Chapter 2

'It looks fucking ridiculous, for a ship...' I scowled at the rude voice in the back of my head as I continued staring at Thousand Sunny in awe.

"Don't be rude, Starr. She's beautiful... " I muttered under my breath in irriation.

"She is, isn't she?" I jumped, startled at the cyborg appearing out of seemingly nowhere. "She's my SUPER dream project! OW!"

He struck his usual pose, forearms together at an angle above his head. I knew she was his dream, of course, but I grinned and nodded anyway. Franky had a bandana tied around his head, a partially filled canvas bag tied at his waist, and a flat metal tool that looked like a paint scrapper in hand, along with a few other tools hanging from a carpenter's belt.

"Why is Sunny pulled up on shore, anyway? Just curious." I scratched at an ear with a single finger.

"Barnacle duty!" Franky patted the cloth bag at his side then dropped a fist to his hip. "There's also the matter of fixing some areas of the hull that took some damage in the last couple battles. And I haven't been able to fully repair all the damages from TottoLand yet. A new roof for the galley is still in the works while we sail. We'll be here a couple days, so I'm taking full advantage of the opportunity to repair the hull right now."

Taking in his reply, I could see the tale tale signs of the damage the Sunny had taken that had yet to be fully repaired. My attention was drawn to Zoro struggling with a particulary stubborn barnacle and snickered as he cursed at it in frustration before it finally gave way for the man.

"Here, allow me." I felt my hand-made bag be lifted from my shoulder and turned to Robin behind me. She had the few other things of mine from my camp at her feet, to which she added my bag and crossed her arms over her chest "Seis fleur!"

And away everything went, up the side of the ship, passed up by multiple hands. Once again, I know what world I'm in but I was still in complete awe. Could my own fruit be that useful after some practice with it?

Shaking myself from my awe, I turned back to Franky, a hand on the back of my neck as I looked up at his massive frame "So.. uhh... yeah.. can I help?"

With a grin and a laugh, Franky guided me by the shoulders further down the ship's hull. And so, I got to learn the gruelling work of scrapping barnacles, with one Ms. Arianna Starr snickering at my struggles in the background of my mind.

By the end of the day, I was worn out. After spending several hours helping scrape barnacles, Nami showed me to the room I would be sharing with her and Robin. With having only what I had on for clothes, she went on a mission to finding me something to wear after she had shoved me into the bathroom and showed me how to operate the faucet. The hot bath felt like the greatest thing ever, well other then having all of my energy sapped from me the longer I soaked after washing my hair and bathing. I think I was half dozed off when Nami stuck her head in the door with a handful of clothes.

"Since Robin and I seem to be a smaller size then you, I had to ask the guys for some spare clothes. Come out whenever you're ready. Just don't fall asleep and drown, or I'll have to charge you."

Ahh, there's the Nami I was expecting. I gave her a hint of a smile as she grinned broadly, leaving the clothes just inside the door, and was gone. I guess it's time to get out. Before I fall asleep in the bath. Because I tend to fall asleep in odd places...

I climbed from the tub, wrapping a towel around my hair and drying off the rest of me. I frowned at myself, poking my hip bones that were starting to show. I eyed my reflection for a moment in the mirror, patting my cheeks. They looked a little sunken in. I had lost a bit of weight while I was on the island, yet my hips were just as wide as ever. But my body was borderline sickly looking. Maybe Chopper didn't really notice when he checked me over, because he didn't mention it. I sighed, finishing drying off and turned my attention to getting dressed.

Out of the stack of clothes, I ended up with what appeared to be one of Franky's colorful button down shirts and a pair of Ussop's oversized overalls. Thank you for your baggy clothes, Ussop.. I still had some room in the pants around my hips and thighs, so I at least didn't feel constricted, because these hips, man.. they're too much sometimes...even if I had lost a bit of weight off me. Franky's shirt almost swallowed me, but that's okay. I loved baggy clothes.

I rolled the sleeves up and tied a knot in the hem at my side, then adjusted the overall straps, crisscrossed around my waist like a belt. Towel-drying and and finger-combing my clean burnett hair, it was tied up in a knot and I shoved my two sticks back into it to hold the entire mess in place. With a deep breath and a grin, I nodded at my appearance in the mirror. This would work. I was clean now, at least.

I left the bathroom and ended up in the library while I was looking for the main deck. Was this how Zoro felt? Of course, I didn't know my way around the ship just yet, either. It would figure I would get lost... After my own personal detour around the ship, I finally stepped out of the galley onto the upper deck and followed the railing, down the steps and onto the grassy lawn of the main deck. Luffy was laid out on the grass with his hands tucked behind his head and eyes closed. Was he napping? I tried to stay quiet as I eased onto the grass and gently lowered myself to sit nearby, legs crossed and hands on my ankles as I looked about the ship in curiousity.

I couldn't help myself. I kept catching myself going back and forth between studying the ship and studying Luffy's still form. I could only assume he was napping while I took in his face then shifted my gaze along his neck and toned chest to the massive scar that laid bare on his chest. I was saddened at the thought that I wouldn't get to meet Ace. Shaking myself, I continued trailing my eyes along smooth abdominal muscles to the ribcage that was bared to the world with the open cardigan shirt. I felt the blood rushing to my face as I caught myself molesting this younger man with my eyes and yanked my sights away to the swing sitting on the Sunny's deck. Still, unable to help myself, I glanced back to the napping captian to see him peering at me with one eye open and a smirk I couldn't call anything but sexy. I don't think my face could get any hotter. I bet I could put a firetruck to shame. His chuckle reached my ears. Nope, I was wrong. My face, now, felt like it was on fire. Curse my libido...

"See something you like?" I couldn't keep my eyes from glancing over at him. Luffy's smirk broadened into a grin as he pushed his hat down over his eyes and across the bridge of his nose. "I don't mind. Look all you want. I think you're good looking yourself."

Wait... what? Hold the fuck up... Rewind. Since when does Luffy openly indugle in any type of sexual invitations? Is there something I missed here? I was openly staring at this man now, this time in confusion and shock with wide eyes. Since when the fuck did Monkey D. Luffy flirt? Did Oda just not include this shit? I mean, yeah, I would believe it if none of the crew were still virgins. They are pirates, afterall. But... Luffy??? Flirting?? Openly flirting with someone he just met? I didn't know what to say. As if sensing my shock, he lifted his hat brim with a thumb and arched an eyebrow at me with a slight frown.

"Huh?? What's wrong?"

Thinking a moment before answering, I finally replied. "How often do you go flirting with people you just met? Or better yet, flirting in general?"

"Nah. Not people I just met. But my nakama, quite often. Why? Does it bother you? I'll tell the crew not to rush you into our fun nights if it does. I get it's not everyone's thing." I think my brain just exploded. Do what did Luffy just say?? "Oi! What's wrong now?"

My mouth flapped open like a fish for a moment before I recovered myself. "You.. and the whole crew? Everyone has orgies together in this crew?"

"Well, we are pirates." He shrugged as if it was the most obvious thing. "I love all my nakama. They don't all get together all the time or anything like that. But sometimes, it's a good stress reliever for everyone, plus it helps build bonds together, so it's a win across the board. Personally, I enjoy spending time with each of my crew, sexual or otherwise." Luffy reached over, stretching his arm the extra foot or so between us, and lifted my face so I met his eyes. "That'll include you too, Dot."

My face turned red all over again as I struggled not to tear my eyes away in embarrassment. Okay, so I wasn't expecting this, in any shape or form. Everyone has sex together on this crew? Is this something that was hidden throughout the manga and anime that you have to be looking for it or miss or something? Since when does Luffy have a freaking libido? Now, what the fuck do I do? Luffy released my chin and tucked his hand back under his head, a grin planted on his face as his continued to look at me. Finally, I looked away, resorting to fidgeting with the grass blades before growing bored and laying back in the grass with Luffy, watching the clouds overhead.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Groggily, I came to, the sun setting lower in the sky and the shade cast over Sunny having a chill to it. Rubbing my face, I pushed my glasses up to rub my eyes before looking around. Luffy was still laying a couple feet away, curled on his side now, with an arm under his cheek and hat laying behind his neck. Aww. I couldn't help but smile at how cute he was right then. As quietly as I could (which, I'm sure with Luffy's senses, probably wasn't very quiet), I pushed myself up from the deck and brushed myself off, then reached up to pull the sticks from my falling hair, letting the still damp mess fall to my waist. Shaking the tangles and loose grass from my hair, I looked around deck, taking everything in. The sails were drawen in, but the black Jolly Roger of the crew flew proudly at the top of both masts. I eyed the crows nest that doubled as Zoro's training room on the main mast. I shook my head. Nope. No way. Won't ever catch me up there. Deciding I didn't want vertigo, i lowered my gaze back down and over to the railing. Approaching the railing, but still staying several feet away, I looked down at the sandy beach below. It would seem that's where everyone else still was, down by the fire, while Luffy and i were on deck, napping. I started messing with my hair again, hands pulling it back into it's knot and sliding the sticks back in place.
"It looks good down, you know." I paused in my motions of sliding the second stick back in place as I looked back to the conundrum behind me.
"Yeah?" a little grin crossed my face. "Thanks. But it gets in the way, and I shed like a cat, so I keep it up.."
Luffy hummed as he stood, stretching then dusting himself off. He came over to where I stood then leaned (way too far, in my opinion) over the ship's railing. I could hear him inhaling deeply, giving out another hum, before turning back to look at me with the widest grin. "Sanji is cooking. You ready to go down?"
Was i ready to be catapulted off the ship? No, not really. But, I also knew that Luffy had better control over his landings then he tended to let on, for the most part. It made me wonder if he crashed landed purposely to freak his crew out. He laughed as I gave him a sideways look in contemplation.
"That's a secret. Don't tell them that." The grin on his face was full of mischief as he answered my thoughts. Did I say that outloud...? "Yup, sure did. You ready?"
I frowned about talking outloud again, but nothing I could do about it now. I eyed the young captain while chewing my lower lip. "I suspose so.. but only if you don't scare the shit out of me and fling me across the beach. I don't think my body could handle that type of abuse."
It's not like I could truefully say that I was too heavy to be carried up and down the ship's hull. I mean, I know (vaguely, as I hadn't witnessed in person) what kind of strength the men on this crew had, including timid Chopper and cowardly Ussop. Luffy laughed from where he stood at the railing, reaching out and pulling me to him. I couldn't help but gasp a little at the sudden movements and touch on my skin. I was way too touch starved, because casual touches like this shouldn't send shivers down my spine. He held me with one arm around my waist as he pulled us both up on the railing with his other hand. I clung to him with my face buried in his neck as we dropped to the beach below, his arm acting as a bungy cord as we decended.
Luffy was a bit nicer about it then Zoro was, at least, even if he still chuckled in amusement as he held me steady while I gained my bearings again before releasing me. I felt a tug on my hair as he darted away, yelling at Sanji for food. Man, poor Sanji. Better him, then me, though. With a head shake, I followed at a more leisurely pace. Sanji was finshing up at the, we'll call it a portable kitchen, since it seemed he had at least half of a kitchen out here, including a built in water system This must have been a Franky design.
I went to sit by Robin again, but was pulled into the spot between Luffy and Zoro by the captain's stretchy limbs. Once my butt hit the seat, my hair unraveled and fell in my face, causing me to reach for my hair sticks, but they were missing. Shoving the mess out of my face, I gave Luffy a mild stinkeye, to which he grinned broadly and laughed while showing my sticks in his hand, out of my reach. Huffing, I stepped away from the table to plait my hair back into a braid, then returned to my seat.
Rude, selfish, bastard..
"Shishishi, yup! That's me!" Luffy proclaimed proudly as I groaned at my slip up.
Gotta work on that.. At least he's not mad...
"Nope, not mad!"
"Fuck.." I gave myself a slap to the face, proceeding to make my nose bridge sting and my eyes and nose water once I remembered my glasses. "Oww..."
"You're funny, Dot."
"Glad you think so, captain..."
A plate was set in front of me, followed by Nami an Robin, before Luffy recieved his plate(s), along with the other guys. I gave Sanji a questioning look. Why was I the first served? The cooked noticed my inquisitive look and nonchalantely ashed his cigarette then pointed at me with it.
"I cooked this meal using your catch we brought back from your camp, so of course you get the first plate. And ladies are served first at my table. Simple, really."
I nodded. I knew that. Zeff taught chivary and all those sorts of things to Sanji, so I shouldn't be surprised. Seared fish over a bed of veggie fried rice and topped with a sauce that smelled of citrius. God, this smells so good... Am I drooling? Yes, I'm drooling...
"Hey, you gonna eat that?"
"Yes! I'm admiring!"
Pulling my plate closer towards myself, I shot Luffy another look. I was ready to defend my food. Luffy only burst out laughing and left my plate alone to sneak off of Ussop's plate while the sniper was telling Chopper a story about defeating a sea king for his meal, or something along those lines.
Supper ended eventually, with rounds of seconds, thirds, fifths, and tenths, followed by a fluffly, dark chocolate cake type dessert that squished and sounded like a sudded up sponge when pressed on. After poking at the odd cake, I finally shrugged to myself and ate it. I didn't know what it was, but it was delicious. It made me curious what Sanji's egg custard pie would taste like. I would be in heaven.
"...Dot..?"
"Wha..?" I looked up from my thoughts to Luffy eyeballing me. "What's up?"
"I asked, what's egg custard pie? Is it good?"
"I was just thinking about egg custard pie.."
"Yeah, you said you were curious what Sanji's egg custard pie would taste like." At that, I put my knuckles to my forehead in disconcertment. I really need to get control of just speaking my thoughts outloud.. "You do that a lot, huh?"
"Yes..." I groaned.
"Shishishishi, you're funny, Dot."
Heaving a sigh, I replied while hanging my head, "Glad you think so, captain..."
"So..." Luffy was back to eyeballing me.
"Yes?" We're starting to gather the crew's attention, by this point.
"What's this custard pie?" Oh right. I forgot about that... "What??! How can you forget just like that??"
Feeling my face heat up and flush from embarrassment, I shrugged in response, then proceeded to explain that egg custard was my favorite pie. Luffy was excited and eager after I described the sweet custard made from eggs, milk, sugar, and nutmeg.
~~~~~~~~~~~

Later that evening found me laying awake in the bed Franky had setup in record time in the girl's shared room. It had been a couple hours since we've all laid down in bed and I could hear Robin and Nami both sleeping soundly. Would it be rude to get up and leave the room while everyone else slept? Is that okay? I gave a soft sigh, brushing my hair from my face as I sat up. I felt like an invader. Pulling the blanket off my bed and wrapping it around my shoulders, I slipped out the door, in what I hope was a quiet manner. I found my way to the grassy deck without much issue and made myself comfortable on the soft, green blades, laying back to gaze at the millions of twinkling stars.

I awoke to what could be only discribed a morning chaos. Loud shouts and laughter from the galley above, the sun barely over the horizen and the last night star fading into the light of day, outshown by its closer fellow star. I stretched out on the grass with a yawn then sat up. The smells of breakfast (eggs and fat, particually) did it's normal thing it always used to do before I was standed on an island and made my stomach churn. But the familiar smell of coffee perked my interest as i rose from my spot, blanket draped over my shoulders, and followed the pungent smell of caffine up the stairs near the main deck, It felt like it had been ages since I last had coffee.

A thought made me pause outside the galley door. I've never been a breakfast person; all my life I went the mornings without breakfast. Instead, I would have chocolate milk as a child and coffee later on as an adult as my breakfast. My stomach just doesn't agree with food first thing in the morning. Knowing Sanji, that would not tide over very well, I'm sure. The man doesn't let anyone leave his kitchen without a meal. I now felt torn. I want coffee so bad, and I knew Sanji would let me bum a smoke if I asked, but I also wasn't interested in arguements and lectures over my age old eating habits.

"Is something wrong, Dot-san?" Startled, I jumped back, bumping into the railing behind me and nearly giving myself a heart attack when I thought I would fall over. Robin rested a hand on my shoulder, a ghost of a smile on her face. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Nothing's wrong." My face felt hot from my embarrassement.

"Would you like to join me for coffee?"

Biting my lip in resignation, I replied, "I would love some coffee... but I'm not hungry. I'm not really a breakfast person."

"Ah, I see." Robin tilted her head with a smile. "I may have a solution that I'm certain Sanji-san would agree to."

Shouts and a loud crash came from behind the galley door, which I looked at apprehensively. Robin laughed lightly at my expression, turning the doorknob with a look in my direction that asked me to join her. Breathing deep and holding it for a few seconds eased my nerves a little. Where was my half-smoked joe from yesterday...? I followed the dark-haired woman into the chaos called breakfast. Various crewmembers were taking turns keeping Luffy from the food while Sanji finished cooking at the stove. Everytime the cook would bring more plates to the table, he'd give the captain a swift kick back into his chair. Honestly, that grated my nerves a little. I could feel Starr stirring in the back of my mind with the continued actions. She was getting angry. I shook my head, trying to ward her off my conciousness.

"Not now..." I muttered to her.

'That's the captain...' she answered then shut herself in her room.

I could still feel how pissed she was, though. I feel like that may pose a problem later on. I proceeded to follow Robin to the coffee pot to fix said beverage and join the chaos at the table, fingers tapping idly against the coffee mug. When Sanji finished up and started serving out plates, Robin stepped in on my behalf, asking the cook to serve her and I a small brunch later on. He seemed woed by her and agreed rather quickly, and didn't try force feeding me to which I was grateful for. And morning chaos continued as per the Strawhat's normal while I sipped my coffee, relishing the flavor of my favorite drink.

~~~~~~~~~~~
The day passed by. Airanna was not happy. Every hit Luffy received throughout the day, no matter what reason, would stir her mood even more, which, in turn really put a dampener on my own mood.
Usopp smacks Luffy for touching something he was creating. Starr growls, sending shivers down my spine. Nami punches Luffy for acting childish and being too loud.
'Disrespectful wench...' Starr hissed.
Sanji kicks Luffy across the deck away from the brunch he brought Robin and I.
'That's the fucking captain...' Starr bristled in fury.
The cook offered me a half of a box of cigarettes and a box of matches, which I took gratefully. Trying to contain my past life's fury was nerve racking. Forgoing the food, I settled for a cup of hot tea and lit one of the sticks up, leaning back into my seat with a deep inhale.
'Please, stop...' I groaned at Starr.
"Stop?" I flushed with embarrassment, realizing I had spoken aloud, again. I'm probably making Robin worry. "Worry? Not neccesarily. But I am curious. Do you often speak your thoughts aloud?"
"I... I'm not sure. I mean, I used to talk to myself outloud a lot before this.. I suppose being alone for a couple months didn't do me any favors with that." I gave her a shrug.
Robin hummed, chin propped in her palm as she stirred her tea. "Yes. Perhaps you're right. Being alone for long periods can sometimes.. darken the mind." Her eyes met mine over her cup of tea as she lifted it to her mouth.
Scratching my cheek with my thumb before taking a drag from my smoke in the same hand, I nodded. "Yeah, sounds about right."
I eyeballed the platter of goodies on the table, picking out a couple muffins then looked around the deck. Sanji had retreated back to the galley, it seemed. Where was Luffy?
"He's coming. Hold on." Robin smiled behind her cup as she took a sip while I sputtered my embarrassment of thinking outloud again.
The sound of rubber snapping and a thud on the lawn deck behind me alerted me to Luffy's presence first before his cheerful chatter of "What's up, Robin?" confirmed it. I eyed the plate once again before picking it up and offering it to the young captain. I swear, his face lit up like Christmas at the offering, which he happily took with great enthusiasm.
Starr was practically purring at his happiness. Well, at least she's taken well to him being the captain that I was now under. She's been through my memories, so she's seen the things he could do, seen how powerful and loyal of a man he was. I'm glad she approves. Because we really had no choice in the matter. Luffy says we (I) join, then that's what we do. Because once he's decided, there's no stopping him.
~~~~~~~~~~~

The day passed on. Some of the crew going exploring, read Zoro getting lost, on the little island, while Franky went about his repairs, and Chopper and Usopp making sand castles on the beach. I decided to join them, grabbing a long stick and starting making designs in the sand. After a while, we started finding interesting rocks and shells to keep.

I eventually looked up from our treasure hunt and out towards the ocean. A hulking figure was rising out of the water as it made its way to the beach and Sunny. The waning light made it difficult to tell the figure's features.

"Usopp." I hissed to the sniper, gaining his attention while I continued to watch the newcomer. "Usopp, someone's coming from the sea."

"That looks like. . ." He trailed off as he pulled one goggle eye down and adjusted the lense then gave a yell. "It is! It's Jinbei!"

At Usopp's shout, the crew's attention was snagged in an instant. Shouts came from on deck at Luffy before and during the captain launching himself from the ship and into the now identified Fishman, sending them both crashing back into the water.

"What the hell, Luffy?" Jinbei pulled the limp, wet captain out of the ocean, tossing him over his shoulder. Luffy only laughed in response, causing the Fishman to sigh and shake his head with a smile.

Jinbei was way bigger then I had ever imagined he'd be. And the blue skin was definately something to get used to. Just adding to the list along with the walking skeleton, I suppose. Whatever, I guess.

Introductions were made, celebrations were had for the returning crewmember that night. And the night passed on smoothly. Now that Jinbei was here, it seemed that's all the crew was really waiting on. We'd be here one more day for Franky to finish the repairs he needed to make on dry land, then we'd set sail the morning after. Was I ready? Probably not, but no turning back now, right?

End chapter two.
