Harry awoke early in the morning, say 5 am, due to another nightmare. Leading up to the days coming to Hogwarts, his nightmares had come back stronger than ever. However, last night's seemed to be just like any other one- ending in Harry shooting upright in bed, a cold sweat coating his body as his breathing was quick and shallow.
He went down to the common room until 7am, which was when kids began to get out of bed and go downstairs. Harry sat up once he seen Ron stumble downstairs, eyes squinted and hair messy and wild as ever. Harry kept himself from laughing.
Harry walked up next to Ron, "Ron, do you want to head to the Great Hall?" He asked. Ron looked around and sure enough, coming up right behind him was Hermione. He nodded and smiled at Hermione. Harry was a third wheel once again, but didn't mind too bad. He was happy for them.
As they approached the Great Hall's doors, Harry felt dainty fingers graze his shoulder. He jumped slightly and quickly turned his head, only to meet familiar eyes and red coloured hair. Ginny.
Ginny smiled sweetly at him, and Harry blushed. "Hey, Harry. How was your sleep?" She asked. Harry stuttered slightly, but was able to tell her it was good, and was even able to ask her how her's went. "Mine was fine. Can I sit with you?" Harry gulped and nodded.
Ron didn't say much about Ginny and Harry, only side eyeing them before digging into breakfast. Harry was the same, not speaking much. Instead, he looked out at the Slytherin's table, keeping an eye out for a certain blonde boy. Draco was the same as yesterday, only today he actually played with his food instead of just staring at it. Eventually, he dropped the fork with a tired expression.
"Harry? You seem tense. Are you alright?" Ginny put her hand on his knee. Harry gulped some food down and raised an eyebrow at her.
"Yeah, um, just...Thinking about classes, y'know?" She nodded and left him alone, eating in silence. Once they were all finished, they were given their schedules. First thing was Potions with Snape, which he already didn't fancy. He hated going down to the dungeons. It always sent chills up his spine just thinking about.
Ron had Transfigurations first thing with Hermione, so they had to say goodbye. Unfortunately, Ginny was even gone for Herbology. Hopefully, this meant his day will only get better.
Walking into class with his books, he noticed he was rather early. He decided on a spot in the back. He just sat and waited, feeling himself getting antsy. He was never one to be patient.
Just as he was about to get up to go use the bathroom, to pass his time, a tall blonde walked in. Draco Malfoy. Harry's eyes widened and he quickly plopped himself back in his chair. He gulped and decided to open his book, to look like he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. Harry's eyes subtly darted over to Draco every now and then, subconsciously memorizing where he sat.
His friends around him laughed and talked, but Draco was stone faced and it seemed like he was anywhere else but the conversation.. Then, Snape walked in dramatically and closed the windows with a wave of his wand. "We will start on page 69." Nobody laughed. Only the flipping of pages sounded.
Then, there were slow, heavy footsteps coming towards Harry. He hesitantly picked his eyes up, trailing up the body of a black figure until he met a pair of dark, sunken eyes.
Professor Snape looked down at him in disdain, "Harry Potter..." He slowly greeted. Everyones eyes were surely on them.
"Severus Snape." Harry confidently shot back, slightly furrowing his eyebrows and staring back at his Professor with just as much passion. Severus' eyes widened a second. It was overwhelming to look into the eyes of Lily, especially with such negative emotion. He quickly turned around and dashed towards the front of the class. Before Harry looked back down, he looked to where Draco was sitting and Draco, sure enough, was staring back. Rather than smug, glaring eyes, those grey orbs were wide and wondrous. Almost curious. A hint of fear, perhaps?
Like a cat's eyes when they teeter on the decision to come up to you, but don't know if you're a threat or not. Draco was the first to look away, looking down at his book and turning himself forwards. Harry gulped. Was this an act? To look like the victim, to get pity? Harry decided he couldn't get an answer right away, he'd need to keep a record for at least a few days. And that's exactly what he was going to do.
The class continued as usual, but Harry couldn't stop losing his attention thinking about Malfoy. He felt drawn to him, for some reason. He wanted answers, he wanted to talk to him.
He wanted to get involved, just like Ron said not to do.
Ofcourse, he knew he couldn't. Draco wouldn't just open up to Harry like that, even if they were friends. However, if they were somewhat friendly towards eachother, maybe Harry could keep a closer, more accurate eye on him. After all, Draco was the one who wanted friendship in the first place. Harry wonders if the other remembers that time. Harry stared into the distance in deep thought, lower lip between his teeth.
"Potter...arry...ry Potter!" Harry jumped as the use of his name. His eyes landed on the stern, angry ones of his Professor.
"Sorry, Professor." Harry cleared his throat, ignoring the giggles around him and the cute smiles girls were giving him. He ignored them all. He couldn't be bothered by girls right now. Once again, he looked at Draco and they locked eyes. Harry quickly looked away to his book and realized he was 5 pages behind everyone else. He decided to save the hard thinking about non-school matters for after class.
