Wait a moment, thought Lincoln, I can't just tell them I saw Chandler change into some kind of monster, they'll think I'm crazy. Maybe I am...

"Hey, Earth to Linc, are you there?" Clyde's voice brought him back from his mind.

"Y-Yeah, Lincoln's here." The white haired boy faked a smile.

"So, Lincoln, you asked if we saw that. What were you talking about? I only saw Chandler and his gang running away." Rusty asked, he was worried for his friend.

Crap, Lincoln thought.

"Y-Yeah, I mean, did you see how scared they were?"

"Well, yeah, I think half of the cafeteria saw it." Lincoln looked around and noted a bunch of people were staring at them, some confused and some weary.

"Weird, he shouted 'grim' before running away." Zach commented.

"No, no, he said 'grimm'. He pronounced the m longer than normal." Clyde corrected.

"What's grimm or a grimm?" Liam asked no one in particular.

"I have no idea, but we better finish the homework before we go to class," Lincoln said, making a mental note to search for the word later.

The other boys remembered the homework and quickly finished it, even having enough time to eat something.

A couple hours later, they finished that day's classes and everyone went their own way. Lincoln's being waiting for his sister to pick him up. While waiting he started to reflect on what happened earlier.

I swear I saw him change, he talked in his mind, also, what is this 'grimm'? I noticed some people started avoiding me since the incident and some were observing me. As if I were something dangerous, but why? Besides my encounter with Chandler I've been mostly under the radar trying not to stand out too much. It's weird.

A horn woke him up and he noticed Leni was already there and Lynn was already in the van, they were waiting for him. He quickly grabbed his bag and entered the vehicle.

"Are you okay bro?" Luna asked kindly. "You were kinda spacing out there."

"Maybe he had his mind in outer space." Luan giggled. "Get it?" Everyone just ignored her and her bad jokes.

"In all seriousness, are you okay Linky?" Leni also asked and looked at him from the rearview mirror.

"Y-Yes, yes, I'm tired, that's all, let's just go home." Lincoln asked, being actually tired sure helped his case, so his sisters stopped the interrogation and Leni drove to get their younger sisters and go home.

Once back home, they had lunch and nothing too interesting happened, until everyone started to go to their rooms. The white haired boy was on his way when he was stopped by his younger sister, Lucy.

"Your soul feels different," his goth sister said, and seemingly appeared out of thin air.

"How come?" he asked, he didn't jump, but he was slightly unnerved by his sister just standing there.

"It feels dangerous, sigh. And while most don't know, they can slightly feel it. It's a lovely dark feeling, sigh."

"Y-Yeah, s-sure," Lucy was a bit weirder than usual, so Lincoln was confused and a bit weirded out. "Anyways, I'm going to my room. See ya."

"Finally, some peace," he sighed after closing the door. "Can you believe it? Everyone thinks I'm different, is it true? What about what I saw? Am I going crazy? I wish you, who can see me, could talk to me and comment on it."

Lincoln sighed again and took out a blank notebook and a pencil, he felt like drawing, but not his usual designs for a superhero or concept art for an original comic, he decided to draw what he saw Chandler change into. If he didn't know himself, he would say he was forced or compelled to do it.

He finished his drawing and once he was happy he put it in front of him, as if showing it to someone.

"What do you think? Does it look like what I saw? I think it does."

At that moment, his younger sister Lana, barged into his room and saw the drawing.

"Wow, bro! What is that?!" The blonde girl in overalls pointed excited.

"It's just a drawing, what do you think?" He tried to play it cool.

"It looks amazing!" She praised and tipped her red hat. "A lot better than those lame superheroes," she teased him.

"Come on, it's cool, but it can't be better than Ace Savvy," he said.

"No way, this is incredible! Where is it from?!"

"I don't remember, but I saw it somewhere... in school I think, maybe Clyde showed it to me or something." He shrugged. He was bad at lying, but it was far easier to just bend the truth a little.

"Didn't know Clyde was cool," she bluntly said.

"Anyways, little sister, what are you doing here?"

"I live here," she pointed out. "Now seriously," she giggled a bit, "I just came here to borrow your plan making skills to play a prank on Lola."

"Why don't you ask Luan for help?"

"Seriously?" She looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah, you're right, she would make her bald or something." Lana took Lincoln's hand and dragged him out of his room. Just before he closed the door, an incoming call rang from his laptop, but it was in a really low volume as he had talked with Ronnie Ann and stayed up late the night before and he couldn't hear it.

After a couple hours, in which he and Lana pranked Lola and glued so much glitter to her that she looked like a disco ball, Lincoln finally returned to his room and read some comics. He then had the idea to call Ronnie Ann and chat with her, but he noticed a message from Pop-Pop. It read as it follows:

Call me as soon as possible, alone.

The boy did as he was told and called Albert, his grandfather, he answered immediately.

"Hey Pop-Pop, I read your message, is everything alright?" Lincoln was concerned by the message, normally his grandfather was easygoing and really funny but the message was short and seemed important.

"Hey Lincoln, are you alone?" Albert was a bit nervous and looked at the door constantly.

"Yeah, I'm in my room al-wait a second." His grandfather nodded and asked him to wear headphones.

Meanwhile Lincoln got up and opened the lid to the ventilation in his room, there, in the duct, sat his sister Lucy, writing one of her poems.

"Out," the boy said.

Lucy merely said "sigh" before coming down of the vent and exiting her brother's room.

"Now I'm alone, Pop-Pop," he said after connecting his headphones.

"Good, good." He just said. An awkward silence started.

"So, Pop-Pop, what did you want to talk to me about?" Lincoln finally broke the silence.

"I'm dying Lincoln," he bluntly said, "At most I have a year left."

"W-What?" Lincoln's eyes watered up, his grandfather, one of his best friends was dying and wouldn't see him no more.

"Believe me, me dying is the least of my concerns, I'm worried about you."

"Wh-What are you talking about," the boy croaked. Damn knot in my throat, he thought.

"You feel different, did something... weird, happen to you by any chance?" Albert's eyes were serious and looking at his grandson in a way it felt like he was watching his very soul.

Lincoln froze up with that question. How does he know?

"Judging by your reactions, I guess so," He then started to type something on his computer.

"I'm sending you some images, I want you to watch them and tell me if you have seen something like them."

"I-I saw one, I even drew it." He showed him his drawing.

"Oh, so a klaustreich, those bastards," Albert said, relaxing a bit, "at least it wasn't a hundjäger."

"Wait, you can see them?! That means I'm not crazy right?!"

"Shhhh, not so loud," Albert pressed a finger on his lips. "No, I can't normally see them, and also no, you aren't crazy."

"Normally?" Lincoln tilted his head to one side. He then remembered the mysterious word he heard. "What's grimm or a grimm?"

"So you've heard of it already. Good, then this will be a bit easier. Get comfy boy, this will be a long story about the Grimms, our ancestors" His grandfather sighed in resignation, he didn't want that kind of life for his grandson. "Before I forget, while I'm talking to you, I'll send you a bunch of scans. Also, if anything happens to me, look for Nick Burckardt. He'll help you."
