Bistrița, Rumania
2012
The sun little by little began to illuminate the city of Bistrița, little by little the rays of the sun began to enter through the window of a dark and gothic room with a poster of Evanescence, Within Temptation and another.
At that moment the ambulance-shaped alarm clock begins to ring, a hand comes out between the sheets and deactivates it.
A beautiful twenty-two or twenty-three year old girl with long black hair, pale skin, reddish brown eyes, and slightly long fangs gets up, looks at her watch, and sees that it is almost seven in the morning.
She gets up and goes to her private bathroom to get up, takes a quick bath, puts on a black blouse with the image of a skull, a black knee-length skirt, black boots, and a black apron. She puts on a dark gray headband and leaves her room to go down to the bakery.
Look at your door and window to make sure they are closed and nothing can be seen from the outside, when confirming it you make a few movements with your hand and a violet mist comes out and all the lights begin to turn on, like the oven, they moved by themselves the bakery utensils and began to mix ingredients together.
While she was preparing the bread, she went to the small kitchen that was a little behind and began to prepare breakfast, checking that everything was in order. She prepares six scrambled eggs and serves them on three plates, serves three glasses of juice, meets them on three trays, one includes small chopped fruit and the other bacon.
She puts the bread in the oven and climbs the stairs with two trays with her hand, approaches a door and enters, approaches the bed where is a seventy-year-old man, white skin, gray hair and reddish brown eyes, coughing. a bit strong.
"Good morning little brother." She said with a smile as she set breakfast on the nightstand. "I brought you breakfast, it's time for your medicine."
The man stops coughing and looks at his breakfast and then looks at the girl.
"My sister taking care of me as always." he said she with a smile.
Helena smiles and kisses his forehead, leaves the room and walks towards the door where she has the pictures of cars and figurines pasted, she knocks on the door and opens it to see a five-year-old boy floating his eyes.
"Good morning Alex." she said with a smile.
"Good morning, Aunt." Alex said with a cute smile.
"I brought you breakfast, get up, you have school today." she said as she put the tray down on the desk. "Don't be late, I'll wait for you downstairs." she said before leaving the room
Helena comes downstairs, waves her hand, and the oven opens and the freshly baked breads ready for sale float out. After a while she checks that everything is ready and she goes to breakfast. Minutes later she brings her brother ready for her to start the day, she looks at her sister
"Ready Helena?"
"Ready, Remus." Snapped her fingers
The window and door are opened and the sign changes from closed to open.
The famous Elvira Bakery and Pastry was ready for a new day of sales
"I hope your daughter likes the cake" Helena said with a smile as she handed her the ticket.
"I don't doubt it, my family loves your cakes." said a lady as she carefully took the cake. "Thank you Helena." Leaving the store."
"Bye."
"Mrs. Stan doesn't lie" said an old woman as she approached with a tray. "You make breads and cakes like your grandmother used to do," she said as she looked at a photo from the 1950s of a girl identical to Helena. "You even have the same name as her." she smiling.
"Yes, I am like my grandmother." she said with a smile as she packed the bread.
"You have no idea, she would be proud of you." she hands him the money and grabs her bread. "Have a nice day."
"Goodbye."
"If she only knew she was talking to your grandmother at the same time." Remus whispered in amusement as he approached her.
Helena smiles a little and goes to wash her hands.
Helena looks in the mirror and contemplates her reflection, she knew the lady, she played with her when she was a child after earning enough money to support her brother. She evidently believes that she is the granddaughter of the Helena she knows and that her grandmother died of an incurable disease years ago in America.
During seventy years she has changed her identity 5 times, from Helena she left for three years and returned as Minerva, then she left for a while and returned as Sara, then as Blanca, Gina and currently she returned with her old name with the identity of that she is her own granddaughter who comes from America.
It is not difficult to fool humans, the difficult thing is to find someone who makes false documents that are becoming more and more expensive due to the advancement of technology.
"Everything okay Helena?" Remusasked worriedly, he noticed how his sister looked at herself in the mirror.
"Yes." Helena replied as she looked at him with a small smile. "I'm good." look at the clock. "God, it's time for your medicine." going for them.
"I'm not sick Helena."
"But at your age you must take care of yourself, that's what the doctor said." she said as she grabs the pills and a glass of water. "Take it."
Remus rolls his eyes and takes his medicine, his sister was somewhat protective of him since the Nazis took their parents away. He cares for his sister since she barely did anything for her in her life, when she is going to get a new identity it is the little time that she lives longer for her than to be aware of him.
Remus wanted to talk to her, but the doorbell rings, they both turn and look at a man in his thirties, brown hair and glasses who looks around with a big smile.
"So this is the famous bakery, it smells delicious" he said as he approached some breads.
"Good afternoon." Helena walks over to him. "What can we do for you?"
"Good afternoon, I'm Mr. Morgan. I'd like to speak to the owner of the place."
"The owner of the place was my father, I am his son, Remus." approaching him.
"A pleasure Mr. Remus." shaking his hand. "My wife has told me about this bakery, let me tell her that I have already tried it and it is the most delicious bread I have ever tasted in my life."
"You have no idea how we like to hear that." Helena said with a smile.
"Yes, I own one of the best-known restaurants in Transylvania," he said with a big smile. "Do you know about the Monster Festivall that will be in a few days in Transylvania?
Remus and Helena exchange glances, they had heard of that festival but had never been to see it, in fact, they had never been to Transylvania.
"We have listened but we never have." Helena replied.
"Really?" Mr. Morgan asked incredulously and both brothers nodded. "Wow, well, never mind. I'd like to invite you all to participate in the festival." he hands Remus a brochure.
Remus grabs it and reads it along with Helena.
MONSTER FESTIVAL
Dessert contest
"Apart from your breads, you prepare the best cakes in Romania, I would like to invite you to participate."
"Aaammm sure." Helena said that she wasn't quite sure. "Just tell us how many you want and when you want them and we will have them ready for you to take." she pulling her notebook out of her apron.
"No, no, you are not understanding me, I am inviting you to participate, you two have to go to transylvania." explained Mr. Morgan.
Remus looks at him in surprise and Helena giggles at that.
"Go to Transylvania?" Helena asked incredulously, Mr. Morgan nods. "Aaamm, I don't think so, my uncle can't travel that far, it is not good for his health."
"But Transylvania is about two hours from here." Remus said, Helena gives him a bad look. "I'm not in bad health and you know it."
Helena sighed.
"Listen sir, I appreciate you wanting to invite us but we can't leave the business for a few days, besides, my cousin is a boy and he can't miss school"
"But we will think about it." Remus said.
"Remus!" Helena looks at him badly.
"Excellent." Mr. Morgan said with a big smile. "I hope that if you agree to go, I will return to Transylvania in three days, here is my card." handing it over to Remus. "I look forward to your call soon."
"We will call you."
"Ok, good afternoon Mr. Remus, miss." he said, walking out of the store.
As soon as Mr. Morgan leaves, Helena gives her brother a bad look and walks to check the oven.
"Hey, don't make that face."
"You know very well what I think of Transylvania." she said without seeing him.
"But if you've never been, you only say so because of what our father told you about that spooky place." said with an amused gesture.
"Our father said it because of what my mother told him." taking the bread out of the oven.
"Which is a place you should never go, especially you, since all the monsters were there."
"That's right, and I'm the last monster left in the world, or half of one." arranging the loaves. "If I go to Transylvania for sure my powers could activate something or awaken my vampiric instincts that could drive me crazy."
"Oh could find something about your vampire side that will help you understand it better."
"I doubt it."
Helena didn't want to admit it, but she was always curious to know more about the vampire side of her, but her mother died before her powers awakened, her father only told her what he knew and the books didn't help much.
The day continued quietly, Helena approaches the door to close it and changes the sign from open to closed. She closes the curtains and you can't see anything from inside the bakery outside.
She goes upstairs and watches her brother and nephew eat in the dining room while laughing. Helena smiles seeing them happy.
"So are we going to Transylvania ?!" Alex asked excitedly.
Helena's smile fades upon hearing that.
"That's the idea, but your aunt doesn't want to go." Remus said, pretending to be sad. "Your grandfather wants to go."
Helena raises an eyebrow as she walks into her room.
"Aunt!" Alex runs towards her. "Aunt, can we go to Transylvania?"
"No Alex, my father always said that we should get away from that city." Helena said a little serious. "Besides, you have to go to school."
"But your mother was born in Transylvania."
"Yes, but her castle was destroyed hundreds of years ago."
"Aren't you curious to know the land of Mama Elvira?" Alex asked.
Helena looks at him for a moment but instead of answering she decides to pick up the dishes, if she wanted to go to see the land where she met her mother, she had always wanted to go to Transylvania but her father had told her no, she still did not understand why. Surely because of her vampire powers or there was something, but she didn't understand that, she was the only monster left in the world, she repeated it over and over again.
"Come on sister, we've never been to Transylvania and it's only two hours to go." Remus said, approaching her.
"I know but..."
"Don't tell me you never wanted to go, see the place and see if there are more like you or find what dad said about love for monsters like love at first sight?"
"The Zing?" Helena turns to see him.
"What!"
"I do not deny that I always wanted to find my Zing, but I doubt that he exists" washing the dishes.
"What about our father and your mother?" Remus raises an eyebrow.
Helena didn't know what to answer.
"Come on auntie, we have to go to Transylvania, I want to go to that festival!" Alex said jumping with excitement. "Some friends will go."
"We can close the bakery on those days, we have no pending orders." Remus said.
"We haven't been out of town in a long time." Alex said.
"It would be like a family trip and if we are lucky we can win." Remus said.
Helena turned to see them and watches as they both look at her with the eyes of an abandoned puppy with folded hands. She raises an eyebrow, she knew they wouldn't stop until she said yes, and besides she was sure Remus would go.
"Okay." Helena said, Remus and Alex smiled. "I think it would do me good to know my mother's land." smiling a little. "All right, we're going to Transylvania."
"Yes!" Alex yelled excitedly.
