Ghira almost fell back as he left unfamiliar sands and returned to familiar ones. His eyes still widened in the terror he had heard. Kali and Illa seemed to be faring no better, given how much their bodies were shaking.

"That- that isn't... it can't..."

"Calm down," Ghira said to himself as much as he did to them. "We can't do anything if we start to freak out. We need to-"

"Ghira, what can we do?" Kali said, her voice devoid of her usual joy. "We're stuck in Menagerie because of this field. And you heard what he wants to do. How- how can we stop that?"

Ghira didn't have an answer. He didn't know how he could stop him.

But that didn't mean he was going to give up.

It also meant that he wasn't prepared for what he heard.

"We're Saved!"

Every pair of eyes in Menagerie's market turned to the source of the voice. A former member of the White Fang who defected, a lizard Faunus with a tail, and a man with a fist over his heart.

"Are you insane?! He's going to kill everyone! He trapped us in here!" A woman with feathers yelled back.

"He's saving us! Now the humans won't have their chance to wipe us out!"

"The world will be all Faunus! Like it should be!"

"Those people are innocent!"

"They were about to kill us because of our ancestors! We're going to live now!"

Ghira couldn't believe what he was hearing. Members of his own community, of his own organization, were cheering for someone whose solution to Faunus discrimination was to wipe all life outside of Menagerie.

And it was too late to change any of it.

"Dedicate your hearts!"

"Dedicate Your Hearts!"

"DEDICATE YOUR HEARTS!"

"Let us out!"

"Open the gates! We're all going to die here!"

Marvin had been a guard for Atlas's wall for over a decade. It wasn't the best job in the world, but it paid his bills and meant his family could be comfortable. The job was simple too, all he had to do was either open or close a gate. So he had nothing to complain about.

Until today.

"Get back!"

"This gathering is disorderly and illegal. Please return to your homes and-"

"Aren't you listening?! The Grimm are coming!"

"We're going to die if we stay here!"

"All of us! You need to run too!"

In all his years here, Marvin had never been witness to chaos like this.

Seemingly every Faunus in Mantle was at his gate, begging him to open it so they could run out. Which was baffling in and of itself. Even if they were discriminated against, why would they want to run from the Kingdom? And why were they so convinced that they were going to die?

Still, Marvin had his orders. He wasn't a soldier, but he still had an authority to answer too. And his superiors made it clear that he was not to open the gate until the situation was rectified. So all he could do was sit back and wait for the crowd to disperse.

That's when the rock came through the window. It didn't hit Marvin, but it was exactly the sort of event to get the crowd riled up. They were pushing even harder against the guards now.

"Get past them!"

"We have to open the doors ourselves!"

"Someone get in there!"

Marvin had to grab his taser, something he had never done before. He had never had problems like this before.

More roks flew through the windows. Some only caused cracks, but some of them broke right through. And once the windows were gone, so too was Marvin's safety. Because that's when the Faunus started to break into his compound.

"Stay back. Stay Back!"

Marvin tried to fight back, but it wasn't long before the Faunus had gotten the taser out of his hand. And once he was disarmed, the Faunus got to work.

"Find the button!"

"Open the Fucking Gates!"

Once the right button was found, the doors of the gate were opened.

The floodgates opened.

Vale

Glynda Goodwitch started with widened eyes at the footage captured by her remaining teams and colleagues. Ever since the fall of Beacon, she had been trying her best to maintain order in Vale. She was no Ozpin, but she had to do her best to prevent the kingdom from falling into even more chaos.

And now, it seemed she had another problem to deal with.

"This can't be possible."

"It's happening live," Oobleck informed her, his natural energy depleted. "We don't have an answer."

Professor Port was with them, watching live footage of Grimm disintegrating without being attacked. It was happening all over Vale. The Grimm were simply disappearing, with no one the wiser as to why.

"How long has this been happening?"

"We just received this footage a few moments before you did. It is very recent," Port responded. "And before you ask, no one has a reason. No one can fathom a single reason as to why this is occurring."

Goodwitch took in a deep breath in an attempt to keep calm. This was an unorthodox situation, but she had been dealing with many of them ever since the school first fell. She could deal with this.

That was her thought process before the secretary burst through the door and shut it behind her. Jennifer, an older woman in a pencil skirt did not look very calm.

"Jennifer? What is it?"

"The Faunus have lost their minds," she said breathlessly. "Every single Faunus student has hounded my desk. They keep saying we need to evacuate."

Glynda frowned. "Evacuate? From what?"

"I have no idea. Everyone was so busy yelling over each other to give me a good explanation."

"Let me talk to them," Oobleck suddenly said. "I believe I should be able to convince them to try-"

*BANG*

Everyone stopped when they heard the sound come from the door. They even saw it get pushed. Someone was trying to get in

But before anyone could decide how to continue, the door burst open. And every one of Beacon's remaining Faunus students had dragged themselves inside.

"Ms. Goodwitch! We need to evacuate!"

"The city is going to be attacked soon! We need to move!"

'Someone safe! Please tell us there's a place!"

"He's going to wipe us all out!"

"I don't want to die!"

Glynda had to stand behind her coworkers to prevent the students from running over her. she had no idea what they were even talking about, let alone how to quell their fears.

The only thing she knew was that today was going to be a long day.

Vacuo

"One grilled cheese with ham, coming up!"

Sun Wukong never thought he would enjoy working behind a grill. But it was a lot more fun than he was expecting. Especially when his team, along with the transferred CFVY, were helping out.

"Save some of that ham monkey boy. We got some sandwiches of our own to make."

"And the cheese," Neptune added. "Don't use up all of that."

Sun smiled at the opposite team leader as he continued to cook. Right now, the team was working with a relief program to give food to needier communities. And it felt good to help out.

Right then, Velvet and Fox came in, both carrying a box of meat patties.

"Finally, I was wondering when you two would get here. Put the box in the freezer."

The two of them nodded and went towards the freezer. They were going to open the door when Velvet froze. The box fell out of her hands when she stopped moving.

So did Sun. The spatula fell out of his hands, as did the plate with the sandwich.

Coco and Fox frowned at them both.

"Hey! We're still working here. Wake up you two!"

Neither of them moved. It was like they had been frozen in place.

"AAAHHH!"

With that shared yell, the two Faunus came back to reality.

"What happened?" Coco questioned, only to become worried when Velvet fell to her knees. Her hands were covering her mouth, and tears were starting to spill from her eyes.

Sun wasn't doing much better. He fell back on his bum, his eyes frozen wide in pure shocked terror. His mouth kept opening and closing, almost like he wanted to say something to the world, but he couldn't form a single word.

Fox tried to reassure Velvet by placing his hand on her shoulder, but all it did was cause her to jump and shriek. The same happened when Neptune tried to reach out to Sun. That's when Coco lost her patience.

"Sun! Velvet! What happened? Why are you two so freaked out?"

The monkey and the rabbit shared a look. A knowing, pained look.

"We're all going to die."

"We need to get back to Atlas."

Yang turned to her sister. Her voice was devoid of the hope and childish charm it was known for. It was quiet and pointed.

"Ruby?"

"Grab on. We need to get to Ironwood and make him evacuate the city."

Yang's eyes widened. "Ruby, you can't! Carrying the four of us will drain you! And Ironwood won't listen. Not after-"

"That doesn't matter Yang!"

Yang reeled back. Ruby had never yelled at anyone like that before. Ever.

"We can't afford to waste any time here. The Colussus Grimm are still being born. And they are heading towards Atlas."

She was right. The Grimm had not stopped their march since they had been birthed. And the distance from here to Atlas was not long enough.

"We need to go," Ruby said with no room for argument. "Now."

Yang didn't like this, but her sister was right. They didn't have a choice. So she tightened her grip on Weiss and took hold of Blake, who was still frozen stiff. Ruby attached herself to all of them, and they were off.

A flurry of rose pedals rocketed towards Atlas. Hoping they wouldn't be too late.

Ironwood sighed at the disaster his kingdom had become. Every single council member was either corrupt or incompetent. Jaques had been one of them, which made that situation infinitely worse. And there were also the lies he had been told. The relic that team RWBY had stolen from Salem was also attracting more Grimm towards Atlas.

And then there were all of his actions.

Ever since he had arrived, the tensions between the Faunus and human inhabitants of Atlas had only worsened. They were always negative relations, but Ironwood and the council had been trying to fix them for years now. But ever since he came with team RWBY and Qrow, things had gotten worse.

He exasperated the conflict with attacks on discriminatory humans. The riot he incited at the mining factory accused of slave labor was televised everywhere, despite Ironwood's efforts. And the way he somehow managed to make Adam Taurus follow him was as concerning as it was miraculous.

And now, Ironwood has another Faunus-related issue to deal with.

"I'm sorry, they're doing what?"

"They've broken through the gate, sir. All these Faunus are running out of the city as fast as they can."

Ironwood frowned as he tried to absorb the news. He knew that some acts of violence had been committed against the Faunus in past weeks, but that alone couldn't account for this mass exodus. There had to be something else going on.

"Are there any clues as to why they are running?"

"That's easy sir. They weren't being quiet about their reason. It just makes no sense," the soldier on the comm explained. "They keep saying that someone is going to kill them. That someone is going to destroy Atlas."

Ironwood's frown deepened. Once again, he had no idea how to handle this situation. He didn't even know how to explain it. Mass emigration from Atlas out of fear of an attack? That was unheard of.

"Keep me posted soldier. I'll try to figure out a solution," Ironwood said as he cut off that call. He then opened another. "Schnee. I need you here."

It only took a few minutes for the door to open and Ironwood's lieutenant to come in.

"Sir, I got your call. What-?"

Winter was cut off when a flurry of Rose petals burst into the room. Four young girls, one unconscious, one frozen in fear, and another staggering to stand, all appeared next to Winter.

"Weiss!" The lieutenant kneeled down next to her unconscious sister.

"Rose? Xiao Long? What's going on?"

"We need to- evacuate- the city- ugh," Ruby said as she tried her hardest not to vomit. Running with people was a problem for her. Doing it with three people over so many miles was worse.

"Evacuate the city?" Ironwood was getting tired of surprises. "You may not be aware of this, but every single Faunus in Atlas has the same idea. I just had a crowd of them attack one of the gates to run out of the city."

"Sir?" Winter asked in concern. She was still holding her sister. "What's happening?"

"So many things have been happening today, Schnee. So many things," Ironwood said, his hands trailing down his face. He gave the teenagers in the room a hard look.

"Give me one good reason I should evacuate the entire city."

"Because we're running out of time," Yang informed the general. "He's somehow gotten control of an army of Grimm the size of skyscrapers. He's hundreds, maybe more of them. And he wants to use them to wipe out the four kingdoms."

Both Ironwood and Shnee stared at the sisters as though they had lost their minds. But Ironwood quickly shited his face to anger.

"How do you expect me to believe any of that? How would that even be possible?"

"We- we don't know sir," Ruby admitted. "We know that Weiss tried to stop him, but he disappeared at the same time that she went unconscious. After that, all these Colossus Grimm started to form out of the ground."

"Colossus Grimm?"

The biggest Grimm we have ever seen. A person is probably the size of one of their fingers. And there's an army of them marching this way right now."

"An army? Miss Xiao Long, how in the name of the two brothers would that even be pos-"

*STOMP*

*STOMP*

*BOOM*

Every single person in the room (as well as every person in Mantle) felt their stomach drop when they heard that sound. It sounded like thunder walking on the earth, getting closer and closer.

That was when Ironwood received a video call.

"Sir. You need to see this."

There was a hand on the wall of Mantle.

The hand, the massive hand that gripped Atlas' wall and crushed pieces to rubble, was an anomaly. No Grimm had ever grown so large as to stand tall enough to hold the wall.

And when the Grimm lifted its head. It became clear that the anomalies did not end there. The Grimm had a bipedal human body, but the face of a wolf. A face that starred and froze every human and Faunus that looked upon it.

That's when the wall exploded.

Massive chunks of the walls ground level went flying, falling and crushing buildings and people. The flying rubble destroyed so much of the city of Mantle in less than a second. And when the Grimm knocked down the rest of the wall in his area, its entire visible body meant the end of the idea of safety in Mantle.

"What the hell was that?!"

Yang, being the only person left with her body and mind mostly intact, was the only one able to answer Ironwood.

"It's what we told you about general. He took control of the Grimm. He's made an army in the hopes of wiping out the world."

Ironwood didn't want to believe the young Huntress. He wanted to believe that all of this was nothing more than a fever dream. But the evidence was right in front of him. It just knocked down the wall.

And he only knew one way to respond.

"Get every soldier ready. We're going to fight."

The next chapter will see the first step of the Trampling come to fruition. Atlas will face its reckoning. And after that, the rest of Remnant will have to face Grimm and power, unlike anything they have ever seen before.

And just before anyone asks, this is an AU. So events that led up to the Trampling will obviously be different from what happened in the show. When we see certain characters, some of whom will be introduced in the next chapter, they will not be the same as in canon.

And before anyone asks, no. I don't intend to reveal who the person at the center of the Trampling is. I think the mystery will make it more impactful. You can imagine whoever you'd like, whether canon character or OC. Who would you're genocidal maniac be?

Also, I was thinking of possibly changing the name of this story and the disaster as a whole. I don't think 'Trampling' quite sells the horror and desperation that the Rumbling does. Does anyone have any other ideas of what this event could be called?

I am looking forward to it.

Anyway, please leave reviews, tell me what you think, and I will see you all next time.

Bye!
