CHAPTER 2:

This year, Arnold and Helga sat in the same group of four, along with Gerald and Phoebe. They sat across from each other, easy for one to just look up and stare at the other, and that's just what they did. They passed a sheet of paper with flirty messages and sent each other longing looks, they even signed "I love you" in asl.

No one knew exactly what they wrote in their notes but they had a clear idea since Helga would giggle in a way you wouldn't believe Helga G. Pataki could. Arnold would have the goofiest grin he could muster and had a bright blush to go along with it.

As for their best friends, it was hard to even ignore them since they were literally next to each other. "Mmm, mmm, mmm! Will these two just save it until recess!" Gerald said. He huffed since it was annoying how they constantly gave each other the 'googly eyes'. "I agree, Gerald. I'm happy for her but this is getting ridiculous!", Phoebe said. She didn't say it with an annoyed tone like the boy across from her but with a gentle one.

She was truly happy for Helga, but with all that giggling she couldn't hear what the lesson was today.

Ever since they became an official couple, Arnold and Helga would simply hold each other's hand and take a lap or two around the recess area, whispering to each other about how great the other was, they looked like the very definition of puppy love. Although it was much more than that, it was so sweet yet, so intimate that the others would feel the need to look away.

Sometimes they would disappear and return after a moment with Helga looking satisfied and Arnold having the dopiest grin imaginable. Then they would continue to whisper sweet nothings and flirt all day long. And lunch was the absolute worst!

"I'll pay for your lunch Helga, don't worry!" Arnold shot a wink at her. Helga fought hard to keep her sigh in but a goofy smile managed to creep out. "Thanks, Football head." she cooed.

"Yuck, why do they have to do that in public!" Sid said while gagging.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

"Groups everyone!"

Arnold groaned, another day with groups. His group was him, Gerald, Phoebe and.

He sighed, and Helga.

Arnold looked to his left to see Helga scowling at him as per usual, "Well? What're you lookin at? Gonna propose?" Helga joked, but inwardly practically begged him to say yes.

Arnold raised an eyebrow, "What?"

Helga rolled her eyes, "Just push the tables together, Football head!"

"What?! Me?! Why can't you help?"

Helga groaned, "Because Arnoldo, if you don't then I'll sock ya!"

Arnold, for the lack of the better word, was irritated. It obviously wasn't a great start off to the day for him, and Helga certainly wasn't helping. Their project was on Harriet Tubman, a Civil Rights figure in the age of slavery.

"Arnold?"

He sighed, "Yes, Helga?"

"Don't pull a Eugene and spill our project on me this time, got it?"

"Whatever you say, Helga." Arnold growled, glaring at her.

Noticing the short length of his pencil, Arnold sighed and got, mostly seeing this as an opportunity to get a break from Helga's wrath.

As Arnold got up, Helga formed a mischievous grin. It was obvious that she was up to no good. She grabbed a whoopie cushion that she somehow hid under her desk, and planted it on Arnold's seat. As Arnold came back to sit down, he was met with an abrubtiously loud sound.

PFRRRRRRRT!

Arnold's face completely flushed as the class erupted in laughter. Helga was the loudest of the crowd, "Gee, Arnoldo, if you had so much gas you should've gone to the bathroom!"

Looking on at the sight, Gerald sighed, "Mmm mmm mmm! Can't she just let him off the hook for once?" he whispered to Phoebe, who sadly shook her head, "I know right, Gerald? Helga might be my best friend, but I also want to listen to the lesson!"

Recess wasn't much more merciful on Arnold, as Helga tripped him a few times when he tried just living his life. She even tied the laces of both of his shoes together!

And lunch was the absolute worst! She would throw food and steal his tapioca pudding, and she was just completely merciful!

Helga was walking infront of Arnold on her way to her lunch table. She smiled out of his sight, 'Oh Arnold!' she thought, 'I want to spend time with you, my beloved! But I'm supposed to hate your guts! Oh, what to do?' she pondered and thought more, thinking of ways to spend more time with her Arnold.

Then a lightbulb moment struck her head. She smiled and just dropped her lunch tray out of nowhere. Arnold raised an eyebrow, "Uh, Helga?"

"Criminy, Arnoldo! Look at what you made me do, ya dolt!"

Arnold looked at her in extremely confused fashion, "M-my faul-"

"Uh, YEAH! DOI! You know what, you should pay for my new lunch!"

Arnold's face completely dropped, "WHAT?! Why?! You dropped it!"

Helga rolled her eyes annoyingly, "Well, you distracted me!"

Arnold's eyes began twitching in anger, he scowled at Helga, "You know what, Helga?! FINE! I'll pay for your lunch!" he growled, stomping his way back to the lunch lady.

Sid looked on in complete horror, "Aw man, why does she have to torture him like that?!"
