"Hey GrandTad" Ianto said softly as he settled by his bed, lifting the hand covered with paper thin skin, gently rubbing moisturiser into said skin.

"Your mother rang the house" the old man rasped "I hung up on her."

"Great. Jesus old man, you do have to go and get old and prepare to die don't you" Ianto sighed theatrically "The vultures are circling now."

The old man laughed weakly, choking as his eyes danced. His lovely boy taking the other hand to carefully moisturise around the intravenous drip in his hand. "They will come sweetheart."

"Of course they will… I have the shotgun full of salt-peter all ready for them" Ianto quipped and the old man rasped out a choking laugh again.

"Soon"

"Don't' say that" Ianto looked up once more, the tears he had felt earlier again bieng traitorous scum as he kissed the hand he held.

"Is that fancy man of yours coming around again?"

"Cu it out. Jack Harkness is not my fancy man, he clearly barely knows I am alive. He only comes for you… letch." Ianto huffed, the physical therapist not only the most handsome man Ianto had ever seen.. ya know.. he smells sooooo good. God.

As is on cue, Jack knocked on the door and grinned "Hey? This Fancy Man is not free ya know… I am in great demand."

"No doubt" Ianto laughed a she moved away to let Jack to the side of the bed where he immediately reached out to take Ifan's hand. Ianto left them to it, knowing his grandfather hated the physical therapy as much as he loved it, the pain offset with that nice sleep afterwards once his muscles were loosened up and those pesky cramps he never complained about went away.

Afterwards Jack came out to sit by Ianto who handed him a freshly made coffee "Ahhhhh… nectar of the gods."

Ianto smiled as he settled back, pushing the plate of fresh baking at him and Jack made a noise of glee. Then Ianto took a sip and looked toward the doorway of his grandfather's room "He's not go much more left in him."

"No, he is determined to see your birthday though" Jack smiled "We were talking about that. Amongst other things."

"What… other things… do you talk about?" Ianto asked half-pie hoping it might be him.

Jack laughed, his handsome face full of life and Ianto wanted to snog him, suck that life out of him. God, he was so fucking sexy. Ianto blushed at the horror of the realisation he was leering and Jack laughed more, "You know… I asked him about taking you out for a meal. A movie maybe."

"What?" Ianto blinked with surprise "Really? I mean... ah… are you asking me out on a…on a date?"

"Yes, are you in for it?"

"Yes… yes!" Ianto blustered, his blush now bright as Jack grinned.

"You know… you are not like the usual kinda guy I fall for!" Jack said after a while.

"I know… you usually go after lookers I bet… equally handsome and debonair… not mousey like me" Ianto snorted, still not sure why Jack would ask him out.

Jack was shocked and showed it as he asked "Ianto? You do know you are sex in a suit, right?"

"Don't' be a divvy" Ianto laughed, rising to clear the table and Jack rose to leave, picking up his backpack and the envelope inside he had to take to Toshiko for the latest tweak.

The hidden will the old man was working on, the plans he had made… all had to be carried out as soon as they could. Like he said… there was not much time. Ianto's birthday a scant three weeks away and Ifan was going to hang on as long as that if he could.

Ianto looked at the car sitting on the driveway and had a bad feeling as he walked up the side of the house with the bag of goodies from the store, entering via the side door so he could sneak along the hallway and his father's voice made his mouth go dry. Fucker. Ianto slipped into the kitchen and found Jack in there crouched by the living room door peeking out, he seized Ianto without speaking and yanked him in, closing it to crack again and peer out.

"Hello Jack" Ianto said softly as he started to put away the groceries and ignore what was happening.

"They pushed Toshiko aside like she was a doorstop. She called me so pissed she was hissing in Japanese. I didn't even know she spoke it… so angry. She's standing in the doorway glaring at them like she might breathe fire at them at any moment… little dragon" Jack hissed, his crouched position changing as he popped up as if spooked, then back to a crouch again "The little one tried to escape."

"The little…. They have her in there? They have the little girl in there with those machines? God, he will be hating that, a little one seeing him so frail" Ianto said as he let his shoulders droop, leaning over the sink as he stared at the plug hole.

"Ooooo…she's going in" Jack chortled in a high pitched voice, the raised voices starting as Jack rushed from the kitchen and Ianto slid to the door to peek out the crack now as Jack emerged from the room with Ianto's father, dragging the man by his arm as Ianto's mother cried and ran after him carrying the little girl.

Three? No… four? Cute little thing. Poor bugger.

Ianto closed the kitchen door and placed his forehead against it as Jack shoved them out the door with open glee, telling them the old man needed to rest now.

The slam making the house shudder.
