Thechaosmaster: Well, here it is, the next chapter of this new story, and yes, you read that title correctly. I decided to break the RUINS into two parts, because I have already reached 8000 words, and I was halfway done with the Ruins.

Blossom: So, there is no Subtitle for this chapter, boss?

Chaos: Nope, I couldn't think of a good one.

Blossom: Are you going to split each location into two chapters, boss?

Chaos: Possibly. Also, the reason I called SOULs Source Of Unknown Luck is, because that's kinda what they are. Plus, it kinda fits the terrible naming convention used by the various places in the Underground.

Blossom: So, this will be following the True Pacifist Rout, than, correct?

Chaos: Exactly. Now, let me explain Chara's 'Demon Face' from the previous chapter. My explanation is that, because Chara's SOUL was absorbed by Asriel, and watched as Asriel was killed by the humans, she gained LV. My explanation is that Chara's LV went to ten, when she watched her brother get killed by humans. But, when she watched as his body turned to dust, she realized that it was her fault that her brother died. But, she tried to stop feeling the resentment she had for humans, because she realized that, if it weren't for her, Asriel would still be alive. But when Frisk made the comment that Az killed Chara, it threw her over the edge, and she was quickly succumbed by her HATE. Now, Chara won't go genocidal, if that's what you're thinking.

Red: Is that everything, boss?

Chaos: Yeah, pretty much.

Blossom: Well, Thechaosmaster does not own the rights to Undertale, or their characters, they all belong to Toby Fox, please enjoy the story.

Chapter 1: Exploring The RUINS PT 1

Once Toriel left the chamber, I sat down where I once stood, and took several deep breaths, getting my heart rate to go down from the horse race that it was on at the moment. Once I was certain that my heart wouldn't explode, I turned to Chara and asked, "So, that was old lady who took care of you after you fell down here, right, Chara?"

The ghost girl was silent for a while before she sighed and said, "Yeah. Her name is Toriel Dreemurr, and… she was like a mother to me, more than my BIRTH mother at least."

I knew it was an uncomfortable topic for Chara to talk about, and while I tried to hold her hand to comfort her, my hand just went through hers, but this did put a soft smile on her lips, so I guess it wasn't a complete loss, then I said, "If you don't want to talk about it right now, you don't have to. After all, we both ended up down here, and I doubt it was for a change in scenery."

Chara lightly chuckled as she shook her head and said, "You got that right, Frisk. No, I didn't come down here for a change in scenery. I won't tell you why, but I was hoping to jump down that hole and die. Well, I did die, but not instantly. I was in so much pain that I thought I would die, but that was when I met As… I met a young kid and he introduced me to Toriel, who is the Queen of the Underground. But what she is doing here in Home now, I don't understand. She and the rest of her family moved to New Home shortly after I fallen down here."

I had to hold back a chuckle as I asked, "Wait. Home and New Home? Who came up with those names?" It was kinda hilarious at how unoriginal these names were.

This seemed to bring another warm smile to Chara's lips as she said, "You can blame those 'creative' names on the King Of Monsters, Asgore Dreemurr. He's as unoriginal when it comes to naming things as he sounds."

I liked this, this small moment between us, but I knew that we had to move soon, but I had to make sure of something, "Neither Flowey nor Toriel seemed to have been able to see you, otherwise they would have said something. And seeing how Toriel pretty much took care of you, I'm certain that she should have been shocked to see you, but, because she said nothing…"

Chara seemed to understand what I was getting at, and she said, "Which means that you really are the only one who can both hear and see me, Frisk."

I nodded at the young girl and said, "Yeah, I guess so." Then I had a sudden thought, "Oh!" Chara looked up at me with a curious expression, then I turned to her and asked, "What if I told Toriel that you're here with me?"

Chara stood up straight and she almost yelled, "NO!" I was almost blown back by the sheer force of her voice when she yelled, and while she didn't show those evil black eyes and melty face of hers, I was still frightened of the anger in her voice.

Then I grabbed my arms and started rubbing them, trying to comfort myself, and trying to avoid eye contact with the ghost girl, that was when Chara said, "I…I'm sorry, Frisk, I shouldn't have yelled at you. That was wrong of me."

I looked up fearfully into Chara's eyes and saw that they were gentle and soft, and not the pitch-black void that I had seen earlier, then I shook my head and I said, "No, it was my fault, I should have realized that something like that would have been a sore subject to talk about. Sorry, Chara."

Chara floated up to me and gave me a small chuckle as she said, "Hey, how about we get through the ruins first, then we can talk more when we're somewhere with a bed. How does that sound?"

I smiled softly at this suggestion and said, "Yeah, that sounds good, Chara. Let's go." I stood up and turned to the area that Toriel went through, and giving Chara one more nod, we both went deeper into the Ruins.

Once we entered through the passageway, we saw Toriel standing there patiently before moving forward towards the real entrance to the Ruins. But something caught my eye, me being curious and wanting to test something out, I glanced over to Chara and thought, 'Hey, Chara, can you hear me?'

A few seconds later, Chara turned to me and asked, "Hey! Not so loud, Frisk! Tori- Uh, I mean, mom could have heard you!"

I held back the giggle for a few moments before I thought, 'Unless Toriel can read minds now, I think we'll be safe for now.'

Chara's eyes widened as she realized what I had just said, "I can read your thoughts?"

I gave her the slightest of nods as I thought, 'It appears that way. Which makes it easier on me to prevent people from thinking I'm a weirdo for talking to myself.'

Chara put her right fist to her mouth as she giggled and said, "That's true. So, I'm guessing you wanted to ask me something, huh?"

I nodded to her and looked at the red leaves between the stairs and asked, 'Yeah, what's with that golden star over there?'

Chara looked over where I was looking and she saw the shining star that was in front of us, and I saw her eyes widen as she said, "That's a Save Point!" Clearly she was shocked seeing this.

I raised my eyebrow and asked, 'Save Point? As in a video game kind of save point?'

Chara nodded slightly and said, "Yeah, something like that, go over and touch the star. It will mark your progress throughout our little adventure from now on."

Deciding that I could humor the ghost girl a little, not really believing in this whole 'Save Point' thing, but I still walked over to the golden star and placed my hand on it. Once I did so, I felt a warm energy flow through me, and I felt recharged. Like I just had a glass of soda.

But that was when I heard Chara's voice humorously say, "The shadow of the ruins looms above, filling you with determination."

I gave her a curious glance, and she just smiled at me, deciding to ignore the strangeness of Chara, I followed Toriel up the stairs and entered the ruins. There was Toriel, standing in a purple-colored room, with six stone slabs and a golden colored switch on the right side of the room, and a sign that I couldn't make out on the left. I looked towards the giant double doors, that had a strange symbol that I feel like I've seen before in one of the ancient tomes, but I can't figure out where.

That was when Toriel's gentle voice spoke up, "Welcome to your new home, innocent one."

I blinked in surprise, 'What? New home?' I asked no one in particular.

But Chara decided to answer me anyways, "Toriel is like that, she pretty much adopted me the moment I arrived here. So, it's no surprise that she would do the same to you, Frisk."

Hearing this left a strangely warm, but welcoming feeling in my heart, but before I could understand this strangely warm feeling, Toriel once again spoke up, "Allow me to educate you in the operation of the RUINS." She then walked on the four stone slabs, that I now know are pressure plates, avoiding the two in the middle before throwing the switch, opening the door.

After she did that, she turned towards me and said, "The RUINS are full of puzzles. Ancient fusions between diversions and doorkeys. One must solve them to move from room to room. Please adjust yourself to the sight of them."

After saying that, she quickly bolted out of the room, and I walked over to the sign on the left but couldn't make out heads or tales of it. One thing was for certain, it wasn't written in English, that's for certain. That was when Chara said, "Only the fearless may proceed. Brave ones, foolish ones. Both walk not the middle road."

I looked at her in surprise and asked, "You can read that?"

Chara nodded and said, "Well, yeah, but that's kinda what happens when you live down here for four years."

I was shocked that she had been living down here for four years until she died, I wanted to ask her more, but I knew that it wasn't time for that yet, so, instead, I softly asked, "Do you think you could read me anymore signs, just so I know what to do, Chara?" Chara looked at me in surprise, and I quickly blushed in embarrassment, as I stuttered out, "Uh, th-that is, if, if you want t-to th-that is. You don't ha-have to, if you don't want to." 'God, Frisk, do you have to be so awkward?' I thought to myself in dismay.

But Chara giggled softly at me as she said, "Oh, you don't have to be embarrassed, Frisky, I would be delighted to help you read these signs. Now then, let's not keep Toriel waiting."

I nodded and quickly followed after Toriel, when we got to the next room, there appeared to be a sign, once again written in that same, strange language, a bridge over water, vines, and another plaque. Toriel then noticed me and said, "To make progress here, you will have to trigger several switches."

Huh, that seemed easy enough, plus I might finally be able to have some kind of fun down here, at least, those were my thoughts until Toriel said, "Do not worry, I have labelled the ones that you need to flip." Then she walked away.

I looked over to the sign and Chara said, "Press A to read signs!"

Me and Chara looked at one another in confusion, having zero clue as to what that even meant, and I asked, 'Uh, what does THAT mean?'

Chara shrugged her transparent shoulders, not really understanding it herself, and she said, "I have no idea. That's a new one on me."

Well, deciding to ignore the strange sign, we walked up to the plaque, and Chara said, "Stay on the path."

I looked over to her and asked, 'Toriel seems to be a little, odd, if she had to put this here.'

Chara nodded and said, "Yeah, mom's a little overprotective, and she never realizes that she's babying everyone."

I had to nod in agreement, then I walked over the bridge and I saw the first switch, and saw that it had writing on it, which Chara had quickly translated, "Please press this switch. -TORIEL"

I had to hold back the minor annoyance that I had felt when I head this, and as I pulled the switch I thought, 'I'm not a baby, I probably could have solved this on my own.'

"Oh, come on, Frisk, let her have her fun. Just play along, who knows how long it's been since a human's been down here." Chara told me with a playful grin on her face.

I sighed and walked over the next bridge and pulled the last lever, before we heard a loud BANG and Toriel said, "Splendid! I am proud of you, little one."

I couldn't deny that soft smile that was on my face when I heard that. I just wasn't used to being complemented like this but hearing the first ever positive thing being said to me, embarrassed the ever-living hell outta me. As I stuttered out, "Uh, Th-than you, Toriel."

Toriel smiled warmly at me as she said, "Let's move to the next room." And without missing a beat, Toriel turned around and left the room.

Deciding to be the curious that I was, I walked over to the other switch and tried pulling it, but it didn't even budge from its spot, and Chara replied with, "This switch doesn't even work…"

I looked towards Chara and said, "Chara, don't take this the wrong way, but, Toriel's weird."

Chara laughed loudly at hearing this and said, "Yeah, I know she is, Frisk. But that's what makes her mom." Chara then had this strange look on her face as she asked, "By the way, you never speak of your parents, Frisk. Don't you think they're worried about you?"

Hearing this question left me in a somber state as I said, "Both of my parents are dead."

Chara gasped in shock at hearing this as she said, "Oh, god, Frisk I'm sorry! I didn't…"

But I shook my head, letting her know it wasn't her fault, and said, "No, you shouldn't be sorry, you couldn't have known, Chara."

It was quiet between us for a moment until Chara said, "Why don't we talk about this later, Frisk. We don't want to worry mom now, do we?"

I shook my head as I said, "Yeah, you're right." And so, we proceeded into the next room, where we found Toriel standing next to a dummy. Then Toriel said, "As a human living in the Underground, monsters may attack you. You will need to be prepared for this situation."

I wasn't too surprised by this, simply because that was how it was written in those old tomes that I read, but Chara gasped in shock as she said, "What!? But monsters, no matter what, would never go out of their way to attack humans! You have to be wrong, mom!"

I glanced at her and thought, 'Chara, it's been a hundred years since you died, things may not be the same as they were when you were alive.'

Chara seemed to hesitate at hearing this, but before we were able to continue our conversation, Toriel said, "However, worry not! The process is simple. When you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT. While you are in a FIGHT, strike up a friendly conversation. Stall for time. I will come to resolve the conflict."

When she said this I heard Chara scoff lightly at that as she said, "But that doesn't help at all, mom. Even though that is the peaceful way to settle things, can't you allow this girl to handle things herself?"

I knew that Toriel couldn't hear Chara, because the goat women said, "Practice talking to the dummy."

I sighed at hearing this, but decided to amuse the goat mom, and walked up to the dummy. When I did, the world went monochromatic again, and my SOUL appeared once more, this time I took notice of its bright red color. 'I wonder if there are any differences between human SOULs.'

But before I could do anything else, Chara said, "You encountered the Dummy."

It was then that I took notice of the four orangish colored "buttons" that appeared before me, each one saying something different, like 'FIGHT' 'ACT' 'ITEM' and 'MERCY' I brought my hand over ACT and saw two new options I pressed Check, and Chara said, "DUMMY- ATK 0 DEF 0. A cotton heart and a button eye. You are the apple of my eye."

I blinked in confusion, but instead of giving Chara a response, I looked over at the Dummy and said in an uncertain voice, "Uh, hi. I'm Frisk. It's nice to meet you. You are the apple of my eye."

That was when Chara cheerfully said, "You talked to the DUMMY… It doesn't seem much for conversation. Toriel seems happy with you. YOU WON! You earned 0 EXP and 0 gold."

I was going to tell Chara to be serious, but Toriel interrupted me, "Ah, very good! You are very good." And with that, goat-mom left the room.

I turned towards Chara and asked in a hushed yell, "What was that about, Chara?"

Chara lightly giggled as she said, "Well, seeing how I can't really do much, I figured I could make things a little more entertaining for me by narrating your battles. Don't tell me that you didn't find that entertaining, Frisk?"

I sighed in defeat, knowing that this was just yet another thing that I would have to get used to as I said, "Just, don't make me say anything stupid, Chara. That's all I ask for."

Chara smiled at me, then she placed her hand on my shoulder, well, at least, she tried to, before having her hand go through my shoulder, strangely, I didn't feel an icy chill run down my spine that I expected to when a ghost went through me. Then Chara straightened herself out, before saying, "Hey, I know what you said about your parents, but…"

I had a sudden uncomfortable feeling in my gut as she spoke, I had the sudden urge to cry, but the painful feeling vanished with Chara's next words. "Why don't you call Toriel mother? I'm sure she would love that."

My eyes widened in shock at what I had just heard, and, not knowing if what I heard was true, I asked, "What, what did you just say?"

Chara looked down at me with a sympathetic expression that looked to be filled with concern, and something else as she said, "Frisk, I know that whatever kind of life you lived up there on the human world wasn't pretty. Because I doubt that you would be down here if that wasn't the case. And because you never knew what motherly love was like, I think it would make you feel a whole lot more comfortable if you called Toriel 'mom.' So, how about it, Frisk?"

I was silent for a long time, not sure how to take this, but, this warm feeling in my chest felt, nice, and I felt tears building up in my eyes as I said, "I think… I think that I would love that, Chara."

Chara smiled at me as she said, "Atta girl."

I smiled warmly at Chara and asked, "But, wouldn't you get jealous, Chara? She was YOUR mom once, right?"

Chara sighed and said, "She was my adopted mother, Frisk. And besides, I'm dead. While I would love nothing more than to be able to be held in her furry arms again, I can't. And besides, I don't want to make her sad by having her know that I'm here. That's why I don't want you to say anything, Frisk. Do you understand?"

I nodded at her, but I softly frowned as I said, "But, it's just not fair, you deserve to be happy as well, Chara."

Chara moved in front of me as she said, "Frisk, you're such a sweet young girl, and I AM happy." I looked up at the ghost girl in confusion until she said, "I don't fully understand why I have been brought back as a ghost but seeing you happy makes me happy."

I looked up at her in surprise, then I asked, "Really?"

Chara nodded at me and with that gentle smile of hers, she said, "Really." She then had a look that told me she had a sudden idea pop up into her ghostly head as she asked, "Now then, how about we work together to get through the Underground? What do you say? Partners?"

She extended her fist to me, that soft smile of hers made me feel funny in my chest, but I feel that this partnership will be worth the while, and so, I extended my own fist to just barely touch hers and I said, "Partners." A bright smile on my face.

And so, with a new found partnership, we proceeded to enter the next room, where, Tori- where mom, was waiting for me. I am still uncertain on how to deal with this. But, once Tori- mom, saw me, she said, "There is another puzzle in this room… I wonder if you can solve it?"

I looked around at the long hallway that we were in, and besides the green vines that seemed to stretch out forever, there wasn't many other colors, besides the light pink floor that seemed, odd.

As we followed mom towards the other side of the room, a large frog jumped out in front of me, making me jump back in surprise, it happened so fast that I didn't even realize that I was in the monochromatic world. At least, not until Chara said, "Froggit attacks you!"

I take this time to press the 'ACT' button, and select the 'Check' option, then Chara said, "Froggit- ATK 4 Def 5. Life is difficult for this enemy."

I was going to ask what she had meant by that, when mom walked up next to the Froggit, and glared at it, I felt a dark chill run down my spine when I saw that glare, I swear, it feels like death is reaching into my SOUL and was squeezing it tightly.

Once the Froggit left, Chara cheerfully said, "YOU WON! You earned 0 EXP and 0 gold."

I was going to ask her what EXP means but decided against in and walked up to the plaque where Chara said, "The western room is the eastern room's blueprint."

Hearing this made me realize that the floor's light pink color was the answer. I turned around and stared at the pink tiles, trying to memorize the pattern, and once I believed that I could do it, I turned back to face, I guess I should start calling her 'Goat Mom' now, and nodded.

Once we arrived at the eastern room, I saw that it was filled with spikes, I gulped nervously for a moment, before deciding that I was ready, but just as I was about to step forward to test myself, Goat Mom turned to me and said, "This is the puzzle, but…" She then extended out her hand and said, "Here, take my hand for a moment."

I really didn't want to, however, I loved doing puzzles, and I really wanted to test myself, but before I could argue, Chara looked to me and said, "Frisk, she's just being overprotective. Don't be mad at her, that's just what mothers do, just let her have this moment, okay? She's probably been so alone for so long, the least you can do is let her have this kind of moment, can't you?"

I didn't really want to, but, Chara seems so desperate to make Goat Mom happy, and she has been helping me out since I got here, so, I might as well do this. I sighed and thought, 'Fine. But I am only doing this because you asked me to, Chara.'

Chara seemed to smile brightly at this, and, with a very reluctant move, I grabbed Goat Mom's hand, and she led me through the puzzle, while we moved I watched as the spikes retreated with each step we took, well, some went down, others did not. I was really interested in this puzzle, and I really wanted to know how it worked.

It wasn't long before we had made it to the other side of the room, that was when Goat Mom said, "Puzzles seem a little too dangerous for now."

And I grumpily thought, 'Then why did you ask if I could solve it, if you weren't gonna let me attempt it in the first place?'

But before I could voice my question, Goat Mom was already out the door, that was when I turned back to the puzzle, and in a moment of annoyance, I walked back to where we started out, following the same path that Goat Mom took, before returning to the exit, where Chara seemed to be smiling at me and asked, "Are you happy now, Frisk?"

I folded up my arms in annoyance and said, "Not really, Chara. I wanted to solve that puzzle myself. Doing it now, after it had already been solved, takes all the fun out of it."

Chara seemed to glide across the floor as she asked, "I didn't know you liked puzzles, Frisk."

I turned towards Chara and said, "Of course I like puzzles, Chara! While some may say that they're time wasters, and not very 'lady like,' I happen to find them both highly enjoyable, and a great way to test my intelligence. Is there anything wrong with that, Chara?"

The ghost girl shook her head and said, "Not at all, Frisk. You just didn't seem like the kind of girl who enjoys mind benders, plus…uh, how old are you, Frisk?"

I raised an eyebrow at this question, and asked, "Why does it matter, Chara?" Then I had a very, flirtatious, idea popped into my head as I cutely asked, "You thinking of asking me out, beautiful?"

Chara's rosy cheeks turned a deep scarlet red, as she turned away in embarrassment, and she said, "What!? NO! I was just…"

But I laughed at her cute reaction and said, "I'm just messing with ya, Chara." I saw how her cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red, then I sighed, as I rubbed the tear out of my eye and said, "For your information, I'm eleven years old, but I'll be turning twelve in about a week. Why do you ask?"

Chara looked down at me in interest, as she was finally coming down from that embarrassment she was on and she said, "Well, I was just wondering how old you were, Frisk, that is all."

I nodded, even though that I figured as much, heh. I will admit, Chara is cute when she blushes like that. It was only recently that I found myself attracted to girls more than boys, of course, that was another reason why I decided to run away from the village, homophobic bastards. When I first started to notice my interests in girls, I went to the matron to seek advice about what I was feeling, and lady went ballistic about how those kinds of relationships were a sin, and that those who have same sex marriages are doomed to burn in hell for all eternity.

As I was reliving my past, I didn't hear Chara calling my name until she literally yelled my name out, "FRISK!"

I jumped five feet into the air before I fell onto my butt, and looked up at Chara, who was looking at me in slight worry and I asked, "Chara? What was that for?"

Chara looked down at me and asked, "Me? You're the one who decided to go off thinking into another world!" Ah, that makes sense, she was just worried about me.

I stood back up and said, "Sorry, Chara, I got lost in thought."

Chara looked at me in slight worry as she asked me, "You want to sit down, Frisk? You look tired."

I knew she was right, but I wanted to keep moving. I shook my head and said, "No, the longer we wait here, the more likely it'll be that Flowey returns. And he's the last thing I want to see right now."

Chara reluctantly nodded, then we both walked into the next room, where Goat Mom was waiting for us, well, for me, because she didn't even know Chara was with me. Then Goat Mom said, "You have done excellently thus far, my child. However… I have a difficult request to ask of you?"

'Oh, god.' I thought to myself. 'Don't tell me she's going to ask me to run through fire or anything."

I heard Chara laugh at me as she said, "I don't think mom would do something like THAT, Frisk." I breathed in relief, at least until Chara asked, "By the way, why do you keep calling mom, 'Goat Mom' you should just call her mom, like I do, Frisk." Before I could answer her, Goat Mom, "There you go again."

Ignoring the ghost voice for the moment, Goat Mom said, "…I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself." Wait, what? "Forgive me for this." Then she ran ahead of us, only to hide behind one of the stone, or are they made of quartz, pillars.

I looked over to my ghost partner and asked, "Uh, is she for real right now?"

Chara could only nod in response. I sighed in annoyance, Goat Mom's a wonderful lady, but I wish she didn't treat me like I was still in diapers. "Whatever." I said in annoyance and walked down the straight and narrow hallway, which I couldn't even get lost in, even if I tried. Once I got to the pillar that Goat Mom was hiding behind, she popped out and said, "Greetings, my child. Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the whole time."

'Yeah, no kidding, lady. You can stop treating me like a toddler now. Hell, a toddler would have been able to figure out where you went.' I thought to myself.

"Thank you for trusting me." Goat Mom told me with that bright smile on her face.

I forced my own smile as I thought, 'Now, if only you'd trust ME to take care of myself.'

But that was when Goat Mom said, "However," Oh, no, what is she planning now? "there was an important reason for this exercise."

'Exercise? How was this an exercise? Toriel, mom, I know you mean well, but you need to stop treating me like I'm a baby.' I thought to myself.

"It was to test your independence." Goat Mom told me, that same motherly smile still plastered on her face. I really wanted to accept that motherly approach that she was giving me, but I also wished she'd stop babying me. Then she said, "I must attend to some business, and you must stay alone for a while." Okay, I was starting to get annoyed with this women, that was when she said, "Please remain here."

Wait, what? 'You just went the entire Underground holding my hand, and now you want me to stay here by myself? I thought you wanted to protect me.'

Then Goat Mom said, "It's dangerous to explore by yourself." That was when I saw a light bulb appear above Goat Mom's head as she said, "I have an idea. I will give you a cell phone."

'It's dangerous to go alone, take this cell phone so that you may call on me to help keep you from learning how to be independent.' I thought to myself in mild humor, which got a chuckle out of Chara.

"If you have a need for anything, just call." Goat Mom said as she handed me phone, it looked a little, weird, but, better than any phone I have ever seen on the surface. "Be good, alright." And with that, Goat Mom left me alone with no one else but Chara.

I turned to Chara, who looked at me and suggested, "Why don't you call her on the phone, and call her mom? I bet she'll be so happy to hear that."

I sighed and looked at the phone, before opening up contacts and selecting TORIEL, before putting the phone to my ear, then I heard her ask, "This is Toriel."

I swallowed my nervousness before I said, "Hey, uh, mom." I was starting to get embarrassed at this, mostly because I had never called anyone mom in person before. I used to see the matron as an elder sister, until I revealed my sexuality to her, and she broke my heart.

But, instead of harsh words like I was expecting, instead I heard the surprise in her voice as she said, "Huh? Did you just call me… 'Mom'? Well… I suppose… Would that make you happy? To call me… 'Mother?'"

"More than you know." I said softly to the goat lady. Although, I don't think she actually heard me.

"Well then, call me whatever you like!" And then, she hung up, and I was left looking down at the phone.

I then turned to Chara, who seemed to be smiling brightly at me, then she said, "See? Didn't I tell ya it would make her happy?" I silently nodded in agreement, then she asked, "So, how do YOU feel, Frisk?"

I turned to her and said, "It felt, odd."

She looked at me in surprise as she asked, "What do you mean, Frisk?"

I looked at her in her eyes and said, "Exactly that, Chara. Weird. I…" I stopped talking right there, not knowing if I felt comfortable telling this to Chara, but I needed to. "The truth is, I… I never had anyone to call 'mom' or 'dad' Chara."

I watched as Chara's eyes widened in shock as she remembered that I was an orphan. Then she ran up to me and tried to hug me, but she just went through me, and she said, "I am so sorry, Frisk. I completely forgot!"

I shook my head and said, "No, don't worry about it, Chara. Really. It's nothing."

But Chara wouldn't drop it, instead she said, "No, Frisk! I'm supposed to be your partner, and I go and make you feel miserable. Well, from here on out, I will be the best partner that you can ask for."

I felt like crying, no one has ever been this caring about me before, it felt, very nice, I rubbed my eyes with my shirt and said, "Thank you, Chara. No one has ever been this, generous to me. Thank you."

Chara smiled softly as she extended her fist, and I brought mine up, and we had a weak fist bump, and she said, "Now then, do you want to wait for mom to get back, or explore on our own?"

I smiled softly at her and said, "Lets see what the Ruins have in store for us, shall we?"

Once we stepped out into the next room, my phone suddenly started ringing, I answered it and mom's voice came through, and she asked, "Hello? This is Toriel."

"Yeah, no kidding, mom. You're the only number we have right now. Who else would be calling us?" Chara asked sarcastically.

Luckily, mom didn't hear her, instead she asked, "You have not left the room, have you?"

Me and Chara looked at one another in surprise as I thought, 'How does she know that!?'

Before Chara could answer me, mom said, "There are a few puzzles ahead that I have yet to explain. It would be dangerous to try to solve them yourself. Be good, alright?" Before I could even respond, mom hung up on me.

I put my phone away and turned to Chara and said, "Chara, no offense, but seriously, your mother is weird."

Chara giggled at me as she said, "That may be true, but that's part of her charm."

I then asked her, "How did she even know we left that room?"

Chara shrugged at me and said, "Mother's intuition, possibly."

I nodded, then I noticed another one of the 'Save Points' and walked up to it, and I felt a small recharge, then Chara said, "Playfully crinkling through the leaves fills you with determination."

I gave Chara a playful glare, which she returned with a gentle giggle, before I ran into a strange looking bug like creature, then Chara said, "Whimsun approached meekly!"

I went to ACT and selected Check, and Chara said, "Whimsun – ATK 5 DEF 0. This monster is too sensitive to fight…"

The Whimsun then said, "I'm sorry…" Before I was surrounded by bugs that didn't even touch me.

I decided to try to console the poor little guy and I said, "He…"

But before I could even talk, the Whimsun ran away, and Chara said, "Halfway through your first word, Whimsun bursts into tears and runs away. YOU WON! You earned 0 EXP and 0 gold."

I blinked a couple of times before I said, "Well, I didn't see that coming." I turned to where the 'Save Point' was, and saw a hallway, I walked inside and saw a bowl of candy with another sign on it.

I walked up to the bowl and Chara said, "It says 'take one.' Take a piece of candy?"

I nodded and grabbed a piece of candy, then Chara said, "You took a piece of candy." I reached into the bowl and Chara asked me, "Take another piece of candy?" I nodded and grabbed another piece of candy, and Chara said, "You took more candy. How disgusting.."

I looked at her and saw that she was smiling at me, then I said, "Maybe I want to feel like scum, Chara."

Me and the ghost girl looked at one another, before we started laughing at each other, then I said, "Well, enough taking candy, let's get exploring before mom realizes I left that room."

As we left the room, another Froggit jumped in front of me, initiating another FIGHT, which Chara narrated at "Froggit hopped close!"

I selected ACT and deciding to try something different, I chose to compliment Froggit, then I said, "You have such beautiful eyes."

And then the Froggit, wait, is it blushing? Okay, I am completely at a loss here, but I was SPARED from my confusion when Chara said, "Froggit didn't understand what you said, but it was flattered anyway."

I then turned to Chara and asked, "Now what am I supposed to do?"

Chara pointed towards the Mercy button and said, "What do you think?"

I blushed in embarrassment, then I hit MERCY, and selected Spare, then I said, "I have chosen to SPARE you."

Then Chara smiled brightly and cheered, "YOU WON! You earned 0 EXP and 2 gold."

Once the Froggit left, I turned to Chara and asked, "Hey, Chara?"

The young specter turned to me and asked, "Yes, Frisk, what is it?"

I pulled at my shirt collar and asked something that I have been wondering. "What's EXP? I've heard you say it a few times now, but I don't understand it. Is it, experience points?"

Chara's eyes widened as she said, "NO!" I jumped back a few inches, and Chara shook her head as she said, "Sorry, Frisk but, *sigh* EXP, just like LOVE, is an acronym. It stands for Execution Points. Every time you kill a monster, you gain EXP, and if you gain enough of it, you gain LOVE. And the more LOVE you have, the easier it is for you to inflict harm on to others. Making it easier for you to kill monsters without feeling guilt. Because that is what LOVE does to you. So, Frisk, whatever you do, don't gain ANY EXP, no matter what. Okay?"

I sighed sadly as I nodded and said, "Yeah, I understand, Chara." Then we went into the next room, and saw a cracked floor, I turned to Chara and asked, "Uh, is this safe?"

Chara looked over to the cracked floor, then she said, "The floor will give way the moment you step on it, but, if I know my mother, chances are, you'll land on something soft."

Deciding to trust the dead girl, I took a careful step onto the cracked floor, and it gave way almost immediately, and I fell down with a loud cry of surprise. And I heard Chara yell out, "Frisk!"

When I stopped falling, I noticed that I had indeed landed on something soft, red, dried up leaves, I looked down at the leaves and asked, "We're underground, how does leaves end up underground?"

Chara floated up to me, yes that's right, floated, she's not touching the ground anymore, then she said, "Well, it could be that the leaves come from a tree near the surface, or something like that." I didn't answer her, and instead looked right at her and she asked, "What? Why are you looking at me like that, Frisk?"

I blinked a couple of times before I said, "Haven't you noticed that you're floating now, Chara?"

Chara looked down at her feet, and finally realized that they were not touching the ground. "Holy crap! I'm floating!" She squealed in joy, while trying to get used to flying. She then started experimenting with trying to float higher and higher, and she was just starting to reach the top of the ceiling, she suddenly stopped in place. "What? Why am I not moving?"

I was just as confused as Chara was, then, I decided to go back upstairs, taking the one on the right, and I was just about to go through when Chara yelled out, "Hey, wait! What's going on?"

I turned to the spectral girl and saw that she was moving closer to me, even though she was trying to fly off in the opposite direction. I stopped in my tracks as Chara stopped moving closer to me, while trying to get higher, but not moving. "Chara, what's wrong?"

Chara looked at me and she said, "I can't get any further than this, Frisk."

Okay, that was weird, "What do you mean by that?" I asked her in curiosity.

Chara flew down to me and she had this expression that seemed to be that she had an idea as to why this was happening, and she said, "Frisk, can you summon your SOUL for me?"

Well, that wasn't strange at all. I looked up at Chara and asked, "Can you repeat that? Because I'm certain that I had to have hit my head on the way down, because I think I heard you ask for me to summon my SOUL."

Chara nodded at me and she said, "That is exactly what I said, Frisk. Now, show me your SOUL. If you don't know how, just hold your hand out in front of you, close your eyes and imagine that you're holding your heart in your hands."

Deciding to follow the ghost girl's advice, I closed my eyes, and extended my right hand, and imagined that I was holding my heart. At first, nothing happened, then, I felt a strange feeling wash over me, and I opened my eyes to see my SOUL hovering before me. This was the first time I've seen it outside of a FIGHT, and now that I have, I can stare in wonder at the beauty of it. It was a bright shade of red, almost as bright as my eyes.

But, Chara seemed to have found something, because she said, "That explains everything."

I blinked in confusion, as I asked, "Uh, Chara, what explains everything?"

Chara looked at me, then she pointed to the center of my SOUL and she said, "Look closely, Frisk. At first glance it appears to be a normal SOUL, but in fact, in the very center of it, wrapped around the middle of the SOUL is a dark red line. Do you see it?"

I looked closely at my SOUL, and then, I noticed the line that Chara had told me about, it was so thin that you would have to know what you were looking for in order to find it. I looked up at Chara and asked, "What is that, Chara?"

The dead girl looked at me in my eyes and she said, "That is my SOUL."

I blinked a couple of times, trying to make sure that I wasn't dreaming, then I said, "What do you mean, that that's your SOUL? Humans can only have one SOUL, right?"

Chara nodded at me in agreement, then she said, "It is true that humans are supposed to have a single SOUL. Sometimes, they are able to interact with SOULs of the same trait as their own."

Ah, the traits, I've heard about this. "So, the six well known traits, each one a different color, Cyan for Patience, Orange for Bravery, Yellow for Justice, Blue for Integrity, Green for Kindness, and Purple for Perseverance, right?"

Chara nodded at me, then she said, "Right, those are the six most common traits a SOUL can have, and each one has a unique ability all to itself. Like control over Ice, or Fire, or prevent anyone from running away. But, there is a seventh colored SOUL. The red SOUL of Determination."

I blinked a few times, trying to remember if I had read anything about the Red SOUL, but, nothing. "I've never heard of a Determination SOUL, before."

To which Chara responds with, "I am not surprised, those who possess Determination SOULs are usually born once in a generation. And Frisk, you have Determination."

I looked at my SOUL in wonder, then I asked, "What is so special about Determination SOULs?"

Chara looked down at my SOUL and said, "Those who posses Determination as their main trait, can push the boundaries of the human body, can be pretty much put through hell, and still keep on moving. Determination SOULs… are the only SOULs that can actually… defy death."

I blinked rapidly, because that didn't sound right. "Did you just say that those with Determination can, defy death?" Chara nodded at me and I asked, "How does that even work?"

Chara sighed, and I could tell that she didn't want to explain this, but she took a deep breath, not that she needed to breath at the moment, and she said, "Determination SOULs, those who posses Determination, can will themselves back to life. They are commonly referred to as, the Undying."

"The Undying?" I asked my friend, with a curious expression on my face.

"Yes. They are called that because they have the tendency to, somehow, cheat death." Chara said to me, a far-off expression clear on their face. "They do this by thinking of those they hold deep in their hearts, be it friends, family, loved ones, or even total strangers they have never met, if they are fighting someone who threatens all they care for, and are dealt a deadly blow, they're determination causes their strength to skyrocket, and allows them to, not only defy death, but become something, unmatchable."

I looked over to my SOUL and asked, "And, I have this trait?" I felt a shiver run down my spine at the thought of being able to cheat death. "Guess, even if I wanted to, I wouldn't be able to die." I said solemnly while staring at my SOUL.

"Well, not entirely." Chara's voice cut through my thoughts, I turned to her, and saw that she was looked sad, then she said, "There are only two ways for a Determination SOUL to die. And one is for them to lose belief in themselves. And for them to lose their determination."

"What do you mean by that, Chara?" I asked the dead girl, now getting really worried at what I was hearing.

"Exactly what I said. Frisk. Determination, like all other SOULs draw their strength from their emotion that their trait represents. For Determination, it is a goal, no matter whether is to protect, destroy, to save, or to conquer. As long as Determination SOULs have a goal, they will never be able to be defeated. But, if they lose something close to them, say, a brother, or a sister, or even, a lover, or someone close to them, while they are trying to protect them, then, their will to fight will be lost, and they will no longer have the strength to carry on." Chara said, almost as if she was speaking from experience.

Then she looked up and she said, "The second way for a Determined SOUL to die, is if they wish it. If they truly wish to die, then, once someone strikes them down, their power to resist death, will not activate. And, they will die."

I looked up at Chara, wondering just how she knows this, then I asked, "How do you know all this, Chara?"

She pointed towards my SOUL and said, "Because, my SOUL, is, or WAS determination, Frisk. And it is bound to yours. We are both Determination SOULs. Those flowers that you landed on, that was my grave, and when you landed on it, your Determination woke me up, and the remnants of my SOUL attached itself to yours, allowing me to live after death."

My eyes widened in shock at this revelation. My journey has only just begun, and I have already been hit with the biggest revelation of my life.

Thechaosmaster: Well, this seems like a good place to stop at, doesn't it?

Blossom: So, I see you decided to put your own idea of how Undyne The Undying works, huh?

Chaos: Yeah, but note, the Undying is different between Humans and Monsters. For monsters, it works just like Undyne the Undying. But for humans, it works like the save mechanics in the game. So, while not original, can be used to explain why you keep respawning at the Save Points.

Blossom: You kind of made Frisks past kinda, dark, boss.

Chaos: Well, I kinda had to. I mean, even Asriel asks this very question, why did Frisk come to Mt. Ebott? So, I decided to make it that her village is anti-gay/lesbians, and they tried to force her to think like them. And by having it that Frisk had bright red eyes, (a trait given to her by her Determination SOUL) her desire to learn more about, and sympathizing with the monsters, and her being openly gay in an anti-gay community, as well as being an orphan who's only paternal figure was the Matron, who told her that gay couples deserved to burn in hell. Yeah, that would be enough to make anyone want to run away.

Blossom: It is a different take on many Undertale stories.

Chaos: Yeah, it is. Now, once again, I am in no way homophobic, I have no problems with same sex relationships. I chose Frisk's home to be like that to make her more, would 'tragic' be the right word? Either way, in this chapter I got to show Frisks 'flirtatious' personality. No, Chara doesn't know that Frisk is gay, she just thinks that she's being playful.

Blossom: I noticed that you have made Chara the 'Narrator' for Frisks journey.

Chaos: Of course. I believe that she is the Narrator anyways. Especially when lines like "It's you!" or, "Despite everything, it's still you." Or when you're on the Genocide run (It's me Chara) And when you pick up the locket (Right back where it belongs) So, yeah. Anyways, what do you guys think of Frisk's backstory? Is it good enough? Please don't hurt me -_- … Where are the knives? =)
