The day was bright, the yellow orb beamed in the sky, not a single cloud in sight. Sakura strolled down the street of Konoha admiring the background noise and fresh coffee smells radiating from the stalls. She was currently on her way to her usual hospital shift.
''Sakura!'' A voice yelled in delight. Sakura spun her head around, whilst doing so, her hair turning in tune. The yellow vibrant being that radiates happiness and bliss was jogging towards her. Naruto was a walking sun. Anything in which he bathed his sun in, automatically became happy- he was the epitome of happiness and Sakura wouldn't have it any other way.
Sakura examined him the peculiar man; he became more toned, more muscular, and definitely more handsome.
''Hey Hokage'' Sakura chuckled. Naruto wrapped his arm around her shoulder. When did he become so tall? He's growing in the speed of light. They continued walking.
''Hey, don't call me that, it's embarrassing. I'm not even Hokage yet.'' Looking down at her, he scruffled her hair playfully.
''Tsk, I'm gearing you up for the moment Naruto. And when were you ever embarrassed.'' Sakura retorted looking up at him questionably.
''I've been embarrassed before, what are you even saying.''
''Ah, I see what it is. Hinata's been giving you some of that good good huh, Naruto's becoming a real man.'' Sakura raised her eyebrows playfully, poking his sides. Naruto turned a shade of red at her comment, he widened his eyes in disbelief.
''She popped your cherry, didn't she? You're not a virg-'' Naruto swiftly clasped his hand around her mouth taking Sakura by surprise. He quickly looked around and finally brought his azure eyes to Sakura's.
''Are you crazy? What are you saying in broad daylight?'' He whispered ever so loudly. Sakura grasped his hands and removed it from her mouth. She was enjoying teasing Naruto. He was one of the strongest shinobis; coming across him is coming across death itself, an invitation to the doors of hell, and here he was being shy; the irony is immaculate.
Sakura chortled whilst brushing his hair out of his eyes. She didn't respond, she smiled softly up at him, she loved him very much, so much that he'll ever know. Naruto released her. ''So, I was thinking, this evening we could hang out.'' Naruto tread lightly with this words.
''Yeh sure-'' Sakura replied in a heartbeat. It wasn't anything unusual, Naruto would always crash at her apartment- without permission in most cases- so for him to provide a heads-up was uncanny.
''As team 7.''
The silence was loud. Naruto knew that Sakura was still uncomfortable around Sasuke, but he longed for Team 7, for them to be normal again, for Sakura to be genuinely happy. Naruto knew she was putting some façade and that she wasn't truly in peace.
''Naruto…'' Sakura lost all joy she had at the mention of Team 7; she knew who that would include.
''Just for a while, 1 hour, no – thirty minutes, 15-. '' Sakura fidgeted with her fingers; she didn't want to let Naruto down. He was pleading with sincere eyes; she knew he only wanted the best for her, but she was still hesitant. Sakura released a slow breath.
''I don't want to come across him anymore, and you know that Naruto, you know how I feel.'' She uttered. Why couldn't they accept her wishes? Naruto grasped a hold onto her hands as if she was about to slip away like silk. Naruto suddenly felt apologetic for even attempting to ask her. He knew how she felt- she held hostility against him, and he couldn't blame her.
''Sakura, I- ''. Sakura slipped from his grasp, not wanting to hear anything else.
''I'll be late for work; I'll see you later.'' He could only watch her walk away, and he could only stand in guilt.
She was drowned in paperwork, but she didn't mind. Her mind was safe from drifting off to what ifs and questions. The hospital was understaffed and overfilled with patients; she could only do so much. She looked around the office, again, hit with silence; white noise. Why does silence always seem to follow her? As if it locked itself onto her shadow only to bother her more when she's sullen. Her mind was loud. She shook her head. 'Maybe I should go do some rounds on the patients', she thought absentmindedly.
The day flew by, some patients saved and some regrettably lost. She's been a medic for years, but the sight of losing a patient still shakes her to the core, only to be hindered with nightmares the following days. She strolled down the streets only to find some of the members of Konoha 11.
''Sakura!'' Ino waved. The rest of the members followed Ino's eyesight. Sakura waved back. ''Hey guys! What are you all doing?''
'' They dragged me out so they can eat out.'' Shikamru sighed with his eyes closed. Sakura chuckled.
''Yes! Everyone is here, you will be joining us, no? Naruto and Sasuke are following suite soon.'' Hinata explained.
''Yeah, I think I'm going to have a rain check on that, I have-'' Ino jumped on Sakura. ''Wait, did you think you had a choice in what you say? She laughed triumphally. She head-locked Sakura into the restaurant, not giving her a chance to retaliate. The rest of the teams followed along.
'What am I doing here…' Sakura wondered, clasping her right hand onto her face. She examined the room, the staff set the 4 chaired tables consecutively together making a long row of tables and chairs. The members were seated with their respective team. Sakura was seated in-between Sai and Ino and ahead of her, 2 seats were empty for her remaining Team 7 members.
'It's fine… I don't need to look up.' She thought. ''Are you okay, Sakura?'' Sai placed a hand on her bare thigh and rubbed it slowly. Sakura looked down at the sudden contact. Considering Sai has no strong understanding of human relations and feelings, this was a big leap for him- especially that this could definitely be taken out of context.
''Yes, I'm fine, thank you.'' She removed his hand from her thigh. ''Are you worried about Sasuke's arrival?'' Sakura smiled at his unfiltered tone. No hesitation, as always.
''No, I'm fine.'' Sakura smiled and engaged in the small talk that was possible with Sai. Everyone ate contentedly, laughing at Choji's ability to down large quantities of food, making jokes and overall relishing their time. Sakura felt a bit tipsy after downing a few cups of Sake. This is what she missed this aloof feeling, being casual and having nothing to worry about. She wished she could freeze time in this very moment.
''Sorry we're late!' Naruto stormed in with a slow paced Sasuke strolling behind him. Everyone greeted them cheerfully. Sakura sobered up in matter of seconds and her tranquil state was disturbed.
''Sakura! You made it'' Naruto exclaimed in surprise. He sat down directly in front of her. He furrowed his eyebrow, a bit concerned. ''Yeh, Ino practically dragged me in here.'' She sighed looking up to Naruto then back down to her dish poking around the dumplings.
Sasuke seated himself next to Naruto. His presence too overpowering for her liking. She could feel his eyes boring into her. She refused to look at him.
''- food Sakura?'' Sakura turned at the sudden name calling. ''Huh?''
''I said, do you want to order some more food?'' Sai inquired. Sakura mentally thanked him for the diversion and engaged in a small talk.
