"W-woah h-hey you okay? What's going on?" Amber asked as she moved closer to him to try and calm him. She was utterly confused at what could have caused him to suddenly look so distressed. The professional huntress was a little out of her element. Usually she just had to save some people and kill Grimm. Not… this.
Obito on the other hand was beginning to truly think about his strange situation. He died then woke up in what looked to be somewhere close to the hidden leaf, except the woman who supposedly saved him said she didn't know the hidden leaf. Who doesn't know about the strongest village of the five?
Not to mention his regenerated body which even Madara Uchiha could not fix! There were a few possibilities but none of them seemed any good. Calming down and sighing, Obito decided to just ask a few more questions. It was best to rip off the band-aid as the saying goes.
"You okay now? I was sort of freaking out over the sudden change in your mood." Obito looked at Amber and saw the genuine concern in her eyes. It was so strange to see someone he just met care about him. Obviously it was only as far as being a respectable human and wanting to help those in need, but it was still appreciated.
"Yeah, I just… say can I ask a few more questions? It is of course, related to my distress and while that is over I need to confirm something."
Amber smiled, patted his shoulder and said, "Of course, a few questions wouldn't hurt. Also, I'm gonna assume this hidden Leaf village that you mentioned happened to be where you came from?" They both continued on the road as the clock was ticking and Amber couldn't afford to waste too much time. The young Uchiha thought it was best to answer with honesty, it wouldn't hurt him, if he really was… well he would think about that after some of his questions.
"Yeah, that would be right."
"Hmm, well I've been to a lot of villages but there are still quite a bit out there. Not many stay alive for too long though. N-not saying that yours is gone or anything!"
"Heh, no it's fine I understand that. So how about…" And Obito began to question her about a few more of the five great villages and it was quickly becoming apparent of what had happened to him. However, he asked one question that would narrow down the answer. "So this will be my last question, do you know about Chakra?"
Amber raised an eyebrow and for a few seconds thought about it but couldn't pin anything down. She sighed and shook her head.
"Right, well that pretty much answers my biggest question."
Amber felt a little bad, from what she could gleem he was in probably the worst situation possible. His home was far away or gone, he had no friends around to help him aside from her but she was a total stranger. The best she could do was get him to safety and help him figure something out now that he was alone in the world.
"Welp, we gotta settle down for the night anyway. I'll ask you a few things, as promised, and then we will sleep. Another day and we will be about half-way there. I honestly thought it would take less time." Amber proclaimed with a bit of tiredness in her voice. Obito felt a tiny bit bad about hounding her with questions which were often followed by silence as he was mulling over what it all meant.
As a way to pay her back, Obito helped get some firewood and in a few seconds everything was set. Amber then pulled something out of a bag that was usually hanging on the side of her horse Ella. She held a lighter and a fire came to life. Obito could have used a lower level fire technique but he was still hesitant to show things like that. His thought process was interrupted by Amber's voice.
"So, first, you got any parents? I know it's a bit insensitive but it's important."
"No, I lost them in the second great war." Amber looked at him strangely for a few moments before shaking her head.
"Okay, how about, um, this village of yours. I'm gonna assume it is on this continent, so any idea where it is? Like, if I give you a map could you be able to point it out to me? Kid? What ar-" Amber was startled Obito swiped the map from her hands and began to scan it scarily fast. Her eyes were wide and she had to calm her breathing. That terrified her! It was so sudden.
"Of course! Of course! Why didn't I think of that at first? Well, the west was alway unreachable and unexplored so it could have been a possibility but with all of the questions I asked, well it is safe to say it isn't possible."
"That's great Obito but can you scoot back a bit?"
"Ah, y-yeah sorry about that." The Uchiha rubbed the back of his neck as he did as she asked. He truly didn't mean to act like that but he was so ecstatic about being reminded that he could have asked for a map. That was the final piece in the puzzle. That or Chakra but it never hurt to have even more information.
"Well, I guess that confirms it now…"
Amber scratched her head and a few seconds later gestured to him to continue. She wanted to know what was scrambling his mind ever since she had saved him. She didn't really have anything else to do, and she didn't travel with people often.
"Well, as unbelievable as it may sound, from all of what you told and with what that map of yours shows, it looks like I have been revived in another world."
… Though Obito was likely expecting Amber to laugh at how ridiculous such a statement was, there was one little detail that caught her attention. It was thrown out so normally even though it was quite a big deal.
"Did you say revived? As in you died?" Obito was relieved and questioned why she chose to focus on that. It was still going to be very awkward and strange to explain things.
"Yes, I wasn't making jokes or anything. I know it is very strange and nonsensical-"
"That's an understatement."
"But yes, I remember my last moments before I woke up here in Remnant. I know for sure I died from a stab wound to the heart." Now Amber was trying to make sense of all of that. One thing she could say was that the blood that surrounded a hole in the chest area of his cloak did attest to what he was saying. "Another thing is the fact that you don't know and haven't heard about Chakra. In my world everyone knows Chakra. And, I've been around, I left the village for a while at some point and I know quite a bit of the other villages."
"From the way you are describing these villages it seems they are much bigger than what is on Remnant."
"They are second to the country that pays the villages for protection."
"I see, wow, this is a lot to take in and I don't fully believe it. I mean, can you show what the difference between Chakra and Aura is?"
"Aura?" Amber looked at him strangely before smacking her head and reminding herself that she was about to get answers as to why he didn't seem to know anything about Remnant. "I'll tell you after, just demonstrate what Chakra does."
Obito got up and looked at her in the eyes and for a moment she thought she could see a mischievous glint in them. It went away as soon as it arrived and his eyes suddenly changed colors. However, she noticed that there were some strange symbols that appeared within them as well. Then, as she waited for what she thought would just be his semblance…
"The color of my panties is purple."
…
"W-w-what?! What the fuck?! W-w-w-w-why did I-I say t-that outloud?" She could hear Obito chuckle a bit but when she looked at him with eyes full of rage he took on a frightened look. The irritating thing was that she could tell he wasn't really scared. She went to punch him in the face but was surprised as her fist went right through him. She looked back and was confused as he was standing at the same spot.
"All right what the hell is going on here? It better be a good answer or I'll mess you up so bad the Grimm won't have scraps to feast on!"
The large blush on her face was both from anger and embarrassment. But, Obito was having the time of his life. How long had it been since he was able to joke around and have fun? Too long it seemed. Amber, while not calm, thought it was nice that the kid finally smiled. Even if it was for a perverted prank. He was a teen though so she should have guessed he would do something like that. She'll get him back at some point.
"Well, as you saw, my eyes changed in both color and shape as a result of activating them. Or specifically the power behind my eyes. This transformation is called the Sharingan and it allows me to do many things, most of which are quite powerful and can help me get out of a life or death situation. Of course the costs are massive in order to use the greater abilities, but one of them allows me to force others who don't have a strong mental defense to tell me anything they know."
"Hence when you made me say… that. You won't get away with that by the way."
"It was worth it."
"Grrrrrrr, you are really pissing me off here." Obito chuckled once again before awkwardly coughing. Then both of them sat down and he continued telling Amber about his other ability.
"The other one is special only to me, I can become intangible at a moment's notice. I can do quite a bit more and that is also not including what I can do with Chakra. I don't have many techniques but the ones I do have are very useful and powerful. My problem is, now that I know I'm in an entirely different world. I don't know what to do, I don't know anything about this place or what I could do here."
After all of that was said, Amber sat in silence for some time. But it was clear she was pondering everything. Many emotions came across her face but for at least three minutes Obito had to wait to hear what she thought. It was uncomfortable but she seemed to be a very kind and accepting person. Which was even more uncomfortable to Obito. He had never been in this situation and never met civilians or shinobi as... considerate as Amber.
"Well, I guess I do kind of believe you. Just give me a bit more time. I mean, it isn't like I was expecting to meet a kid from another world today. So just, give me some time, but even so, I'm still going to get you to that village. On our way there I'll tell you all I know regarding Remnant, then by the time we reach the place you can spend your time planning your future. Okay?"
The bright smile on Amber's face accompanied by her words of kindness told Obito that she meant every word. Obito smiled and agreed in response. They then slept in a comforting silence as they went from strangers to friends. The young Uchiha's last thought before he fully slept was that he was glad the first person he met showed him that this world was different. That Remnant might be a second chance at a better life.
A/N: Hey guys so you still haven't quite seen the bigger changes I made to the world of Remnant but soon you will. Also, I might make bigger chapters from here on out. Its mostly because the next ones will be more exciting. Also, Obito is a teen and now sees his chance to mess around like one. That's why he is acting the way he is, its not like he wanted to live the life of a shinobi. he was just a kid, he didn't know what any of being a shinobi entailed, not to mention by the time he did it was too late to back out.
He sees this new world as a chance to live a far better life. The action will soon kick in and I hope you'll enjoy it.
till the next chapter!
