In the morning, the faint rays of sunlight streamed through the window, hitting Bella's face. Stretching, her body protested as if she had slept in the same position all night. Leaving the children's room, she walked warily down the hallway to her own. She opened the door, careful not to make a sound. Edward was lying on his stomach, asleep and still dressed, his hair spread like coppery strands across the pillow, and his slightly parted lips should be anything but so terribly seductive.
She swallowed, hurrying towards the bathroom, mentally shaking off the visual image. Her husband was anything but friendly or cuddly. Hurrying, she immersed herself in the hot water, spreading the strawberry-scented gel, her favourite, all over her body. However, the hot water that always managed to relax her this time failed to do so. As she stepped out of the shower, she cursed not having taken her uniform into the bathroom, so with a sigh, she wrapped herself in a huge white towel and stepped out only to freeze in the doorway.
Green eyes pierced her with their gaze. Edward was sitting on the edge of the bed leaning forward, arms resting on his knees, and again, with that hungry look that threatened to tear her apart. Feeling almost naked before those eyes, Bella turned her gaze away, pulling the towel that covered her tighter around her, she walked past him towards her clothes, hating that despite so many years of living together, he still managed to make her feel that way. She dressed as quickly as she could, feeling watched at all times by the predator she had for a husband. Thank heavens she had ironed the uniform. Just as quickly she finished buttoning her shirt. In front of the mirror, she began to comb her hair with her fingers, glancing sideways at the bed, Edward still staring at her. A shiver ran down her spine, but clenching her jaw, she stopped her body from shuddering. She wasn't ready yet, but she couldn't take it any longer, so without another word and with damp hair, she hurried to the twins' room without once looking at Edward.
"Honey?" Sam shifted in the blankets, putting one arm over his face, shielding himself from the sun. "Baby? It's time to wake up."
Lazily, Sam stood up, his dark hair pointing in all directions in that chaotic way, his little green eyes lost in a fixed point that told Bella she would have to hurry to help him get dressed. Sighing, she made her way to Eli's bed.
"Elizabeth. It's time, princess." She moaned, mumbling something Bella didn't understand, before falling asleep again.
She had to dress them almost asleep, their bodies like those of a small mannequin, her daughter's curly hair today looking like a bird's nest. Bella sighed, finding it necessary to braid her hair, and when she looked at her watch, she knew she would undoubtedly be late for the hospital. Once the twins were dressed in their school uniforms, Bella quickly prepared breakfast, and as Sam chewed absently, he gave her an annoyed look.
"You promised to make waffles"
"I'm sorry honey, we're late"
"No, you don't keep your promises…." He was grumbling when heavy footsteps sounded down the stairs.
Bella bit her lip. She could recognise his footsteps even from kilometres away. Edward appeared in the kitchen doorway, looking stunning in the dark suit that marked his toned body, the wet hair indicating he'd just gotten out of the shower, though he might as well have just gotten out of shooting some commercial. He looked as if he hadn't been partying all night, as if he hadn't slept less than she had. His lotion flooded the kitchen as he entered, his dark eyes softening at the sight of his children. Bella shrieked when hot oil splashed on her, staining her uniform, and bringing her abruptly back to reality. Her reality. Enraged, she began to carve it up almost frantically, hating life. While her husband was the walking disaster, he managed to look absolutely hot, but her? Well, she hadn't even had time to give her dark circles under her eyes caused by the night before a little touch-up.

"Daddyyyyyy!"
Eli ran in his direction, pressing hard against his leg, wrinkling his spotless trousers. Edward sighed, squatting down, trying to put on a half-smile, something that wouldn't make him look like an absolute ogre in front of the children. He was having a hard time managing around them, he felt so out of place.
"Hello, Elizabeth. I'll take you to school today, would you like that?"
"Yes!" she hummed happily
"Why? Mom's already ready… She always takes us" Sam asked, looking at him through those suspicious green eyes.
"Because today I want to do it myself"
And then, he looked to his wife, to see if there was any objection on her part. She raised both eyebrows, looking surprised before she pulled herself together, turning away to continue making breakfast as if she didn't care which of them took the children. She looked beautiful in her fury. Long brown hair spilt down her back, making an incredible contrast to her white uniform. Moments before, he'd had to control himself as he watched her change, her white lingerie could send him over the edge, and he hated the way that fucking skirt hugged her figure. There in the dining room, she looked like an angel, and if it wasn't for their kids, he'd pounce on her and grab her across the table. He had needed her since the night before, always wanted her. Yet she had done something that had never happened over the years: she had rejected him. Arousing in him a kind of monster, suddenly in his veins ran the imperious need to hunt her down.
"I'm ready!" Eli shouted, snapping him out of his stupid daydream, hesitantly extending his hand towards him.
Edward took it silently and they walked out as Sam shouted goodbye, waving goodbye to his mother. He, of course, didn't even look at her again.

Isabella tightened her grip on the steering wheel, she wasn't going to cry, she wouldn't do it again. She concentrated on watching the dreadful traffic, though of course, her mind wandered back to him, particularly Edward's oddly generous act of offering to take the twins. Maybe it was his way of apologising, maybe... not.
She searched in her bag for her phone to check the time and sighed that she had forgotten it, but it was so late that there was no way she could go back for it. When she reached the car park, she quickly got out, but one of her bag's straps got caught on the seat, causing it to fall open onto the pavement, scattering all her things. Bella closed her eyes, pursing her lips in mortification, finally, with a sigh, she tucked her hair behind her ears, bending down to hastily gather her things. She was too clumsy, but in a hurry? She could be quite a calamity.
"Hi, Bells! Late for work?" From the floor where she stood, she looked up only to meet those sapphire blue eyes gazing down at her in amusement, blushing without thinking. James was... well, very attractive.
"A little bit…you know, Sam overslept and I…"
"Edward didn't help you with the kids again?" The blonde interrupted.
Bella bit her lower lip, sometimes she wanted to cut her tongue when she talked about her personal life in excess, but in reality, he was her best friend, a strong support in her life, how could she not?
"Yes. Yes, he helped me. He took the kids this time"
He widened his eyes in disbelief but added nothing more as he knelt down beside her. Once all her things were back in her bag, she walked with James and they entered the hospital where they both worked as nurses.
I love how everyone hates Edward already hahaha. In each chapter, there are clues of what happened between them (and what happens now!). Clues can be small but they're there ;)
So, wow! Thank you guys for the warm welcome you have given to this story. Updates will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays! I might be posting little previews of the next chapter on Facebook.
