The team is assembled, it's time to take action
The Secret Freedom Fighters were complete. And the Director Harvey Who got around to explain the lemur newcomer what was the team and what exactly were they fighting for, which can easily be summarized in "there's an usurper of the crown un-rightfuly sitting on the throne and we're the ones that can stop him", in exchange Lemur told him more openly about her feats and skills like the iconic fight with Neo Metal Sonic or the 'not-wanting-to-talk-about-it' metal virus. But this was a nice chat and allowed Tangle to definitely be in the team, however...
This was not exactly what she wanted.
Harvey managed to make a deal that he and Nicole would try and find her two friends while she worked on the missions, it was a decent exchange so Tangle was now one hundred percent on board, and pretty excited to start this little mission with this new group. Also, being part of this team also came with its own one-piece black leather suit with gray lines on the sides of the body that matched the lemur's original outfit and same with the gloves but with black small boots along with a visor of the same color and a face mask that covered the muzzle, perfect for keeping an identity hidden. Each member had a similar outfit but with a different color
Oh, and the members? Right now two of them were outside looking for the final member of the team one of them being Larry, on the meanwhile Harvey called everyone to the main room in order to wait for them which allowed Tangle to meet the other ones while waiting, one of them being none other than Silver the Hedgehog himself.
"Guess some things never change" she said during a small conversation about why they were in the team
"Huh?" the hedgehog asked confused.
"The Silver I know also had something going on about his future, I think he fixed it and had to leave before the party".
"Are you saying that he managed to fix his own future?" he said lowering his head thinking about it.
"Oh c'mon, don't be like that! If he did it then surely you can do it as well!"
It was short and simple but maybe that could lift Silver's spirit ups. Finally the escorts had suddenly arrived with Elias Acorn, brother of princess Sally Acorn rightful owner of the crown and the main cause of why this team was created in the first place causing everyone to quickly incorporate into 'positions'.
"Escort completed Director Who" said a pink canine upon entering the door.
"Excellent work! Good to see you made it here in one piece, sire!" exclaimed Harvey.
"I left Feral Forest to a badnik invasion," he said firmly and straight to the point "Tell me you've got good news Harvey".
"The best possible news, your team is assembled!" he said proudly with Elias taking one look at them and immediately being downright confused by the picks based on first impressions, he really wasn't sure what to think about it and barely even recognized anyone but decided to let Harvey finish his introduction.
"Leeta and Lyco, twin agents of the Wolf Pack Nation! Two of the finest young warriors on Mobius. Larry Lynx, ex-freedom fighter with a luck-bending aura! His super-jinx can turn any situation against our enemies. Shard the original Metal Sonic repurposed for our cause, needless to say his power bolsters our power ten-fold".
"Yo" the robot said.
"Silver, our time-traveling powerhouse. What Shard can't handle Silver most certainly can. And Tangle, an agile young fighter from a different dimension with quite surprising skills that can get us out of trouble".
The roll call was finished and Elias finally could say his opinion.
"Are you crazy?" he whispered to Harvey "Time travelers and other dimension- Larry aside, none of this agents have any interest in the republic. What gives Harvey?"
"This doesn't bode well" Shard commented with the rest of the team also showing some signs of disgust towards this apathetic reaction.
"You listen to me, Sonic and his Team Fighters are away, Rotor and Team Freedom cannot fight Naugus legally. These young heroes come from all over to stop his evil before it spreads. They're willing to leave their normal lives and fight the fight that nobody else can or will... The only question left is: Are you?"
After Harvey's little speech, Elias lowered his head fully listening thinking through it realizing that maybe being so quick to judge the people he should rely on just based on first impressions which also gave him a bad first impression instead.
"Alright team," he said firmly once again "I'm late to the party and the city is under attack, give me the crash course. We've got egg-swats to fight!"
And they surely did, right now Mobotropolis was under attack by -surprise- Eggman with mostly a bunch of the Metal Series and ground robots, Metal Sonic, Metal Tails and Metal Amy, now that the real Sonic, Tails and Amy were far away in another mission, the mad scientist was free to try it once again on the city with a new method of approach, but of course just because three main heroes were gone didn't mean that the entire town was defenseless, the team that was currently in charge of protecting it was Team Freedom, a team consisting of Rotor the Walrus, Cream the Rabbit and Big the Cat trying to do their best to repel the menacing robots along with the military of Mobotropolis as well.
And they were doing a great job to say the least but not enough, the progress they had made was very little with mostly beating up badniks here and there but the tide of the battle didn't seem to change and after the Metal Series joined the fight it practically became more complicated. Especially because there was a big hole in the middle of the city that was caused by another attack weeks ago, so the robots were forcing the troops to retreat as much as they could to the middle of the battlefield and honestly the robots were actually progressing in the fight... Until someone intervened.
In a rapid flash, a black blur decimated a line of robots in a flash so fast everyone thought someone else shot it. And this was not the only one, across the whole city more badniks were being defeated, some of them because they tripped on something, others were beaten the classic way with punches and kicks, or some psychokinesis getting in the way of the robots making it easier for them to be defeated. A crossbow expert was making its job secretly assisting other fighters in the field from a distance while some robots' machinery just simply had a malfunction on a very crucial action moment... Very lucky I guess. With this help from the shadows the tide of the battle took a noticeable turn
The Metal Series bots also met their demise after this intervention with Metal Sonic getting handled by obviously another Metal Sonic, Shard.
"Time to show you what a real Metal Sonic can do, junior!" he said right after grabbing him flying incredibly far away from the main fighting zone with Shard being fully in control of it and just to show off making a few spins in the air before finally crashing on the side of a hill completely destroying the robot with ease "Yeah, accept no imitations".
After a few more minutes the battle was over with the Death Egg in the vicinity retreating along with some Egg Swat's that managed to survive.
"Way to go team," congratulated Rotor once the coast was clear "It's weird though, it seems like someone else was helping to take out the ground forces but who..?"
"Don't worry. Be happy!" stated Big in a very charismatic way as always.
"Yeah, guess that works too".
With their first mission as a team finished, the Secret Freedom Fighters returned to their base where pats on the back could be given.
"Looks, like I owe you an apology Harvey..." stated Elias once they finally settled down "And to the rest of you, I was wrong. You have the makings of a great team and I'm proud to be among you. Next, we'll deal with Ixis Naugus!"
Second part of the adventure finished! A bit short for what I would have liked and it might be a bit hard to keep track of who's who during the battle with no previous knowledge but I feel like it adds to the mystery dynamic of the team... I think, I hope. Next time we'll focus on their true mission splitting them into two teams, for those who have read the comic, can you guess which one will join Tangle?
