Jennifer took in a breath as she realised that their back garden looked out on to their own patch of golden Sandy beach. There were two chairs planted nicely in the sand, a small table and a large umbrella overhead to shade them. A bit off to one side there was two sun loungers and a small table in the middle for drinks.

"Melanie will bring your breakfast to that table in the morning if you like. There is a menu by your bed. If you just phone in your order she will be happy to accommodate you."

"That's wonderful,"Jennifer smiled, "this is all wonderful."

Jonathan had to laugh. "I'm going to have some job getting her to come home."

They were shown into the little house, a man was at the fireplace building up a small fire.

"There's going to be a storm tonight but that will all clear away by tomorrow morning. The fire will keep you cozy and warm." Gill said, putting a hand to Jennifers shoulder.

The man building up the fire was about Jonathan's age. He gave them a brief nod before heading out the door.

"We will leave you in peace now," Gill told them. "Any requests or problems you can dial 0 for the reception office. It's open 24 hours a day."

"Thank you so much," Jennifer smiled.

Gill moved forward and gave her a warm hug. "You're very welcome Jennifer. I'm so glad you nice people won the prize."

As soon as they were all out the door Jennifer gave a squeak of delight. She ran into their bedroom and jumped on to the large four poster bed.

"Jonathan come look. This bed has a goose feather quilt and these pillows are huge."

Jonathan laughed at his wife full stretched on the bed like a happy little girl.

"I think we should go home Jennifer, I think you're not enjoying this holiday much."

Jennifer laughed as she reached out a hand to her husband to come and join her.

That night they snuggled up on the couch listening to the storm outside. Lightening lit up the four corners of the room as a loud clap of thunder rolled overhead.

The rain beat down on the window panes. Jennifer snuggled closer to Jonathan feeling sleepy and satisfied. They had just enjoyed a fabulous steak dinner and a bottle of apple wine. The fire crackled and snapped sending comforting waves of warmth to their faces.

Jonathan carefully took his arm from around her shoulder.

"I'll go get some more wood for the fire," he told her.

"Don't get wet," she told him but immediately closed her eyes again as he headed to the door.

Jonathan knew the wood pile was kept in a little shed just beside the house. He was out already to get wood. Now of course the rain was lashing down on his head so he hurried towards it. He stopped short as someone was at the woodpile.

"Hello,"

The figure immediately straightened up. Jonathan could see it was a boy of about 13 years. He was lean and short with matted hair strands streaked across his flushed face.

"I was just bringing you some more wood," he said in a voice not fully broken.

"Thank you but you're soaking wet. Do you want to come in and dry off."

The boy was backing away. "No thank you sir."

He picked up his bucket and hurried out of the gate and down the cobbled path. Jonathan grabbed an armful of wood and headed back into the house.

"Who were you talking to Jonathan?" Jennifer asked, she was sitting up now.

"A kid, he was bringing us some wood."

Jennifer looked out at the driving rain and back at Jonathan.

"I know, he was soaked."

"You should have brought him in Jonathan. We could have given him a tip."

Jonathan grimaced at that, "I never thought of that. I should have given him something."

"Never mind, we'll probably see him tomorrow. What is it Jonathan?"

Jonathan shook his head, "Probably nothing it's just that he looked really young. It was late for him to be out."

"He was probably related to Gill and Uri." Jennifer said adjusting the cushion behind her head. Jonathan put a large log on the fire and sat back down beside her.

"You're probably right. " He said as he kissed the top of her head.

That night they made love in the large four poster bed. The storm was starting to pass over. Jonathan swept his lips across her neck and throat as his wife's gentle sigh filled the silence of the room.

"Oh Jonathan," she breathed as he pushed gently into her again and again relishing in her heaving breaths and the small sounds she made as he worked. He captured her mouth in his and kissed her deeply his tongue massaging hers as they moved together. She ran her slim fingers up his chest lighting fires with every single touch. Finally they collapsed in each other's arms glistening with perspiration as they tried to catch their breath.

They lay side by side then just listening to the sounds of the waves crashing in close by and the wild birds calling to each other in the wind.

"What are you thinking," Jennifer asked in the dark.

"I was just thinking, we should have done this long before now. I have been working much too hard lately."

"You were busy with that new medical supply contract. I was busy too with covering the fashion week. It's nobody's fault."

Jonathan took her in his arms.

"From now on we are going to holiday twice a year regardless of our schedules. I missed this."

"So did I. It's been way too long. We've been leading near separate lives. We really needed this holiday. Are you glad you came now Jonathan."

"Absolutely," he grinned as he raised a hand to stroke a finger down her cheek.

Jennifer let him sleep in, he hadn't had a chance to sleep late in God knows how long. She put on sweat pants and running shoes and headed out on a quest to find croissants for breakfast. She walked along the cobblestone path until she came to the row of shops she had seen the night before. There were a group of children in bathing suits buying penny candies with their coins. Jennifer smiled at the harrassed looking store keeper as he tried to fill their complex order of penny limes and cool pops. She walked further on and came to a restaurant with cheerful open air seating outside. Sure enough they had croissants, they were still warm and smelt delicious. She bought four with butter and a small pot of jelly. They had complimentry coffee back at the house.

Jennifer smiled as Gill was sitting at one of the tables when she came out of the shop. She had a large round fan and was fanning herself against the heat.

"It is hot isn't it," Jennifer said.

"Yeah but also I have asthma so I get breathless in this weather."

"Oh I am sorry," Jennifer frowned.

"How do you like your accomodation?"

"We love it. The house is so beautiful."

Gill took in a breath which looked like a struggle for her. Jennifer frowned as she took a seat beside her.

"I have an excellent doctor, I could give her your name. She's very good with things like that."

Gill shook her head with a smile. "Thank you Jennifer. I've had it all my life. I lived in a cramped basement apartment with my mother and four brothers. There's wasn't much ventilation. My mother was a smoker so you can imagine..."

"I can," Jennifer said. "At least here you can get the benefit of the sea breezes."

"Yes, I always swore when I was older that I would live out my life in a healthy environment and here it is."

"It certainly is impressive," Jennifer smiled.

"It took so long to get this place kitted out Jennifer. For a while I thought it would never happen. I thought my dream was simply that, a dream but with time it all came together."

The waiter came up just then, before Jennifer could refuse Gill ordered them a cup of coffee each and a doughnut. The waiter nodded and headed back into the cafe.

"I hope you don't mind Jennifer. I like your company. You and Jonathan strike me as my kind of people. "

"Not at all," Jennifer smiled as she cradled the no longer hot croissants in her lap.

They were talking and laughing about their school days when Jonathan came up.

"Ah this is where you are, I should have known."

He was about to pull up a seat to join them when Gill got up.

"You sit here Jonathan I have to go do some work."

"Oh Gill, it was so nice to talk to you," Jennifer smiled takng her hand.

"You too Jennifer, I hope you and Jonathan enjoy your time here. It sounds like you deserve a vacation."

Gill gave them a final wave and hurried off down the cobbled stone path. Just beyond the cobble stone walk was the beach. Jonathan smiled out at the crashing waves as he sat down.

"Hungry darling?" Jennifer asked.

"No dearest, I'm starving...I could eat you infact." he grinned over menacingly.

"Scrambled eggs and toast coming up." she grinned as she got up. Jonathan gave her a playful slap on the behind as she went back into the restaurant.

Jonathan sat back in his chair and waited for his food to arrive. His smile faded as he noticed the boy on the beach. He was the same boy who was delivering wood in the rain last night. He had a bag with him and he was now picking up debris and bits of paper from the beech. He wore a green jacket and hat. It looked like some kind of uniform.

"Hot buttered toast and home made honey to go with your scrambled eggs. I think we are going to have to hit the gym after this holiday," Jennifer said as she put the plates down on the table.

Jonathan nodded.

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah I'm fine darling," Jonathan said as he watched the child stumble on dragging his bag after him.
