Chapter 1: Way

POV Aster

For the first time in a while I felt excited. And not because of a duel, it was because of the so called "class reunion". Even though I wasn't really part of the class Atticus still invited me, telling me it would be fun.

Of course, this argument alone wouldn't be enough to convince me to join their little trip but after he mentioned that Jaden and Zane would probably come as well I agreed.

I hadn't seen Jaden for a long time and about Zane, he still owns me a rematch. The last time I tried to challenge him didn't work, since he was in his whole "Hell Kaiser" phase.

And now I was sitting in front of the gigantic window in my hotel room, waiting for Atticus to finally finish showering. Yea you've heard it right, Atticus had the brilliant idea to put him, me, his dear friend Fujiwara and Zane in one hotel room for god knows what reason.

Sartorius was here as well, he and Serena insisted to come with me, I guess they were worried that something would happen to me since I've never really been away on my own. (Not counting the class trip with Jaden and the others where Sartorius was possessed by the light).

"Dude can you hurry up? What's taking so long?" I asked with an annoyed voice and stared at the clock. We all agreed to meet at the hotel restaurant in the morning at 10 am, but Atticus was in the bathroom for over an hour.

"I'm almost finished, don't be so impatient!"

"You're calling me impatient? It's already half past nine and you know that-"

"Aster, just leave him be" Zane suddenly interrupted me. I gave him an angry stare but he just looked at me with his usual poker face.

"Besides, it's your own fault for staying up so late so don't complain about others using the bathroom before you" he added with a little smirk as he turned away.

I grumbled and decided to simply ignore him. It's true that he was one of the only reasons why I decided to participate in this trip in the first hand but it would definitely take me a while until I could get used to his complaints.

And besides, unlike the others I was pretty jetlagged yesterday night when we arrived so they shouldn't be blaming me for this.

Before anyone could say something else Atticus finally opened the door and stepped out, looking as extravagant as always.

"Jeez, finally" I said as entered the bathroom.

We arrived almost too late. Even Jaden was on time.

We spent pretty much time talking about what we should do today while waiting for the others to finish eating their breakfast.

Since the weather was nice we decided to just hand around at the beach, so after breakfast we all headed to the big blue ocean.

Chazz, Syrus, Hussleberry, Blair, Alexis, Jesse and Jaden were literally jumping into the water after throwing all their stuff into the sand.

Sartorius and his sister Serena decided to not go swimming and just enjoy the sun.

Atticus said he would check out the beach bar and the ladies. I just rolled my eyes and then looked around to see if there was something interesting.

Seeing the others splashing water at everyone else made me sigh as I started walking around. Such kids-

I stopped and looked at the wide blue ocean which looked beautiful in the shining sunlight.

Days like these remind me of the time where my father took me to all the different places around the city. Especially in summer, when the weather was as nice as it was today.

A little smile formed on my face as I was still staring at the stunning scenery in front of my eyes.

Those days with my dad were great, I've learned so much from him even though I didn't spent that much time with him as I did with Sartorius.

The smile slowly faded as I remembered that incident.

Just when I started thinking about my father's dead again a big cloud covered the sun, making the atmosphere look a bit darker and I began feeling cold.

"I miss you…" I whispered quietly and sighed.

"Aster"

I looked around. Did someone call me?

"Aster!"

Again, the voice sounded strange yet somehow familiar. Was I hallucinating?

Nobody was near me, so where did the voice come from? I looked around, trying to find the owner of the voice.

I could hear them calling me again and again, I was more than confused.

I started walking to where I believed the voice was coming from. It was like it came from the ocean, so I walked towards it until I felt the cool waves crashing against my legs. The voice was still calling me, but this time it sounded more clear.

"Father?"

I couldn't believe my ears. So either I really was hallucinating or I was starting to get crazy.

I was so focused in my thoughts that I almost didn't notice somebody else calling my name until they grabbed my arm and pulled me back.

At the same moment a big wave crashed against the sand.

"What the hell were you trying to do?!" Zane shouted and let go of my arm. I must've still been confused, my head was trying to remember what happened.

"I… I don't know, I was just enjoying the sun" I lied as the things in my head started to get clearer. And since I didn't want Zane to think that I was crazy I didn't tell him about the voice I heard.

"Enjoying the sun? To me it looked more like you were trying to get yourself buried under that wave. Didn't you hear Alexis calling you? If I wasn't standing there you would've been pulled into the ocean" Zane snapped and crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"You know I wouldn't do something as dumb as that. And besides, what were you even doing here? I thought you were with Jaden and the others" I tried to change the subject as I felt quite uncomfortable.

"I don't really like swimming. And even if I wanted to, you should know that because of my heart's condition I wouldn't be able to anyway. Now back to your actions" He said as he stared at me with his poker face again.

I sighed and just turned away. "I simply do not want to talk about it" I answered before I walked away.

I could feel his cold stare in my back.

The voice had disappeared. Maybe it really was just my imagination. I tried not to think about it when some water skiing equipment caught my attention.

There was a shop that sold all kinds of water sports equipment and that reminded me of how I forgot to bring mine.

I decided to check it out and ended up having fun skiing around. I met Jaden and the others not too far from the shop and made a sharp drift so that they all would get splashed by the water.

Chazz and Syrus started arguing about that while Jaden and Jesse were laughing.

I quickly forgot about what had happened before.

Even when I spotted Zane standing near Sartorius and Serena I made that sharp drift again and splashed them too.

"Jeez what was that for Aster?!" my manager grumbled and tried to help Serena who fell down backwards the moment I splashed her.

Zane gave me an annoyed look and shook his head. Judging from the challenging expression on his face I could tell that he wanted revenge on that.

I only smirked and continued splashing him until he had enough and started throwing sand at me every time I came near him.

At the end of the day I was completely exhausted, just like the other. It seemed like we all had fun today, even Zane who usually would just sit there shaking his head, was smiling. At least a little bit.

After dinner we all headed back to our hotel rooms. And that's when it started.

The moment we stepped into the hotel there was a bright light. It was so bright that we all had to close our eyes in order to not to get blind. The floor started shaking which caused me to fall down.

I could hear the others shouting about what was going on, but I was too confused to even speak.

After a few seconds the floor stopped shaking and I felt a cold wind touching my bare skin.

I carefully opened my eyes.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
