Chapter Two:
Meeting Keiran
I am booked for the rest of the day. I take my lunch later than normal when I get two walk-ins, Jenna's husband, Keith, and an unnamed friend.
Keith, though he is on the shorter side, it does not distract from his manliness. He keeps his light brown hair short for ease. He also has tattoo sleeves of his own. A full pirate ship over the ocean and skulls on one arm. The other: a bunch of skulls and the same flowers Jenna has on her sleeve. It is a couple's tat without being a true couple's tat. It works for them.
"Miss Maggie, Miss Maggie, my dear! It is so wonderful to see ya!" Keith comes over and gives me a big hug. "Thank you for making my bride happy."
I laugh. "Anything for my Jenna. I am glad that you like her new 'do. Now, what can I do for you?" I glance over at the man with Keith and give him a slight smile.
He is a good-looking man. Rugged with shoulder-length blond hair. I don't notice any tats on him. He is wearing a long-sleeved, button-down red and blue plaid shirt with a black undershirt and blue jeans.
And he is smiling at me.
"Good evenin', darlin'. Name's Keiran. Keith was lyin' if you are Miss Magnolia. You ain't just somewhat pretty. You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen."
I almost want to roll my eyes at his comment, but Keiran seems very sincere. "Well, Mister Keiran and Mister Smart Ass. What can I do for y'all? Leave it to Mister Smart Ass to come without an appointment and right before I close." I give Keith the stink eye, which makes him laugh.
"Well, I was told that Jenna talked to you about my buddy, Keiran, here. I thought that you and Keiran should meet. And so, y'all are meeting. And when you get married, I get to make an awesome speech about how you fell in love because of me and you will name your first son Keith."
Arrogant man.
"So, it appears that Keith's 'I know shit' is in full force," I speak with an expression of disgust. "Mister Keiran, please understand that I have no plans of marriage anytime soon. Nothing against you. Of course."
Keiran gave a slight smile, looking like he was trying not to laugh. "Of course. We need at least four dates before I ask your Daddy for your hand in marriage. Then on the fifth date, you will be my fiancée. I can feel it."
I rolled my eyes at the thought that a man would go to my father for permission for my hand in marriage. I looked at Keith and he looked concerned. Like it was not going to plan.
"Sometimes, you know that even the most knowing person doesn't know it all." I roll my eyes as I talk. "Cause my knower knows your knower is full of shit today."
I glimpse over at Keiran and feel something towards him. Like I am supposed to meet him, but that it won't be a good meeting.
"But my knower says that it doesn't matter. We are supposed to meet. So, it's a pleasure to meet you." I put my hand out for him to shake it. He takes it and kisses it with a shuddering smile.
"Miss Magnolia, I am looking forward to what is to come of our relationship." Keiran says with a face that I can't quite decipher. It's not disturbing, but not quite normal either.
I take my hand back and look away from Keiran.
"So, Keith, are you taking your woman out tonight? And if you are, are you taking your other favorite woman with you?" Keith laughs at my comment and takes his phone out.
"Sexy… where are you?" Jenna's voice purrs.
"Woman… I didn't think that you thought of me that way." I reply while Keith and Jenna laugh and Keiran looks like he died and went to heaven.
"Well, it's about time that you came to the dark side, my dear Maggie. I figured you could be convinced." Jenna can barely get the words out without laughing so hard I can tell she is nearly peeing her pants. Who knows? She might have peed herself.
"I am not sure that we would make a great team, my dear. I like my partners unmarried, maybe next time."
Keith is laughing, and Jenna is huffing. Keiran is looking at me with concern.
"Fine, you will. I'm getting hangry. We are getting something to eat." Jenna informed us.
"Not paying. Sushi." I respond, knowing that Jenna doesn't do sushi.
"Damn it! I knew you would pick that. Fine. I want the place on Main Street. They have food I'd eat."
"Meet you there." I reply, watching Keith and Keiran leaving the shop and go towards the parking lot. I made sure that everything was ready for tomorrow then closed up the shop and heading to my car. Keith and Keiran are waiting in Keith's car.
There is truly nothing special about my car. It is just an old junker.
Okay. That is a lie.
My Pontiac Sunfire is like the name implies. Sunshine yellow with a sunroof. I got it for a steal when I was looking for a car so I could find a job.
Miss Montgomery's grandmother was unable to keep her car anymore.
So for the cost of me mowing her lawn twice a month for six months, I got this beauty!
I lucked out, because I had no money at the time and that car was such a blessing.
I drive the short drive to the sushi restaurant that has food that Jenna will eat and park my car.
I close my eyes and send up a prayer, remembering to text Miss Dixie that I am going out with Jenna and Keith.
She tells me to have fun and message her later.
I always like to inform her where I am. Just in case.
I am startled by a soft knock on the unopened window.
My hand goes over my heart, and I let out a scream.
I look over and see Jenna laughing at me. I give her the finger and turn the car off.
After getting out of the car, I smack Jenna and we laugh.
Ready or not. My life is changing tonight.
