In this life there was no such thing as fairness. Izuku learned that at a young age when he and his friend Kacchan (Katsuki) went to the local Quirk specialist on their fourth birthdays. Each time they had gone in with hope only to have it violently dashed by the bluntness of the Specialist.
Men can't get Quirks.
Men can't be Pro Heroes.
Just give up.
Now most would be left heartbroken. Allowing such harsh words to dig deep into their hearts while the mere idea of their dream is snuffed out.
Yet Izuku's father, a man that Kacchan considers his uncle, would not allow such harsh words to hamper the boy's spirits. Izuku's mother was as supportive as ever and Katsuki's mom was almost ready to attack the specialist when she had harshly treated the boys. All their parents would always support the boys in the their wishes to become heroes, no matter how cruel the world around them got.
Then fate decided to throw yet another challenge in the face of the two boys.
Inko Midoriya developed cancer.
They had been to late to find it for proper treatment. So all they could do was stand by as it got worse.
They had to see her casket sink into the ground by the age of Seven.
Hisashi tries his hardest to be there for Izuku but work was far to demanding. His last messages to Izuku before he left was about his Quirk, or rather their Quirk. Of course he had let both Mitsuki and Katsuki in on the secret.
A Quirk as dangerous as Afo in the hands of a child was a recipe for disaster or at the very least a headache.
Of course the subsequent threat Hisashi had left them should they ever tell the public about Afo was an emergency security measure.
Part of his gift to Izuku before he left was a small supply of Quirks. Nothing dangerous just ones that would be somewhat harmless in his environment. Of course Izuku had found a way to sneak some more Quirks in but Hisashi would not confront him about it.
The goodbye had been full of tears and questions after all.
Katsuki had gotten the courage to ask his uncle one major question.
"Why didn't you give me a Quirk if you had the power to?".
It was innocent enough but Hisashi had a serious glint in his eye at the question. He knelt down to Katsuki and ruffled his hair before he answered. "It would be far too dangerous.".
Now such a cryptic answer only made the boys more curious at this. They had wanted to try but Hisashi was adamant that they not do such a thing. Izuku listened and promised that he would not. Mitsuki had to make Katsuki promise he wouldn't press further, though the worry in her eyes seemed to tell that she knew why.
That night was the last night any of them would see Hisashi again. Though there would be calls for a time those stopped as well. The only evidence towards Hisashi still being alive was the flow of cheques in the mail which made it far easier for Mitsuki to live with two boys in the house.
Outside of his Quirk there was something else that was special about Izuku, one that both Bakugo's had noticed quickly as he was moved into their home. He was extremely intelligent, especially for his age. Mitsuki had found his notebooks one day and was shocked to find just how much information Izuku had written about both his own Quirks and many Heroes.
His hobby was both amazing and terrifying, then she found a special page.
And the page caused both feelings to sky rocket.
There was a rough sketch of Katsuki with a pair of gauntlets on his arms. A small list of quirks were listed underneath an independent sketch of the gauntlet. It wasn't hard for Mitsuki to piece together that Izuku wanted to give Bakugo a Quirk without giving him a Quirk.
The most prevalent Quirk listed was a small one named Infusion, this was the key to the design.
If all worked well then Katsuki would get a Quirk.
And there would be no worry of his body rejecting it.
As time passed Mitsuki would find the boys coming home with more bruises than before. Any attempt she made with to intervene with the school was shot down with red tape and plausible denial.
So she send a message to Hisashi.
At first she thought that it would be foolish, then a woman arrived at her door saying Hisashi had hired called her to help Mitsuki in court. She could hold both a serious yet heart warming expression as she met the two boys and talked to them about their injuries.
When the two inquired about Hisashi she answered without much hesitation. "He wasn't doing the best for a time, but he's been getting better, this situation has set his sights someplace other than work and it's a bit refreshing.". Everyone had been concerned when they heard that Hisashi wasn't doing well, but Miss Kuro had told them not to worry about it.
It hadn't taken long for Miss Kuro to tear her way through the School and both boys were transferred to a much less biased one. The three couldn't thank her enough as she left with a smile as bright as All Mights.
It was only couple months later that Mitsuki would notice the two boys going out after school. She didn't know where they would go, and the worry for what he less savory would do was getting to her.
So, one afternoon, she followed them.
What she found was a beach was large amounts of trash, and both boys messing around in it.
Well, messing around was not the right phrase for it.
She watched as Izuku would dismantle anything of seeming value while Katsuki would work on hauling some of the less heavy items as a sort of impromptu exercise. She could just watch as her son worked with a fire in his eyes while her nephew fiddled with machinery with an almost inhuman understanding of what he held.
It hadn't taken long for the two boys to notice her. Izuku had dropped the device he had been assembling out of discarded microwaves and a pair of vacuum cleaners. Katsuki just stared at her with a mix of shock and annoyance overtaking his fire.
Mitsuki just over to the two and was merciful.
She only lectured them for an hour about the dangers of rusted metal and beach trash before making them promise to tell her when they left for the beach.
They were allowed to keep their test spot. And she was none the wiser on just how far Izuku had been on his special project.
It had taken a long time but Izuku's first Gauntlet prototype had been assembled and built before Katuski's tenth birthday. It was a secret gift (not exactly as he had been preparing Katsuki for the gauntlet for a long time) and he knew Katsuki would love them. He had taken Katsuki out to the beach like usual so that they would be capable of using it out of the public eye with a mass of garbage guarding them.
Katsuki was giddy the moment he laid eyes on the gauntlet. It was simple in its design; nothing more than a frame with a glove, sleeve, and ignition point out of the palm. He knew his friend had somewhat of a volatile personality (one he had inherited from his mother that Izuku had no idea how it hadn't rubbed off on him) so he had infused a small set of Quirks into the Gauntlet that would match his personality.
The so called Blast Gauntletmk1 was made that day and Katsuki was bursting at the seems to use it. Izuku knew better than to just use it all willy nilly so he had set up an area in their site with as many safety feature that Izuku could set up without Bakugo's help. Both boys had plugs in their ears while Izuku put a protective helmet on Katsuki's head. He then readied a camera before retreating behind a layer of armor made out of an unknown amount of junk that he had turned into a translucent viewing area.
Of course Katsuki was far less worried than Izuku.
"Come on Deku, you're a genius, there's no way this could go wrong." he said, tempting fate. "Kacchan, I'm just scared of what could happen, if one thing goes wrong then there's no telling what could happen to us.". "Fine, so I just have to think about firing and the gauntlet will fire.". "Yes, but I want you to be careful, there's still no telling what would happen.".
Katsuki just grinned before blowing the shield over his face and preparing firing the gauntlet.
Both could just watch for a second as the gauntlet began glowing a bright orange. Then Katsuki was forced to brace his arm as an explosive blast left the ignition source. Both boys just watched in awe as the gauntlet's first test went off without any issue.
Katsuki let out a mad cackle of a laugh as lifted the face shield and looked at the gauntlet. There was a small amount of smoke from the ignition point but nothing else; no damage, no melting, and no burnt skin. "See Deku, it worked you mad genius." he reassured his friend. "I saw Kacchan, get ready to fire again." Izuku advised.
Katsuki just grinned madly as the two of them spent the most of the afternoon firing off the gauntlet.
Bye the time the two returned home the gauntlet was smoking hot and smoldering a bit.
The next bit of drama would be the discovery of another boy. The duo had been back to the beach several times and Izuku was working on a pair of upgraded gauntlets. Katuski was hauling more trash around to build up more muscles and make the beach a bit cleaner.
Then they heard shuffling in the pile.
Both boys turned to the source of the noise and made their way towards it. Izuku had a small pipe in his hands while Katsuki took the Blast Gauntlet. Wading through the trash with their weapons ready the pair found the source of the noise.
A boy, no older than either of them, was laying down on an old mattress near the top of the pile. He had purple hair and was much thinner than either of them. The boys exchanged glances before Izuku spoke; "Kacchan, can you watch him while I go get Auntie?". "Alright nerd, but be fast about it." was the reply.
Katsuki just watched as Izuku was shrouded in smoke and disappeared. He then turned to the sleeping boy and huffed. The condition he was in was just horrid; he was quite malnourished and there was bruising scattered along his body. The first boy either of them meet that wasn't themselves and his condition was just unsettling.
Then Izuku returned in a puff of smoke with Mitsuki in tow. She was quick to gasp at the boy's condition before turning to the boys. "When you said it was serious I didn't think you meant this serious.". "Yeah, we found him like this auntie.".
Then the boy woke up, and the moment he laid eyes on Mitsuki he began shuffling back, trying to make himself as small as possible and covering his neck. The sight of it just hurt the three before Izuku got close to the boy. "Hey, we aren't going to hurt you." he said with a calm aura radiating in his voice. The boy just looked up and spoke; "promise.". Izuku nodded before the boy shuffled on the mattress.
Mitsuki began inspecting the boy while Izuku assisted her. "Were going to need to bring him to a hospital." was her claim. The boy shrunk back a bit at the mention of a hospital, hurting Mitsuki's heart. "Don't worry the place we're going won't hurt you." Izuku spoke with that same calming aura.
So the boy relented and Mitsuki carried him to the one hospital she knew would not turn them away. After he was checked and Mitsuki was asked to watch over him the doctor informed her of his condition. "You were lucky to find him when you did, any longer and he might have gotten an infection.". Mitsuki nodded before asking a question; "Any idea who the boy's parents are?".
The doctor shook their head before sighing. "No idea, all he told us was that his mum threw him out.". Mitsuki furrowed her brow at this before looking at the boy. "Would you like to stay with me?" she asked him with a kind tone.
The boy ended up having to stay in the hospital for a couple days due to the need to treat his injuries. But when those days had passed they had a new addition to the household.
Shinsou Hitoshi was the boy's name, they had learned it within a couple hours at the hospital. Currently Mitsukis been looking into adopting the boy. He's been getting healthier everyday with a diet selected by the doctors and a small set of vitamins he has to take daily. Both Izuku and Katsuki have been working to get Shinso more comfortable in the home.
Then there was a knock on the door.
A woman with hair as purple as Hitoshi's was waiting outside. Izuku recognized her as the Pro Hero Ventriloquist, though she was currently out of costume. Mistuki opened the door and let her in.
The two of them went to Mitsuki's personal office and began talking. All that could be made out was the increasing amount of yelling coming from the two women before the woman opened the door and walked out in a huff. Hitoshi had shrunk back when he had noticed the woman. She didn't bother looking at the boys as she walked out of the house.
Mistuki left the office with her phone in hand, clearly just finishing the call. "Thank you Hisashi, I'll be waiting.". She put the phone away before turning to the boys. "Hitoshi"- "sigh"- "I'm going to ask you this question, do you want to go back with that woman or do you want to stay here?" she asked. Hitoshi just looked at her for a second before it clicked just why she was asking. He began to tear up; "I want to stay, I don't want to go back to her.".
Mistuki nodded before pulling him into a hug. "Don't worry, I'm getting help from someone, they'll do good and you can stay with us." she comforted the boy. Izuku pulled Katsuki into the hug as he four just held an embrace.
As it turned out, Ventriloquist was Hitoshi's biological mother. And Kuro was back to help Mitsuki with this new case. She gave Hitoshi a comforting look before she began her work.
It was the most stressful situation the family had gone through in a long time. As Ventriloquist's lawyers would fight tooth and nail with Mitsuki and Kuro over the right to take care of young Hitoshi. It was only ended when a detective by the name of Tsukachi was called in and had to confirm what had been gathered from Shinsou himself.
No amount of red tape was stopping the detective with a lie detector Quirk from finding out about what Shinsou had gone through under Ventriloquist's care.
In the end Mitsuki and Kuro were victorious in court and Ventriloquist was left on thin ice in the public's opinion.
The greatest part of it all was when Hitoshi graciously accepted his new name; Hitoshi Bakugou alongside his now brother and new cousin, Katsuki and Izuku.
It wasn't long before Izuku had begun to work on a new item. A strange mask of sorts that was designed at the request of Hitoshi the moment he had discovered Katsuki's gauntlet.
Of course he had been shocked speechless when he was told of Afo. It was impossible for a male to have a Quirk after all. Yet here Izuku was, using a Quirk known as Infusion to create items that essentially functioned as Quirks with amazing results.
They had been delicate when they had taken Hitoshi back to the beach and showed him their set up. The various bits of scrap and trash being used as both workout equipment and the pieces of amazing technology.
It wasn't long before Hitoshi joined their almost daily visits to the beach. Between all the drama of him joining their family and Izuku's so called 'Multi-year educational cram' to help Hitoshi catch up on schooling his life had gotten busy very quickly. Yet out on the beach, everything was nice and slow, calm even.
He was practically speechless when he was given a mask on the one year anniversary of meeting the two boys. Even more so when he first used the mask on a smiling Katsuki.
Izuku Midoriya had made him the best gift he could have gotten, and he loved it.
He loves being a part of this family, and he loved making a mockery of Ventriloquist with his new mask; The Puppet Mask.
So yeah, that's another chapter. Just a warning is that unlike my other fic Grievous Arc where I have a set upload schedule (approximately every week and a half) this fic doesn't have that, so fair warning on an inconsistent upload schedule ahead.
But anyway, hope you all enjoyed, see you next time.
Edit: Thank you Omnipotent X for the news on which was Shinsou's first name. I'm not the best with the way names are used in Japan so I had just stuck with Shinsou.
