Chapter 2: Confusing feelings
"Nice camera you have there" Kim grabbed Basil's old camera.
"That thing, yeah, I used to always be taking pictures of everything but... um... I don't do that anymore"
"Take one of us!"
"Uh!?"
Kim threw the camera at Basil and he catch it, he looked at it for a moment, after all, why not? why not have a photo with his new friend? He extended his arm, he felt Kim's hand on his shoulder, she was already smiling for the camera, he felt something weird but decided to ignore it for now, gave his best smile and took the photo.
Basil and Kim hung out every day for the last 2 weeks, sometimes in the park, sometimes at her house, sometimes at his house. He made sure that she was taking good care of the plant he gave to her, and she was trying to make Basil being able to defend himself, sometimes they would just sit and talk about trivial things and get to know each other better, for two people so different it was surprising how well they got along.
Basil looked at the photo in which the two appeared together and felt something strange, it was not a bad feeling, it was ... a confusing one.
It wasn't the first time Kim made him feel like that and he wasn't sure how to deal with it, so he decided to talk to Sunny, which currently was staying in Kel and Hero's house, he knocked at the door and Hero opened the door.
"Good Morning Basil, you caught us in the middle of a game, if we knew you were going to visit us we would have waited for you." Said Hero with a forced smile.
Things between the two of them had been weird since the confession, but, slowly and steady, things were getting better. With some more time their relationship would fully heal...
Hero let Basil enter the house, he saw Sunny counting fake money and Kel begging Sunny to lend him money, they were playing Monopoly and apparently, Kel was already bankrupt.
"Sunny please, lend me money, I promise I'll pay you back!"
Sunny shook his head and pointed at a big cardboard box with "Losers club" written on it (It was Kel's handwriting and probably his idea). "There" Sunny simply said, and Kel dramatically jumped into the box.
It looked like Sunny wanted to jump into the cardboard box too.
"Hey guys, you mind if we start again so Basil can join us?"
"YES, ANOTHER CHANCE!" Replied Kel triumphant and about to get out of the box.
"W-Wait, Hero, I'm not here to play, I just, I was thinking, I wanted to talk with Sunny in private."
"NOOOOOO!" Kel stayed inside the box, defeated. Sunny got up and went with Basil to the kitchen.
"Did something bad happen?" Sunny asked.
"No, is just, I been feeling weird and I need to tell someone because I don't know what this is but at the same time I don't know who to tell and I don't want everyone to know and, and, and I don't know how to deal with this!" Sunny held Basil's hands, when they were little kids he did this whenever Basil was scared or nervous, it was the same thing that Mari used to do to Sunny, just hold hands and let the other person calm themselves. Basil went quiet for a moment.
"Thank you Sunny, is just... You know I've been hanging with Kim lately, right?" Sunny nodded. "Well I been feeling... things, I don't know how to explain it but whenever I am around her, or when I look at her, even in a picture, my stomach feels weird."
"Your hands get sweaty?" Asked Sunny.
"My hands are almost always jittery and... y-yeah, they get sweaty, whenever I talk to her, I feel like I say nothing but dumb things and she's going to hate me." Lamented Basil.
"Ah, is just that." Sunny calmly went to the fridge and got yogurt, then he check one of the drawers and got a spoon, he ate a spoonful of yogurt, then he pointed the spoon at Basil. "You have a crush on Kim."
"W-W-W-WHAT!? NO I D-DON'T DON'T BE RIDICULOUS W-WE ARE JUST FRIENDS IT MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE!"
"No." Sunny kept eating his yogurt. "You like strong manly girls. You should tell her."
"No Sunny I'm telling you that's not-"
"Close your eyes." Demanded Sunny.
"Uh?"
"Do it."
Basil obeyed and closed his eyes.
"Now think about her, picture her face, you got that, Basil?"
"Yes...?"
"Tell me what do you think of her?"
"Umm... I think she's cute, I like her hairstyle, she's dumb but that doesn't annoys me, I actually like that, she told me that now that we are friends she wouldn't let anyone bully me anymore and I feel safe whens he's around and also... she's very pretty when she smiles."
"Ok, now imagine smooching her."
"WAIT WHAT!?"
"Do it, imagine it."
"..." Basil's face started to turn red.
"..."
"..." Basil involuntarily moved his hands to his cheeks, maybe to cover up how red they were.
"Now open your eyes and tell me, do you want to kiss her?" Asked Sunny, very curious, Basil opened his eyes.
"Well it... it doesn't sound bad." Admitted Basil.
Sunny, who already finished his yogurt, put his hand on Basil's shoulder. "You should tell her... but not now, she's with Aubrey right now, do it in the afternoon, so stay with us and play Monopoly." Sunny left the kitchen.
Basil had two things in mind, the first was about himself, about his feelings and his future... and the second was that he wanted yogurt now, he opened the fridge, but there was none. "Dammit Sunny, you ate the last one."
