Ginger Caraway (17) D7F

I wake up to the ringing of metal caused by the sharpening of dull axes and the clanging of metal canisters of food. I remind myself mentally to tell George and Vivi that Hadrian is coming over in a couple of hours. I tug a fleece tunic over my pajamas and tromp down the stairs. I greet the two people that are sitting at the table with a simple nod and fix myself a plate of toast and pancakes that have been reheated. I then speak to my parents and say, "Hadrian is coming over later to help me get ready.

George just grunts, showing how he particularly dislikes Hadrian. Vivi simply replies, "Fine, as long as I can trust you two in a room together. I honestly really don't trust that boy." She is right to be suspicious of our behavior, the reason I invited him over in the first place was to help with my reaping look. I wanted him to help give me bruises so I appear tough when I volunteer.

Then, the doorbell rings. Hadrian is on time as usual, part of a peacekeeper's job. He offers me a charming smile and I lead him upstairs into my room. I say to him, "Can you help me with my plan? I need some pretty fierce looking bruises." Hadrian looks displeased, but replies, "Alright, but tell me if I hurt you too badly, will you?" I nod, but I know truly that I won't tell him, even if it is too painful to me. I will fight through it, otherwise how will I last in the arena?

When we finish up, I pull on my favorite dress, a soft flowy white thing with a matching ribbon to keep my hair in its braid. Finally, I put on my planned token, a bracelet of old worn twine. I think to myself, now it is my turn to show the world my skills.

Christmas Maloney (18) D7M

My mother kicked me out of the house as soon as the bell rang for reaping time. Yet another reason to volunteer today. I walk along all of the other children who are hoping, praying that they don't get reaped, and if they do that someone volunteers.

"Next." I hadn't even noticed that I was at the front of the line for check in until I was interrupted from my thoughts. I barely even notice as the woman pricks my finger and presses it down onto the paper. Then, almost automatically, I walk over to the 18 year old section and await for the reaping to start.

Now that everyone has checked in, now it is time to watch the tape that our escort makes the little kids think is special, but I have always thought of it as stupid and idiotic. After what seems like an eternity, the video finally ends and it is time to select the tributes.

The escort takes her time walking, but practically skipping to the girl's bowl. She reaches a hand in and calls out crisply "Eliana Jadsin!" It isn't even a full five seconds before a loud voice calls out, "I volunteer as tribute!" The girl excitedly walks up to the stage, and introduces herself as Ginger Caraway without a single hint of remorse.

Our escort then quickly walks over to the boy's bowl and calls out a name without hesitation. "Clarence Davenport!" I then swallow my hesitation, and tell myself to be brave. I weakly call out, "I volunteer!" The escort seems surprised, and once I get up to the stage she asks me to shake hands with Ginger and when I do her eyes make contact with mine and I can tell she will be a fierce competitor.

I hope you guys enjoy my first reaping chapter! The next update will be as soon as I can make it when I get some more tributes submitted! Also, make sure you tell me what you think of this chapter in the reviews, your opinions help me improve my writing by a lot. Merry Christmas you guys! (I know it is like the first couple days of December, but I just had to add that!)
