DM Margo and The Runaway Boulder Chapter 2

Margo was amazed and spellbound, suddenly she was very interested about the boulder and wanted to see it for herself. Margo hadn't seen a boulder before and she wondered what it looked like. Later, it was time for bed. ''Mom, Dad, Uncle Dru'' said Margo after she had brushed her teeth, ''Please can we go and see this boulder? I'd really to know more about it''.

"Of course, Margo," Lucy said, picking up Margo and carrying her over to the room with Edith, Agnes, Lucky, Kyle, and Blondie. ''When?'' Margo asked desperately. "Tomorrow, sweetie," Lucy answered flatly. ''But Mom!'' Margo protested, ''I can't wait that long!''. "That's enough, young lady," Lucy reported, putting Margo down onto the bed and tucking her in. "Now get some sleep. We'll take a look at this so-called boulder in the morning".

But Margo didn't want to wait until morning. That night in bed, she tossed and turned trying to sleep. It took Margo ages to fall asleep, She couldn't stop thinking about the boulder what her adoptive uncle had said. The next morning at breakfast. Margo ate her bacon and eggs very quickly, she wanted to get out in search of the boulder. ''Margo slow down!'' said Lucy, ''Eat properly! You'll make yourself sick!''.

Margo did so. ''Sorry Mom'' she said, ''I just wanna go and see the boulder! You said we could do it today!''. ''Why the rush Margo?'' Dru asked, ''Eet's not like the boulder's gonna go anywhere!''. "I've spend all night thinking about the boulder, you've been talking to me about, Uncle Dru". ''Margo let me tell you what a boulder actually is'' said Dru, ''It's a large rock, typically one that has been worn smooth by erosion''.

Margo couldn't believe it! It was just a piece of rock! She'd been hoping it was something more exciting! ''Eet could be watching people you know'' Dru added. Before Margo could say anything else, Gru got there first, ''Dat's bonkers! How can eet? Boulders don't have eyes!''. Now Margo really wanted see if the huge piece of rock had eyes or not! After breakfast, when everyone had brushed their teeth and got dressed, Dru offered to take Margo to see the boulder to put her out of her misery.

"I wanna see that boulder, too, Uncle Dru!" Edith said, ''Please can I?''. ''Sure Edith, who else wants to come?'' asked Dru. "Me! Please!" piped up Agnes. "OK, we're all going'' said Lucy, ''And that means, you Gru". "What?! Urrrgh!" Gro groaned, ''No way!''. So Dru lead the family to where the boulder stood on the Freedonian Mountains while Gru trudged slowly and grumpily behind. "There it is!" Dru cried, pointing up at the huge boulder at the top of the mountains.

Margo stared at the huge round piece of rock. ''This is it?'' she asked. "I guess it could be," Lucy whispered. ''Yes Margo, it is!'' Dru said, ''You wanted to see it so here you are!''. Everyone kept their eyes on the boulder for a minute. It appeared that Dru was right it does stand there proud and silent. "Uncle Dru," Edith said. "Are you sure it's watchin' us?". ''It's very big isn't it?'' Margo asked in amazement. Then she looked closer, ''I can't see any eyes Uncle Dru, so how can it watching use?''.

"I don't know," observed Dru. "But in case you don't know, it could be magical". "See! There's no eyes on that huge rock" Gru said, "It's just a dumb pile of rubble sitting on a landslide doing NOTHING!". ''Dat's as maybe brother, but dere's something strange about dis one!'' said Dru. ''What sort of something strange?'' Margo asked her uncle. "Not sure," Dru said. "That's all I know". Suddenly, rain drops began to plummet from the cloudy skies. A large slab of rock landed in front of them. Everyone was shocked. Gru was concerned.

''We'd best leave until de weather's better, de rain loosens some of dis rock!''. "I think it's the boulder wanting us to go away," whispered Agnes. As they went away, Margo turned round and looked back at the boulder. "Come on, Margo!" Lucy called to her daughter. ''But Mom! I thought I saw some eyes appear on the boulder!'' Margo protested.

Then Lucy saw more rocks began to fall and she quickly ran over to her daughter. She grabbed Margo's hand and pulled her away from the falling rocks. "Margo, we have to leave now! It ain't safe out here! The rain's getting stronger!" she said urgently. Margo knew there was no point arguing. She hurried along with Lucy after the others. Little did she know behind them after they left, a face appeared on the boulder at the very moment, but it quickly disappeared without anyone noticing.

They all took shelter back at the mansion. Inside, Margo tried to tell Lucy about the face she thought she had seen. ''Mom, I saw a face appear on the boulder! It had eyes, a nose and a mouth!''. "Margo, stop it!" Lucy ordered. "You're takin' this conversation way too far!". ''It's true Mom, honest!'' Margo said, ''I wouldn't just make such a thing up!''. Gru had just about had enough of this boulder talk. "ENOUGH, MARGO!" he bellowed. "STOP!".

''Dad? What's wrong?'' Margo asked meekly. "I have just about had it about that boulder! Nobody cares about that stupid rock!" said Gru, crossly. He turned to Dru. "And as for you, brother, if you hadn't told one of my girls about it, she wouldn't have been all cuckoo!" he snapped, twirling his finger around his head. "Excuse me!'' retorted Dru, ''I was trying to make her feel interested. I just wanted the girls to learn". "Yeah, Gru. Margo's totally intelligent" added Lucy.

Gru couldn't control himself, he turned back to Margo. ''Margo, dis boulder nonsense has gone to your head and eet needs to stop now!''. ''But Dad..I..'' Margo started to say, but Gru cut her off. 'Otherwise'' he snarled, ''You will be grounded and dat means no more going to dance classes until I trust you again! Do you understand?''. Margo was horrified at the sound of that. She didn't want to lose her ballet lessons! "Yes, Dad," Margo groaned.
