J felt something for Emily. Maybe she had deep down for a long time. But it was really coming back to haunt her now. She was sitting in the round table room, Garcia briefing the team on the case, looking over to the brunette. She fiddled with her pen, trying to distract herself from thinking about her, from looking at her.
Emily Prentiss.
She was her best friend, but she was also extremely attractive. Her eyes, her breasts, her infectious smile and her long brunette hair.
Maybe these feelings were just because she'd recently broke up with Will. If so, she didn't want to rebound with Prentiss. Even if she was going to fly back to London once Hotch was no longer on temporary duty, she didn't want to ruin such a good friendship like that. Or hurt Emily like that.
That's if the feelings were mutual.
JJ thought they might be mutual. She knew Emily had dated women in the past, and since she'd been back in the states, she'd noticed signs that would suggest the feelings were mutual. The way Emily smiled whenever she saw JJ. Her face lighting up when she entered the office each morning after the school run. Emily's face didn't light up like that for the other team members.
Her pupils would dilate when she looked into JJ's eyes, and the way they hugged felt different.
JJ was actually certain the feelings were mutual.
But it was too soon to get into a relationship after Will. She needed time. It wouldn't be fair on either of them to start dating now if Emily was only going to fly back to London soon. She wasn't sure she could make something that long-distance work. Especially not with their erratic work schedules. If she said something now, she'd just hurt the both of them.
JJ really didn't need more hurt right now. Especially not relationship hurt. It felt easier to just bury down her feelings for Emily, at least for now. Until the time came, they were more permanently on the same side of the globe until it had been long enough since Will for her not to be a rebound.
She tried to focus her mind on her team's voices and the case and away from her attraction towards Emily. She was glad Emily wasn't her partner for this case. It would be easier to hide those feelings she felt she had for her friend and colleague.
Now wasn't the time. And what if they weren't real. She figured it would be best to wait, hold off disclosing until she knew they were real and not just because she was lonely. That way, fewer people would be hurt.
