JJ's Point of View
JJ was speechless as Emily stormed off out of the house; sure, she expected them to argue but never in all her days dating the brunette profiler did JJ ever expect her to walk out. Walking backwards the few steps she needed to, JJ slowly sank down onto the sofa before resting her face in her hands while the silent tears she wasn't aware she was crying fell down her face in silver streams. The three years she had spent with Emily has been the best three years of her life, she couldn't believe how happy the brunette had made her – and not being the person always in charge of what was happening in the relationship made her enjoy her time with Emily even more. She sat there for what felt like an eternity before she finally dried her eyes and started tidying up the empty glasses of champagne that were littered around the sitting room. Sitting around wouldn't do her any good: she needed to clear her head. "Emily loves me and she didn't take anything with her" she said out loud to herself as she loaded the empty glasses and plates into the dishwasher in the kitchen. "She's got to come back tonight or else she won't have any clean clothes." With the thought of Emily coming back that night, JJ felt alleviated and with a power she hadn't realized was within her, began tidying up the house and getting a light supper ready to eat before bed. There wasn't a lot in the cupboards of refrigerator to eat, as Emily and JJ were going to be going to the grocery store the following day, but JJ managed to find some cheese and crackers with a little sandwich pickle to eat.
It was about an hour later, once JJ had washed her dishes, gotten into her baby pink chemise ready for bed and had put on a movie to watch as she waited for Emily that she heard a key turning in the lock of the front door. Ignoring the butterflies in her stomach, JJ focused all of her attention on the opening credits of the movie she had just put on. She wasn't going to go straight to Emily – she wasn't going to appear like that kind of girlfriend – she'd wait until she came through to the lounge.
Emily's Point of View
Emily was furious! How could JJ say she loved her after having just rebuffed her marriage proposal in front of all their friends: the people Emily considered her family. Turning quickly to look at JJ, she spoke with venom in her voice before storming out of the house to clear her head. She needed to get away from her beautiful blonde and think about the situation level-headedly. She didn't want to lose her. She wanted everything with the media liaison. But right now, if she stayed in the house, she would end up saying something she'd regret and potentially ruin their relationship. JJ was smart, she would know that.
Walking past the small table in the hallway, Emily grabbed her purse and keys before opening the front door and slamming it shut behind her. She loved JJ with all of her heart and would always forgive her no matter happened; but right now, she needed her to know how angry she was. To know how hurt she was.
Getting in her car, Emily drove around for a couple of hours, with no particular destination in mind but just wanting to clear her head. Without realising it, the brunette profiler drove across town to the outer suburbs where JJ used to live before they both moved into their own place together. She had no idea what had caused her to drive there as her steering was in autopilot, but she stopped the car across the street all the same. Quietly, she just sat in her car for a while, watching the house and letting her mind drift to wherever it wanted. Driving had calmed her down a lot and although she was still annoyed with JJ, she wasn't as angry as she had been when she left the house. As she sat there, she began to notice all the little things that had changed in the neighbourhood since she had last been there on the day that JJ had moved out: the trees were a little bit bearer as winter had fully set in; there were more cars on the parked on the side of the road as well, but mostly what Emily noticed was the silver minivan parked on the driveway of what used to be JJ's home.
JJ and Emily were, according to their friends, the strongest couple they had seen in a long time; they were the idealised couple that everyone strived to be. According to their friends, JJ and Emily could work through anything. "Refusing to marry me speaks volumes" Emily thought to herself silently in her car though. "I wasn't suggesting we got married tomorrow, I just wanted her to know that I wanted to marry her; to call her mine forever."
With a renowned anger of truly realising what JJ had done, Emily turned the key in the ignition and drove the half hour or so back to the house she shared with the blonde. She would get an overnight bag and stay at Garcia's house for the night; she could talk to JJ properly tomorrow once she'd been asleep and hopefully calmed down a bit.
Screeching into the driveway in her black Lexus, Emily jumped out her car and quickly made her way into the house; slamming the front door closed in the process. She could hear the TV playing 'Titanic' as she removed her coat and hung it up on the pegs: it was one of JJ's favourite movies. Walking through to the lounge to go upstairs, Emily saw JJ sat on the sofa watching the movie, her eyes transfixed as though she was adamantly trying to avoid something. The slight flickering of her baby blue eyes gave it away that she had heard the brunette come back home and was just ignoring her, however.
"Seriously, JJ? You're going to ignore me?" Emily exclaimed. "I'm only getting an overnight bag and then I'll be going again as I'm staying at Garcia's tonight. I'll be back at some point tomorrow."
Without looking back Emily marched straight past JJ and headed up the stairs to get an overnight bag. She knows she should really phone Garcia and ask her first if it's okay to stay at her house, but she was pretty sure she wouldn't have a problem. After all, Garcia was one of Emily's best friends and it beat sleeping in the car. Throwing her pyjamas and toothbrush into the bag, along with a pair of jeans, clean underwear and a shirt for the following day, Emily wiped away a stray tear she hadn't realised was rolling down her cheek. She wasn't usually one to cry, but since she had been with JJ she had become a lot less stoic and didn't mind showing her weaknesses once in a while. But still, she only ever cried when she was on her own, or when it was just her and JJ.
Once she was back downstairs, she quickly made herself a mug of coffee in a to-go mug and was just about to leave again when she heard JJ pause the movie she had been watching and stand up, heading towards the front door.
"Emily. Please. Can we talk about this?"
The brunette profiler turned around, her loose hair flying around her face. "Talk about what, JJ? You've just declined my proposal in front of all our friends. I think that speaks loud enough, don't you?" Before giving her girlfriend a chance to reply, Emily opened the front door and walked out, slamming it shut behind her.
