandering maiden that shows the signs of inevitable outcomes that can only be embraced. May you find hope in the next life when it comes. May you find peace at the end of this life.

Then…she was gone, as though she were never there.

"Historia?" A man standing away from her spoke. "Did… Was there a little girl sitting out here just a moment ago?"

"I don't know, anymore," she responded.

Kalte Hölle. That was the only way to describe this vast, cold wasteland that Marley had claimed when none of the other nations decided there was nothing there to mine. It was here that Reiner, Pieck and Galliard were ordered to use their Titan powers to thaw out something Marley had found a few years back that they were only told would put an end to the devils of Paradis.

"Brrr!" Galliard shivered as he pulled his coat around him tighter. "What the Hell could be here that Marley wanted us here?"

That's what I'm wondering myself? Reiner thought as he followed the Marleyan man that was leading down a mineshaft.

"You Eldian wretches are in for a scare," the man told them as the elevator reached the bottom of how far this place was mined. "We need you to turn Titan as much as you can to melt the ice off of that wall."

Pieck's eyes widened at the sight in front of them.

"Holy God," she gasped.

"We doubt he had anything to do with this."

Dubbed the Wall of Serpents, Marleyans had an initial fear of the hidden beast trapped inside it, unable to make the majority of its form. But they knew three things about it already; it was bigger than the Colossal Titan, fierce…and possibly the only thing that could eradicate the Eldians for good.

Reiner wasn't even sure why this thing was called the Wall of Serpents, but he could've sworn he saw at least three heads. If anything, he believed that the wall of ice was a prison of at least three massive serpents the likes of which nobody in the world today had ever seen before.

"Where do we begin?" He asked.

To be continued…

A/N: Sister Deception, an original character that was made in an earlier story that has yet to be resumed (Because I Believe in Second Chances), introduced as a type of ancient opposite to the Brother Correction character. I'm hoping to expand upon her in the future, but she is by no measure as openly involved in things as B.C. is in trying to either change, prevent or undo certain events. She is more along the lines of making sure something happens, for better or for worse, and that there is suffering to be reveled in, somewhat like a sadist. Eventually, I want her to say something similar to what had been in The Crow: City of Angels: "We all have our pleasures. Mine is the pain of others." She is basically someone that seeks to see discord and mayhem occur so that she may enjoy the spoils, which makes her quite the dangerous individual if taken on and not treated seriously. Everyone has an opposite, right?
