Pokémon Brayden: FireRed Prologue

Chapter 2

Brayden was now standing at the northern exit of Pallet Town. "There's Route 1," he thought to himself. "And past it, Viridian City. The Professor will have to come through here eventually, so I just have to run through the grass, find him, and get him to pick up the pace so I can get my Pokémon and start my journey."

There was just one problem with this plan. Stepping into tall grass is often seen as an act of aggression by wild Pokémon. None of the Pokémon on this Route are known to be dangerous, but a kid like Brayden could still get hurt by a Rattata's Bite without a Pokémon to protect them. That wouldn't be a good look for a future Champion.

"Maybe I should just go back to the lab after all." As Brayden pondered his next action, a small bird covered in brown and white feathers emerged from the edge of the grass! "Pidgey!" It screeched angrily. Brayden jumped backwards in shock. "What?! A wild Pidgey?! But I didn't go into the grass! What are you mad at me for? Go away!"

The little Pidgey didn't take kindly to being scolded. As it screeched again, it began flapping its wings, stirring up wind. A Gust attack! As Brayden braced himself for the sharp winds to strike him, a familiar voice rang out from behind the Pidgey. "Quickly, Pidgeotto, use Whirlwind!"

A sharper screech than Pidgey's was heard, then a larger gust of wind began swirling around Pidgey, canceling out its attack and making it dizzy. After a few seconds, the twister jerked and flung the Tiny Bird Pokémon far out into the distance. Then, a larger looking bird with pinkish-red feathers on its head flew into the same spot the Pidgey just was. This was Pidgeotto, Pidgey's evolved form! And the only person in Pallet Town that Brayden knew to have one was running up to them with a very concerned look on his face.
"Professor Oak!" Brayden exclaimed, with both relief and excitement filling him up inside. At last, now he could receive his Pokémon and Pokédex! Professor Oak smiled at him.

"Brayden! Good morning to you." The Professor turned to Pidgeotto and stroked its feathers. "Good work, my friend. Seems we made it just in time." Pidgeotto happily chirped in response. Oak pulled out a Poké Ball and pressed the button. Brayden watched as a red light enveloped the Bird Pokémon and pulled it inside the round capsule before it closed. "Now then, why don't we head to the lab so we can get you started on your journey?"

"Yes, sir!" Brayden grinned.
