"Let's battle, loser!" shouted Gary, pointing at Red.
The other boy just smirked and pointed his Ditto to enter the battle. Before they left the first route, the boy had laid some ground rules and commands. He taught his pokemon to move according to his various signals instead of his voice. He also taught them to make combos on their own and trust in the correct instincts. Red never saw the appeal of shouting and letting his enemies know his strategies. Deception and information gathering were part of the battle, after all.
He'd encountered the little shit Gary right in front of Veridian, just on the route to the left. Dude just went up to challenge him without even a greeting. Well, not that he didn't like that. Red grinned. People waste too much time talking nonsense, was what he thought.
"Tsk. Giving me the silent treatment again? We both know you're not really mute. I stumbled upon you talking to pokemon years ago, after all," complained Gary as he waved his arms exaggeratedly before throwing the ball he had at hand.
"Pidgey, pop that blob!" A pidgey zapped out of the ball and into the open arena. It squawked its iconic cry.
Red cracked his neck before he signalled his Ditto to transform. The pokemon began to vibrate and stretch, moving and bouncing around... before it reverted back into its original form. It looked back at its trainer and said, "...ditto..."
"..." Red felt his left eye twitch.
Gary started, "Hahahaha! Your ditto can't even transform! Are you sure you're an actual trainer?"
He then commanded his pokemon, "Pidgey, peck!"
Red signalled the ditto to dodge. He was NOT about to lose to this bitch-ass. Not now, not ever. The ditto flawlessly moved away from the attack. The ditto had speed, at least that's what it got going for it, the young trainer thought. He quickly signalled it to counterattack with a tackle, to which it performed smoothly.
The ditto jumped into attacking range... and launched the poor pidgey straight onto a tree. Everyone heard the sound of cracking. Whether it was the tree or the pokemon who made the noise, no one knew. The bird fell down, the trunk behind it looked chipped of a bit, and the bird's wing was bent into an unnatural angle. Well, guess everybody knew what caused the noise now.
"Pidgey!" shouted Gary as he ran over to it.
Red looked at his ditto, who was bouncing around without a care in the world, shocked. The thing might not be able to transform, but it sure as hell was fast and powerful. Red's mind was quick to form strategies and simulations surrounding his Ditto's new found abilities.
Gary quickly put his pidgey inside its ball and ran to the town's direction. He was stopped by the sound of throat clearing made by his rival. He turned to see the boy had his hand out, as if he were waiting for a prize.
Gary's face scrunched up as he said, "You bastard..."
He pulled his money out of the pocket and threw it at the other boy before running towards the pokemon center. Red smirked as he picked up the money from the ground. Red two, loser zero.
Shitshitshit! He almost killed that poor bird. While he was no stranger to murder and torture, Rimuru couldn't help but feel bad for injuring one of his favorite gen 1 pokemon. He let out much more power than he initially anticipated. Things were just much harder to control without his assistant around.
The great demon lord opted to train the strength more in the future to prevent this from happening again. He hopped over after trainer Red as he walked to the city of Veridian. Rimuru couldn't help but think that there was something unusual about Red. Then again, no ordinary ten year old would be able to defeat all the trainers in Kanto and take the name of champion for himself.
He looked forward for that day to come.
