Chapter 1: Mirror Dimensions
"The Council agrees," Zeus said. "Percy Jackson, you will have one gift from the gods."
I hesitated. "Any gift?"
Zeus nodded grimly. "I know what you will ask. The greatest gift of all. Yes, if you want it, it shall be yours. The gods have not bestowed this gift on a mortal hero in many centuries, but, Perseus Jackson—if you wish it—you shall be made a god. Immortal. Undying. You shall serve as your father's lieutenant for all time."
I blinked. "Um, a god?"
Zeus rolled his eyes. "A dim-witted god, apparently. But yes. A god. With the consensus of the council, I can make you immortal. Then I will have to put up with you forever."
It kinda surprised me as the gods muttered consent.
Hi. I'm Percy Jackson, if you didn't know.
If you're skipping ahead to this point of my life, you missed out on quite an adventure. I had just fought the hardest battle of my life against the forces of the Titans, something that only the gods of Olympus had before been able to boast about.
Because of my bravery, (but mostly my victory) they had decided to give me the gift of immortality. Something almost literally nobody had been given. Like, ever.
I glanced at Annabeth, my closest friend. I saw the look in her face. It was the same look I had had when she had been offered a place as a Hunter in Artemis' ranks. She was pale and breathing hard. Two things that I should not have been able to notice from this distance, but somehow did.
But… Immortality.
An idea struck me.
"I am honored to accept." I said, hoping that they could perform the ceremony fast enough that I could get a word in to my friends. "But first I want to say something to my friends."
I turned, noticing the pained and sorrow-filled expressions that they could not hide. But as bad as it must have looked, I could not help but smile.
That was the wrong time.
Annabeth looked like she might have been about to stab me with her dagger, but I gathered everyone together quickly.
"Guys, I have a plan. Trust me, you're going to love this." I whispered. "And I swear that I'm not leaving you guys forever."
Despite what my answer to Zeus might have been moments before, they seemed patient enough to refrain from tearing out my throat until it could magically reappear again. Zeus stood, along with almost the entire council. The room's floor shook, almost knocking me off balance. Zeus looked at my friends.
"You will all need to leave Olympus. Some things mortals should not see." He simply said.
My friends respectfully bowed and left the room, leaving me with all my crazy aunts and uncles. As I was about to ask what I needed to do, however, I was substantially surprised to find myself hovering in the air. In fact, I seemed to be hovering in the air, in the center of the Council.
"Poseidon, perhaps you would care to do the honors?" Zeus grumbled. Ares looked like he was just waiting for me to come out of this so he could make good on a previously mentioned promise of smashing me to a pulp.
Dad nodded and pointed his trident at me. It seared with a bright light. Brighter than any I had yet seen. And yet… still not bright enough.
I closed my eyes.
Suddenly it felt like my skin was melting off me. Which, to be fair, I suppose it was. I arched my back as I felt like my consciousness was thrown forward, outward, backward, and any other sort of "-wards" you could go. It felt like I was encompassing the entire planet all at once. Then with a blinding light that not even my eyes could quite handle, I was stuffed back into a solid form once again. My own. But… it felt kinda different now.
I landed on the tiled floor before suddenly realizing something. I was as big as the other Olympians. Had I always been taller than Athena? It would've been impossible to tell, as she had always kept her enlarged size whenever I was around. I stared down at my humongous hands, eyes wide.
"Ooooo…" I said, flexing the muscles in my hands. Zeus this felt good. Sooooo powerful…
I snapped back to reality. Zeus was saying something. From this angle, he didn't seem so imposing anymore. Still pretty threatening though.
"Perseus Jackson, you now have your immortality. Welcome to the ranks of godhood." Zeus said.
Ares stood up, nearly knocking into Hermes. "Blah blah, the punk did okay. Can I smash him now?"
"Please refrain from smashing my son until he can at least get his bearings again." Poseidon said, his eyes gleaming with pride and joy even though his tone was dead-serious. "I'm sure you have much to talk about with your friends right now."
As the thought merely crossed my mind, I suddenly found myself A.) much smaller and B.) in the midst of my friends, who all yelped and jumped backwards.
"Percy!" Grover bleated, dusting himself off from the pile of rubble he had tripped into. "Uh, so you're really a—I mean—"
"Yeah man. This… this feels really good." I said, moving my new arms again and enjoying the power I felt in them.
Then my eyes fell on Annabeth's. They looked like they had just watched Kronos slit my throat. My smile faded for a moment, before blooming fully again.
"Ah, right. Well, now is time for your guys' second gift." I said, flexing my hands wide.
"Percy what are you talking abou—" Annabeth began, but they were all suddenly silenced as I shot golden beams from my hands, charging through each of them. I felt the power I had felt previously dim slightly, but it was worth it. My friends fell to their knees, their skin steaming like they had just bathed in Styx. None of them seemed ready to move yet, but their eyes were all wide.
"P-Percy?" Annabeth finally croaked out. "D-Did you just—"
I grinned. "Yup. Nothing's gonna stand in the way of my friends now. Welcome to the ranks of us gods."
Grover's eyes went wide as he realized what this meant.
"I—" he began, stumbling backwards as if he was having a heart attack, which I was pretty sure was now impossible. "I'm a—"
"Dude, I'm pretty sure you're the new Pan." I answered, giving my best friend a bear/goat-hug.
Annabeth leapt up and tackled me, tears running down her face.
"You brilliantly stupid piece of Seaweed Brain!" she laughed and cried at the same time. Thalia looked at her hands like they were someone else's.
"Sooo… what does that mean for me? I mean, I was already immortal soooo…"
I thought about that.
"Uh, I hadn't thought about it." I said. "Maybe now you can't fall in battle either?"
Thalia nodded.
Annabeth turned to me, a suddenly serious look on her face. "But Percy, what are our parents going to say? Did you tell them you were going to bring three more gods to the table?"
I shrugged. "Probably not. But they should've known I'm a package deal."
Grover bit his lip. "Uh, not to sound ungrateful or anything, since you literally just gave us godhood, but should I be worried about getting blasted off the mountain?"
"Bro, I'd worry more about what Juniper is going to say." I joked. "You just went to war, probably without her knowing."
Grover blanched, and disappeared suddenly. He reappeared moments later, his eyes wide.
"Uh…" he said, barely daring to breathe. "I just teleported."
"That reminds me…" I said, looking back at the massive throne-room in the distance. "Ares might be planning to grind me into the ground soon. You should probably get going."
Annabeth nodded, and smiled. She vanished, along with Thalia and Grover, somewhere near Camp Half-Blood.
Just on time, Ares materialized out of nowhere, sword already raised.
In only an instant of time, I had uncapped Riptide and blocked the hit. Ares growled, though even I could see the strain he was putting into his strike.
"Not bad, punk. You're getting used to this faster than I thought." He said, grinning.
"Thanks. I'm a fast learner." I said, also grinning. "Or at least, now I am."
Ares began attacking faster than should have been possible, but as fast as he attacked, I found I could dodge. Time slowed and sped up at the same time. Wow, thinking about it kinda hurt.
Ares blade met mine once more and a shower of sparks flew as his sword ignited on fire. He shoved his weight into the blade, and I flew backwards, flying into and through marble pillar. The building's ceiling collapsed on top of me, and though I could feel every stone edge that was cutting into my body, I was also aware that I was not in pain. I stood, the stone exploding around me. Out of nowhere, water began lapping around me, hovering around me like a defensive ring.
Ares only nodded. "Huh."
He came at me again, his sword slashing like lightning. I ducked and blocked and parried, waiting for some opening. Now that we were both immortal, he wasn't holding back.
I could see why he had been labeled the god of war. He was good. And though that shouldn't have surprised me, I just had to wonder how much he had held back in our last fight.
"So, I have a question." I said, as I blocked his blade with mine, straining at the effort. Ares did not acknowledge, but pressed his advantage. "Now that I'm immortal and all, does that mean you're my cousin or are you a step-brother?"
"WHAT THE—?!" he bellowed, straightening up.
I moved as fast as my new limbs could go, and the tip of my sword pressed against his throat.
"Gotcha." I said, smiling. Ares scowled deeper than I had ever seen him yet. I lowered my sword and began walking away, feeling kinda proud of myself, honestly.
But I felt a sharp pain in my stomach as suddenly Ares was behind me again, his sword in my stomach.
"Don't leave your enemy able to stand, Jackson. Always, always, grind them into a pulp so they ever challenge you again." He snarled, before flinging me off the blade. I flew into the nearest pile of rubble, and even I had to admit that that sword really, really hurt.
But the burning sensation suddenly turned into a pleasant heat again. I could feel everything patching up at extreme rates. I surprised myself, jumping out of the rubble with not a scratch on me.
Zeus I was loving this.
I calmly walked to the exit to Olympus and pressed the down arrow. The doors slid open, and I stepped into the elevator.
There were more people I had yet to see.
