Kara woke up next morning in a pair of strong and warm arms, realizing they were Barry's. She opened her eyes and saw Barry, his face once again inches away from hers, keeping her close to him as he slept soundly. She blushed inwardly at how close she was to him, but also slightly happy. She hadn't felt like this in several months, this anticipation, the butterflies in her stomach. She couldn't be… could she?

Presently Barry stirred, opening his eyes. He felt his hand on Kara's waist, another between her cheek and the pillow. He saw Kara looking at him again with her bright blue eyes, the eyes that mesmerized him so. He felt fuzzy, the way he'd felt when he was eleven years old, crushing on Iris. This couldn't be…

They inched forward slowly, closer and closer. Their lips hovered, bare millimeters from one another, their eyes boring into each other's. Another millimetre closer, and…

The door to Kara's apartment thudded with a knock. It shook the two out of their trance, and they literally sped out of the bed.

"It's Alex." Kara said, sheepishly, blushing furiously.

"Right, well… go ahead." Barry said, in a similar state himself.

Kara went and opened the door as Barry walked into the living room, and saw a woman with red hair in a leather jacket, who looked just a tad bit older than Kara.

"Barry this is Alex. My sister." Kara introduced, since the two had never actually met.

"Nice to meet you, Barry." Alex said, offering Barry a handshake.

"Nice to meet you too, Alex." Barry responded.

"I kinda need a minute with my sister, okay?" Alex said, pulling Kara away into the kitchen.

"Sure." Barry said as he went and sat on the couch, checking the channels.

Alex made sure they couldn't be heard by Barry, before beginning, "Did he stay the night?"

"Uhh… he's stayed two nights, and he will as long as he needs." Kara said defensively.

"That's not the point and you know it. Let me ask him." Alex said, turning to exit the kitchen and head straight to Barry, only to be stopped by Kara.

"You will not!" Kara said, pulling her back.

"I didn't even say what I was going to ask. Oh my… you're crushing on Barry!" Alex squeaked.

"Alex shut up!" Kara said, shushing her sister.

"Wow! But wait, doesn't he have a girlfriend already, no fiance?" Alex asked.

"They broke up. Some time ago. Things were starting to get rough, so he thought he'd come stay here for a while. Get a vacation." Kara said.

"Oh. Well, I have to tell you, even when you were opening the door for me, his eyes were on you. I totally think you should go for it." Alex said excitedly.

Kara blushed but thought about it. She did love Mon El, still, but there was no chance there. Mon El was married. She was the one who had to move on, because Mon El'd had seven years to do so, and he did.

Then she thought about Barry. The man who'd saved her from falling down a building and basically outing her identity to everyone on the street. Of course to her she'd just been a girl in mid air, half unconscious. She thought about how supportive he'd been, how he'd already accepted her being an alien within seconds, something most people she'd known in her life, including her own sister, had found difficult. More than that, he'd even found it fascinating, cool. And she remembered the way the looked at each other when he first brought her an ice cream at super speed, or when they went for donuts the first time he'd mentioned his incredible calorific needs. Or how they'd looked at each other this morning when they woke up.

Kara instantly blushed, shaking her head a little.

"Someone's in deep thought. Must be nice for a change, huh?" Alex's voice broke her stupor.

"Shut it, Alex. But also, thanks." Kara said lightly.

"Anytime." Alex replied, giving Kara a small hug. "I'm heading out, Barry!"

"Already?" Barry replied from the couch.

"Yeah… I've got a thing. See you." Alex said, before leaving.

"Well everything okay?" Barry asked Kara as she came from the kitchen to join him on the couch.

She thought about telling him. Telling him that she was falling for him slowly, but she was too embarrassed to say anything.

"Yep. All good." was all she could manage.

"Alright then. Well let's get some food, fast. On the Town is up next." Barry said, clearly excited.

"What? Let's go!" Kara said, feeling it herself. It was Frank Sinatra time.

.

.

The two heroes spent the whole day indoors, watching musicals and eating, never moving from the couch, Kara's head on Barry's shoulder and his arm around her.

However, all this time, the same thought was going on through the back of their minds.

"Hey Kara…"

"Hey Barry…"

The both of laughed shortly, before Kara said, "You go first."

"Kara do you… I mean… do you think what we have between us… it's purely platonic?" Barry barely managed to ask, his voice barely a whisper.

Kara's heart skipped a beat. Did he just ask that? Now was her chance to tell him! But what if he didn't feel the same? She didn't want to lose his friendship too. She couldn't after everything-

"I'm sorry… I probably ruined it all and made you too awkward… I can leave if you want-" Barry began again, stammering.

"No…" Kara stopped him, grabbing onto his hand. "Don't go…" that's when she realised, she could no longer hold her feelings in. She'd controlled herself for far too long, in consideration for Iris, for Mon El, for everyone. No more. She was going to tell Barry.

"Barry I think… I think I'm falling in love with you. And it isn't just now… I've had feelings since you saved me from that fall off the building, the first time we met. But you'd go back to your Earth and I'd stay in mine and… but it's different now. I don't know if you feel the same, and if you don't, I-" she was cut off by a finger on her lips. Barry's.

"Kara… I'm so glad… because I feel the same way. I would really like to be with you. Even if we live on different Earths, I'm sure we can work things out this time around. Things aren't the same." Barry said.

Kara nodded, a little too much as is habit for her. "I'd like to try. With you." She said, gazing into those deep emerald eyes of Barry's.

Barry nodded slightly, still staring at Kara. Then he surged forward, meeting Kara halfway as their lips met, and they kissed each other passionately. Barry wrapped his arms around Kara, as she cupped his face and pulled him into the kiss, melting into him. Barry rubbed his hands across her back, sending chills down her spine. The sparks they felt had nothing to do with Barry's power, but rather the fire inside them, the love they felt for each other. They finally broke apart, breathless, looking at each other warmly. Kara hugged Barry, tucking herself below his chin, feeling tingles in her stomach. Barry held her, keeping her close, as if some unknown force threatened to separate them. Of course nothing of the sort happened, but… Kara's phone rang, stunning the two momentarily.

"Sorry." Kara smiled awkwardly as she picked it up.

"Kara! Alien robbery. Looks like another Helgrammite." Winn's voice rung through the phone. Kara groaned.

"I'm on my way." Kara said, reluctantly. "I'm sorry Barr." She said, hanging up.

"Hey, our work's never done. We'll have plenty of time to pick this up." Barry said, kissing her forehead.

Kara giggled a little, then got up and switched to her suit. She turned to see Barry in his suit as well.

"What?" Barry asked. "You didn't think I'd let you go alone, did you?"

Kara smiled. "Wouldn't dream of it." And with that, the two heroes sped off.

.

.

"Remember, Barry, he's weak to the stingers he shoots out, but don't get hit by them. The poison is really powerful." Winn instructed Barry as he ran, Kara flying overhead.

"We're here." Kara said as they stopped at the crime scene, as the Helgrammite was stepping out into the street with two big bags.

"Hey buddy!" Barry called out to the Helgrammite. "We're gonna need you to return all that."

Kara landed behind him, making the perp turn, looking both ways to stay aware. He then dropped the bags and his mouth opened up, revealing his nature.

"That's gross, dude. That's like some Resident Evil stuff." Barry said.

"I know." Kara said, disgusted herself. Having faced one of them doesn't really fix the whole open jaw thing. "Alright you asked for it!" She called out to the Helgrammite. She then sped in close to the perp, driving a punch in, knocking him several feet away. Barry quickly sped around him, then threw a punch onto his face, downwards, while he was in mid air from Kara's punch. The Helgrammite ragdolled across the street, hitting the ground face first.

The duo now stood side by side, fist bumping.

The Helgrammite got up, his mouth unhinging wide open again, and he shot out a volley of stingers at the heroes. Kara flew off, avoiding them altogether, while Barry could literally see them fly by him in slow motion, easily dodging every projectile that came his way.

Barry went around, taking a wide arc path as he came in full speed and punched the Resident Evil knockoff, as Barry would put it, square in the jaw. The Helgrammite swung around in air, before landing on his back, a couple feet away. Barry quickly put some distance between himself and the alien, then started running in circles, before gathering up enough charge and tossing a bolt of lightning at the alien. Now lightning is different from most other attacks, in that no matter how tough or indestructible the body is, it will creep into the nervous system. Unless there is something specifically protecting it, most people get knocked straight out. Needless to say, this Helgrammite had no countermeasure of the sort, although he was tougher than most. The bolt sent him into a vicious seizure, before he collapsed unconscious.

Kara landed, her eyes wide. "I wish I could throw lightning. It'd make my job so easier."

"Well you gotta save some cool powers for the rest of us." Barry shrugged. "I'll get this guy to the DEO. You check with everyone here, make sure nobody is hurt."

"You got it." Kara nodded, walking over to the civilians, as Barry picked him up and sped straight to the DEO, putting him in a containment unit.

"Job well done, Mr. Allen." J'onn said, coming up to him and offering him a handshake.

"Dude lightning is so effective. A direct attack to the nervous system. " Winn said excitedly, nerding out.

"It didn't work on Kara when she went berserk from the Dominators' mind control." Barry said, suddenly curious himself.

"Oh… well her cells carry ridiculous amounts of Solar energy. It's possible that the Solar radiation interfered with the electric arcing between the nerves, nullifying the effects the excess electricity would usually have on the nerves." Winn reasoned, thinking.

"Yeah… that's possible." Barry said, when Kara flew in.

"You totalled him, Barry! Even without his stingers." Kara said, as she came and hugged the speedster.

"You could have done that too. I just happened to get the first shot." Barry said, smiling.

"Hey lovebirds. Go home." Alex said, shooing at them from her desk, working on her computer.

Kara started blushing furiously, but quickly controlled herself. "Yes, we will go home. Barry, shall we?" she smirked.

Barry who was avoiding eye contact with everybody, now looked up at Kara. Noticing her smirk, he got some confidence himself. "Yeah let's go." He said, quickly putting his mask on as they rushed off.

Alex smiled at the two from behind them as they sped off, and was about to get back to work, when she noticed Mon El on the balcony, sighing wistfully towards the main entrance through where Barry and Kara left.

.

.

Barry and Kara entered her apartment, holding two boxes of donuts each.

"Boy I'm hungry!" Kara said, hurriedly putting her boxes on the table as she took a seat on the couch. Barry took his place beside her.

"Hey Kara." Barry said. Kara looked at him, seeing he was holding a donut up, a sly look in his face.

"You wanna do it again?" Kara asked, winking.

"Let's do it." Barry said. "Same rules as last time."

"One… two… three… Go!" the two said together, and within a blur, all four boxes were empty, a piece of bread still sticking out of Barry's mouth.

"No way!" he said, swallowing that last piece.

"You went down, loser!" Kara boasted, yelling in Barry's face.

"I demand a rematch!" Barry said, banging a hand on the couch with a plop.

"Aww you will get your rematch, Scarlet Speedster." Kara said, mockingly, as she went closer to Barry.

"Yeah and you'll go down, just wait." Barry said, and then turned to see Kara's face inches away from his. Kara froze up too, unsure of what to do. She'd mistakenly went too far forward in her bragging spree and ended up right in Barry's face. She couldn't move back. She was just too enamoured by his deep, emerald eyes, as they stared back into those bright blue eyes of hers. Barry thought they were a perfect resemblance of the sky, which was funny, because that's where she came from. Well not exactly but… Barry decided this wasn't going anywhere.

He put a hand on Kara's, and another on the side of her face. Kara leaned into his touch, closing her eyes, but only for a second, before gazing back into those emerald eyes again. She intertwined her fingers with Barry's other hand, and then surged forward. Barry matched her movement with his own, and their lips came crashing on each other. It was fervent and passionate, the two pouring all their longing into the kiss. Kara freed her hands and snaked them around Barry's neck as he grabbed her by the waist, taking her onto his lap so she was straddling him. His hands then roamed all over her back, sending chills down her spine, as she broke the kiss and gasped, before leaning in to kiss him again. Barry slipped a hand under her shirt, feeling her smooth skin, when suddenly, Kara stopped, freezing up.

"Wait, Barry, I-" Kara began, stammered. Both of them were breathless at this point.

"What is it?" Barry asked, bringing his hand up to cup her cheeks.

"I… I don't… It's…" Kara tried again, dipping her head low. She didn't know if it was embarrassment, or fear, or whatever else it may be, but…

"Hey," Barry said, pushing her chin up to look her in the eyes, "we can slow down if you want to, okay? I have no problem with that. I know I'm supposed to be the 'Fastest Man Alive'," Kara let a small laugh out, "but it doesn't apply here. I want you to be happy, okay?" he finished.

"Thanks Barr." Kara said, smiling brightly again, before giving him a brief but deep kiss. "Can we go to bed?"

Barry nodded. Kara was about to get off Barry, when suddenly he stood up, with Kara still there, essentially carrying her. Kara giggled and kissed his neck as they made their way to the bed. They slipped under the covers, Barry pulling Kara close as she snuggled into him, fitting snugly under his chin, and they drifted off to sleep in each other's arms.

So, here's the second chapter. Steam AND Fluff here, with some action. No big bad in sight yet, and I don't think I'm going to do that here, but let's see if inspiration strikes and drives me elsewhere.

As always, review to let me know your thoughts or suggestions. I'll see y'all in the next chapter. Peace!
