Author's Note
I'd just like to warn you guys about something. Although Hatorama will have teammates, don't go thinking that they will be focused on a great deal.
This fic will mainly centre around the ripple effects of his existence. His impact on other people.
Finally, for all those of you who are Team 7 fans, this fic will probably not show them in a good light. Don't get me wrong, I won't go out of my way to bash them, but let's call a spade a spade.
The day's excitement eventually tired him out. While his clones cleaned the house, he had found a training ground.
There he worked on his chakra control, his ninjutsu and taijutsu. After three hours of that, he came back to the house.
He was pleasantly surprised to find that his clones had finished in his absence. One of his clones even had the foresight to prepare him dinner.
Granted, it was only a salad made from the fruits and nuts grown on the grounds, but it was in a large bowl. Large enough to more than fill him.
When he finished, he explored the house. He only focused on the bedrooms and bathrooms. He eventually chose one bedroom for himself.
Creating another water clone, he removed a few scrolls from his person and unsealed the contents. All his clothes and personal effects spilled out.
His clone immediately set to work packing everything away. He himself went to take a shower. After ten minutes of gloriously warm water on his skin, he dried himself by removing all the water from his body with chakra manipulation.
In his room, he put on the first piece of underwear he found and then crawled into bed. Not long after, he was deep asleep. Dreaming of fighting shinobi.
When he woke up, it was to the sound of chirping birds. He got up, and stretched for a bit. When he was properly awake, he made his bed and then took a shower.
When he finished, he dressed himself in a an identical outfit to the one he had on yesterday. Then he made his way to the kitchen. He had the remains of his fruit salad, making a mental note to do some shopping later.
When he finished, he rushed upstairs to quickly brush his teeth. That done, he set out towards the Academy. He made a clone and gave it money to buy groceries On his way, he was stopped by various villagers greetings him.
He replied with a smile and a wave to all of them. After half an hour, he finally reached the Academy. Despite being waylaid, he wasn't late, but only just.
After finding the correct door, he knocked. After a moment, a brown haired Chunin with a scar on the bridge of his nose opened the door. He looked at me. " You're the new student taking the Exam right? I'm Iruka Umino. "
" Yes sensei, I am. " He moved out of the way and gestured me in. After a second or so, the class silenced itself, taking note of the newcomer.
Hatorama himself took in his fellow classmates. His mother had told him how to identify the Clans so he had no issue picking them out.
He noted that out of all the prospective kunoichi, perhaps only two wore practical shinobi quality clothing. The rest wore civilian styles.
He also made note of a boy wearing a ridiculous orange jumpsuit. He stood out not just because of his attire, but because of his chakra. His reserves were enormous! Even bigger than his and he himself had more chakra than most Jounin.
A cough interrupted him. " Class, this is a new student. He arrived in the village today. He's name is uhm..." He trailed off and sheepishly looked at me.
I smiled slightly at him and at the class. " No worries sensei, I didn't introduce myself. I am Hatorama Senju. " As soon as my introduction sunk in, chatter immediately broke out in class.
I saw a second Chunin, this one light haired, come closer. Iruka gestured me to take a seat. As I made my way to the empty seat next to the Aburame, I heard the orange clothed blonde shouting about how he didn't understand what was so special about me.
Another blonde shouted at him. " Idiot! The First and Second Hokages were Senju! He's likely the grest grandson of the First Hokage! The only other Senju left is Princess Tsunade. The granddaughter of the First and one of the Legendary Sannin. Don't you know anything moron?! "
I tuned them both out. I introduced myself to the Aburame who did likewise, as did the girl on his other side. Shino and Yakumo Kurama.
The noise eventually died down as Iruka's head expanded and berated the class. After things settled down, test papers were handed out.
They contained questions on geography, math, history and weapons trajectory. It was ridiculously easy for me. Once that was done, we were told to head outside where taijutsu would be tested.
There we were paired up against each other. I was paired up against the boy in orange. That's when I learnt his name. Naruto Uzumaki.
I quirked an eyebrow. He looked nothing like an Uzumaki. Still, it would explain his chakra. Mother did tell me that great grandmother Mito was a jinchuuriki. Interesting.
When we were paired up, Naruto decided to trash talk. " I don't care who you're related to! I'm gonna beat you here and now. After all, I'm going to be Hokage one day! "
At that declaration I snort. The second Chunin, Mizuki starts the match. " You're gonna have to get in line shrimp. To be Hokage has always been my dream. " Here I decide to channel my mother's cockiness.
I raise a single finger. " This is all I'll need to beat you. " The other students have fallen silent in anticipation though two scoffs could be heard from the audience. They were from the Inuzuka and the Uchiha.
Predictably, my opponent becomes enraged and charges me. Unfortunately for him, not only is he ridiculously slow, after being faced with my mother's wrath on numerous occasions, nothing less than a Kage level shinobi can intimidate me.
For a minute, all I do is dodge. Using only a fraction of my speed, I prove that it's still far superior to his. Then he finally snaps and screams as he charges me.
In an instant I'm before him. Without giving him time to react, I flick his forehead. He flies outside of our circle. " Match Hatorama " says the voice of Mizuki.
Looking around at the other students, I can see they look stunned. I walk out of the circle. Naruto angrily glares at me, which I ignore.
I'm not impressed by the fighting abilities of any of them. I inwardly frown. How can these be the Clan Heirs? They're so weak.
When everyone finishes, we get a break for lunch. Unlike the others, I don't have to go inside to fetch my lunch. Another clone of mine has been sent to buy me takoyaki.
By the time the others stream out, I'm sitting underneath a tree waiting. Most of them spread out in their own cliques. Unfortunately, some head towards me.
Naruto being in the lead. He rudely points his finger at me when he gets closer. " Who do you think you are, asshole. Think you're better than me!? "
I cut him off quickly. " I don't know you so I hardly think anything of anyone here. " My dry tone brings him up short.
That's when the others arrive. The Inuzuka and the Yamanaka. Great. All three loudmouths. Before anyone can say anything else, my clone arrives.
After handing over my lunch, it dispels into a puddle of water. All three gape. It's Ino that asks. " What the heck was that!? "
" It was a solid clone. Water clone to be exact. I have a lot of chakra. My mother decided that learning to make the basic clone was a waste of time. Without good chakra control, if you have large reserves, making basic clones are impossible. "
It's Naruto that spoke then. Or shouted more like. " Whaaaat!? How come nobody told me that! I can't make a normal clone. "
The other two look confused. I decide to answer, just so I can eat in peace. " Look, I have no idea. Why don't you go ask Iruka. "
Surprisingly he listens. In the few seconds the other two have their attention on Naruto, I put them and the puppy under a genjutsu.
Then I leap up into the tree. When they turn around, I'm ' gone '. Confused, they set out to look for me. I smirk as I bite into one of the balls.
" That wasn't very nice of you. " A girl's voice says. My eyebrows climb. She snuck up on me. Granted, I was distracted and she doesn't register as hostile.
Still, she must have Jounin level skill in genjutsu. " They weren't interested in actually having a conversation. You're very skilled in genjutsu..."
She smirked. " You're not the only person that's a credit to their clan, Senju. " Here the smirk fades. She looks vaguely uncomfortable.
" I owe your mother a debt of gratitude. My clan's bloodline ability, the Ido, was impossible to control when I was younger. The Third Hokage proposed that my ability be sealed permanently. "
" That was always the plan. Then a few years ago he came to us and said your mother had contacted him for something. He said when it came to sealing, the Three Legendary Sannin were all skilled in different ways. "
" When it came to sealing techniques to do with medicine and bloodlines, your mother's skill is unparalleled. He sent a message regarding my situation. A few weeks later, she sent a sealing array that grants me gradual access to my abilities. "
" She likely saved my life. She certainly saved the reputation of my Clan. For that you have our gratitude and aid, if you should seek it. " Without giving me time to reply, she leaps off the tree.
I stare after her, lost in thought for a moment, then I continue eating my lunch. Luckily, there is nobody else that tries to bother me.
When lunchtime is over, we get called back into class. Naruto looks even angrier. Iruka looks at the blonde with regret, and fleetingly, Mizuki shoots me a glare.
It immediately arouses my suspicions. I let nothing show however. One by one, we're called to perform the three basic jutsu that's taught in the Academy.
Inwardly, I scoff. What a joke. When it's my turn, I perform all three perfectly. Unlike the others however, when I'm asked to turn into the Hokage, I don't change into the Third.
When the smoke clears, I'm wearing blue armour and a faceguard. White hair shorter and spikier, along with red eyes and pale skin. A few of the students gasp.
An impressed Iruka nods at me and I receive my headband. I return to my seat. As I suspect, Naruto fails. I can feel how he pumps too much chakra into his technique.
When we're dismissed, I hurry outside. Then I cloak myself in a genjutsu. Only Yakumo notices, but she doesn't react and heads home.
I see Naruto heading over to the swing under the tree and I follow him. I quickly scale the tree and wait in the shadows.
A few minutes later, Naruto is alone in the Academy grounds. Or so he thinks. I narrow my eyes as I feel Mizuki approach. I listen in silence as he tricks a gullible Naruto into committing treason.
When Mizuki leaves, I surreptitiously follow Naruto. Half an hour later, I'm stunned. He actually did it. I follow him unnoticed into the forest surrounding the village.
There I watch him poring over the scroll. I don't take it just yet however. With one ear on his mutterings, I create a triple layered genjutsu over the clearing, just in case.
Once he's decided on the shadow clone and has memorised the instructions, though not the capability of the clone, I act.
Using another genjutsu, this one to fool sight and touch, I swap the Forbidden Scroll out with a log. Then I decide to look it over myself.
After all, when will I ever have the opportunity again. Disappointingly, the Flying Thunder God Jutsu isn't in it. There is two jutsu however that interest me.
Both created by the Second Hokage. One is a genjutsu, Bringer of Darkness and the other is a forbidden jutsu, Reanimation.
I unseal two scrolls and then I create two water clones. The clones immediately start copying everything about the two jutsu down. I go around the clearing and start laying a few easy traps.
More to delay than cause actual damage. When I return, my clones are finished. After giving me the copied notes, they dispel.
I spend the remaining time watching Naruto. He has remarkable dedication, there's no doubting that. Even if he is a moron.
I'm almost surprised that after an hour, he's finally successful. After wasting an inordinate amount of chakra. It makes me visibly wince.
All levity leaves me however as I sense two chakra signatures approaching. I move further back, just in case I underestimated Mizuki.
It's Iruka that appears first however. The moment I see him, I silently make my way towards the other approaching chakra. A tiny flicker of my own power and an object appears in my hand.
Naruto is explaining everything when Mizuki arrives. I roll my eyes at his posturing. When he gets to the part about Naruto being the Fox, that's when I finally make my appearance behind him.
Without giving any of the three of them a chance to react further, I activate my weapon. The sound it makes causes Mizuki to spin around. It's too late however.
He tries to parry with a kunai. Big mistake. Lighting chakra surges through the kunai and directly into his body. The clearing is lit up with both the sight and filled with his screams.
I don't stop until his voice has faded and he's unconscious. " Such a pity that would be villains always waste time on monologues. Any fool can see he's not the Fox, merely a vessel. "
I say the last part while looking directly at Naruto. Tears are streaming down his face. After looking hesitantly at me for a moment, Iruka goes to Naruto and crouches down.
With a hand squeezing gently on Naruto's shoulder, Iruka speaks. " He's right you know. You're not the Fox. Merely a knucklehead ninja. "
Unlike the other two, I don't react as a squad of Anbu appears. I leave Iruka to explain. I'd already deactivated my sword so I use the lull to seal it away.
One of the Anbu binds Mizuki up and lifts him. He and another one take off, prisoner in tow. The other two escort the three of us to the Hokage.
He's waiting in his office, looking stern. The Anbu leave us as we enter the office, closing the door behind us. Naruto speaks first. Telling the Hokage about Mizuki's supposed secret test and everything that followed.
That's when the Hokage looks at me. Unlike Naruto, I start my story with what happened at lunchtime and the conclusions I drew about Naruto's chakra capacity.
The Third just looks sad at that point. Likely because he never noticed Naruto struggling. Next, I tell him about the hostility I discerned from Mizuki.
I detailed how I cloaked myself in genjutsu and spied on their conversation after class, how I followed Naruto into the forest and watching him eventually learn the Shadow Clone Jutsu.
I told him how I sensed the two Chunin approaching and how I ambushed Mizuki as he dropped his guard. The Hokage looked impressed.
" That was well done Hatorama. I'm glad to hear as well that you're putting the Second Hokage's Sword of the Thunder God to good use. "
" I will have it put on your record that you completed a B rank mission and see to it that the money is paid into your account. Now, as to what Mizuki revealed about Naruto, I trust you can keep it to yourself? "
I nod my head. " Yes Lord Third. I already knew before I heard what Mizuki said however. I was suspicious when I felt his chakra reserves. It's enormous for his age. Even more than mine. "
Here I looked into that Hokage's eyes. " Knowing what I know about this village, it was easy to put things together. " Naruto looked completely lost and Iruka only looked like he half understood.
The Hokage understood my hidden message however. I was speaking of my great grandmother Mito. He looked at me even more impressed than he was before.
After a moment though, he turned to Naruto. He rebuked him and comforted him in equal measure. Naruto atleast no longer looked so sad. That's when the Hokage spoke again.
He had moved towards his desk and taken something out of it. " Now Naruto, I'm given to understand that you mastered the Shadow Clone Jutsu. Do you know what that means? "
Here he smiled. " It means you've passed my boy and become a Genin. " The three of us look at Naruto as he tears up and takes the headband in his shaking hands.
Iruka went to Naruto and gently took it from his shaking hands. After telling Naruto to close his eyes, he tied the headband around his head.
I decided to break up the moment with a slight jab. The amused smile on my face tipped the Hokage off. " If you're done crying like a girl... "
He immediately glared at me. The effect was ruined by the dried tear tracks. Iruka groaned as Naruto shot up. " Why you...! "
The Hokage's laughter cut him off. " I think that's quite enough excitement for all of us for one night boys. Naruto, you have something of mine I believe. "
Sheepishly, Naruto took the Forbidden Scroll off his back and placed it on the Hokage's desk. The moment it did, the genjutsu faded and a log appeared.
A log with a page stuck on it. A page that had a winking face drawn on it. As Naruto leapt back, confused, my laughter rang out in the office. " You should really stop being so easily duped. "
Iruka grabbed Naruto as he tried to jump at me. I approached the desk and unsealed a small scroll. The larger Forbidden Scroll appeared in a puff of smoke.
The Hokage looked amused. After confirming it was the real thing, he chased us out of his office. As we excited the Tower, I looked at the other two.
" Well, that was exciting. How about I treat you two for dinner, to make up for tricking you. All you can eat. " Naruto's eyes light up and after a moment, Iruka smiles and agrees. Then the three of us set off.
