Song: She's in Love

Song Lyrics
Second Verse - First Verse - Chorus
Adrien walked across the school grounds to the stairs the led to his next class. As he walked, he noticed all the people around him paired off. There was Alya and Nino, Ivan and Mylene, Nathaniel and Marc, and even Alix was with Kim having fun with some dare. Adrien sighed to himself, telling himself to take a breath. Just because everyone was happy with someone, didn't mean he had to dwell on his recent breakup with Kagami.
They hadn't gotten into a fight or anything drastic to pull them apart. The feeling was actually quite mutual. The two had been together for almost nine months when Adrien really started feeling that it wasn't right. It wasn't Kagami, it was completely him and his feeling that he shouldn't lead her on and ignore it.
He told her about these changes of feelings. He promised that there wasn't another girl he was interested in, but he knew that she wasn't the one for him in the long run. He apologized many, many times because he felt terrible for causing their breakup. He felt a little better about the situation when Kagami admitted she had started feeling the same way, and that it was okay with her if they started to see other people.
It wasn't like he was jealous of anyone in particular for being in a good, healthy relationship. He just missed the feeling of being in love with someone. Though, as a model he knew he'd have plenty of girls willing to go out with him, but he didn't want to just date a random girl.
Adrien hadn't realized he'd already arrived to class because he was so lost in his thoughts, but he found himself sitting at his desk when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around in his seat to see Marinette looking at him with a worried expression.
"Are you okay?" She asked with a concerned tone that told Adrien she really cared.
Adrien smiled at her weakly and gave her a small nod. "Yeah, I'm okay." He answered, knowing she was referring to the breakup that only happened a few days earlier.
Marinette gave him a small smile in return but still looked concern as she leaned back and sat in her seat, though she was still leaning on the desk in my direction. "Okay, but just know if you need to talk about it you can come to me, alright?"
"Yeah, thanks Marinette." I replied as my smile grew a little bit. "I'll keep that in mind."
And he did keep that in mind for a few weeks. It was about a month after his breakup with Kagami that he realized Marinette was a little more than just a friend to him. She was so kind and considerate of others, himself included, and she always knew what to do to put a smile on anyone's face when they felt discouraged for any reason.
Adrien had no idea why it took so long for him to realize what an amazing person Marinette was, or how much he'd want to get to know and spend more time with her. Now, here he was hoping for a chance to talk to her and possibly try asking her to go on a date with him to see if anything could work out between them.
It was days later that he finally found some time to get her alone with him and talk. Adrien saw her with Alya and could tell they were very excited about something, though he didn't know what. He was happy to see Alya big a farewell to Marinette and run off to Nino, leaving him alone with his newfound crush.
"Hey, Marinette." He greeted with a smile, trying to keep himself from showing any sign of being nervous.
She looked up at him from her schoolbag as she took out a textbook. "Oh, hi Adrien." She said with a sweet smile, that hadn't until recently found a way right to his heart. She had looked back down to her bag and was closing it.
Adrien thought it would be better for him to get straight to his point and not avoid it in fear of letting his nerves build up too much and keep him from his goal. "I was just wondering,"
He paused as she looked up at him with curiosity, and those blue eyes of hers seemed to make him melt. "Are you free sometime?"
Marinette's curious expression morphed into one of confusion. "I might be, but that depends." She answered. "Why do you ask?"
"I wanted to know if you might want to go out sometime?" He answered as a question, and he registered the change of confusion to surprise, and then to his disappointment,
"I'm sorry." She said, and Adrien could tell that she meant it. "It's just—Luka and I—He's asked me to go to the movies with him in a couple nights, and we went out for lunch Saturday, and I think he and I might make our dates a regular thing."
Adrien tried to force a smile to hide his disappointment and nodded slowly. "Oh." He answered. "I see. I hope the two of you have fun."
"I'm really sorry, Adrien." Marinette said as she slung her backpack over her shoulder. "Really, I am sorry."
She seemed a lot more distressed about this rejection than he was, he noticed, especially when she walked away from him without another word. Not only did he feel quite disappointed from the rejection, he felt curious to know why she was so sorry about it.
For the next few days, instead of this crush Adrien had developed for Marinette dissolving, it grew stronger. So much that whenever saw Luka with Marinette anywhere he felt jealous, and he hadn't remembered feeling jealousy so strong. There was that one time with Theo the artist who had been akumatized into Copy Cat, but Adrien had matured since then.
His sulking and the jealous looks he threw in Luka's way definitely didn't go unnoticed by his friends or others who knew him. Whenever he was asked how he was doing, or if he was okay, he'd answer "I'm fine."
Told everyone I'm doing fine
Slowly but surely, he was able to adapt this longing feeling that he felt to grow closer to Marinette into his everyday life, and soon was able to pretend he wasn't bothered by the fact she was Luka anymore. Only his closest friend, Nino, knew he hadn't really moved on, so naturally Alya knew as well.
Learned to get on with my life
Adrien knew that he couldn't go on displaying how much he wished he could be with Marinette because he knew she'd only worry about him and feel terrible. He wanted her to be happy, and knew it was best if she didn't think he was still hurt and had moved on from what she probably assumed was a brief crush. So he lied to her, and to everyone else to hide the truth and avoid hurting her.
I just want what's best for her
So I lied
This lasted for another month, and became a very regular thing for Adrien to hide his feelings from her and everyone else, with the exception of Nino and Alya. Adrien even started to really forget how jealous and upset he felt as he continuously buried his feelings. One day, however, he found that there was a note left for him from Marinette.
Found a note on my door last night
Adrien was reluctant to read the note, but he did.
"Dear Adrien,
I really value our friendship, and I promise to always be your friend until the day I die. To be able to offer you my full friendship, I felt there was something you really should know.
Adrien, I used to be in love with you, and it lasted a very long time. I knew you didn't feel the same way, and I struggled to move on. I deeply care about you still, but you should know that I've found someone else to love so you don't need to worry about any awkwardness because of my past feelings for you.
I'm glad that nothing has come between our friendship, and I really hope it lasts a really long time.
Love, Marinette."
Said, I'll be your friend until I die
But you should know I found someone
Adrien had to reread the note several times to get the message across to him, that Marinette had loved him and that he missed his chance. Now, she was in love with Luka, but Adrien really wished it was him she was in love with.
Now she's in love
Several months passed and Luka and Marinette were very happy about their relationship, except Luka knew that something was wrong. Several times he caught Marinette looking at Adrien with a longing expression that she tried hiding when she knew he saw.
This went on until school was let out for summer, but Luka knew Marinette still wasn't as happy as he wanted her to be, and he knew deep down he couldn't make her happier while she still loved Adrien.
On the third of June, Luka confronted Marinette about it at the park after they went out for evening ice cream. He told her he thought they should break up because he knew that she still loved Adrien.
He looked at Marinette and could see the pain in her eyes, and it only made him feel more guilty.
"I don't love him anymore." She tried to tell him, but he knew she was lying to herself. "I love you, Luka."
"Marinette, it's okay." Luka told her, straining a smile for her. "I know you still love him, and it's okay. Go and tell him that he's the one you love."
"But, Luka, you're my boyfriend." Marinette tried to argue, her eyes tearing up more. "I love you."
"I know." Luka said, nodding slowly. "But you'd rather be with Adrien. I can tell, and I know you'd be happier with him."
"Luka—" Marinette was going to argue but she obviously knew that he was right. After pausing for a moment, she gave him a tight hug. "Promise me that we'll stay friends and that we'll stay in touch no matter what?"
"I promise." Luka said with a sad smile as he hugged her back, and finally released her from the hug.
"Okay." Marinette said with a small, sad smile as she wiped at her eyes. "I guess this is goodbye for now."
"Yeah." Luka agreed, and he held back his tears as he gave her a forced smile. "See you later."
Third of June she said goodbye
Luka watched Marinette give him one last smile before she turned and walked away towards the bakery, leaving him alone in the park under the stars and moonlight to stare after her.
I watched her walk into the night
Luka sadly smiled to himself, finally letting the tears roll down his cheeks. He loved Marinette so much, and he knew he wished he could be with her, but he also knew she was still in love with Adrien.
He had to let her go. He loved seeing her happy, and her happiness was of utmost importance to him.
The hardest thing I ever did was let her go
A few weeks went by, and Luka started seeing less of Marinette. He didn't mind so much because they stayed in touch, just like she made him promise. They still texted each other about things, and shared phone calls.
They were both happy with just being friends now, even if it still hurt Luka.
We swore as friends we'd stay in touch
Though they did stay in touch, the daily texts and phone calls slowly became less frequent. They didn't talk as much as they used to, but they still knew they were good friends to each other.
Luka had a feeling that it was because Marinette had started to spend more time with Adrien. They seemed to be very happy together, and he knew it was only a matter of time before they became an official couple.
Best of friends don't mean that much
Luka was very happy for Marinette, knowing that she had always wanted to grow closer to Adrien. After a few days longer of seeing Marinette spending more time with Adrien, he received a phone call from Marinette, telling him that she and Adrien were together and that she was so happy that they could still be friends.
When that phone call comes to tell you
She's in love
Luka watched Marinette's happiness seem to explode the more she spent time with Adrien, and it was obvious Adrien felt the same way.
She's in love
They'd walk around hand in hand, and it was obvious to anyone who saw the way that she looked at him.
She's got that fire in her eyes
When he said anything to her, she just positively beamed with happiness. That smile of hers that Luka loved to see so much, but was the result of Adrien.
She's in love
How her smile lights up the sky
And even when the two were apart, she was so happy. She seemed that she'd never been so happy before, and although Luka loved seeing Marinette like that, he wished he could still be with her.
It's like she's walking on air
She's been set free
Luka still had a hard time seeing Marinette so positively happy, because it was she seemed just like a princess from one of those fairy tales.
Still I can't believe
She's in love
Marinette didn't seem to realize either, the way all the guys looked at her and Adrien when they walked together down the streets hand in hand.
Strolling down a one-way street
The way Marinette seemed to glow with happiness made her even more beautiful, and even more guys, other than Luka, jealous of Adrien.
Looking like every man's fantasy
It was obvious to anyone who say her that she was head over heels in love, and though everyone was happy for the couple, Luka still wished he could've been the lucky one to make her so happy.
She's in love
Why can't it be me
