Chapter: We Ended In Tears
He has a busted lip that nothing is going to hide so he stays out for 2days. He calls Galena so she doesn't worry, a bullshit excuse about some business deal and he'll be home soon.
Galena lets that one slide too. She tells herself Han wouldn't be cheating. Its way too soon for that sort of drama...
Han agrees he did kinda bring it on himself, this...reminder. He's not his own boss, not when he's paying the mob. Still, that's just how it works. The only problem is keeping Galena out of it when she's too smart not to notice he's been lying. Han worries that's going to change real soon. Dk was clear that Han no longer had the freedom he'd thought. "You work for me."
Galena has the books, she keeps coming up with different numbers and they never match. The obvious options are the ones Galena refuses to entertain. This was supposed to be theirs. Han wouldn't bring a third party into it, not without talking to her...
'Its 50/50. Just us...'
Letty can hear the change in her sisters voice but Lena insists everything is fine.
"Yeah, you sound real happy, Lena." Letty snorts and there's an eye roll that doesn't have to be seen.
"Fine." Galena snaps. "I'm pregnant. Estás contenta?"
There's a long moment of silence and Galena leans her arms on the desk to cradle her head. She doesn't want to admit things aren't all rosy and perfect. If she says it out loud... then it makes what's next real too.
"I'd rather know why you don't sound happy. Don't you want the kid?"
Lena scoffs a laugh. "I've always wanted a baby, Letty..." Being a Mom was never in question. Even Han had been happy at the news. At least, once the shock wore off. They hadnt planned on it happening so soon but they'd had a future one planned. So what did it matter if the baby got here sooner than expected?
"So why aren't you happy?" And all she needs to hear is that Han's fucking this up somehow to get her ass on a plane and get her sister.
"...hormones, Letty." Galena breathes a sigh and wipes her tears. "Some days, I can't even stand myself." Though most times its just Han she cant bare to look at... Not when she has unanswered questions and doubts. "Its normal." Its easy enough to lie. Han's been doing it for weeks...
She's not speaking to him. She hasn't done more than spare him a glance here and there since he walked in the door. 'Another "job" he had to take 3days to get done.' She didn't believe it anyway. So she's not talking to him and he definitely needs to find somewhere else to sleep.
Han walks in to their bedroom. He's pretty sure the not talking means he's in the dog house but he doesn't want to be. The only way back into bed with his girl... is to literally get in it with her. So he's careful, and quiet and very slowly slips into the bed beside her. Galena stirs twice but then Han ends up with his girl snuggling into his side. He watches her sleep. He's thinking about the deal he made to get this business open. 'She's not going to forgive me for that.'
Come morning, Galena stretches lazily, her smile falters and then she realizes why it was comfortably warm and her hand smacks on his chest. Han startles awake, he doesn't even get to say a word before gravity is helping Galena kick him out of their bed and he lands on the floor with a thud.
"Largate con tus putas!" Galena glares at him from the edge of the bed. She grabs the pillow and swings it at his head when he sits up. Han manages to block it, then he yanks it from her grasp. Galena yelps in surprise and her forward momentum has her falling forward. Han catches her but her left knee still smacks the ground hard enough to hurt. Han's worried, thinking maybe its the baby too and gently lays her on her back, with the pillow under her head. "Where? Tell me what to do? Lena?"
"Start with the truth, asshole." Galena glares at him. "Dont!" she warns as he opens his mouth. Han has every intention of lying to her, anything to keep her from going after DK and finding out who the real boss is.
"...I went to a party..." Han holds her eyes. He has to if she's going to believe this. Han needs for her to believe him. "...got drunk and passed out."
Galena shakes her head and sighs heavily. "I don't believe you." Which is why she feels like he's just kicked her in the gut. She's got her mother's voice ringing in her ears, yelling about how she's got no idea what the chino is really like, that its going to end bad, that its a mistake... all the things a mother tells her daughter when she doesn't like the man her daughter falls in love with. 'And what if Mama was right about this?'
Han feels like someone just kicked him in the nuts. He's hoping this isnt real, that he's imagining the angry pregnant girl stalking towards them isnt his wife...
"What the fuck!?" Galena hates what she's seeing. But the shock on Han's face is telling her this is what those lies were covering up. She turned a blind eye to it. She allowed Han to keep lying...
"Lena..." Han moves towards her, cutting off DK and takes her upper arms in a firm grip. "Wait outside-."
"Que yo te espere?" She glares and pulls her arm out of his grip. "So you can lie? Again!? Fucking gangsters, Han!" She smacks him only to have him slip his arm around her waist and literally carry her out of the room.
Galena is pacing the garage floor. She cant believe Han practically shoved her in her car and ordered her to get home.
"Fucking ordered!" She's furious. She's worried. Most of all, she's disappointed... Is this what 50/50 meant to Han? Lying to her? Hiding things?
Han doesn't come home that night. Its late morning when he does show up, he's got a few bruises but that's a small price to pay to keep Galena safe. DK wasn't pleased by her lack of respect.
He finds her in the office. The ledgers on the desk and she's been trying to figure out where their cash ends and the Yakuza cash begins.
Han quietly moves into the office. "This isn't going to work."
Galena looks up, her bright eyes are full of tears again. "This wasn't the plan." It wasn't what they talked about, wasn't what they had planned...
"I know." Han moves towards her and pulls her from the chair.
